    rolled 75 = 75

BY THE EMPEROR, IT'S TG QUEST!!!

    Last Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16902450/

You are the Transpace Guard. You are attacking the Black Gate while infiltrating Barad-dur in order to steal a Ring of Power. There's far more, but the recounting will be done when we're not in the middle of a huge fight.

As your forces begin to rout the enemy, sending him fleeing towards the Black Gate, you feel as if you are being watched...

    ----
    Meanwhile...

As the massive battle at the Black Gate occurs, the infiltration at Barad-dur begins. Your cloaked Delta Greens and Tosh advance towards the massive tower. They are undetected for the time being.

Wait, I thought we were keeping the Delta Green team on the Al'Kesh, in order to minimize the size of the infiltration team (Tosh, EMH and 1 Auror) and so that they could provide cover fire if they need to set the Al'Kesh down in case an interdiction field goes up around Barad-dur.

Actually, I got called away from the keyboard.

I'm having trouble accessing the chat for some reason.

The stealth team takes a while, but eventually they find a good place to climb up the walls, the Auror simply flying past jagged battlements and hideous gargoyles. The Auror pauses for a moment to dispel several hidden trap spells as the Stealth Team ascends. In what seems like ages, the final Delta Green scrambles over the top.

They are now on a black iron rampart. Imposing doors of the same metal are to the north and south.

Your Auror manages to unlock the southern door and your team passes through into it. Inside is another door, presumably leading out to more battlements, and spiral stairs leading down. You can barely hear the footfalls of patrolling orcs deeper within the dim-lighted fortress.

Your team descends down the stairs... right into an ascending orc patrol. The orcs don't see you due to your invisibility, but things get confusing when one steps on a DG's foot with a spiked boot and he can't help but utter a strangled curse. Luckily, disaster is averted due to your quick orders for Tosh's mindblast and the Auror's petrify. The off-guard orcs are swiftly and silently taken down, but you have no way of getting rid of the bodies.

You are now on a time limit.

At the bottom of the stairs is a circular chamber with an open door leading out into a small courtyard. It is mostly open space, probably a marshaling yard. Several stacks of firewood and piles of coal are heaped at the rear corners, near a large ramp leading underground. Two large double doors of adamant are the other exits, leading in the direction of the Main Gate, and one leading towards the inner tower.

...and I can't seem to access the JavaChat, no matter what I do.

As someone who participated in the original Editors meta-setting threads, it seems that people have forgotten one of the primary rules of the Editors: Don't touch the protagonists.
When you recruit, you recruit grunts. You could recruit a space marine, but not a Primarch or captain, because that would fuck with canon and you're trying to FIX canon.

Now, on the chat someone told me that /tg/ Quest is set before the editors themselves come into being, which means those rules wouldn't apply. But I'd like to get confirmation from OP.

As one of the co-creators from the original Editors thread, I vouch for this. After the Great Crossover Wars, during which extensive 'recruitment' was needed, the Transpace Guard decided that preventing further crossovers was imperative. Thus, the rule against protagonist interference. I can post a link to the 'official' Codex we have for the setting if anybody wants.

Several mass rifles impact the Ring-Wraith, which lets out a shriek as parts of its armor are crumpled to nothing.

    "EXPECTO! PATRONUM!!!"

A silvery ghost appears in front of the Auror and the Ring-wraith shrinks back from it, attempting to stab the apparition with its blade and failing.

Tosh grimaces as he lashes out with his mind and the Nazgul seems to stagger for a moment. More mass rifle fire tears off more armor as the Auror attempts a petrification spell that still fails.

Maybe crushing it under the stones around it would work? It is a wraith.. they need shapes to wear and beasts to ride. Maybe killing its body would free us of having to deal with it?

In several passages it is stated that Sauron keeps the Nine.

"They would have obeyed . . . any minor command of his that did not interfere with their errand - laid upon them by Sauron, who still through their nine rings (which he held) had primary control of their wills . . . — The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter 246

A burst of gauss rounds blast off the Nazgul's right hand, and Tosh dashes forward to pick up the gauntlet. The wraith shrieks in impotence, slashing at Tosh as he retrieves the item. Piss off, out of Barad-Dur and the Black Gate.
Get the Delta Greens some Auror, EMH, Egon and BLU Medic-related healing if they still live.
Stuff any dead KIs or X-com soldiers in recovery tanks.
Pick up Spike and the Sandmen (and the Booze) from Rivendell
    Give Ahriman the ring
    Tally our losses

From this world, we managed to:
    1. Stop Ahriman, a chaos sorceror, from interfering with the plot.
    2. Prevent a Shipper from interfering with the plot, and also collect evidence of her past crimes.
    3. Loot a shitload of swords
    4. Loot a shipper vessel, which contained a Bomb that could hurt chaos demons.

Our research topics for the moment are:
    Defensive applications of reality emitters
Use of Ghost traps on a wider range of targets
The Bomb that the shipper used to repel chaos demons
Middle Earthen Elven magic from the scrolls and swords we obtained (The Aurors should work on this, not the Scientists)

Our manufacturing topics for the moment are:
    Repair of Gurthang

When we get back to base, we need magic protection, psi protection, more SCIENCE!, and more information-gathering tools (be they upgraded sensors, plot-o-vision, telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, or people with uncanny intuition).

Just as the first orc comes up the stairs, the Al'Kesh swoops down, laying a suppressing fire while gathering its wards to it. 3. Have ANON project potential canon damage from giving a Nazgul ring to Ahriman
    4. Cleanup the black gate. Beam up any non-canon materials from the battle site. Sauron cannot get his hands on them.

THEN speak to Ahri, only IF the ring is safe to pass.

N.B. Would it be possible to embed a tracking beacon in the containment box when we hand the ring over? It could be good to know where Ahriman is in future. He might be useful.

    >3. Have ANON project potential canon damage from giving a Nazgul ring to Ahriman
    Definitely needing to do this.

The big reasons why we went after the Dwarven Rings of Power was because fighting Ahriman would introduce large casualties, and such a big battle so close to the Protagonists would disrupt Canon, and because the Dwarven Rings are only mentioned in the Canon, but never seen, used, or recovered, making their disappearance from their resting place non-damaging.

But now, we've got one of the Nine, possibly taking out a Ringwraith before the story has concluded. This presents uncertainty. We may have damaged the Canon in some way.

Also, maybe we should get a group of Final Fantasy White Mages, or at least some other magical healing specialists.
Having magic healers attached to each away team should minimize casualties to instant vaporization only.

Using the elven lore, you are able to locate enough kingsfoil to begin working on a treatment. However, according to the lore, it works best when prepared by an elf or someone of royal blood, suggesting some sort of bloodline magic. Trying to trade with Sauron is pointless. I sincerely doubt that this ring is more or less important canonically than the other ring, neither of which are ever important to the story. Further, the negotiations are almost certain to end only with violence, and killing piles of Sauron's warriors while leaving evidence of our presence is more likely to cause canon disruptions than choosing this secondary ring over another secondary ring.

I don't know why we didn't just try to kill Ahriman in the first place, but we're long past that. Let's just conclude our dealings with him and have done with this world.

    1. Get our Delta Green boys down to Tom Bombadil, to see if we can ask him nicely to heal our men.
1a. Science team continues work on the Kingsfoil treatment, in case Tom is off on one of his journeys and isn't available.
    2. We fire an arrow with a message into the Black Gate (BLU Sniper).
2a. Message is to tell Sauron that we have one of the Nine; we are willing to trade it for one of the Seven. He has 6 hours to make the trade. If he wants to make the trade, he is to fly a white flag above the Black Gate.
    3. Have Egon work on creating a scanner that can tell apart a real Ring of Power from a fake, using the one Nine and damaged Seven we have as a baseline.

If Sauron tries to jerk us around or stalls for time, we just go ahead and give the one of the Nine we have to Ahriman.

    That is baseless supposition. Let's ask and see whether it's true;

ANON: Calculate the importance to canon of the ring in our possession compared to one of the seven rings that Sauron possesses. If the other rings are significantly less important to canon, include calculation of how likely we are to disrupt canon by attempting to negotiate for one of them. I suspect that it is significantly less disruptive to simply leave with this one.

(As an aside, why did we go scavenging for random elven weapons? That seems to fly in the face of our mission - they're local artifacts of great significance.)

No, our purpose is to make sure that Canon is maintained and that reality distortions are eliminated. The exact state of a Canon doesn't matter as long as the Canon's narration of events is maintained and no reality distortions are detected.

    Enough!

Let's stop fighting. We're all here for the same reason, to enjoy this quest.

Then you should have been more specific in which part of the original poster you were referring to.

Also, the plan of action you endorsed means we leave before we either have the cure for the Black Breath finished, or have the two afflicted Delta Green agents cured by Tom Bombadil.

While it's possible that a magical healer back at Sector HQ could heal the illness, there is no assurance of that.

    >>16919490
No, because that plan has us leaving before we cure or treat the Delta Green agents, and there's no assurance that there's a medic mage on-staff at Sector HQ who can cure the Black Breath.

I think if we distracted on the ground battle more, we wouldn't have the Nazgul running inside the tower.

We distracted as much as we could without entering the Black Gate and leaving everyone to die inside. Let's simply take care of the 'now' instead of the 'then' by treating the Black Breath, giving the ring, and continuing the mission.

Maybe. Or we could have waited a little longer, since it looked like that the Nazgul was about to leave.
We could have also tried to use orbital scanners to see if a Nazgul was still at Barad-dur.

You're teleporting Darius to Bombadil, yes? Finding the Old Forest is easy enough, as is transport there. Darius is only a few minutes' hike into the woods when he hears the following song echo through the air.

"Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!
Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!"

The song gets louder as Darius moves closer to it, eventually seeing a short man in bright blue clothes and yellow boots.

"Sir!" Darius calls out. "Are you... Tom Bombadil?"

"Tom I be, and Tom I am.
And you are a tall, powerful, not-quite man.
From far away, for I know you not.
Now, then, aren't you here on behalf of some poor man's lot?"

"Poor men, to be more accurate, sir. We have two men suffering from the Black Breath, and were hoping that you would be able to cure them."

Annoying and roundabout he might seem, Tom Bombadil is not an entity to be messed with. Best to go with politeness.

"Er... yes. Two of my companions were felled by Nazgul and... well, we're not sure how to cure..." Darius begins. Tom cuts him off with a waggle of his finger.

    "Tut-tut, warrior of space.
An ailment like that isn't hard to erase.
Old Tom is a merry fellow, here I am the master!
My songs are stronger songs, and my feet are faster!"

"Ah... all right?" Darius says, a little confused.

You beam the two afflicted Deltas down to Tom and he sings a song and dances around them. The ritual succeeds in reviving the two soldiers, though they feel decidedly less manly at being healed by singing and dancing than by more traditional means.

    >he knows we're from space
He might make a powerful contact. He breaks 'rules' in the Canon like nobody's business, so it may be well to 'leave him our card' so to speak.

Also, make sure to bump the compensation for the affected Delta's up. They're going to get a lot of shit around the mess hall for being revived by song and dance, aren't they?

    Great!
Now, thank Tom. Tell him we'll make sure that the gate that was opened up near Rivendell is closed.

Then go over to Ahriman and hand over the Ring in the Containment Box. As per the deal, he's to give us what information he has on The Event, then leave and not come back.

Considering his power, and his knowledge of the Meta, he might make a useful first-responder for Canon breaches.
He probably has the power to breach the Canon walls; we could let him know how to get in contact with TG if he needs us to come in and remove a reality distortion.

He could go toe to toe with a SUE on account of how few fucks he gives, let alone his sheer power in the Canon.

Also ask if the Void is an actual place, like is Melkor contained, or is he just outside the universe?
