You are currently on top of a Gaw Heavy Carrier Plane, shooting at enemy Heavy Fighters as they chew your ride to pieces as you blow the shit out of them with a 360mm Bazooka.
    >> Anonymous 01/08/10(Fri)19:03 No.7495473
Fucking, uh, Hrmm. Fire our massive bazooka in front of the enemy fighters.

Aim for right in front of them.

Do we have grenades? I forgot. Toss them.

Did we bring the MG or not? I can't recall if we decided on that.

At any rate, keep shooting. Even with a bazooka, we should be able to handle a handful of fighters on our own - especially with the Gaw's help.

Also, did we gain enough altitude to be able to avoid the flak AA? If not, we should do that.

    >>7495480
    yup.

fairly consistent too, this ball dropping habit of theirs.
I would bet someone high up has it in for Garma. We'll have to look into this once we finish up wiping the floor with feddie scum here.

    >>7495394
Would it be more efficient to switch to out MG at this point? Seems like it would be better against fighters than a bazooka, even with our lucky first hit.

Once the ambush fighters are taken care of, increase altitude to avoid the ground AA.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/08/10(Fri)19:07 No.7495534
Priority target is the Minovsky-generating plane. Kill that and we might be able to get a message out. Also, as soon as we run out of frag ammo for the bazooka we should switch to the MG; the fighters can probably dodge other types of rocket.

Check on the situation with the Dopps and the rest of our squad.

Since the Hildolfr does have its Zaku arms, see if it can literally throw grenades out the back of its Gaw onto the AAA.

Your Gaw rocks violently as another barrage of missiles from the Saberfish gouge holes in it's belly. You can see smoke billowing out from the undercarriage. You hope the landing gear hasn't been hit.

You rush as far forwards as you dare and pull out your 90mm. You fire a short burst at a passing Fighter and are rewarded with it bursting into flames as you scores a couple of hit's on it's engines.

You swing your gun around firing short careful bursts at the enemy. You manage to clip another, forcing it to disengage.
You dodge to the side, narrowly avoiding a salvo of rockets, the wing behind you however is not so lucky.
Explosions shake the plane and black smoke begins to billow from the engine. You're not sure but you think it's starting to tilt to one side.

You fire back at the offending fighter, a bullet strikes it clean in the cockpit and though smoke and metal are trailing behind it, you notice that it's still heading straight towards you on a collision couse.

Whether or not you could have dodged the offending vehicle is considered moot as you see a metal heat lash, whip around its nose and then in a highly smooth motion, Zolomon's Gouf flips around (still on his Dodai) and hurls the wrecked plane into another one in a giant ball of flame.

"SIR! I think it's time to get off this plane!"

We need to keep this train rolling on to new york no matter what. It's pretty clear that they knew we were coming and if they can slow us down and force us to the ground, its going to be 1500 miles of foot-slogging fending off constant feddie ambushes/attacks.

Man, I thought I'd missed this completely!

Ok, Is Garma suited up and ready to jump? Because jumping from this decoy Gaw to his isn't a good plan unless we're sure he can get away. At this point, making it to ground is probably the best option: AA Tanks aren't as big a threat to MS as missile-armed planes.

Where are the Squad? Get a sitrep on them, see who can disengage to cover Garma if he jumps.

Doable, if a little difficult. You think you could probably manage it.

They are WAAAAY ahead of you. You can already see parachutes fluttering out behind you.

You quickly make the jump, using your backpack thrusters (which complain at your heavy use.) check your angle of approach and you just manage to make it aboard.

You see the other Gaw spiral down towards the ground.
The remaining Heavy fighters are currently disengaging.

"It looks like we've managed to see them off... Hopefully the ejecting crew will be okay."

After about five minutes the forces return, it looks like 8 or so Dopps caught the chop, your forces seem to have fared better. Jolyne reports 4 kills, and even Shiro's managed get his first set of kills with two Saberfish. Though from the looks of his suit and Dodai, they didn't go easily.

You all fly in a close formation, with the Dopps that need repair and rearmament being cycled through the Gaw's parasite bays.

You keep a careful watch as this happens, but luckily it seems that no more attacks are forthcoming.

Garma addresses you all over the short range comms.

"I thank all of you brave gentlemen, for weathering that storm. I sincerely hope that our comrades in the other Gaw have all survived, and if they are captured by enemy forces that the Federation enemy observe the laws of war."

In Garma's defense, a spur of the moment decision to head to New York with his new girlfriend should actually have made it harder for the Feddies to find us; the trip wasn't being announced until a day or two before at most and so they wouldn't have had much time to prepare.

Which means that there's got to be a mole, and that it's probably relatively close to him. We should definitely talk to him about that, and about the need for Zeon to start doing the things I mentioned in the previous thread. "To be fair, I WAS beginning to suspect. I mean the first time in months that we get a major air incusion into central USA and it just HAPPENS to happen to the flight carrying Garma Zabi?"

    Incognito nods.

"Yeah, they're not being very subtle about it are they? I've know for about a months now that we had a leak somewhere fairly high up in the command, and with all of the double blinds and sealed orders going on with this OP, I've got a name. From the looks of things, at the very least Captain Kilroy is our man. A more detailed look at his Side 6 bank account largely confirmed this. Problem is, I can trace his whereabouts well enough to realise that we've got at least one other security leak here, and that's what we need to find out from Captain Kilroy."

"Which is of course going to be problematic, as it was Captain Kilroy and his Gaw that wen't down this afternoon."

"You see my dilemma. David, I need you help, I want you're unit to escort me and group of handpicked specialists, back to where the Gaw went down, track down the federation forces, and recapture Captain Kilroy. I suppose we could also free all of the Zeon POW's whilst were at it too."

"Wont that mean having to leave Garma unattended?"

"Hopefully, we can end this mission before the end of the week and Garma can be alloted a replacement guard." Incognito supplies.

Off the top of my head:

Instead of the Jormagund being tested at Loum, the 603rd test out the LOKI Minovsky Particle Emitter, which is part of Operation Elephant instead.
This is a big change as it results in Strauss being your CO, as opposed to being Shin Matsunaga's wingman.

Beam weapon research time has been reduced by about 3 weeks.

The 63rd supply depot was only badly damaged, not destroyed by the Sermovente Team in Arizona.

Gabriel Zola from AoZ was in the 67th depot

Garma has used his Zaku in (mock) combat on earth, and is more likely to use it over the Dopp.

    Largely pacified southern USA.

Certain models and refits, such as the Dom Prototype and the F2 pack have arrived about a month early.

What we should do would be try upping our inteligence/Spy network, And destroy those GM factories before a major amount of GMs are produced, Doing that will probably drive the Feddies to the negotiations table...

We know the Feddies are going to try to rush our positions at some point. We need to decide which ones are worth defending and use those sites to grind down the Federation's numbers.

In a purely defensive situation we can set up networks of cameras and sensors using hardlines to transmit data back to our main firing positions. From there we can accurately and methodically hit advancing Federation forces with high calibur artillery. The Hilda is perfect for this. By itself it's restricted to a weapons range of 20km because that's a far as optical tracking is good for with atmospheric haze and Minovski particles. If she were recieving targeting data from a local network her gun would have an effective indirect firing range of +60 km.

A handfull of 300mm shells hitting a Big Tray while it's on the move would cause the Feddies some severe problems. If we remove their land battleships their Command and control will start to fall appart. Guntanks and GM's would be the next priority after the battleships and then onto the the tank squadrons.

While all of this is happening Squads of MS could busy themselves with wiping away whole formations of enemy tanks or distracted the GM's long enough to take them out fo the fight.

We can do this! We can beat the Federation! SIEG ZEON!

Does that mean Transformable MS/MA research have been advanced? I know it is still years ahead, with GP-00 being built in like 0083 and even then being ineffective and clumsy, But still.

After all, It does have a small transformation system, Making it the very first TRUE transforming Massproduced unit. TAKE THAT TITANS!

I think you guys are relying on the idea of Hidolfr-spam a little too much. Tigers alone didn't win Germany the war, and along the same lines I don't think expensive artillery should be the frontline standard. I think we should (should we gain enough influence) upgrade existing Zaku II to this proposed model (from the Gundam series that doesn't exist).

Yeah, the real point is just to continue the slow process of getting Zeon to put a bit more effort into developing beam weaponry. And the Hildolfr would be a natural platform simply because the increased size and power plant would make designing a beam weapon that you can mount on it easier than designing MS-scale beam weapons.

We're proposing the Hildolfr solution because, compared to Zeon's usual hard-on for ridiclous super-units, it's actually pretty reasonable.

Plus, it helps to cement the validity our combined-arms tactics, which will likely help us do more with less resources, as opposed to mindless LOLZAKUSPAM

Yes, Hildolfr is probably one of the few Zeon units that makes sense to massproduce... So it obviously isn´t.

Also, It seems we have already started changing Zeons fighting way into something more balances already. That said, Today was not a good day for the Hildolfr.

But what did you expect? It was a tank... in a Cargo Plane... In Air... Against airplanes...

On that note, what is our theoretical optimum force for Zeon? I'm personally leaning towards Dom Funf or Rick Dom as the MS of choice, with Hildolfr as our ground-based MA. Gelgoogs would be wonderful, but I'm not sure there's any way we can push that suit's development up enough to get them mass-produced before the end.

Well, yeah. I never said it was useless today - of course it can't do anything in that situation.

OTOH, our use of the thing before now has probably prompted some higher-ups into looking at mass-produucing the thing. So it's not all bad.
Better the resources get spent on useful, effective MA like the Hildolfr than crap like Zakrellos or Adzams. Ugh.

Now if somebody ever decided to remake Zeta Gundam, and have some faction that needs to do something with the old Zaku frames to make them useful in combat again, those could be fun.

But nobody ever tried to remake Zeta Gundam, and they certainly didn't try to do it with some half-assed genetic engineering plot proposed by a guy whose voice sounded kind of like Char's.

Our testing of the Proto-Dom will probably kick that up by a few weeks.

We've already accelerated Beam development by 3 or so weeks, and as the feddies start twigging onto stuff that we can capture, we could potentially make the time needed drop drastically.

Combined ground forces of Dom tropen/Funfs with Xamels providing fire support would probably be the easiest to produce, initially at least.
Combined Zaku/Gouf units with Hildolfrs would be similarly useful, although nowhere near as mobile.

This all falls apart in space, though. Up there, Rick Doms and Gelgoogs. If we can delay a retreat into space long enough to pump out craploads of Gelgoogs, the Federation advance would likely stall.

Im leaning to the Funf. Adaptability is great bonus for a massproduced unit.
On the other hand, by the time we can use it we will most likely be back in space... Hard choice really.

Our other problem is pilots, though.

Having more and better suits is only part of it; we also need to actually be able to properly train the rookies instead of just desperately throwing them straight onto the battlefield like Zeon was doing towards the end.

    Hence my consolidation plan.

The Xamel? I love the Xamel, But somethong about it just tells me it not a Space unit, Probably because normally anchors itself into the ground when firing that gun... and without any Ground the massive recoil would probably cause it to spin out of control.

So as cool as the Xamel is, It is pretty much something that only would work on the ground in my eyes.

But if it would work, The we have found ourselves our Long Range support unit for space battles.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/08/10(Fri)22:32 No.7498627
    >>7498579
Other thing with the Xamel might be replacing one of those crappy arms with something like Zol's Triple Gatling, so that it isn't quite so utterly fucked if anything gets close to it.

And, I suppose, reusing the Hildolfr's main guns if that isn't a serious downgrade; the more interchangeability, the better.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 01/08/10(Fri)22:33 No.7498640
    >>7498613
Hence why the space variant uses a heavy particle beam instead. Any recoil is presumably being directed straight back, and can be absorbed without sending the unit into a spin.
    >> Voleron 01/08/10(Fri)22:37 No.7498670
    >>7498613
Mega Particle Cannon solves that - beam weapons don't recoil so much.

Yeah, the UMP will be big.

So I guess what we're going for then is Hildolfr/Zaku to start, phasing out the Zakus for the Dom Funf (although that idea might end up becoming the standard Dom if we get lucky) and replacing some of the Hildolfrs with Xamels as each successor unit gets developed.

In space, Rick Doms and Particle Beam Rick Xamels.

The Gelgoog line would then be the next thing to come in, presumably incorporating the enhancements we captured from the Feddies too late to add to the Dom line.

    Sounds about right.

The main challenge is in getting all this done as part of a coherent, organized long-term plan, as opposed to the sort of chaotic mish-mash of development that was/is currently happening.
Plus, the personnel issue is still a glaring problem - hax suits are useless if they have untrained conscripts piloting them.

Hmmm, The real problem is where the funds would come from...

If they would be from The Flanagan Institute it would be a jackpot, Since it would mean the Delay of the Psycommu system, Meaning the Elmeth gets delayed.

That boils down to Lalah never fighting against Amuro, and being unable to shield Char...Wait...

On one hand, Lalah never dies, and therefore Char loses his motivation for Char´s Counterattack.
Since Char dies, the Zabi Family will be safe...

BUT, Amuro will probably go around unopposed,Quite possibly still managing to win the war, The Psycommu system will probably not make it into the Zeta Gundam... Meaning no waveridercrash...

Problem is, we don't have the authority to make sweeping administrative changes. This is one of the reasons we're trying to influence Garma and keep his ass alive - if we can suggest policy to him, and have him respect us enough that he takes our suggestions seriously, then we've got a good chance at indirectly overhauling the Zeon training/recruitment system.

It has a bit more risk, but it's a quicker option than dragging ourselves to a rank that can order such things directly.

For starters, get some money and personnel simply by not having to devote everything to replacing all of the gear lost in high-intensity combat. Decreasing some of the crazy prototyping would also be good; for example, is there any reason why any money should be wasted on the Gyan (to name just one crazy project)? For that matter, Gihren has to have been diverting a crapton of money and resources for the Colony Laser, something more likely to be noticed if Zeon has a pressing reason to be shifting money into things that can actually help them win the war.

More competent training for the recruits will also help. Unfortunately, I don't know how we're going to get much anti-MS training implemented before the Gundam shows up and Zeon is forced to acknowledge that Feddie MS are a genuine concern. The bigger thing is just going to be having enough time to train them; part of why Zeon was throwing raw recruits into battle in Gelgoogs they couldn't pilot was because they were literally having to throw everything they could scrape up at the Feddies to avoid defeat. Better planning now can buy us time to avoid that scenario.

Yeah. But on the other hand, there are simply a lot more options available if Garma survives. His biting it pretty much seals Zeon's fate by putting Gihren in power and focusing all of Zeon's ground forces on dealing with White Base, at the expense of everything else.

On the other hand, he lives and we've thoroughly gone off the canon rails.

And I'd say there's also a decent chance that Garma tries to sneak into this even without our involvement; it's the sort of thing that would appeal to him, mainly because he has no idea what this sort of operation is actually like.
