You are a P-61 pilot newly inducted into the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, and you've just woken up in your commanding officer's bed by 15 year old Miyafuji Yoshika who's telling you that Chuck Yeager wants your help with something magical.

At this point all you need is for somebody to walk in the door and misinterpret the whole thing and your day will be complete.

The instant that thought passes through your head, you hear a knock at the door. "Miyafuji, come out of there!" Perrine's voice comes, sounding harsh. "You little twerp, I know you're hiding in there!"

    >Wat do

The instant she hears Frenchie's voice, Miyafuji's face goes pale.

"You can't hide under Minna's skirts now, nugget!" Perrine snaps. "It's about time you answered for your transgressions, you worm!"

You've put up with a lot of shit from Perrine, and even come to a point of almost a little possible mutual respect (maybe) but this smacks too much of bullying, and against the girl who removed the huge lethal hole in your fucking abdomen not two nights past. Slithering out from under the bed, you seize Miyafuji by the ankle and nape and unceremoniously sling her under the bed.

"Open UP, you trespasser, you low-class swine, you- you thief!" You yank the the door of Minna's room open at the exact same second Perrine tries to kick it in, her dainty little foot kicking you right - in - the - abdomen. Stars explode before your eyes as pain flares in your still-sensitive belly.

    "Wha-" Perrine stammers.

You hunch over, clutching your belly, waiting for Perrine to get a clue and stop being a bitch.

"You're not supposed to be in here either, you lecherous pig! The Colonel, even!? Does your imprudence know no limit?"

WELP. You shrug your shoulders as you slip out of your flight jacket.

"Keep your clothes on, you filthy- AAAAH!" Perrine cries as you fling your jacket over her head. As she flails you bodyslam her, taking her down with your considerably superior weight. Once floored, you get your arms around her and manage to tie the sleeves of your jacket behind her back, making an impromptu straightjacket. Your belly still sending fire up your nerve endings, you bite back the pain and stand, slinging an incredibly agitated Perrine over your shoulder.

    Bitch.

"UNHAND ME, YOU FILTHY PEASANT!" Perrine howls, kicking like mad, but to no avail. You suspect she doesn't know - or simply can't - enhance her strength magically like you've seen the more experienced Witches do. Which suits you just fine.

"I think we should GAG this rude jerk!" Miyafuji says, and suiting deeds to words, frees Minna's pillow from its case and shoves it into Perrine's mouth. The French Witch kicks and squirms like a madman, but you've secured her too well and she can find no purchase.

"That's what you get for calling me a twerp, you French GREMLIN!" Miyafuji shouts, smacking Perrine upside the head.

"She been giving you trouble?" you ask Miyafuji.

"She's treated me like dirt since the moment I arrived here," she tells you sourly. Miyafuji's always struck you as a kind little girl, so it must've taken some mean treatment indeed to make her so bitter.

With a squirming Perrine slung over your shoulder, you set off to find Ian.

At first, the idea of welding the little bitch into a locker and dumping it on an outbound MAT C-47 is mighty appealing, but you reckon getting Perrine in proximity with a welder without witnesses might be more trouble then it's worth.

Unless, of course, there's a metal container closer to hand. Espying one of those silly suits of armor that decorate the whole damn castle, you kick it over, toppling it off its stand with much racket and clatter. Perrine can't weigh more then ninety pounds, so its a simple matter to manhandle her into the armor. After much futile struggling on her part, you untie the sleeves of your jacket and carefully extract it through the arm-openings of the breastplate before reattaching the armored sleeves and gauntlets. With a final grunt of effort you stand the armor up again and retie the leather thongs that usually keep the empty armor "standing" upright on display, supported by the rack behind it. Perrine glares daggers and dirks at you, tears trickling down her cheeks as you settle the heavy metal helm over her head and close the visor.

Perrine's strangled curses and cries echo inside the armor for a minute as she continues to struggle. "You know, that rack wasn't made for this," you remind her. "Keep it up and all you'll do is knock it over."

    The armor continues to jitter

"And there's no way a little thing like you can move around in a tin can like that, so..."

    The armor goes still.

Some people are willing to let the whole quest crash and burn just to get a quick laugh, others want an epic story. It's up to the quest author to discern trollposts from real posts, and if he can't do that, we get idiotic results.

Also, people WAAAY to easily get behind an idea without thinking it through. Like broadcasting that bit about chocolate in Minna's desk. That was just a bad idea in general. Or pretending to be dead.

"You hungry for breakfast?" Miyafuji asks you.

"Actually, I am," you reply, and the two of you walk away, towards the kitchen.

"How's your injury?" the girl asks. "I did my best, but... you know... I'm not very good at healing, yet."

"You're fantastic!" you reply. "I only feel sore now, which is pretty amazing considering I had a HOLE in me just the other day."

Miyafuji shakes her head. "My mother and grandmother would've had you on your feet in hours. I just powered through it with brute strength, and wore myself out doing so."

"So you can power through anything like that?"

She shakes her head. "That was something simple. Just massive tissue damage. I just had to regrow it, which is easy because the body does that anyway, if it can - grow new skin, you know? And your liver regenerates anyways, even. If it'd been more complex damage..." she shrugs. "I'm not that special."

"Au contraire," you say. Miyafuji looks at you funny. "Sorry, it's French. Speaking of, you don't think we might've been a little too harsh-"

"NO," Miyafuji says sternly, and the anger on the young girl's face is plain. Yikes.

In the kitchen you find Ian idly thumbing through a newspaper, a small smile on his face. Ian doesn't often smile, and you instantly wonder what mischief he's been up to.

"Well aren't you looking chipper," he says, glancing between you and the Witch. "Did Miyafuji get the lead out of your ass while she was operating on you, or did you just smell the pancakes?"

Pilots are nominal officers, but still officers - and while you've never been very good at the career ambition or small-office politics, you can pass the buck like a fucking champ. And Ian clearly need something productive to do. "Jokes on you, buddy. We passed Perrine in the hall. She's looking for you."

Ah but therein lies the beauty of the 42. It is select fire, quite accurate which is why so many were fitted with the low-power scopes of the time and employed as DMRs and in counter-sniper roles.

At the same time, you can slap down the bi-pod and open up with some glorious full auto kraut lead.

Pilots also received a decent amount of combat training in the case they were downed behind enemy lines.

Ian narrows his eyes, though his relaxed posture doesn't change. "What for?"

"She didn't say," Miyafuji pitches in, pursing her lips thoughtfully. She looks upwards searchingly, touching her chin. "She just spun those handcuffs around her finger and smiled..."

Ian upends the chair as he leaps away from the table and goes flying down the hallway, draining his coffee with one long slurp before tossing the mug behind him carelessly.

You ruffle Miyafuji's hair affectionately. It would've been over-the-top with anybody else, but the little Japanese Witch is too adorable to seriously doubt, at least when she's telling a plausible lie. She beams up at you.

"Ay, did I miss summat here?" You look down the dining room to see a large, tired-looking man working on a coffee pot - the whole thing, drinking directly from it. You feel immediate empathy with the man.

"Just a Frenchie getting her just desserts."

"Ay, even the aliens like invading 'em," the man snorts, then blinks drearily. "Ah, forgive me. Just flew in."

    "Where from?" you ask.

"North Africa," he replies. He's decently rakish-looking (judging from the way Miyafuji is staring,) with a thin nose and a scruffy beard, and he certainly looks like he's been playing C-47 pinball for twenty-four hours straight - more like forty-eight, in fact.

"You flew in? The whole way?"

"Aye," he mumbles. You peg him for Special Forces immediately, just from that - taking ships through the Straight of Gibraltar is a hell of a lot safer then coming from Africa by air, since anything flying over the Iberian penninsula or the northern side of the 'Med needs an escort, the way the Martians have been lately. He's somebody important, and officers shave more often then that.

"So. Did Ian say something about pancakes?" you ask, sniffing the air.

Ah, yes. There it is. Delicious pancakes.

"Lynette's cooking," Miyafuji tells you. "She makes the best pancakes on the whole base!"

You follow the heavenly scent of pancakes to the kitchen, where you find Lynette standing on tip-toe to address a pancake griddle set atop one of the huge industrial ranges. She daintily flips another pancake over. "Oh, hello~" she says to you. "Are you feeling better?"

"Some," you admit. "How's Minna feeling today?"

"She's really happy that you actually made a report without any 'bouncing' involved, whatever that is," Lynette tells you. "She said you're learning, and you might be useful yet."

"Good dog," you mutter darkly as you load a plate with steaming hot pancakes. "We need to have a chat, her and I." You stab your fork at the last cooked pancake on the counter, but somebody tries to snag it away. Growling, you fork-fence with the intruder until you snag it away with a swift thrust and devour it with the relish of victory.

"Ah, good contest, chap." You look up at the opposing fork's owner, a wide-faced man with a broad sort of handsomeness; and a more mature combat-beard then the Brit in the dining room. "Lynette here's one hell of a cook, eh?" He tousles her hair affectionately, and she giggles.

"Your unit being pulled into this whole..." you wave your hand about vaguely... "this mess?"

"What, ya mean all the brass hats? Suppose they've got something planned for us, yeah."

"Yeah, that great big blowhard has something planned for us, all right," the rakish-looking man says, entering the kitchen with an empty coffee pot. He saunters over to the coffee maker and swaps the empty one for a full one. "Eh?" he says, hoisting it at you, and both you and the other man let him pour you a mug each.

"Who, Patton?" you ask, adding some sugar to your mug and stirring briskly as you prepare to shovel more pancakes into your mouth with your free hand.

"Nah, Monty," the wide-faced man replies, sighing.

"I think he's still pissed about the flowerpots," the rakish-looking man replies seriously.

"That was fucking WORTH it," Wide-Face replies, grinning. "Christ, was it ever." He sips at his coffee, eyes dreamy with some treasured memory, then winces. "Bit strong. Hey, love, is there any creamer in here?"

"First refrigerator," Lynette replies cheerfully, whipping up the next batch of pancakes.

The broad, tall, handsome Brit strides over to the refrigerator with the air of man savoring the simple joys of an enclosed, powered, fully-stocked kitchen for the first time in many months. Still smiling, he opens the refrigerator.

The British man is floored - quite literally, as Rommel takes him by complete surprise. Recovering swiftly, he scrabbles backwards over the floor as Rommel emerges from the refrigerator, tapping a massive frozen kielbasa in the palm of one gloved hand. He stalks across the tile like an avenging angel, his eyes smoldering with rage.

"K-knock it off ya fucking lunatic!" the Brit says as he crawls across the floor. The rakish-faced man is looking on with great amusement, sipping at his java.

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave," Rommel says, his voice low and dangerous. He raises the kielbasa for the killing blow, but the Brit slides under the food prep table in the middle of the room, buying himself seconds. He emerges from the other side with a half-thawed leg of lam, apparently found amidst the evicted foodstuffs you helped Rommel hide under there yesterday. Rommel leaps atop the table, swinging his kielbasa with gusto, and the Brit leaps to meet him, frozen meat meeting with a meaty MACK! sound.

"We're on the same side now!" the Brit apparently named "Dave" shouts, parrying a kielbasa thrust.

"ASK ME HOW MANY FUCKS I GIVE!" Rommel says, and knocks Dave clean off the table with a mighty blow. 'Dave' hits the ground rolling and comes to his feet dual-wielding spatulas.

"A little help would be nice, Paddy," he snarls, circling the table as Rommel adopts a two-handed low-guard with his kielbasa.

"Wouldn't it just," the rakish-faced man says, looking TREMENDOUSLY amused.

You edge out of the kitchen cautiously as the Ghost Major duels the Desert Fox, scarfing down pancakes as you retreat. Dave's got a point; Lynette sure does know how to cook. She joins you a few seconds later, clutching her spatula to her chest nervously.

"What's all that about?" she asks you tremulously.

    "Not quite sure," you admit.

"I heard some Witches from the African front came in," Miyafuji says thoughtfully. "I thought the fighting there was still going on, though."

"It is..." you say, stroking your chin with your fork in between wolfish bites of pancake. "The battle lines have been stagnant for over two months, but even then they'd pull conventional forces before weakening the Witches, you'd think..." Hmm. More mysteries. Probably on a need-to-know basis. Which means you might be able to pry them out of Minna if you fluster her bad enough. Of course you've started the day off by appeasing her, but it's only nine AM; the day is young.

Hey planefag, whats going on over in Canada? I assume they got hit by the aliums same as everyone else. Were pre D-day at this point so AFAIK they are building stuff like Mossies and deploying wherever the Brits go. Same with the ANZACS. And Canada's navy played a big part in keeping Britain supplied by sea, so I assume they still perform that function (but against UFOs instead of U-boats).

That Devils Brigade must be around somewhere...

You're idly enjoying the sounds of mortal combat in the kitchen when Sakamoto enters. She peeks into the kitchen, then gives you a quizzical look.

"Rommel is discussing asymmetric warfare with David Stirling," you say.

Sakamoto nods, thinking. "Five quid on the Brit," she says.

You grin at her wolfishly. "Ten on the Kraut."

    "Fine! Ten on the Brit."

"Done!" you say, shaking her hand. "By the way, what the hell is a quid?"

She shrugs. "Hell if I know. The English have the stupidest mess of currency names in the world."

"No we do not!" Lynette objects, smacking the table with her spatula in outrage. "A quid is one pound!"

You blink. "I thought it was, like, half a crown or something."

"A crown is five shillings, dummy!"

You and Sakamoto exchange a puzzled glance.

"A shilling is - oh for gods sake, how do you people even SHOP?"

"With my sidearm on," you say flatly. "I find it encourages honesty when calculating exchange rates. Why don't you Brits just, you know, switch to a system with money you can actually count, or something?"

"That'd be so confusing," Lynette says. You start sniggering, and the honest, wholesome look of confusion on her face just triggers all-out laughter.

When the Aliums hit Washington DC and went for the White House, there was a general sentiment amongst Canadians that the fucking aliums were trying to beat their high score for District of Columbia property damage.

Canada was less then pleased. Some of the first relief forces were Canadian.

Quebec and Montreal were targeted during the initial surprise attack, but Martian forces were eventually chewed up piecemeal when their advance bogged down. Literally bogged; legged walking war machines couldn't handle Canadian roads. Mounties, what with the horses and all, were not so inhibited.

Nobody jokes about them anymore. Incidentally, the same applies to the British royal guards in London who wear the huge beaver-hats.

As your giggles subside, you see Gertrude come in. She's rubbing at her eyes, (probably just woke up, you assume) and she looks a little dour. "Has anyone seen Sanya yet? I thought she slept all night."

    "No, sorry," Sakamoto replies.

"Morning, 'Trude," you say companionably. She turns a sour look on you.

    "You."

    'You' blink, surprised.

"Lieutenant Yeager wants to see you in the hangar. Report immediately."

    You blink. "Yes. Sir."

She nods, and stalks out of the room.

"What the hell was THAT all about?"

"I take it you haven't seen the news yet," Sakamoto says dryly, handing you the newspaper she'd tucked under her arm.

It's the one from a few days ago, with the huge article on you, centered on the massive picture of Perrine kissing you at Eastchurch.

    "And you got this-"

"There were like thirty copies in the lounge. And a copy was slipped under everbody's door last night."

SON. OF. A. BITCH. Any guilt you had about feeding Ian to Perrine vanishes, to be replaced with a cold, chilly hate. That lousy rotten bastard.

    "Perrine's only fifteen..." Sakamoto observes.

    "I- I didn't-!"

"I believe you," she says, looking amused, "but good luck with all the hair-triggers around here. The Germans are especially bad for that, you know?"

What are the parameters for showing them that we're better?
If it's kill tally, then we'd better get cracking at those patrols, because Trude, Erica, and Minna have over a hundred each on us.
If it's about being better soldiers, Charlotte, Trude and Sakamoto have been doing much better jobs of being responsible soldiers that can still troll with the best of them than we have.
All we're left with is pants, which is pretty pathetic compared to the other criteria.

I agree with subverting the magical girl tropes, but we haven't really thought this through, have we?

    >I have no idea what the fuck is going on.

You reach the hangar, tapping the rolled-up newspaper against your leg. You look around for Ian, on the off chance that he's available to have said newspaper rammed up his asshole, but he's absent. In the middle of the huge hangar you do see your Black Widow with an APU cart next to it, and movement in the back which is probably Sean. You make a beeline for the heavy fighter, still tapping the newspaper against your leg.

Sure enough, the fighter contains Sean. The rear hatch is open and inside Sean is bent over the multiple powerful radio sets your Black Widow carries, listening intently.

You climb up the ladder far enough to rap with him comfortably. "Hey."

Hands touching his earphones, he continues to hunch over the control panel.

You smack his leg with the newspaper. "HEY!"

Sean jumps so high he smacks his head on the low ceiling. He tears the headset off as he rounds on you. "What the fuck was - oh, you," he says sourly.

"Gee, I sure am fucking popular today," you bitch.

Anybody that thinks we initiated or invited this, we remind them that we're talking about Perrine, the Hound of Gaul.

If they continue to think we asked for this, we repeat our statement and stare flatly at them until they either agree with us, go away or both.
