Mostly a service discussion, with plot post later wrapping up session 4.
First of all, mechanics questions asked last thread.

>>30460030
>How would a soak charm work anyway? Would it reduce all damage by 1, forcing people to use damage-boosting charms to hurt us? Would it provide a dice penalty on attacks? Would our rating in Zenith have any impact?

It would either decrease or negate damage (the damage negator would essentially be a perfect defense). Or a dice penalty on attacks is also possible
Ability scores are treated mostly as prerequisites, because I'm... not really a fan of stuff that gives (add your score to your roll) bonuses on principle. They scale fast.
Which is why Solar Hero Style is +3 and not +[dawn].

Having a higher ability score gives access to more powerful charms. Simple score-adders, enhancers and such (like the aforementioned Solar Hero Style), that just make you better but don't give you special abilities that vastly exceed your boundaries, are skill 2-3.
Powers that have a large impact or allow you to do really outlandish stuff, or in a really advantageous way, are skill 4-5.

Ten Ox Meditation is around the upper limit of what a charm in an ability at 2 can do: it's vastly useful and greatly increases your power, but increases damage only for one attack, and has limits in time and essence cost.
A permanent, no-essence-cost version, with a prerequisite of ability at 4 or 5 and a prerequisite of having ten ox meditation itself, would be legit.
Alternatively, a version that enhances only the feats of strength (no extra damage), but for a single feat puts no upper limit to strength (can lift or break ANYTHING) would be 5 because it's really outlandish.

For soak, a -1 damage on one attack would be Zenith 2. A -1 damage on ALL attacks (only 2-damage attacks get through) would have a prerequisite of this first charm, and Zenith 5, for example.
A perfect defense would be Zenith 4.
>>
Also, all comparisons of my system with Qwixalted are inappropriate: I'm not really basing myself on it. I'm basing myself on the original game and vastly simplifying it. The similarity to Qwixalted is merely a case of convergent evolution. I have nothing against Qwixalted, but don't look to it for a reference. :D

Does the new character sheet image look okay, or was it better the way it was before?
>>
Swallow the Sun and such essence-concealings would definitely be Night-only the same way Banish the Darkness is Zenith-only: basically a charmification of the innate caste power.
I DEFINITELY approve of caste niche protection, yes.

And I am definitely AGAINST paranoia combat. Like I said last thread (I think), in my Creation combat between Exalted is fairly low lethality. It might be easy to get DEFEATED, but it's a lot harder to get KILLED, due to a combination of "Exalted are sturdy as hell" and "Exalted are lucky action movie heroes who are ALWAYS alive when they fall down a cliff and their body is never found".

This of course doesn't make Exalted unkillable, it just means that killing an Exalted is never done s an afterthought, an accident, or as part of a single shot, megacombo or alpha strike of some kind. You ALWAYS need to put in serious, prolonged effort to kill one.

Yes, this includes the Dragon-Blooded. In general, my Dragon-Blooded are a lot closer to celestial level of power (thought they are still definitely below it).

Also, you will never meet a "Generic Faceless Dragon-Blooded" or a mass of them, nondescript. Dragon-Blooded are all Exalted and are all Heroes. Each one of them puts up a fight.

I also have a rather fond spot for heroic mortals. For heroic mortals, having awakened essence or thaumaturgy (or both) will not be particularly unusual. They're Heroes as well.
>>
>>30466059
I think it looks good.

>>30466032
In that case, I guess the best thing we qualify for would be a Perfect Soak?
>>
>>30466059
Imho both are fine. I liked the previous one for easier visibility, but this is more artsy.

I can make the backdrop lighter for higher contrast.
>>
>>30466426
That looks better.
>>
About dice mechanics, I'm thinking of just going simple. "Average of first three rolls regardless of what they voted, round up if fractional" on a d10.

If there are any questions, ask away. I'll start writing the closing post for Session 4 now.
>>
>>30466426
You lose some of the clarity and crispness on the second that you have in the first. Maybe just lighten the background with altering the text?

That's my opinion, anyways.
>>
>>30466426
That's a nice balance of pretty and readability.
>>
>>30466479
I would personally like it to be a dice pool, where you consider the first X rolls. But that's just me.
>>
>>30466535
...that's clever, and kind of a neat nod to storyteller.

Especially when it means sudden death for oh shit 1d10 "i m not gud at computer," moments.
>>
>>30466479
Average excludes crits, so what you end up with is a very middle of the road story. The standard is highest of first 3 or 5 with crit overrides, but I've always liked the idea of dice pools
>>
>>30466535
Would be clever to consider first X rolls up to a maximum of (attribute + ability) dice, but that would mean that Maka would be stronger when lots of people are posting and weaker when people are asleep.

...Which is rather unique, but I'm not entirely sure it would be a bad idea in and of itself, thinking about it.

Opinions?
>>
>>30466581
Dice pools lead to bad things with /tg/'s dice, friend.
>>
>>30466612
I think it's neat. You were just going on about how people bitch out when someone rolls "well," and everyone piles on the bandwagon.

Now they've gotta put their money where their mouth is and roll too!

Should be fun.
>>
>>30466612
Could go for that.
>>
>>30466426
I like it.
>>
>>30466612
It seems interesting, but depending on crit rules, more dice tend to screw us over. I think (attribute+ability)/2 with a minimum of 3 or so could do
>>
>>30466612
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>30466612
Give it a shot and we'll see how it shakes out.

You spend the rest of the dinner (which is delicious, by the way: chicken marinated in honey, rolls of fried shrimp and vegetables, and veal steak in blackberry sauce) talking about...mostly yourselves, in a girls-talk kind of way.

Irene is clearly unused to talking about herself, or even effectively keep up small talk. You have to admit that, even though she is energetic and cheerful, her small talk is terrible and boring when not talking about her chosen interests (i.e. magitek). Most of the time is spent not really knowing what to say, and you have to dangle conversation hooks in front of her to get her to bite.

It's not shyness, of course. Irene seems one of the least shy people you've ever met. It's just that she seems to not really know how people normally interact outside of work, duties, or very niche hobbies or interests.

In a way, though, you're enjoying this, not so much for the contents of the conversation but rather for, well, Irene herself. In her own clumsy way, she's a treat to have around.

One thing you do notice with mild displeasure as the dinner draws to a close is that Exaltation seems to have vastly increased your alcohol tolerance. You got only a very light buzz from the (quite strong) wine that was served to you, and Irene has personally downed, glass by glass, one of those three bottles in its entirety, and three quarters of the second one.

You guess it's a good thing if it also mirrors an improved resistance from poisons and toxins, at least.

(cont.)
>>
i'll admit, I prefer the Solars to be substantially stronger than the dragonblooded for setting reasons and wild hunt mechanics. Though I have expirimented with thinblooded to provide the faceless mooks.

As the dinner ends and you head back to the castle (with Irene paying the bill, and practically coercing you into just letting her do. Which... wasn't really an option on the first place, as, technically, you have little more than pocket change with you and no source of income), you walk through the city in silence. It's late at night, and after the chaos of the last days people stay at hope after the sun goes down. It's like the city is all for the two of you.

Neither of you talks during the way back home. The moment is great, and it would feel like ruining it.

You take your sweet time and a few detours, enjoying the view. The cloudless night sky shines its many lights down on you.

As you head back to your respective rooms (Irene's having been already repaired, or at least patched up from the battle damage), you come across the maid, hiding behind a corner. She gives you a thumbs up and a sharp look from the shadows before disappearing.

Once you're at the spot in the corridor where you are supposed to split up, as you're in front of Irene's royal bedroom while yours is in the guest's section of the castle, you both hesitate a moment.

"...Would you spend the night with me?" She offers.

>Yes
>No
>>
>>30467046
>>Yes
>>
>>30467046
...I didn't want this to go romantic, but we'll just offend her if we say 'no.' Bang her senseless.
>>
>>30467046
>Yes
>>
>>30467046
> yes
>>
>>30467046
Hmm, if she's drunk,
>No
If she's sober, then
>Yes
>>
>>30467272
Get a load of this asshole.

>>30467046
>Y
>>
You don't say anything. All you do is take her hand and nod.

There is no blaming the wine. For all you drank, you still feel barely a buzz, and you have no reason o suspect it is any different for her.

Together, you walk into her room. The patches on the walls are still evident, differently-colored bricks sticking out like a sore thumb, but the furniture is back to its place, minus some signs of damage.

The room is dark, and neither of you bothers with lamps or lanterns. Before your eyes adjust to the darkness you have a moment of confusion, which she exploits, gently pushing you on the large canopy bed, where you land with a soft sound.

She quickly follows, landing next to you. Caught up in the heat of the moment, and not wanting to be undone, your hands struggle for a moment with the tight belt and buttons of her uniform, as you hear the dull thud of her hat landing in a corner of the room.

However, it takes you more than a moment, and while you do so Irene, exploiting her home advantage, presses on, delicately reaching your body under the fluffy, frilly mass of your evening dress, and then freeing you of it.

Before, her skin was cold and hard as marble. Now, it retains its firmness, but the warmth is higher, equal to your own, and you barely feel its touch.

You pull the thick, warm blankets over the two of you, and enjoy spending the night together.

[end session 4]

Probably next session tomorrow.
>>
>>30467046
We still gotta deal with Amata. She's probably been waiting for us all day long when we were supposed to go see her.

...

>Yes.
>>
>>30467500
aww yee, gotta get dat royal pooty pang.
>>
>>30467500
Her mom's gonna get super jealous now. I like it.
Thanks for the session.

I kind of want to start playing Exalted now.
>>
>>30467638
We already got some.

From her mom.

>We got some 'splaining to do tomorrow.
>We were supposed to be Queen Amata's mortal lover, an exiled noble rescued from a desperate situation.
>Now we're an exalt, and banging her daughter too.

>>30467718
You should. It's a fucking sweet game. Here's the General:

I don't know that this is a bad thing.

That just means we're Pattern Spiders.
>>
>>30467964
Honestly, people will probably just samefag until there are enough rolls if there genuinely aren't enough players on.

I wouldn't mind doing THAT Solar Hero Style.
>>
>>30467977
yep, if they're the only one rolling and you need 5 rolls, they'll roll all 5 without saying a thing
>>
Anyone have any ideas for how we should train for a soak charm? Most of mine involve broken bones and gratuitous bruising.

>>30469401

>>30469565
actually, sex between a Solar and a family of Terrestrials is probably enough to beat us all up a bit. Get Irene's mom and brother in on it, for 'training purposes'
>>
I'm amazed to see this thread still around. :D

>>30467977
I haven't mentioned this yet, but I always assume that people just post one vote and just roll once per person per action.

You know, honor system and such.

Please do that.

If you want Maka to be more effective with her actions, drag more people to read Exalted Quest :D

Also, new thread soon. (I know that americans are asleep right now, but this is the time it's most comfortable for me to start.)
