    " Tomorrow came and went.

And on the morning of our trials we awake to see that the friends who went ahead
    to race the sun
are never to be seen again.

    Our hearts beat with life
    our souls burn deeper
at every second preciously given to us
    to hear this song.

    this same song sung
at the morning of every battle
    when loss is the feeling
    that we can still feel.

    When friend is the word
    that can still hold meaning

    We March On, Friend.

Gustav has called in some acquisitions. We've killed one DeathGod

but two more await. The Royal guard is a title no more, but a Hero's path.

Prepare, everyone. For the land below has yet to see a rain of blood.

The Battle of Heavens gate raged for nearly a night long. With the original retinue of Vilkas' Royal guard lost to battle, and the Prince bodily harmed himself, the looming threat of the Kashirn Deathgods is still at hand and grows stronger with every casualty of war.

We begin our dark days over the conquered lands of Kashir's desert wastes, our fearless prince fighting at our side.
While we stay to lick our wounds, dear reader,
we blow the horn to call warriors from all across to join us in this dark saga of our prince's conquest.

There would be long nights ahead for the Royal Guard, that much was certain. Long nights that would require coffee, and lots of it. Iceheart didn't drink it herself, insomnia was enough to keep her up, but Marshal Beatrix drank the stuff almost religiously. After putting in the order, she'd make sure to deliver the first cup personally...

A smaller issue was the status of her tanks, namely the damage she had received in battle. Somewhere along the line the externally stowed equipment and tools had been either destroyed or broken, and replacements were needed. She'd start first with getting a new shovel...

Iceheart approaches Blitz, watching the new recruit leave, "Heh, seriously though, which city is the capitol again?" She chuckles, as if she was only half joking. "So, Sergeant, if you don't mind me asking, your legs... there wasn't anything in your profile about what happened."

" 4 and a half years as Royal adept and you look my file up now eh ?"
Blitz clambers over to the top of a tank where he sat the most comfortable. His prosthetic legs hardly slowing him down.
" But if you want to hear it straight from my mouth, I'll tell you. Capital city's in Peace. If you ever go there out of uniform, say hello to the old gang if they're still alive.

Just as it says, I'm an orphan like the rest of you, picked up by Beatrix and made to join this proper unit. Before then, I had legs that I used for everything from fighting to stealing food. When the city guard cracked down on us, I got my legs ground up to the dirt in a blink of an eye. Yeah, even the capital city has problems.

Their jails weren't any better either. People were swimming in rot, my legs were catching something awful and the people there took advantage that I couldn't move around much. So when they had me staring down on the Oath of Iron, I kind of had no choice but to sign it right ?

    I was just 10. "

He knocks on the metal prosthetic, it rung hollow despite moving like an extension of him. I'm sure you have your stories too right ? The Terrible Children is like a bottom- up new beginning, and here we are, serving the highest of the high.

Looks like we both joined up in near the same situation, 'cept I pretty much had my hands in the Marshal's pockets when I got recruited. Beat my sorry ass to within an inch of my life, then asked if I'd rather fight then die on the streets, and so here I am. Got my sisters somewhere to live at least."

She leans heavily on the shovel she was carrying.

    "C'mon, light you con-sarned piece o--"

    Ti-fwoom!

"That's what I thought." Ella smirked, bringing the lighter to the cigarette in her mouth. She took a few puffs, the cherry burning bright orange, before drawing the flame away, the lighter closing with a dull clank before it was stuffed back in her pocket. Her machinegun was to her left, propped up on some scattered debris she had gathered up, the black beret dangling from the edge of the barrel. She shook out her hair, short chestnut tresses falling out into a more natural shape. She dangled her feet over the edge of the wall, admiring the morning sun as it cut through the billowing smoke and hungering flames.

She took a drag, savoring the flavor the smoke tinged on her tongue. An exhale, and she was back in the bed of her pickup, staring at the night sky of the Tremay Valley. The smell of fresh wheat fills her nostrils. The summer air feels good on her tanned skin. It's sometime around midnight and the crickets are chirping. She smiles, caressing his face. Another inhale, and she's back in Ironwood Academy, shooting the breeze behind the dining hall with Marion and Drew. They're talking about the upcoming Inter-Academy competitions--something about how Rosengard's students were being pumped with performance drugs to have an assured win in the physical competitions. She half-heartedly listens as she exhales. She closes her eyes and it's summer again. She breathes into his shoulder. He's smiling back; a confirmation of his feelings. His lips taste like happiness and peace. Her body feels lighter than air--

The sound of boots crunching on pulverized buildings and hard stone snaps her out of her reverie. She thinks to turn her head but doesn't; she knows that gait: Abilene Tomas, her squadmate. “Watchin' the sun come up?”

    Ella smiled. “You know it.”

    “Mind if I sit?”

“No problem.” She dusted off a bit of the wall next to her, the other girl happily taking the offered seat. She reached into one of the pouches on her belt, producing a cigarette and a matchbox. The match sparked alive, burning the cigarette's cherry the color of the rising sun before being flicked off the wall. Abilene took a long, slow drag, enjoying the smell of smoke as it lingered in the morning air.

“Did you get any sleep last night?” She took off her beret, running a hand through her curly blonde hair.

    “Do I ever?”

“True.” Abilene took another drag. Another exhale, and the smoke starts to form a haze against the morning sun. “So, Miss 'I'm supposed to be a Forward Officer but got temporarily booted to regular army', how do you plan to go about getting back in those officer grays?”

“I'm sure a quick visit to the forward base'll clear everything up.” Ella stretched, trying to get the kinks out of her back. “What, did you seriously think I'd stick around here with you? You /must/ think I'm crazy or something.”

“Oh, I'm hurt,” Abilene scoffed in melodramatic shock. “It's like you don't love me anymore!”

“You're such an idiot.” Ella gave her squadmate a light punch on the arm. “Besides, Ella Cherisse Cotton isn't gonna let her five years at Ironwood Academy go to waste!”

“Again with the full name.” Abilene rolled her eyes. "You know, someone had to keep you from getting your ass into trouble after we graduated."

"And you had the bright idea to follow me?"

    "Your parents suggested it."

    "I call bullshit."

"Better me than some hamfisted meathead." Abilene smiled, taking a drag and pulling out a camera from one of the pouches on her belt. "Now if you'll excuse me," she said, "I've got a few pictures to take." She adjusted several of the dials around the lens, eventually looking toward the rising sun—now near fully above the horizon—and began taking photographs of the surrounding area, soon standing up and wandering off. With her friend happily absorbed in her work, Ella turned back to watching the sunrise, tapping away the excess ash from her cigarette and closing her eyes. She would go to the officer's tent later, swap out her new uniform and maybe make fill out a requisition form for some new armor. But those were matters to worry about later; for now, peace was a cigarette.

" I WANT TO BURY THEM MYSELF. The villagers too !" He gets up and throws his weight off the bed.

" W- Wait Vilkas- Your majesty you haven't fully recovered "

" WHEN WILL I THEN ? " He marches out to the fields heavy entrenchments, and post-battle clean up greets him with a grim face. 12 steps out of medical station and he was just a simple adept again, with no rank pins or any type of indication of his standing.

Without his mask, no one looked at him as the Emperor that lead them to this mess last night.

Some of them have never even met Vilkas at all.

And yet he marched on, and spots a handshovel almost fit for his size. It was heavy, but it felt appropriate like a weapon. Soldiers and field engineers look out to spot this curious boy, to see what would transpire. What was the adept doing here ?

Shovels in hand, they too followed with near curiosity prodding underneath their numbed faces.

To the crash site he went. Barren and wide and powerless it made him feel. And up above, that looming megalith promised him trial and regret more insurmountable than the last. Vilkas had never felt so helpless in his life.

And then he started digging. Sobs echoed in that lonely plane. And soldiers watched on as this boy toiled to make 3 by 6 hole.

    " I " he sobs
    " I'm going to -hick-
Everyone I'm taking you home. " His chipped tooth showed as he dug and dug.

    And dug

    And dug.

Meanwhile, a sight that had not been seen during this battle, an old and battleworn Beetl, trundled along. Mounted on its front end was a very familiar sight: a fearsome looking mineflail that evidently had not been used for its intended purpose.

However, something was slightly different. The dozens of hanging chains now ended with a large blade or axe head, scavenged from the fallen Ritters and Axemen warriors. Made out of some sort of near unbreakable metal known only to the warriors of the North, these axes could cut through even the hardiest of armor when wielded by a normal man, much less a tireless and merciless machine. Alfie had spent literally the entire night tirelessly attaching every individual axe head. It seemed like something Axel would have wanted.

But today, the Beetl had relegated its newly upgraded mineflail to digging the mass graves the Kashir dead would be deposited. There would be no fancy burial rites, ritual burnings, or grave markers for them. The only proof that they had ever existed would be a pile of bones under a pile of freshly turned dirt.

Throughout all of this, the pilot of the Beetl did not say a single word.

Iceheart is just about to enter the makeshift medical tent to present the Marshal with a hot cup of coffee and a handful of reports, when the flaps fly open and a figure rushes out, knocking the mug from her hands and onto the ground. Her eyes, one of cold blue and the other of dull tan, linger on the broken shards, scattered like white flower petals, contrasting sharply with all the battlefield debris, the drink slowly being absorbed by the sandy ground. She spins around, ready to reprimand the short trooper that ruined the Marshal's coffee.

She gets as far as "Hey you-!" before she notices that familiar blond hair, but it's the tears she doesn't recognize, partly masking the determination in his eyes as he finds a shovel. The battle must have taken a heavy toll on Vilkas' emotions. Realization on what he plans to do sets in, and she exchanges looks with the Marshal while hastily turning over her papers, and rushes off to her tank, grabbing a long shovel from the stowage racks and moving to help Vilkas. In her ill state she has trouble keeping up with the kid, but she swears she'd work her hands raw if she had to, the Emperor had earned her respect in battle. An offsite artillery option with submunition options (incendiary, shrapnel storm, possible airburst?) would be an ideal project for our R&D project to work on. Another idea of interest would be a sort of super-soldier serum, something that could make our regular army boys--or heck, even our Royals--faster, stronger, better.

"So...shovels?" Ella hefted the collapsible entrenching tool in her hands, eyeing the piece of metal suspiciously. "I send in a requisition form for armor, and I get a shovel?"

"They're not so bad, y'know." Abilene's voice projected from an increasingly deeper hole. "Could be useful for a few things."

    "Other than making foxholes?"

"Definitely!" A small amount of dirt was flung upwards and out of the hole. "You can make trenches to dig in before enemy offensives, sharpen 'em into blades in case things get messy, hell, you can even use 'em as makeshift frying pan so you can cook stuff!"

"I wouldn't exactly want to use something that's been used to dig up dirt and guts as a skillet." Ella locked the shovel's head into place, giving a test swing through the air. "And don't forget why we're down here in the first place: we're helpin' make a mass grave for all the Kashir bodies we can't Ghoulify."

"Yeah, I remember." The voice echoed from the hole. "You could help, y'know."

"You look like you've done more than your fair share of work."

"I don't think I can get out of this hole." Ella could just barely see the tips of Abilene's figures poke out from the rim of the hole. "Could you help me out?"

"Gimme a minute," Ella said, pulling back on her gloves. "Just need to get ready." Taking a small breath, she thrust the shovel into the dirt, and started digging.

    Scale BDUs:

After prolonged warfare in Kashir, our soldiers have taken to extracting the skin of salamanders for themselves and using it for darning their coats. Little did they know that this little decoration increased their survivability in battle as Salamander skin is tightly layered, but at the same time gives a lot of stretch and durability when worn as under armor, allowing for all personnel to wear them.
However, due to the dwindling population of Salamanders, this rare resource is reserved for the Voss Royal guards, established officers, and long established clans of the Valknyres.

All Royal Infantry gains +1 HP.

The Volkstant Mounted machinegun is an integrated automatic built into the armor's hull as twin front turret that can be freely operated by standalone armor pilots. The heavy yield of of it's rounds are not only devasating to infantry, but its all around weight allows it to damage bigger targets and even weaker armor.

The 4 corners of the Voss Kingdom and bribes from Kashirn dignitaries telling us to stop have graced the Voss Varmachine with the finest of xanthine alkaloids. Ranging from Guarana berries from the temperate regions of Predatoria, crushed and infused Kola powders from the mines of the Laboria, Adrenal bean extracts from the beasts of Norr, and roasted blackseed fresh from the fields of Quelori Pumqin.

Tamped through a Destroy Hazard's shell cooking set and shot straight into your cup, this erronously recieved bounty of caffeine would have to be consumed rather quickly as punishment before they go to waste to the elements.

Somehow, even all the way out here on the front, the delivery of their coffee still managed to reach the Royal Guard. Upon seeing the trucks offloading crate after crate of rare brews, Iceheart quickly abandons the cup of generic crap they had on hand, and grabs the most expensive box she can find. She had helped herself to some Destroy Hazard's equipment, without permission of course. Not that it mattered with her being the commanding officer, but it was a bad habit of hers from her youth that would occasionally resurface. She nearly spilled it a few times, her bandaged hands making it difficult to properly prepare it, but eventually she held in her near-shaking hands a hot mug, a brew made from beans that only grow in the snow covered mountain ranges along the Voss-Aeon border, coincidentally were they had fought only a few years prior. She felt it was an appropriate gift, given her adopted name and all.

She finds Marshal Beatrix intently watching the grave digging, a somber expression on her sharp face. They greet each other, and Iceheart presents the coffee to her, the saucer stained red in a few spots by her hands, her paperwork sporting similar marks. She stands attentively by her Marshal's side, the silence occasionally broken by short discussions, of their past, of yesterday's battle and tomorrow's, and of Vilkas' future...

Ella gave herself a once-over in the mirror--a new uniform for her new position: the newest Field Officer for the Terrible Children. While not particularly a grand position, it kept her at the front, with the men, pushing forward. The heavy machinegun, the dusty boots, and the dirt-spattered uniform--they were gone, in their place were a new, polished sidearm, shined black boots, and a new, combat-ready uniform that could best be described as having a snug, smart fit. The new armor sets were very nice, the hard salamander scales interwoven into the fabric. The new armor could withstand a bit more punishment, while preserving flexibility and remaining just as light as the original uniform. She turned from side to side, watching the dark scales catch the light in a mesmerizing display. The beret was the only part of her previous outfit that remained, the brilliant colors of The Terrible Children's symbol showing proudly. 'This is certainly different,' she mused, straightening the beret on her head. 'If Gearhardt could see me now,' her thoughts drifted idly. She smiled briefly, considering the young man. The last time she had seen him was right before she was to be shipped out. She wondered if the he had decided to go into the military after all, or if he had just decided to follow in his father's footsteps and keep harvesting tobacco.

Some time passes before Ella stepped out of the barracks. She pulled back on the black leather gloves covering her hands, ensuring a tight fit. Two Vulcan foottroops stepped up to greet her. One of them was Abilene. She rolled her eyes and smiled, giving a nod to both the soldiers before continuing her walk, both soldiers falling into step behind her, flanking her sides. Her thoughts were abuzz with the recent developments: arriving to be briefed as a Forward Officer only to be punted back into the regular army, blasting apart swarms of wasps with venom that could melt steel, regaining her position, receiving the new gear, putting on the new uniform and being greeted by her new squads—it was jarring, indeed, to be met with so much change so soon. She looked upward, squinting. The day sky was bright in Kashir, the midday sun merciless. The light cast harsh shadows along the ground, the dunes reflecting the sunlight back up toward the broken gates of Makkos Ra. Dust devils whisked through the broken gates and along the tops of the wall, dancing off the edge and twirling into nothing.

Her thoughts eventually drifted to the campaign. She needed information--facts. How the war was going, current resources being used, other deployments, other conflicts. It was no use to be part of this war if she didn't know what, who, or why they were fighting.

The Command Tent was a short distance away from the barracks, a long, tan, canvas structure that seemed to literally shake with every zephyr wind that licked across the battle-scarred landscape. Ella exhaled, composing herself, wiping the sweat from her brow. Setting a determined look on her face, she set the beret back on her head before stepping inside.

The interior of the tent provided welcome shelter from the sun, albeit at the cost of comfort: the tent was a dimly-lit mess of dust, sweat, and coffee. A loose collection of fans, constantly breaking down from having desert sand blown into their mechanics, dotted the room, providing partial relief. At hastily-constructed tables, radiomen listened in on battlefield chatter from deployments far and wide, decoding ciphered messages and sending out encrypted orders. On another set of tables was the unit's newest coffee machine; right beside it, a radio added Voss propaganda to the white noise. Maps plastered the walls, held up by tacks, nails, and tape. In the center of the room was a long, large table, covered in coffee-stained maps, empty mugs, and the occasional handgun being used as a paperweight.

Dominating the table, though, was a large map, illustrating the entirety of Kashir's holdings. Chess pieces--used from the Young Prince's many chessboxes--dotted the map; black pieces showing Voss deployments, and white pieces showing Kashir deployments. Ella noted the more elaborate ebony pieces circled on Makkos-Ra--no doubt an indicator for the Royal military. Several areas of the map--territories reclaimed by Voss offensives, were shaded in black. The Marshal Beatrix stood at the head of this map, eyeing Voss' holdings, her emotions unseen behind black glasses; opposite her on the other side of the table was Lieutenant Iceheart, leaning over the map, lips pursed in a fit of deep thought.. Ella approached the two women, not sure make herself known without appearing to be uncouth.

She opted for a direct approach. "E--excuse me," she half mumbled, half coughed. "Forward Officer Ella Cotton, reporting." She saluted, half-terrified of both women's stern gazes now directed at her. "I--I was wondering if it wouldn't be too much of a bother to have a situation report of sorts--state of the campaign, resources at our disposal, targets of opportunity, possible deployment areas for our next mission, anything. I would also be interested in obtaining battle reports from other forces along our line, if possible. I'm curious to see just how well this war has gone for the regular army."

"The war has well and truly developed ever since the Prince has set foot back into these cursed lands," Beatrix announces.

" In the 5 years it took the regular army to fight and die in mass numbers against the Kashir, the troops have never seen such unrealistic territorial gains until they saw the Prince at the helm, and the Royal Guard supporting him. "

Beatrix looks on outside at the mass graves, they were checkered almost, like a chessbox. Kashirn Villagers had lain side to side with Royal forces. A sword, a rifle, or even a side-arm protruding from the dirt to act as grave markers in true Valknyre fashion, and the Boy at he center still leading on the dig.

But even though the battle dealt a major blow to the Kashir, we've suffered great damage to ourselves as well. The Voss Royal Guard is dwindling, this is a known fact, and the men who had served the prince for the last 6 years of his life have taken its toll on the boy as well as on his personal safety. And my greatest fear is that he would not be the type of person to stop even though he is filled with regret.

"You are no fool, Cotton," Beatrix says, " How likely do you think the Kashir will strike again, knowing that the object of their sole hate, the reason this war had started is standing right up there, digging graves for their villagers ?"

She gives Cotton no time to answer and crosses to another corner of the Kashirn map, heavily edited with new cartographic data ever since flying islands had become an element in this war.

The Kashirn are on the defensive, which buys us some time to recover. For now, they are moving their forces to flying islands and are causing disruptive raids that can only be considered a distraction at this point.

Before we can think of moving forward, the regular army camps outside, refreshed and eager to help this boy. Warriors from all corners are also coming in to help. We can hold a massive recruitment program and train the new recruits with what time we have left.

On the other hand, we have been given a lead from Starstress Rai that a massive DeathGod cultivation campaign has started up again in full swing, whether it will be successful or not is truly a gamble on the Kashir's part. But this means that even the Kashir are desperate. Stargazers like her people are actually hopeful for our cause to stop them. She knows the location to that floating temple also but it could potentially be a very dangerous mission for something as uncertain as gaining the people's favor. "

Beatrix sets herself down against against the tent post and takes a cup to her lips. The choices, as she knows them are once again up to her soldiers and what they were capable of pulling off.

"A recruitment drive would be ideal, Marshal--if we had time, and time is a luxury that we cannot afford to waste, I think." Ella settled into a more relaxed posture, looking at the map. "But if what you're saying about the regular army is true, then perhaps we can request the usage of some of their elements to mount another offensive. Could you get us in contact with the regular army's current commander, seeing as Pandemon is still in hospital?"

"As for the Kashir," Ella said, regarding the large number of white pieces clustered around the floating cities, "If that monstrosity we encountered last battle is anything to go off, these Death Gods are like the Titans of myth. If they really are building up forces on their floating islands, then we'll probably have to island-hop across the rest of their strongholds. There is no doubt in my mind that this course of action would incur heavy losses, however. We should be looking to maximize enemy casualties while minimizing our own." Ella tosses a sideways glance toward the mass graves she had helped dig hours ago. "That being said, I have a proposition: In addition to the propaganda campaign, Marshal, would it be possible to mount a heavy artillery bombardment of their cities to soften an otherwise hardened target before the infantry and armor move in? Ideally, a mass bombardment would leave their forces in disarray, damaging or outright destroying key structures and enemy units. A Ghoulifying chemical agent attack might even be ideal to break the enemy's morale before the fight even starts--provided our research department might be working on such a project."

"Also, in regards to the flying temple that our captive priestess talked about--just what are we looking at in terms of enemy strength and force composition? More jaguar cavalry? Salamanders and elephants? Masses of infantry and artillery? Do intelligence reports have any information on other Kashir High-Value Individuals that might be residing in the temple currently, or, well, anywhere? In any case, my suggestion of tactics remains the same: heavy bombardment using both our forces and several elements of the regular army, then moving in with both the infantry and armor." Ella crossed her arms, head bowed low.

Silence. Another gust drove through the tent, incurring a a terrible screech and crack as yet another fan, its mechanics filled with desert sand, sputtered and died.

"Considering all our options, though," Ella began again, "If we were to use our time to run a recruitment drive, what exactly would that entail?"

If we were to commit to doing a training exercise,

The defense of our holdings and the assault on these various "skylands" would be left to the Voss Grand Army of General Thanes who was elected by the soldiers themselves to lead them while Pandemon faces medical treatment and a subsequent investigation of his actions.

Gustav will be our Liaison with the regular Army, since she has lost her mortality and rank, she had simply become an apprentice to Countess Hel.

As for these flying fortresses, bombardment by halberds would be close to impossible without already comitting a large attack force. Upgrading our rocket technology for mass production would be the only feasible means of accomplishing this.

In terms of enemy count and disposition, we can only know that their shamans would be present, meaning that everything above and below will as well. We have also recieved reports of mounted flyers. Kashirn soldiers riding flying beasts have been spotted picking away at our downed flyers.

Softening them through other means, like creating pandemonium and unrest in their ranks would be the job of Nibelheim.
However, the countess has forewarned us that she will not care for collateral damage once a region has been "marked"

Expect enough time for research to pass by while an operation is underway.
Also expect Nibelheim , Gustav, or Thane's strategies to develop as time passes.

As soon as she made sure she was out of earshot of the Command Tent, she let out a long, deep sigh of relief. "I don't know whether to be relieved or terrified," she said.

"Oh, you don't know what you're talking about--you did great!" Abilene replied, patting her on the back.

"No, I was deeply horrified of my two superiors ripping me a new one after I had requested a situation report." Ella sighed again, digging in her pockets for the cigarette carton and lighter.

"You couldn't have known just what we were planning until you had gone through with that plan of yours," Abilene smirked.

"Doesn't make talking to the both of them any less terrifying." Ella stuffed the first cigarette she could grab into her mouth, her hands shakily hold of the lighter and burning the cherry to a glowing red before being flicked off. "Those women are just plain terrifying."

Our Shipments had just arrived thanks to your hard work.

    Partners in WarCrimes
    = +1 member to all Destroy Hazards=
Due to the proven fatality rate among all deployed Hazards, the region of Laboria has taken to sending even their more notorious criminal industrialists to share the death sentence in pairs.

Now, for the price of one. Two Destroy Hazards may operate their own mortars to double the performance rate of their exotic firepower, or work as one to tamp the most ludicrously designed ball of collateral damage. They cannot be separated easily however, as they are deployed in battle handcuffed to each other. It will take an action to dismember a /dead/ partner from their cuffs otherwise.

    Voss BattleTank

This simple warmachine is the product of many years of millitary-industrial progress and name-calling among former empires. And in the end, it was this slow, once laughable giant that rolled right over their gawking faces. Mounted with a 3.0 calibre shortcannon and equipped with a robust loading system, the tank must move its whole frame and remain stable on the ground in order to fire its payload of heavy cannonball rounds. Guaranteed to heavily damage or crush most armored units.

Three individuals stand close together. Their uniforms crisp and clean; all of them appear to be related.

One of them, the tallest and seemingly eldest speaks up, "I am Vasily Metzger. Me and my siblings joined because it is our duty as Voss. We eagerly await the glory of war, I myself am itching for the chance to fight our enemies. Oh, this is my sister Christina, and my younger brother Slavomir. It is a pleasure to meet you all."

Ema finally tears herself from the typewriter in front of her. Once more it's gotten clogged with sand, run out of ink, and needs oiling. It is a fine machine, even if it's army issue. Made of fine, heavy Voss iron, with a lustrous black lacquer and delicate lettering on it the color of gunmetal. A device that could write poetry, sonnets, ballads, memoirs, biographies, tales of heroism, maybe even, perhaps a love story. But this heavy, noble black contraption in front of her has done no such thing since she's known it, if ever. All the words and emotions it has spoken onto paper for those far away to hear are the names and empty promises of heroic sacrifice of those now sown into the soil of this foreign land like the seeds of so much wheat.

Ema tears herself from the typewriter, and sees her Captain, so frail and sickly, her emperor, but a boy, new faces young and old, men and women, digging too many graves in the soil with shovels too small. Her mind and fingers numb from writing the same words with different names so many times suddenly gives way to a vast empty pit deep inside her. She looks down at the paper in front of her now. Axel. He was just a kid. Didn't he have a sister in that tank of his? She wants to vomit suddenly, the realization of mortality, considering what she would feel losing even her most distant sibling. Her vision swims and the ground sways beneath her. "xjhyjwa7y" is typed onto the crisp white paper, ruining the letter as she steadies herself. The fragility of life suddenly too much of a burden to possibly bear.
    >> [Q1]Armitage !!b5IxBuu9REZ 02/25/12(Sat)02:01 No.18090276
    >>18090268

Ema swallows the bile creeping up her throat, removes her stark white lab coat, and walks out of the air conditioned tent into the desert sun. The heat is like walking into a brick wall, and she begins sweating immediately, but that isn't even the last thing on her mind. As she grabs a shovel, and begins digging, her mind is filled with thoughts of biology, physiology, the machine of the human being. The troops just got armored uniforms, iron helmets, their leader could instill within them the willpower to take a bullet and keep going. But that isn't enough. That's not nearly enough. To rebuild those shattered bodies, to make even more sure they never break to begin with. Voss will send every man in the country to die for their conquest. On both sides many will die. But maybe if Voss can produce an invulnerable soldier, one who could march forever, take any number of bullets, and yet still have their minds and bodies to come back to their families, children, brothers, sisters, parents friends...Maybe if that was Voss, no enemy could stand before them, and a kind of peace could be had.

It would seem that with the turn of the decade, science and war have been developing hand in hand, and the Zcifax would like to have a more direct hand in this relationship going forward.

This field scientist uses practical application approaches to their science and comes in two flavors:

A medical journeyman with a keen interest on the intermixing human forces, using secret formulas and serums for field experimentation. Their various mutagens can help or harm with the slightest difference in composition. But they won't let your death go in vain- because even the most botchedd mutations can be reproduced with their keen eye.

And doomsday devicers that can help construct both defensive and offensive stations allowing them to take Voss millitary tech to it's limit with a couple grueling hours of construction, and a push of a button. To extract full use of them, would mean researching more weapon types, munitions deliveries and uncovering new tech.

Anyone Starting out should pick from the standard Royal Guard Classes.

DeadSpec classes are only available to those that qualify for them.

During battle, should a Royal Unit bite it, they may redeploy as a regular army unit [Mook Cards in the Varmach and next to the officer] with the rank of Soldat.

a- Assault - shootan and dyin
g- Grenadier - minan and explodan
f- Faust Troops - anti tankin
x- AxeMen - for jumpin and hackin
s- ScoutsKnif - For scoutan and snipin

    tonks:

    lt- for zoomin and shootin
    bt- for rollan and destroyan
If logistics are in place to call them in [ ie. The Prince of Voss ] Royals maybe called in at the cost of base 6 Terror.

Any Unit may attain the qualifications for some of the Deadspec units during battle. So keep an eye on your kills and exp in case you bite it.

"Ah, good. It's always nice to see the other tribes of the North paying their dues to our Prince. I'd almost thought we von Claudes were the only Ritters left."

For those of you who haven't played Ritter before, you need to understand one thing: Death is likely. The only unit with a higher mortality rate is probably the Ironskulls we field as armor. However, Ritters have huge potential, and have one of the easiest DeadSpec's to unlock.

First things first: Your wolf moves in Lengths, like vehicles, and the length of a wolf is approximately 2 hexes. With the Black Beret (the default choice of infantry hat, which can be equipped as seen in my callsign) and our CO's movement speed buff, you will have a default movement of 5L, and you can run by sacrificing your actions to move 10L. But most importantly, the movement of wolves ignores terrain penalties, meaning you can attack from angles impossible to the other units. Unless you have increased the number of wolves in your unit or are commanding mooks, you are very vulnerable to massed small arms fire, so avoid clumps of infantry if at all possible. And use your prodigious movement to avoid overwatch!

While your main offensive quality is killing things in melee, don't forget you have a sidearm!
    >> =Bb= [R] Sgt. Otso von Claude !!66F0+1Pe8+6 02/25/12(Sat)16:38 No.18097014
Mount Anything: This statement is a complete fact. You see something that looks like an enemy warbeast? Hijack it. Elephants, Banshees, Salamanders, Panthers, and other potential mounts are yours for the taking, should you be capable of it.

-!- White Wolf Call: This ability is quite powerful, but requires proper coordination with your commanders to prevent needless terror expenditure (Pfhaha, yeah right, we've never been low on terror). With an action, you can call the mythical vulfentide from the North (usually the top of the map), summoning more white wolves for 2 terror each. Given correct positioning, this can mean that the wolves will approach from behind enemy lines, sowing chaos and allowing the main army to advance unassailed. But if conditions are not so favorable, you can use your ability to command mooks and the wolves to bolster your own unit, direct an assault wave by proxy, or even create your own unit of mounted mooks (Axemen are the most obvious candidates for this though Vulcans would also be interesting)

Lycanthropy: Should your need be truly desperate (read: anytime it is appropriate), you can command a wolf to consume you, entering a pact with the creature to become a fresh Lycan. This may very well save your life come night-time, for under the glow of the moon Lycans become nearly unstoppable killing machines. Just understand that too much attention will still kill you, and watch out for Kashir holy men and their bodyguards - they're expecting you, and have equipped silver weapons to cope. This is potentially true of other enemy units as well - don't take your regeneration and massive health pool as a sign of invincibility.

Despite being called a training mission, new recruits will be thrown into a live excercise where real battle conditions are achieved. The area is said to be crawling with bandits composed of Kashirn deserters. First things first, refer to this image:

    >>18068635

And then to your unit card. You have 3 (due to scale BDUs) health per squad member, and your main weapon is a mortar. The mortar by default has a direct shot which has a rating of 6 and an arc shot, which delays the impact of the shot for a turn, but causes it to automatically hit the location you bombard. In addition, the mortar is capable of utilizing various different armaments, including incendiary rounds, flares, armor penetrating rounds, default explosives, and smoke screens for troop support. These must be specifically loaded when you declare a reload.

    *Incendiary - fire damage, anti-personnel
    *Armor Penetrating - anti-armor
*Flare - Reveal up fog of war; basically lasts one turn but reveals fog so it's fine
*Smoke - provides cover for the grunts
*Crushing - default explosives, average against all

Due to upgrades we have distributed sidearms to all infantry for use when your main weapon is inappropriate. That firearm is detailed on the Varmach, but for reference:

Range 4hx, rating 6x1 or 5x2, 3 shots then reload
    >> =GC= [HD1gb] Sgt. Otso von Claude !!66F0+1Pe8+6 02/27/12(Mon)21:45 No.18128625
As a [D] you can spend your actions to 'tamp' your gun. This allows you to either increase the range of the next round you fire, or its damage, but tamper with the gun too much and you run the risk of blowing yourself into ghoul fodder.

A few relevant changes from your unit card that should be noted: You have two members in your squad, each with mortar, etc. Those two are handcuffed together, so if one dies, the other will have to cut herself loose with an action in order to operate appropriately. In addition, you can wear a hat to increase your potential; these are worn by attaching the appropriate tag to the front of your callsign as the Captain and I have. The hats currently available are the Black Beret (=Bb=; +1 move) and Gunnery Cap (=Gc=; +1 range).

The icon with the two silhouettes means that mook units attached to your squad gain increased range.
    >> =GC= [HD1gb] Sgt. Otso von Claude !!66F0+1Pe8+6 02/27/12(Mon)21:49 No.18128683
For you, an example turn would be:

    >Move 2 hexes N
    >Fire 2 mortars enemy infantry mobs to N
    >Reload both guns with incendiary rounds

For this case, you'd fire 2 mortars directly, needing two d10 rolls in the email field (dice+2d10). Then, with your second action for each mortar, you'd reload with incendiary rounds. Keep in mind that order processing can and will go wrong at times, it's in the nature of orders relayed by such unreliable processes as radio signals and vocal commands.

awesome! tyvm, that's all my old questions!

new questions. the arc shot delay, is that a full round like i suspect or does it land on enemy's move like i hope? and is does the arc shot have a range limit, cuz i can't imagine being allowed to snipe with a mortar though i will if i can
    >> =GC= [HD1gb] Sgt. Otso von Claude !!66F0+1Pe8+6 02/27/12(Mon)22:05 No.18128874
    >>18128820

Unfortunately, I honestly can't answer those questions accurately for you due to lack of experience myself. I imagine that there isn't unlimited range on the arc shot, however. And I also suspect that the arc shot waits until after the enemy's phase to land.

You can spend actions on your turn to tamp the gun, so you could do the following:

It's not exactly a transparent process, Monday has his own way of deciding, but...

    Just don't roll 10s.

Also keep track of how you've tamped your gun if you tamp it over multiple phases. You could create something very monstrous if you tamp that mortar enough, but that doesn't help if you haven't been recording how you've changed it.
