Blurg. I feel bad. Nevermind the fact that my Comp needed to be wiped, causing me to lose everything in my C:/ drive since... well, thread 5, my body decides that today is the day that I'll be shatting my insides out, oh and having a nasty headache as well.

    Fooking luvverly.

    Anyway.

You are (by popular anonymous demand) David Lister, Lieutenant of the Zeon Military, Ace mobile suit pilot and leader of Garma Zabi's personal honour guard.

The Honour Guard currently consists of two three man squads, a combat squad, and a support squad.

    Your motley crew consists of:

    Ensign Zolomon Ringo

A manly man, Zolomon Ringo has been your wingman since the beginning of the ground war, and together you've been getting slapped by women and causing barfights across america.
The man is an unholy menace with a pair of heat axes.

    Corporal Jolyne Brande

Joined the unit after you were transferred to the 321 Company. A chequered dossier of insuboordination kept her from promotion on several occaisions, but perhaps if superior officers stopped hitting on her, she wouldn't have to break so many of their jaws.

Not even throwing up. I just feel totally run down, no matter how much I eat, and then there's near imperciptable pains in my gut, but that's probably something to do with all of the thoroughfare that's been going through it.

    I'm 90% sure it's not Diabetes.

    THE STORY SO FAR:
You've been somewhat playing matchmaker between your young erstwhile charge: Garma Zabi and one Icelina Eschonbach. After a couple of romantic night dinners at the Zeonic GHQ in California, Garma has made the suggestion that he feels like visiting New York to meet with the troops.

The fact that this is Icelina's hometown that she has been cut off from since the ground invasion is of course a TOTAL COINCIDENCE.

Well, we can´t argue with our boss, But tell him that we should keep a escort, after all, our Mobile Suits arn´t suited for Aircombat/Dogfighting, So should we be ambushed while travelling we might be sitting ducks.

So it is either keeping an Airforce escort occupied or to travel at a low altitude incase of a ambush.

The Generals have hashed out an idea for your perusal. After the business in Canada, they've opted for a slightly larger escort contingent than just a Gaw and you on Dodais.

This time around they are proposing a flight of 2 Gaw's one containing Garma's Zaku and the Hildolfr, and the other containing the rest of squad 2 (and you possible, the Dodai you used last time reported several high stress failures when it was checked out. It's possible that your Prototype Dom is too heavy to safely ride one.)

ANY ADDITIONS YOU WANT TO MAKE TO THE PLAN?

FURTHERMORE, WHAT SORT OF LOADOUT DO YOU WANT?

AND WHILE YOU'RE DISCUSSING THAT, I'LL HAVE MY DINNER.

The Gouf is pretty much speced for Zols personal use now, Using it would probably be pretty hard seeing how we are sane(Or so we think anyway.).

Meanwhile the Zaku is still pretty much the same as when we left it.

I think we should go with the suit we are familiar with in this case.

And let´s not forget that a Melee suit would be in a considerable disadavantage if we were ambushed in air, Zolomon can get by thanks to his incredible aiming skills with the Heat Hawks, Us? Im having my doubts about that.

So i say we take the Dom or Zaku, As the Gouf is now i think that Zolomon is the only one who can make it preform satisfiably in air. (Remember, Zolomon replaced most of the weaponry when he got it.)

I think we should keep the 880mm Bazooka, After all if all goes well, we will probably be having ground battles while being in New York.
Crippling our strenght via Overspecialization would be devastating.

And the Bazooka can clear heavier targets pretty easily. So should we run into something heavily armored we would still have the raw power to deal with it.

I mean, we do want to breed out his "charge at the drop of a hat" tendencies, but if he seems like he would honestly be better at close combat then why not give him a machine that can actually do that?

Also, tactics-wise, we should keep our Dom in the rear as a sort of mobile reserve. Not because we're protecting our own skin, but because the FUCKHUGE bazooka seems like a "kill things from miles away" sort of weapon, and because the superior speed of the Dom would actually allow us to keep moving back and forth as different parts of the squad need support.

To add to this, because I hadn't thought of it when I posted this, we should get some of Jolyne's input on the Dom as well. High mobility + high carrying capacity = amazing field artillery platform, at least potentially, and we might want to send that idea back to GHQ.

Heck, we're looking at a combined arms deal here. Goufs and their successors at close range, Doms as highly mobile support units, Zaku-successors as your multi-role line infantry, mobile armors like the Hildolfr as heavy artillery and anti-capship units.

One last thought, for now: assuming it isn't either really metagame-y or a question that Dave just wouldn't think to ask, why don't we ask Okawara about any ways the Feddies might be getting around the power issues that beam weapons have?

I mean, we know they're putting a decent bit of research into it, but we can probably safely assume that they haven't vastly improved the reactors they'd have available (except maybe on the Gundam, but we definitely don't know that), so they must have some way of getting enough power delivered to a beam weapon in a single burst to make it useful.

And yes, this is what we're thinking of in-character; out-of-character, I know that we're basically talking about the capacitor system the Feddies used on the GMs.

Were there any other major canon innovations that the Feddies had relative to Zeon suits?

And for that matter, has our mention of Feddie mobile suits after our time in the desert had any follow-on effects? Not just in terms of our having a direct line to warn Garma, but also in terms of other similar reports coming in from other fronts being taken more seriously?

You know, perhaps we should try recommending to Garma that Zeonic forces start getting a stable defensive line ready, a la the Hindenberg line in WWI. Just before the Feddies begin their inevitable counteroffensive, Zeon pulls back to lines that are actually defensible with its available resources, evacuating or destroying anything of possible use to the Feddies as they do it.

Garma has already said that he knows that the Fed's titanic industrial base is their main advantage now, and that the longer the war drags on, the better their situation will get.

As far as suit development goes, the V Project's main breakthroughs were in beam weapons and in armor materials. It pioneered luna titanium alloy as armor, which is what gave the Gundam and its fellows their legendary immunity to most projectile weapons. The only other major innovation I can think of is the electromagnetic joint coating solution, but we don't have to worry about that until after Amuro becomes a rape machine.

I'll try to flesh out this strategy a bit more, then.

As Zeon, that population/industry imbalance means that we are not going to be able to simply conquer the Federation. We don't have the ability to do it, and we sure as hell don't have the ability to hold on to it afterwards if we did somehow do it.

Furthermore, because of the same imbalance, there are limits to just how far we can expand before our lines are thin enough for the Feddies to be able to concentrate their forces and break through.

Our big advantage is that we do currently have the initiative; the Feddies simply don't have the tech to beat us on quality (yet) and we still have a good month or three before they pull themselves back together enough to launch a major, sustained offensive. That is not, however, enough time for us to win if we keep attacking, as they do have enough forces in the field to mount a mostly-adequate defensive.

I´ll rant now, So please excuse me.

Actually, Looking at our chances, this seems kinda silly, To get in on that attack we would need to join up with Char, the one who set the things that ended in Zeons defeat into motion, we would proably not have a very good mobile suit available since it was a RECON mission rather then a full out attack. Ina normal Zaku we have NO chance in hell to defeat Amuro, First Sortie or not.

Meanwhile we have a better chance at changin the political climate to our adavantage here, Do you REALLY think we would have found those documents if we were fighting in Space.

Let´s not forget that by saving Garma we.

    1) Keep Old man Zabi sane.
    2) Foil Chars plans to ruin Zeon just because his dad died.
    3) Possibly improve relations with earth via his and Icelina´s Relationship.
    4) Keep Gihren from power.
    5) Make us gain territory on earth faster, Possibly making us get Jaburo earlier, Meaning that we can get to it faster if White Base somehow would get away.
    6) If we some how fail at saving Garma(God Forbid.), we can join up with Ramba Ral, Giving him the additional firepower he needs to take White Base

A minute later the Captain opens comms again.

    While waiting, more strategizing.

Our best solution is to find solid defensive lines NOW and start fortifying them. Get the infrastructure rebuilt, supply dumps readied, and all other preparations made. This also includes getting as much of the industrial plant and resource extraction in the occupied zones as possible running again, for our use. Any areas we will withdraw from as a result of this plan will have as much in the way of useful materials removed as possible; anything that cannot be removed will be destroyed, preventing the Feddies from using it once the territory is retaken. This also means that in order to reach our primary defensive line, the Feddies will have to traverse a zone at minimum several miles deep where the infrastructure needed to support such an advance is totally gone and will have to be rebuilt from scratch.

Further offensives should be limited and specific, aimed either at acquiring better terrain from which to mount that defense, at seizing especially vital resource deposits, or at denying some critical facility to the Feddies.

This bit of relative downtime would also give us the chance to devote more resources and effort to developing and fielding our own next-generation weaponry, instead of replacements for gear worn out by the stresses of constant offensive operations.

Even more critical, it would give us time to actually train proper replacements for the skilled personnel lost during the One Week War and Loum, instead of immediately committing them to support further offensives or to desperately hold the line against Feddie attacks.

Mrf. Looking at the stats for the thing, the Proto-Gouf doesn't even have the fanjets listed - just rocket thrusters of unknown capacity. The Mass-production Dom just has the fanjets, with a much lower total output that the Zaku's rockets.

It has a backpack with thrusters, you COULD survive an airdrop (Dom's did it at Odessa when trying to support the area after all), but you have less margin for error than the Zaku does. So if you do end up bailing out, try not to get hit by AA Missiles on the way down.

Luckily, the Gaw's are carrying a couple of spare Dodais and Jolyne and Shiro are able to mount in mid air. With some trouble, Shiro nearly stumbles whilst jumping and the Dodai takes a little bit of damage, luckily it's still working.

look, we are ON TOP of the plane.

the enemy can attack from BELOW

lowering our altitude will limit their ability to shoot the shit out of us from angles that we can't return fire.

It will also minimize the time that the hilda and garma are floating targets during their paradrops, which is a pretty big deal.

we don't have to terrain follow, but getting down to 1-2 thousand feet above the ground will make it very difficult to get under us.

how about we call up our ol' pal RINGO and have him break off his engagement to circle back and RAMBO STYLE those annoying AA tanks.

We all know how he loves tanks. If we stay on our gaw we should be able to make up for his absence.
Also, since he has a dodai that he can ditch safely before he gets stuck in, he'll be able to catch back up with us after he finishes the AA off.

Were any of those hidden airfields put back into service by us? If anybody knows that one, it should be Garma.

If the answer is "yes", then the Gaws make for that once we're out. Given our Dom's ground speed, we can make it to Iowa in about two to three hours, and less if we release the limiters a bit.

Well, i'm on the other side of the world from UnitedStatesia, so I don't know their geography all that well.

Regardless - I think we should just bypass the AA altogether and raise alititude. Errant fighters are probably easier to handle than a wall of flak.

while ringo deals with the AA, have the gaws raise altitude.

Question, are we riding the gaw that Garma and the Hilda are in?
If so, have the other, empty gaw fly underneath us to block our belly from attack.

If not, have our gaw fly above the gaw that garma is in, so we can protect it from above.

You opt to take out enemy AA tanks, maybe the airfield as well if it's down there. As you move to jump off, your Gaw suddenly opens fire with with it's close range AA guns upwards.

"It's an ambush! 11 enemy fighters coming in from the clouds! One is a minovsky spreader! Looks like 5 heavy fighters and 5 Fighter/Bombers! Remainders of the squadrons already engaged most likely!"

Land the Gaw. Now. Otherwise it's just going to get shot out of the air. And there's no way we can get the Hildolfr and Garma out right now without the flak chewing them to bits.

If necessary, we can still make it to New York in one Gaw by doing what I suggested a few posts back.

Tell everyone to brace for a hard landing, and have Hovis be ready to get the Hildolfr out the moment we're down.

Meanwhile, we need to take down that squadron. Get a bazooka round off at them, switch to MG when they get close. And use our Limiter Release skill so that if needs be we can jump from the Gaw to those attacking planes, nail at least one or two of them (Heat Saber might be good for that if we're close enough) and then hit the ground as fast as we can survive and walk away from in fighting condition.

    >As you move to jump off

this means that we were going to jump off, but something else happened. We haven't jumped yet. And we aren't going too. Not yet anyway.

Gain altitude, shoot the ambushers down, protect the gaw from the AA and continue on to new york.

You lads should keep your heads. We're in a dom, these 11 ambushers are facing a prototype unit the Federation hasn't even seen yet. Once we down a few the rest should "realize" that this intel is worth more than their lives and run.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/10(Fri)18:41 No.7495096
Continue jumping off to supress the ack ack. Get the Gaw as low as possible once the AAA is supressed so that Hovis and Garma can bail.

When that's done start making for the nearest friendly city.

Have the rest of the squad reconnoiter there.

    >> Voleron 01/08/10(Fri)18:44 No.7495147
    >>7494948

    Start shooting them. Of course.

Have our Gaw move to cover Garma's, and have him and the Hildolfr ready for an emergency disembark.

/If/ the Gaws take heavy damage, the lot of us bail and go to grond, staying mobile. We then wait for our air forces to force the fighters to retreat and then link up together.

best to stick together still. No need to have everyone bail out and completely abandon the plan to get to new york and divert our entire force to some out of the way airstrip where we can be attacked again. You know, since this clearly isn't friendly territory and all.

Remember, at this point nobody has even taken damage. Let's just keep our heads and start shooting things out of the sky.

You swing your Zook upwards and fire at the diving planes. You manage to strike one of the divebombing Fly Mantas head on, and the large blast engulfs two more of the planes in a single blow. Bullets and missiles craze around you scoring deep rents in the Gaw you are piloting. Luckily they seem to be concentrating on your empty Gaw as opposed to Garma's.
Probably because there's a giant mobile suit with a ginormous bazooka on it, shooting at them for great effect.
Your second shot goes wide, but does force several Saberfish off their attack line.

The Gaws guns manage to kill a couple more Fly Mantas. This takes care of them, but you've still got the Saber Fish to worry about.

    KILLS: 3 Fly Manta's
