Archive Rules

Before adding a thread, ask yourself this question: A month from now, will people say, "Remember the thread about ___?", or will they say, "Remember that one story, that single picture, etc.?" Will they remember it at all in a month? If there are a few new pieces of art, save them; if there's a good piece of writing, save it; if there are a few funny posts, screencap them. If the thread's too awesome for a single screencap to contain, ARCHIVE IT! Here's a helpful cheat sheet to let you decide what to do with something:

Thread Content Action You Should Take
New and in-progress game design Archive it! (Then add to 1d4chan)
New fluff with multiple contributers (not just a file dump) Archive it! (Then add to 1d4chan)
Intelligent, engaging and entertaining discussions Archive it!
Image dumps of any kind Do NOT archive (do this instead)
Rapefic, monstergirl discussion, or anything particularly creepy that smacks of basement-dwelling social pariah Do not archive
Troll threads, bawwthreads and sagefests Do not archive
Boring roleplay threads ("hi guise im eldrad arent i a dick lawl") Do not archive
Shit threads ("LOL EPIC HIVEMIND!") Do not archive, for the love of God-Emperor

Some examples of awesome threads: Creepy Wall, Noh, Red Crawler's stories; as a rare image thread example, this is your /tg/ face (and the weapon you wield, and your steed, etc.)

There's nothing stopping you from archiving anything you want; however, if you're on the fence about it, err on the side of no. Archived threads will be reviewed on a (hopefully) monthly basis whenever I gets around to it; shitty, boring and useless threads will be thrown out (mostly with their vote score as a guide), so if you see or archive a thread that only contains a few pieces of actual worthwhile content, you should pull them out as a screencap or something and put it on 1d4chan. You should also take the time to do this with good content, such as for new settings or game design, to ensure it's preserved in a better-formatted, more logical fashion than the chaos of a discussion thread.

To be completely clear: Never archive image dump threads. Drawthreads may be archived but will be purged automatically during a cull.

Saving Threads Manually

Saving a thread manually from 4chan or the archive is fairly easy:

  1. In your browser, click File - Save As and save the page as a "complete webpage" (to include the necessary CSS and thumbnails).
  2. Use DownThemAll! to save all of the full images from the thread. Place them in the folder created by your HTML save, usually something like 123456_files.
  3. Open Notepad or another editor and go to the Replace function. Replace http://zip.4chan.org/tg/res/(thread number).html# with # and replace http://zip.4chan.org/tg/src/ with 123456_files/. In-thread links and links to the larger files will now work.

I'll say it again: DO NOT ARCHIVE IMAGE DUMP THREADS. They will be deleted.
