    253 KB TG Quest 18: Blades and Barad-dur. OP 11/10/11(Thu)00:23 No.16902450
BY THE FETID BREATH OF KAZON, IT'S TG QUEST!!!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16899605/

You are the command crew of the Transpace Guard Ship, The Oncoming Storm. For the last day you have traveled across Middle-Earth, hunting down items of power to aid you not only in your short term goal of gaining a Lesser Ring of Power, but in your overarching mission to stabilize space-time for this region, and to investigate the Event. Thanks to some quick thinking, lucky rolling, and good planning, these efforts have resulted in weal rather than woe. You have managed to gain your items, but the time has come to infiltrate Barad-dur and steal one of the last remaining Dwarf-Rings of Power.

You must finalize your plans and gather your party before venturing forth.

    Magic weapon deployment:
    Ringil - Darius
    Anguirel - Star-Lord
    Nameless Sword - Demoman
    Voiceless Spear - Knight Inductor
Gurthang - Knight Inductor (to flash it around but not actually use it; it needs to be reforged before use)

Distraction Team will attack Barad-dur from the front. Team to be composed of KI Team 1, X-COM veterans, Mobile Infantry, Star-Lord, Darius, BLU Team.
Egon to use ghost trap circuitry to create a Containment Box that will nullify the Ring's powers.

Stealth Team to be beam into the back of Barad-dur after the attack has started and we see Sauron's attention has shifted, via Al'Kesh which will be cloaked.
They will sneak in, find a Ring, and use a transporter beacon so that the EMH can arrive and put a Ring into the Containment Box.
Beam out if possible, sneak out and get onto Al'Kesh if not.

Have Overlord dropship with mechs on standby to assist in the distraction.

    >>16902472
    One more alteration:
Have the Overlord and the Leopards come down a short distance from the front gates of Barad-dur. We need flashy, and dropships coming down on pillars of flame don't get much flashier.
Also, we need to make it apparent how the Distraction Team is arriving; if we show off our transporter tech and teleportation magic, Sauron will immediately be on guard for a sneak attack.
He's a super-genius, he won't let something like that slip.

Otherwise, instead of having the Distraction Team attack Barad-dur, have it attack either the Black Gate or Minas Morgul.
The reason why is because, if we attack farther away, we make Sauron think our range is limited and he won't expect an attack on Barad-dur.
    >> Tolkienfag 11/10/11(Thu)00:27 No.16902483
That should be it. Anyone agree to the above plan?
    >> Anonymous 11/10/11(Thu)00:29 No.16902494
    >>16902483
It was my plan, so I'm still for it.

As I said at the end of the last thread:

Also, if we use the idea of making a big entrance using the B-Tech dropships while keeping the Inde and the Al'Kesh cloaked, then we can also deploy the battlemechs and all of our spare teams from defensible positions.

We're trying to scare the ever-living shit out of Sauron, making him think that some hold-out group of Noldor got ahold of First Age weaponry cache that was hidden away, and decided to fuck up his shit. An Overlord dropship dispensing Hellstars, Madcats, and MLRS launchers should do pretty nicely.

That's a little to much you think? A band of a few warriors with blades of immense power is going to get his attention right quick.

Also, tell Darius to shout out something heroic basically calling Sauron to send his worse for he has brought the blade Ringil to hinder him. That should gauge the Dark Lord's interest.

I'm very worried about Sauron's gaze mindfucking the people in those vehicles. Char should be safe as he's a hero and the MLRS should be safe since they confirm their targets before firing, but the other mechs should stay home.

We can probably start the operation once Egon says whether he can build that Containment Box or not.

Also, there's the chance that as soon as we pocket one of the Rings, Sauron will realize what's going on, and set up an interdiction field.
Hopefully, Sauron will have the Rings somewhere up in one of the towers of Barad-dur.
That way, the Al'Kesh can simply blow open one of the walls in order to provide the Stealth Team with an exit.

While this is going on, Spike and the Sandmen should be in Rivendell bullshitting with the locals, and just making sure nobody else is fucking with the canon. Last thing we need is for the Shipper's hidden lesbian girlfriend to kidnap Frodo.

We should have gotten the X-COM folks to come up with something to bolt onto the VF-25's for atmospheric use (like our own version of the Tornado packs). Maybe something that we can mix-and-match with the Super Packs?

Anyway, if not battlemechs on the field, then I guess we should have the Brasta around to protect ground troops from anything flying.

    Where is the ring located?
if it's in a wizard tower maybe we can just launch a piece of metal through the side at supersonic velocity from just above the horizon using one of our ships to snatch it, and collect it once it's a few hundred kilometers away from sauron

Alternatively, the Touhouverse can be seen as a largely tranquil place, but full to the brim of smug, powerful youkai and equally smug legendary heroes who can and will duel you at a moment's notice using nonlethal, but staggering and magic. The canon is very vaguely defined, and there are likely a million different valid interpretations on the nature of things in there. This may lead to some complications when attempting to recruit characters from there. In addition, one of the major players in the Touhouverse is a youkai whose main schtick is to manipulate boundaries between things (i.e. realities, distances, etc.) and may be aware of the Meta; if she doesn't want us in there, it might be very difficult to find a way around her. It may be beyond our paygrade (or not cost-effective for TG) to recruit someone from there unless we attempt to do so in person.

Melchior may be a more reasonable choice. In addition to being able to being a savant at making magical melee weaponry, he was also heavily involved in creating the magical machinery that made the Kingdom of Zeal so powerful during its time. If we needed an expert on magitech or such, he would be a good choice.

Answer: Nothing. Which is exactly what we want, because that'll mean his most powerful servants will be tied up fighting a Space Marine Hero wielding a legendary elven blade of the First Age that wounded Morgoth. Darius won't be in any real danger of dying, while the Nazgul will be very preoccupied not getting their asses kicked. In the meantime, we'll be able to stroll in and get the dwarven rings.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure most of the time we've seen Nazgul, they haven't exactly been showing their full potential.

So, contingencies if the Nazgûl are deployed:
    1. Do nothing, this is what we want.
    2. Emergency beam-out with the Indefatigable.
    3. Overlord and Leopards come down on pillars of fire and "Unleash the Wrath of Manwë".

If the Nazgûl AREN'T deployed to the Black Gate and are still at Barad-dûr, then we fight even harder to force Sauron to deploy them or risk major damage to the Black Gate.

    Does this sound about right?

We probably don't want our infiltration team to run into them, so having them be fighting Darius and company is better than having them lurking within Barad-Dur, just waiting for one bad roll to let them find our troops.

Guys, the WITCH-KING isn't named for nothin'. He does have power, some kind of power that Tolkien is very vague about. But still, power.

Also, is it a good idea to have troops armed with Ballistic Weaponry and a Space Marine in Astartes Armor fighting at the black gate. Can we have Darius fight outside his armor and have our troops use swords/bows. We need to make Sauron think we are Noldor. And if we do need to save Darius and company, we have mechs, which will seem like Maiar spirits to Sauron.

But we need to armor them in SOMETHING. Where are we going to get mithril plate and chain shirts on such short notice?
Well...I suppose we could replicate some, but they won't be magical.

Holo-emitters will probably not be too effective, nor any illusion spells, as soon as Sauron's Gaze is upon them. He'll be able to penetrate such illusions handily.

We could probably add a silvery layer to the power armor in order to make it look like mithril.
If we do that to all of the power armor, make it look like suits of mithril full plate, that may be enough.

Considering some of the magic weapons wielded during the First Age, we may not need to hide the guns too much. Sauron might just chalk it up to magic weaponry.

We could have Delta Green snipers supporting the Stealth Team, but every person on the ground exponentially increases the chances of being detected.

I think it better if the support team stay in the Al'Kesh, so that if the transporter can't be used, then they can fire their sniper rifles from the open doors of the troop transport as it comes down for an emergency pickup.

    Magic weapon deployment:
    Ringil - Darius
    Anguirel - Star-Lord
    Nameless Sword - Demoman
    Voiceless Spear - Knight Inductor
Gurthang - Knight Inductor (to flash it around but not actually use it; it needs to be reforged before use)

Distraction Team will attack the Black Gate from the front. Team to be composed of KI Team 1, X-COM veterans, Mobile Infantry, Star-Lord, Darius, BLU Team. They will be specially disguised via metallic coatings and actual armor (in the case of BLU Team) to look like a force of Noldor holdouts who found a First Age weapons cache and decided to fuck up Sauron's shit.
They will be beamed down a way away from the Gate, and out of view, so that Sauron will not see our beaming technology in action.

Delta Green to be on the Al'Kesh to provide fire support if they can't beam out, and need the Al'Kesh to land to pick up the team.
Beam out if possible, sneak out and get onto Al'Kesh if not.

Have Overlord dropship with mechs on standby to assist in the distraction.

Knights Inductor Team 2 is not part of this plan because they are still required to guard the Chaos gate.

Spike and the Sandmen could be placed as part of the Distraction Team, since the Sandmen could make themselves look like elves, but I believe that they should be kept in reserve along with UNIT and the SCP in case the Distraction Team needs reinforcements.

Finally, everyone has emergency transporter armbands in case of trouble.

So this it the speech >>16905456
Comprise the team largely of Knights Inductor, in their armor. The formal pattern should fit into the fantasy well enough for the task. And on some cloaks and flourishes. Not sure who else to include, KI are good for cool heads and corruption resistance, and we need people able to remember the mission is to distract and harrass, rather than cause great damage. Orc deaths probably won't hurt anything, they are many and generally similar, can't kill anything important though, like Nazgul.

That sounds about right and clear!

Don't forget to use/merge the speeches we composed for Darius. A proper challenge must be made to fully draw Sauron's attention. It would be ever so fitting that, just as Morgoth's attention was drawn away from the retreating Noldor by Fingolfin, so should Sauron's be drawn from his precious treasures by Darius.

    One final piece of fine-tuning:
2 Aurors go with the Distraction Team, to provide magic protection if the Nazgul show up.
1 Auror (not the clumsy one!) goes with Tosh as the Stealth Team.

Remember to use the Al'Kesh for the beam out of the distraction team, the Asgard Teleporters pick-up faster than the Federation ones, and the flash of light from them can seem more magical than the trek version.

    But of course, Sir Peter.

You set your replicators to work crafting bric-a-brac and doodads to place on your armor to make them seem more fantastical. It is early evening when all the preparations are complete.

Your team beams down near the Black Gate and begins its short march towards the imposing structure. Your small platoon stands before the gigantic gate in a matter of minutes, Darius at the forefront hold Ringil aloft. Your more eagle-eyed troops notice sentries on the Gate that clearly see you. Darius steps forward and speaks.

The Black Gate groans mightily as it opens a sliver, allowing a man dressed in black armor and robes, bearing the banner of the Lidless Eye to trot forward.

"My master, Sauron the Great, bids thee welcome, oh Knights of the Imperium," he hisses through discolored teeth. 1. Shields up! Everyone activate their kinetic barriers.
    2. Aurors, do your stuff. Finally the 2 Aurors are in a fight where their magic can't be defended against, and where the enemy has no mages to counter-spell.
    3. Have the engineers on the Inde try to modulate the phaser array to fire in the infra-red range, in order to create an invisible heat-ray firing from the Heavens.

Between the Auror shields, kinetic barriers, and quality of armor the troops already have, the first volley of arrows does nothing, stopped by magic, shield, and armor. The return fire of your expeditionary force is more effective. Blaster bombs detonate on the ramparts, sending orcs flying. Archers suddenly turn and shoot their fellows under psi-control. Bolter and autocannon fire rip across the walls as your group advances towards the gate. The orcish archers are reinforced quickly, but already their numbers begin to thin.

I'm part way through the archives reading up on this quest and the constant references to the chaos ship that keeps showing up and then this quote from the gman
    >"Though the Event itself is rather... simple... you will find cleaning it up may not be. DOORS HAVE BEEN OPENED. Prissssoners have been set free.
Is rather indicitive of new chaos from the open door.
Standard chaos doesn't really have any knowledge of the multiverse, however the entire premise of the open door is that the new chaos gods formed from the protagonists of Neon Genesis Evangellion have escaped into the multiverse and are busy subverting other universes.

The stilleto is a large ship that they use as a vanguard that keeps turning up in different
    realities.

Or perhaps all of this has already been mentioned and I just havn't reached it in the archives yet.

The Knights Inductor charge the armored trolls, and are almost immediately sent sailing through the air as the massive creatures crash immense stone and metal clubs into them. Ceramite armor and their unnatural toughness prevents killing blows for most of them, but even so their combat formation is scattered. Demoman charges into combat with a loud scream, raising the Nameless Blade high, only to catch a troll club directly on the head. The impact pounds him into a drunken Scottish cyclopean pancake. His form vanishes soon after to be respawned, leaving the Nameless Blade embedded in the mud. An arrow sticks into one of the trolls as Sniper advances with the Huntsman, but he, alongside the Scout, achieve flight thanks to a trollish mace. As they sail through the sky, Sniper strikes a flying X-COM veteran, who is forced to dip low enough that another troll manages to catch him with a heavy, spiked chain. The veteran is pulled to the ground as another troll hits him repeatedly with a morning-star until the Flying Armor cracks like an egg-shell.

Some of the orcs cheer at this and begin to reform, though the bulk of their number is still fleeing.

Darius and Star-Lord continue to dance in and out of the troll's reach. Though they manage several shallow wounds, every time they come close to a killing blow, they are forced back by a troll-strike. Darius himself takes a troll-make to the chest, flinging him back a few feet. But as a Space Marine, his body is iron and his armor ceramite. The emblem on his front is cracked and damaged, Darius himself spitting blood, but he stands and roars defiance with Ringil in hand.

The X-COM troops take to the air once more, and a deadly aerial duel between the Heroes of Cydonia and the Hell-Hawks begins. A Fell-Beast explodes in a bloody shower of gore as a Blaster-Bomb detonates against its stomach. Another suddenly screams and sets upon the orcs at the Gate in a frenzy. A final one has its head melt and its wing bursts into flame as plasma bolts bore into it.

But by the same token, an X-COM veteran dies to crushing jaws. Another has the misfortune of being swallowed up by one of the larger beasts. One Knight Inductor is torn limb from limb.

Though your troops are beginning to take casualties, they are selling their lives at a dear, dear, price.

Star-Lord finally has enough, jumping into the air to land on back of a troll and slicing down with his elven blade. Anguirel slides nearly through the troll-hide to sever the beasts' head as Star-Lord leaps off and rolls to his feet. Almost as if to try to best Star-Lord, Darius waits until his troll swings his mace again, the raises Ringil and cuts through the haft of the weapon, driving the blade further to open a horrendous gash in the monster's chest. The troll lets out a shrill cry of pain as it slumps down.

Meanwhile, the other troops have managed to regain their footing and are advancing on the gate once again, several of the Fell-beasts taking wing and flying back over the structure at the beck of some unknown call.
