Last thread we were in the midst of battle. I will skip us to a checkpoint.

After assaulting the Uchiha unit you disperse them with the death of their captain. Jako has recovered his stamina and is now attacking more carefully, weaving in and out of battle, but mostly keeping his eyes down and guiding himself through hearing and smell.

However, as you battle you sense a titanic chakra presence welling up almost a mile away. It lights up like a flare and suddenly a massive explosion of fire rips through a whole flank of the Senjuu army, leaving nothing but ash in its wake. The heat from the attack, though almost a hundred meters away, cooks your arms and blackens the sleeves of your robes as you cover yourself.

    (Take a free 8 damage)

That's highly unfortunate. How is the rest of the Senjuu army reacting to this and are the Uchiha pushing forward hard again after that?

The Uchiha are rallying backwards, gathering towards the massive chakra source, and Tobirama is leaping towards the front of the Senjuu army. Hashirama is not visible, but you can sense his presence, he's under the ground, lurking safely and waiting, presumably, for the idea moment.

The chakra flares up again and lances towards all of you. This time, surely, will be your demise. However, Tobirama makes two quick signs and spews a massive torrent of water forward, steam filling the entire battlefield.

You sense that not a single person was hurt, but Tobirama's chakra has dipped noticeably. He could probably do it again, maybe twice, but not any more. The chakra signature in the distance is nearly dark, they're almost empty.

If the Uchiha trying to roast the army is near empty, I guess that means we can advance again. If the Senjuu army continues the advance, we go along and smash some Uchiha in the face I guess.

Do we know Jako well enough that we could operate together under team roles? If so- could we(at the next applicable pause in combat) assign Jako to melee specialist while taking on the medic role?

You don't know Jako's capacity for combat exactly, nor do you fully trust him enough to count on him to have your back. There also isn't enough of a break to organize roles.

The Senjuu army begins moving back to engage, but the Uchiha seem to be breaking to retreat, all of them running backwards, the large chakra signature moving as well. The day appears to be yours.

Continue pursuit with the rest of the army?

You keep on your heels and as your main force charges forward Jako stays back with you, remaining silent before he suddenly clenches his fist and strikes at a space in front of him, his hand transforming mid-swing. The spikes on his knuckles are covered in cloth, torn clothing.

Your Byakugan sight shows the faintest shimmer of a chakra signature, you barely noticed it, but there are about five amongst you and the back portion of the army, sneaking about.

You thrust your palm at your assailant, but today really must not be your day as he grabs your wrist and forces you to your knees, a kunai at your throat. Red eyes spin to life and you see the Uchiha man holding you with a wicked smile.

Fortunately, he doesn't get a chance to hurt you. Jako flies out of the distance and grabs him by the head, jumping slightly as his elbow sprouts a jet-like growth which blasts chakra as he drives the man's head into the ground and crushes it into a red paste. "Are you ok, Shingen-san?" He asks and kneels to help you stand.

Gathering your breath and your focus this time you wait for one of the figures to get close to you, seeing them go for your wrist again you smile and this time slide a half inch away from them, shooting your arm up towards their neck and blasting through the chakra-gate there, causing them to gasp in pain and grip their neck, long enough for you to strike and deliver several extra hits, the victim hitting the ground easily.

Jako sprouts a huge blade on his arm and slices a man in half before shooting his spiked tail into another, throwing the two of them into the third.

Another slight shift, this one two inches and your feet another inch as the man lunges at you with a sword. You slap the blade up and away as you smash your elbow into his forehead, sending a blast of chakra into his brain, sub-lethal, but instantly nullifying. He crumples to the ground and his invisibility fades away.

You tie and restrain the man as you were trained, and after disarming him you scan the area. The Uchiha forces appeared to have dispersed, as have your own forces, they have gathered around Tobirama, who is still at the front of the army.

Despite all of this you cannot see a reason for the Uchiha's attack, the stealthy Uchiha were unsupported, minimally trained, and otherwise irrelevant. Why have them attack at all?

"Good job, sir." Jako says as he pats your shoulder, "Should we head home?"

A quick double time and you are on the long commercial road where this man is known to be.

    >>17090854

You get looking for him, running up and down the road. A few days pass without success until finally you see a bandit group attacking some merchants. You are about to intervene when five smoke grenades go off and from within them rises a shadowy figure who sweeps over the bandits and dispatches them with ease. A blood kunai goes back into its holster as the smoke parts to reveal a very dapper looking young man.

He is wearing a rich purple and black business suit with a match wide-brimmed hat and a purple mask over his eyes and his nose. A long cape is over his shoulders and he smiles proudly, "Worry not my meritorious merchants, Shiromaru Tsubasu is here to protect you on this road." He said and the merchants gave their thanks and began moving away. He looks around for a while and reaches into his pockets, getting ready to leave, it seems.

Once you engage her and attack, I'll drop down on her and she'll be ours." He said and placed the small square of paper on the inside of your left wrist, "Now, she is around, I have that feeling...so try to make yourself look vulnerable. I'll be watching, from the shadows." You and your comrades begin to set up a camp and light up a fire. Basically you begin to engage in all the bad habits you learned from your time in training. Light a fire and then douse it to sleep, talk all night and sleep as one, don't maintain a regular watch, take regular trips away from the fire alone.

A few hours in Honda leaves to go wander the nearby area for a while as suddenly you hear, "Expansion Jutsu!" The sound of trees snapping as you hear thunderous noise, Honda yelling, and his body hitting the ground before a puff.

Jako lunges into the trees and you hear the sound of many projectiles flying through the air all at once, maybe a thousand or more, and then silence.

Your chakra senses detect nothing except the weak signature of your friends.

You seem to be saying the same thing.

Your clone lunges ahead first and you trail him by about three meters. As you enter the clearing you see familiar signs. Your clone is popped instantly by a steel wire whipping across its neck and killing it. Jako is slumped against a tree, his whole front-half riddled with senbon. Honda was lucky and only had three pierce his neck and two in his chest, hitting vital points.

As you take in what happened you feel the pricks of senbon entering your legs, however, you reach down and pull them out easily, the seal's energy humming and keeping you safe.

She tries to stab him as well, but he hides behind his cloak, emerging with a rising knee and smacking it into her jaw. She stumbles and he cocks his arm back and smashes his elbow into the top of her head, sending her to the ground.

Well, the way things fell out, the Fourth found out that the Uchiha might be plotting something, and the the one sub-ANBU group (Root?) sent some High Jonin level assassins to kill them. ALL OF THEM. Itachi intercepted them right after the attack started, and killed like all ten of them before they could do any real damage.

The Fourth arrives, and discovers Itachi, surrounded by Dead ANBU, and ends up beating him within an inch of his life before finding out that it wasn't what it looked like.

Root went rogue, relations between the various Kohona clans are strained. Uchiha are pissed because they almost got genocided, Hokage's pissed because people are going over his head to try and do bat-shit crazy things like murder everyone in what's arguable the oldest, most powerful, and most distinguished clan. Most everybody else is pissed that the a rumor of discontent was enough to fuck everything that bad.

The Hokage pulled some strings to get the exact same three man squad, under Kakashi: Pairing his son with a promising heir to the Uchiha family, under Kakashi (who due to his unique abilities, is respected by most everybody) with Sakura acting as a sort of emotional anchor since she got along with both of them reasonably well.

That's the back-drop to the campaign: Less of a united Kohona, Hokage's leadership looking shakey, and the three man team is potentially Kohona's last hope as some sort of metaphorical attempt at diplomacy. Should I keep going?

    Alright.

Any reason there's a good 40min between replies?

Naruto is a lot like he was in the main series, except he tries to act a bit more serious since he dosen't want to shame his dad. stat wise he's mostly a brawler: he uses clones to confuse, then uses hit and run sort of tactics. Like He'll make three clones, two copies try to grapple his opponent and hold them down, while the other two start kicking the shit out them to get as many hits as they can in.

Sasuke has more or less cut himself off from his clan, both as a test to see how good he can get without his families connections and secret/forbidden techniques, and to try and get out of his brother's shadow. Has the same sort of emotionally distant stance towards most people, but it's less angst and more a cold professionalism. Emotion might cloud his judgement, so it's better not to get emotionally involved.

Sakura is more or less copy+pasted character wise from the actual series, except she comes off as less of a desperate virgin because Sasuke's less of a dick. In one game he actually said that he would go out with her if she would shut the hell up and actually focus on the mission.

Which led to a rather hilarious exchange between him and Kakashi during the carriage ride (makes sense in context) back home.

    "So...."
    "Yes Sasuke?"
"I really have no idea how 'dating' works."
"It just so happens I have a couple books to help on the subject..."
"Huh, well I guess that would.... This is porn, and this one's blank."
"The latter book contains all useful information I have concerning women. I think that alone explains the first."

It's more or less a straight logical conclusion to how your quest went. Well, up until it got to the three of them joining a genin squad on the time-line part anyway. Some stuff was similar, like the bridge builder ark: Since Zabuza was dead, Gato hired someone else. Kakuzu's mercenary ninja organization he formed after Akatsuki collapsed. He waged a proxy war on the group until the final battle at the bridge made him realize he needed to step into the ring and end it quickly. Then Gato played his hand a bit too early, and he single handedly murdered every single mercenary under Gato's employ in just under two rounds, and then captured Gato to take him away to do horrible things for betraying him.

Naruto, by the way, was EXTREMELY pissed that he decided that if there wasn't money in it he was just gonna leave, after nearly killing every party member, burning down half the village, and taking one of the bridge-builder's arms. Pissed to the point where it took Sasuke AND Kakashi physically restraining him to keep him from getting everyone killed.

There were some bullshit filler missions since then, but next session's Chunin Exam territory. I have no idea where he's going with this, since everybody involved with the various conspiracies are either dead or missing, the Fourth is alive, and the tailed beasts don't, as far as we know, actually exist in this setting.

I can't imagine it's going to be a 'normal' exam, given how it's a massive crux for every aspect of the series.

I'd use it as a good way to show how inter-village relations are. The Land of Wind should still be pretty poor and their contracts are being given outside of the Hidden Sand, so maybe they're sending people in an attempt to reinstate faith.

I totally derailed the thread, and then killed it.

I vote that we don a monk disguise, just in case.

Also, we're WAAAAY outside our stomping grounds. At this point in time, it was dangerous for Shinobi to even go as far as the next clan hold, since most clans were warring to a degree. We're looking at a potential international incident if we somehow fuck up, and the Hyuga clan? Will gladly sacrifice members of the lower branches for worse reasons.

    Caution is our watchword.

He nodded, "Satisfactory." The old man looked Jako up and down, "Since I don't have the pleasure of those eyes of yours, I will do what I can for him." he said and put his hands on Jako's massive pectoral muscles as he focused, a blue aura around him as Jako twitched unpleasantly before his eyes started glazing over, his pupils contracting as his chest started to heave. Just as he was about to go into his rage the old man pulled his hands away and Jako collapsed, the old man's aura having grown stronger.

Honda looked up at him with concern, his hands going for his kanabo as he said, "What the hell was that?!" He asked, and the old man shook his head, "Nothing...nothing. Just testing the lad, that's all." Jako groaned before clambering up and standing up shakily.

    3 Weeks.

Determine your work load for each week and your training subject.

    Week 1- Speed (Normal/Hard/Breakneck)
    Week 2- (Difficulty)
    Week 3- (Difficulty)

What you choose and how hard you want to train will determine results. If you set the difficulty to anything other than Normal you have to roll for results.

Let's start at break-neck, see how that goes. If that dosen't work out, we'll tone it down.

    Alright. Speed.

    Rank+Shinobi Movement, targeting Taijutsu.

Now, since it's break-neck we need 5 successes.
Do you want to hinder yourself? For each hindrance you apply, weights, chakra choking bandages, etc, you get -1 dice to your pool.

If you succeed you will gain more. I will not disclose how much more.

Failure will result in injury, which will result in reducing your gains the next week.

Critical success means you work at that pace through the entire session. Critical failure means that you spend those three weeks healing from injuries and stress.

The first week you set a vigorous training regimen. You plan to spend 8 hours a day doing nothing but sprints, leaps, and jumps, all under exhaustion and limited food, blowing your chakra to the max to earn more results.

However, it proves to be too much for you. You're forced to tone it back down and pull back, rather than risk injury. Fortunately, Honda's family medicine heals your fatigue quickly and you are able to keep a moderate pace.

(You gain base 6 MP. Because of our genius, we actually gain 9.)

It's not easy to learn Genjutsu, especially with no prior training. You remember what your Father mentioned all those weeks ago when you trained with him.

By week's end you three are practicing your exercise. Jako is tied to a tree while Honda smacks him roughly in the stomach until his rage takes over. Honda then grows huge in preparation to try and stop him if you fail. When his face covers up with his spiny black armor you lock eyes with him, put your fingers together and whisper, "Genjutsu: Restrict." Your white eyes flash and his pupils dilate rapidly as he breathes out a huge breath and his armor fades away instantly, receding into his neck as he goes weak for a moment and stands. "You did it, Shingen. That's ten in a row."

(Enjoy gaining your 6 MP, which is made 9 by virtue of your smartiness.)

(SUMMARY: After three arduous weeks of training you have gained 30 MP to spend on various and sundry resources. Additionally, the heightened level of your performance as well as your burning drive to succeed has earned you the rank of Special Jonin, Rank 4.)

(However, to receive these delicious bonuses you must decide upon a Nindo for Shingen Hyuuga. Lastly, you and your two comrades grow closer in your 21 days of focused training. Bond: Honda Senjuu and Jako the Berserker achieved.)

Nindo is comprised of 1 sentence for every rank we have. So we get 1 for Genin, 1 for Chunin, and 1 for Special Jonin. For example.
