[Natural Healing: 5/5 HP]

Sunlight filtering through heavy curtains and the soft buzzing distant noise of the castle servants beginning their working day, bit by bit, wakes you up from your restful sleep.
You sit up from the tangled blankets of Irene's large canopy bed and stretch and yawn yourself awake.
You'll have to add this to the list of experiences and sensations that Exaltation has radically changed, you think to yourself as you playfully prod the still-asleep princess' cheek.
And not just because normally, to a mortal, someone like Irene would be considered way out of any possible league, barring amazing amounts of luck.
As you peel the blankets away from her, you consider that she really does look like a marble statue, masterfully sculpted according to a canon of idealized physical perfection in beauty and athleticism alike.
On top of that, it took a while to adapt to the use of vastly increased strength and endurance. At first you thought Irene was being way too rough to you, especially considering that it made a stark contrast with her rather gentle personality.

You dismount from the bed and pull the curtains open flooding the room with light. Ireme loudly complains.
As you get dressed, you idly wonder if the damage to the bed's wooden frame was caused during the battle two days ago, or if you two should feel guilty about it.

Right now we just kind of need to establish ourselves in this city and kingdom - and we can start by rekindling our acquaintance with the Queen, who apparently knew us before.

You get dressed and have a bit of breakfast in the room together with Irene.

The maid keeps shooting you really proud yet silent looks. She seems to really appreciate the situation. And Irene seems blissfully unaware of the subtext.

After eating a bite and having a brief bath, you go and meet Amata, as Irene gives you a warm goodbye and gets back to her defensive works in the castle's fortifications.

Amata is well on her way back to full health, seems. She still has an arm and a leg in casts, wearing simple and comfortable indoor clothes as she sits in her office (the throne room is still wrecked, yes. It'll be a while.)

It's a comparatively small yet tall-roofed chamber whose walls are stacked with filled book-cases, most of which seems to be occupied by binders of old paperwork and governmental archives. Servants and maids sometimes pass by, entering and leaving the room silently and without bothering to knock, carrying or leaving with letters and documents.

As she sees you entering, Amata sets aside her quill pen and inkwell (she was halfway through writing an official-looking letter) and leans back into her chair. "...Maka, what the heck did you do?" She sighs, exasperated, massaging her eyes with ink-stained fingertips.

"...I'm sorry."

"You should be." She slowly brings her head on the desk with a dull *thud*.
"I thought I didn't have to explain this but... apparently I do. So let me be super clear. The people of Tianna are scared. They're being targeted by supernaturally powerful enemies with access to vast resources and powers specifically geared towards spreading terror and death. They want to feel safe. They do not want to see someone famously associated to legends about demons and monsters of infinite cruelty walking around town and openly displaying their powers."

"...It won't happen again."

"You know, it doesn't matter anymore." She slumps back. "It's too late to keep your powers hidden. By now you're the talk all over town. Everyone knows about you. They mostly know wrong things, of course, and there are Immaculate preachers in town saying that I'm giving asylum to a devil that will destroy my kingdom from within and probably then devour their firstborn children or something."

"I... see. But about those Abyssals, there's-"

She slams her fist on the desk. "No changing the subject, Maka. If you want to stay here, we'll have to prove to my citizens that you are under my control. That's what the people want to know. They want a stable kingdom, safe from all outside AND inside threats."

"Now." She takes a very deep breath and calms down. "I'd like to hear any ideas you might have, before i try and find a solution myself."

"...go on..." She interrupts you, evidently not liking where this is going.

"And what is stopping you from turning this person into a fine paste?" She asks you back.

"...You know I wouldn't do that."

"I know, but do they? Or will they just see through the trick?"

You both silently think about it for a few seconds.

"Samiel." She nods to herself.

"Samiel?" You echo her.

"He's Exalted, The people will feel safer if they see you with him. You'll have to be on your best behavior, of course. At all times." She relaxes a bit. "But it should work. Not a bad idea. Bit simple, maybe. But sometimes simple ideas work best."

"Alright."

"And you'll wear a maid uniform."

You do a double-take.

"As punishment." She grins.

"...Now you're just bullying me." You whimper.

"Nonesense. If I were bullying you I'd include a sign slung around your neck saying "BLOODY STUPID", and probably include a pet's collar as well." She replies. "Now, unless you have a better idea, get to it before I change my mind about the sign and collar and, mhh. I could add a chain, or..."

You decide to accept, quickly, fast, before Amata comes up with some more extravagant punishment, and, with her blessing, return to you room.

After a breather, you go and look for that short maid (Irene called her Millian yesterday), and explain your circumstances to her.

"I'll go look for a uniform your size, assuming that one exists." She says, inviting you to wait in the room. "And I'll go and explain this to prince Samiel too. We had to basically tie him to his bed to get him to rest his wounds, but he's feeling a lot better today. We can probably release him now."

She return, accompanied by other three maids, a few minutes later, carrying a uniform for you and some tailor's tools. And good thing she did, because she was right: your maid dress manages to be a bit tight in a few points here and there.

Over a couple of hours, they flawlessly and expertly adjust it for you.

After you give it a few spins, Samiel arrives.

"...What did my mother set you up for?" He wonders, looking at your new set of clothes. "I swear to heaven, sometimes I can't understand her."

You can't help but smile.

"I guess we have work to do, in any case." He seems to realize that he's staring a bit too much, and slightly averts his eyes.
"I was talking with Irene about the smashed city walls, and we had an idea. Rebuilding them properly would take months just for baking the bricks required, but we need to plug the hole right now. We can't afford to keep such a large garrison there." He explains.

"So how do we fix it?"

"There's a stone quarry not too distant from the city walls. With you, me, Irene, and a decent crew of specialists, we could pull some large slabs of rock and carry them back to Tianna." Samiel points out

"...Amata mostly wanted me to work inside town. You know, to show people that I'm not a baby-eating monster and that I'm your ally and so on. With this plan, I'd be seen by a lot less people. Make a smaller impact." You voice your doubts.

"Mhh. True." He admits. "But it would also quickly fix a very large hole in our defenses."

"By what?" You wonder back at him, as you both leave the room.

"That you're going through with this." He explains. "You're Exalted now. Are you just doing this because you feel indebted to Amata? For giving you asylum and shelter, both back when you were mortal and now?"

Pfffffffffffft.

This fuckin' guy. I look forward to maintaining a cordial but textual relationship.
>>
>>30476412
If I am not a baby eating monstrosity what would be the point of staying if said stay upsets Amata and destabilizes her city?

Especially now that it is under immediate perilous threat of Abyssal nefarious plans.

True there is some feeling of debt but we both know that i could have easily walked away once the fighting was done.
Then of course there is the thrust between the two of us since I already trusted Amata to come here in the first place and she trusted me not to bring or make a mess, well not this kin of mess anyway.
As for other motivations, personal and such thrust had to come built upon previous feelings between the two of us.
But mostly i think it is about doing the right thing. I was here and helped you defend against the Abyssal attack. Where i not here they may have succeeded, but now that they have not they will come with a vengeance, and I doubt they will be so restrained a second time.
Thus why I like your use of my abilities.

As for the public display of control, please be polite. I want this to work.

Now on to the practical part of things, are you sure we want to just build up the breach in the wall? We could hide a gun or a trap there, should they come again from the same direction.

You pocket the letter. "Enjoying the view?" You joke at Samiel, who has been intently looking at you the whole time.

He makes a strange, surprised noise and turns away immediately.

You giggle. "It's okay, I don't mind." You say. But, at this point, he's too ashamed to react right away.

You meet up with Irene, back in armor, and a crew of specialized stonecutters by the city gates not long after.

She doesn't react much upon seeing you again, certainly not as Samiel probably would have. She's friendlier than before, but she was still pretty friendly since the first time you met her. >>
>>30476842
Airships are a thing, and have been for a while. A Deathlord would have ample resources to construct one, seeing as how all you need to make soulsteel is people to turn into it. Not as rare as the other MMs.
>>
>>30476866
And that would mean Haslanti interest in Tianna because why the fuck did their airship flew here? And more importantly can they recover it.

Great, now if we pick the north Amata needs to balance between the Haslanti and the Realm.

I'm in favor of Eastern woodland.
>>
>>30476866
Probably not. Haslanti airships use gas bags, meaning a hull too heavy prevents it from floating and doing something like ramming a city wall would probably rupture it, if they even built up enough speed to crash through. A normal Haslanti airship is a wood-framed zeppelin powered by whale oil. Their dreadnaught was probably one if generally first age design specifications.

(Fairly small margin on this vote, but we're apparently in the west!)

After a couple of our of walking, you reach the foot of the mountainous region that lies in the centre of this large island, moving along a dirt road traced through the hills and valleys and farmland villages of the countryside.

"...Something's weird." Samiel breaks the flow of idle conversation as you approach the rocky, harsh hillslopes that are your destination.

"What is?" Irene wonders, alarmed. Apparently she hasn't noticed anything.

"This is the third deserted village we see." He points at a small hamlet on a nearby hilltop, fields of wheat on what flatland they could wrestle from the jagged terrain, and lines of terraced vineyard where they couldn't.

"People have been moving to Tianna from the countryside. Maybe they were scared when the abyssal airship passed over them." Irene wonders.

"We're north of Tianna. The airship arrived from the south." He points out.

"...Are there any dangers on this island?" You ask. Since you have been Amata's guest you never ventured beyond the city much.

"Southern side of the island is civilized." He explains. "North has trouble."

"Trouble?" you ask.

"Mountains and forests and marshes, and past the coast a constellation of small islands and treacherous seas. Pirate havens and hideouts, tribes of savages and barbarians, sea monsters, unruly gods. Things like that."

"Business as usual." You note. "Think some of that trouble came down to pay us visit?"

As you walk above and past a hilltop, you reach the quarry, half-hidden behind it. The site of the operation is littered with corpses and signs of struggle, both fairly fresh.

"Maybe." He replies.

We're not exactly a great investigator, but we are a fantastic bodyguard.

We should also discuss some type of training to up our endurance/soak. We really need to make sure we develop some type of soaking charm while our powers are still in flux.
>>
>>30477308
Well its not impossible. You use a very thing soul steel foil. And then have your crafter make it one solid piece that has more form retention resistance than the wall.

Doable, and less costly than a First age airship.

Flyers however are another thing. If we could make or get some fliers and mount Essence cannons on them we could have a viable air defense against the airship. They would need however two crew and probably a revolver or belt style loading mechanism. or its going to be slow going. And i doubt a city with less than a dozen exalts has that many essence to spend.

However if we stay here and the location is going to be the western islands i think that going Haslanti with a good navy that has excellent logistics and some carriers and submarines for force multipliers would be a good mirror to Lookshy who went army, and guerrilla to defend against Realm Legions.
Heh, Already making plans for when we become a serious local power.

Our problem sadly is not Realm Legions but the freaking Abyssals with a soulsteel airship and the Wyld, if we go west or east

DBs have a chance to survive, but a caravan of mortals not so much, considering the troubles.

We've already gone West.

I think we should get to work beseeching the god of this island, in the name of the Sun, to help us round up an army of spirits so we can tell the Abyssals to go fuck themselves. As a Zenith with Social 3 and Zenith 4, we're quite literally miraculous when it comes to prayer rolls. The local gods would quite literally have no choice but to at least listen to us, and once we have that, it's only a matter of being sufficiently convincing.
>>
I like you guys talking theories and conjectures, but i have to come out and say that the airship the Abyssals had was very clearly magitek. It had a thick armor, essence engines, and no gas balloon or anything else that could sustain it apart for magic. Definitely not Haslanti. I apologize if I didn't explain it properly.
>>
>>30477472
I like this. I mean Gods should dislike the general direction of Abyssals, and should as a rule oppose them on principle at every turn since the Abyssals are out to destroy creation and everything in it.
>>
>>30477493
Nah, it's fine. I was totally aware of that - people just like to jump to Haslanti theories when it comes to the crazy-secretive airship folk.
>>
>>30477459
I like this. It allows us to protect and help the mortals and even socialize a bit to dispel their fears. We have our social rating high enough to manage that at least. Start our own rumors about us to counteract the ones put forth by the immaculate preachers.
>>
>>30477495
Exactly. We can further leverage using the prayer of the people of Tianna, and add a little element of 'and if you don't help us, I'm going to kick your ass.' If we handle it right, we should be able to get most of the major gods of the island on our side, along with the others in their respective courts.

Dealing with gods and prayer, leading mortals, and being tough as fuck are basically the cornerstones of being Zenith.

I am thinking medium to long after we fix the hole in the wall and get our fifth charm. Right now we got people to protect.
After that we can go and court the various gods to amass a force large enough to cockblock a deathlords forces with a soulsteel magitek airship, and magitek jumpjets skeletons.
>>
>>30477592
Oh, long-term, for sure. Sorry. I already voted on my choice and went off on tangents about future plans.
>>
>>30477645
Going off on future plans, socially should we try to lead people towards a trade infrastructure?

there may be pirates but if we remove them somewhat we could foster archipelago trade and could have served as a stop over from the shout to the north bypassing the realm, but the only relevant thing in the south is An Teng. And that is a Satrapy.

Still we could have trade between An Teng with the Haslanti via our island, for all those people not so hung over by the imaculate stuff. And if we manage to deal with our pirates in the west be that by recruiting them or by fighting them we should have the means to do the same with the southern ones, dispelling the reason An Tang is a Satrapy in the first place.
>>
>>30477741
>but the only relevant thing in the south is An Teng
Most of Creation is unmapped. There are dozens, hundreds, of even thousands of countries unmapped, unfluffed, and unnamed in the MASSIVE empty spaces between the borders of other nations. I'm sure there are dozens of other island nations in the near West alone that we can trade with, and thus far, we don't know the state of Tianna's economy one way or the other.

And the distance between us and Haslant or us an An Teng is probably staggeringly huge. The Haslanti League is in the FAR North, and if we're a decent distance into the West, we're thousands of miles from An Teng.

So let's hold off on all those assumptions.

My list of priorities is:
>Keep the caravan and Amata's children safe.
>Solve this mystery.
>Get stone back to the city.
>Tell Amata that the Abyssals are leaving correspondence for us (DO NOT KEEP THIS SECRET, IT WILL END FRIENDSHIPS).
>Train up in a soak charm as our final character creation charm.
>Get gods on our side before the next Abyssal attack.
>>
>>30477802
As long as Russia. Or a bit more pending where we are in the archipelago. With something akin to galleons we could have trip done in two weeks, one month for a two way trip.

But since there is little presence in the Western Islands and those where my best option as far as my knowledge goes.

On the short term i however fully agree. We cannot afford to lose any DB or make the populous dislike us any more.
Another thing I would consider is to talk to a few of the more influential mortals in various neighborhoods and have a heart to heart with them. If we can paint ourselves into a good light and perhaps discredit the Immaculate preachers on the subject of our personal self, we would lessen the tension in the city and even cement loyalty to Amata while getting a infrastructure for prayer, through those influential people...
>>
>>30477893
>With something akin to galleons
Creation, barring certain factions like the Guild, is pre-Age-of-Sail. They use triremes and such.

>Another thing I would consider is to talk to a few of the more influential mortals in various neighborhoods and have a heart to heart with them.
This is a bad idea. People are already nervous about us. Pulling them into direct interaction would just make things worse for the scared little bunnies. Amata's got her fingers on the city's pulse - she'll tell us when it's a good time to make some personal appearances.

"...Go and check what happened, I'll cover the caravan." You tell Samiel and Irene. The two of them are immediately at it, rushing ahead into the quarry as you turn back to the three wagons carrying the stonemasons and their tools.

They're understandably distressed and confused, and look at you, the DBs and the corpse-filled quarry in shock.

"Everyone, calm down." You tell them, raising both arms to draw their attention. "The princes will examine the quarry and ascertain if it's safe and figure out exactly what happened! For now, wait patiently. I'll protect you."

An uncomfortable silence falls down on the caravan, with a lot of people gazing at you, but they have calmed down at least.

It takes ten minutes for Samiel to return. "Mostly barbarians. It seems they were squatting here. Put up some tents, some fireplaces. About fourty, a small tribe, probably an offshoot of one of the northern clans."

"What got them?" You ask. "Abyssals?"

"Nah. Not enough blood everywhere. Bodies are still there, besides. Abyssals usually recycle." He turns around to inspect the carnage once again. "But still pretty sure it was an Exalted."

"What made you think so?" You wonder.

"They didn't fight among themselves. And if it had been another tribe, there'd be dead with markings of both tribes. A large predator would have still been wounded, lost blood, left a trail into the woods. A REALLY large predator would have left deeper tracks. Plus..." And he holds up an old, rusted sword, probably some spoil of war or loot from a raid (since these barbarians don't look like they have the capabilities to smelt and work metal).

The blade is shattered near the point and along the cutting edge.

"Nearly all of their weapons are broken. They tried to hit something tough enough or armored enough to do this, and who took out all of them singlehandedly."

"...Irene?"

"Down there, checking tracks coming and going. What do we do?"

Considering where we are Galleons are not far off to imagine, if we drive towards trade and with Irenes technical mind behind it an a island outlook that admits a lack of manpower in general and more consideration towards ships and impressive range if you want anything done outside of the archipelago.

We might have to start with Carracks, but i doubt Irene would be satisfied even with Galleons if she gets a taste for it.

I just hope she does not go off on a tangent and makes magitech steam ships. Those would be a bitch and a half to maintain an fuel. Either through essence or with coal. That would e a irony. Getting vastly superior and expensive ships that we cannot use to the fullest because we don't have the infrastructure to fuel them.

It's actually pretty odd to assume it's an Exalt. There's probably 3-4 thousands of Exalted (Terrestrials included) in the whole Threshold and Creation is MASSIVE.

I thought the dragonblooded numbered in the millions.
>>
>>30478179
There's about 20,000 in all of Creation, most of them in Lookshy and the Realm, last I heard. They numbered in the millions in the First Age, but between the Usurpation, the Great Contagion, and the Balorian Crusade, their numbers... Slimmed.
>>
>>30478179
It's around 10,000 in the Age of Sorrows. It was millions in the First Age.
>>
>>30478179
Back in the First Age. There's still many thousands of them but not a million. And I specifically said Threshold, because most Dynasts tend to hang on the Blessed Isle (it's Russia-sized, let me remind you).

Though I seem to have forgotten about Lookshy, so disregard this number.
>>
>>30478167
>>30478179
Indeed my interpretation was that DBs numbered more than a few thousand. You get to break the thousand mark easily only with celestials, and DBs are supposed to be the foot soldiers. I would wager DBs are in the millions, especially with hereditary exaltation, and their drive to fuck like rabbits.

Actually, there are exactly 700 Celestials. There USED to be millions of DBs, but the events of the past thousand years have cut the entire population of Creation by significantly more than 90%, DBs included.
>>
>>30478202
No, they're called Ten Thousand Dragons because in old Oriental texts "Ten Thousand" is a way to say "A whole fucking lot". And they were called that whole way through their existence. There's not actually 10000 of them.
>>
>>30478233
Right, but in the Age of Sorrows, they still only number in the tens of thousands. 90% of everyone, dragonblooded included, died in the Great Contagion. That's not counting the people who died in the Balorian Crusade, the people who died due to loss of First Age infrastructure, the people who died due to Shogunate infighting, or the people who died during the Usurpation itself, when weapons of mass destruction were deployed frequently and casualties were phenomenal.

There were once millions of dragonblooded. There may yet be again. But in the Age of Sorrows, they number in the uncounted tens of thousands.

"...You watch things here."

"Good call." Samiel nods. "We'll start cutting up the stone. You go give a look around."

You nod and slap each other's shoulders as you walk past each other, him on the way to the stonemasons' wagons, you striding into the forest.

The trees are not terribly thick, but foilage is low and undergrowth is tall, and the hilly terrain the woods stretch over makes finding your footing quite hard.

Handing you a very short-skirted version of the palace's maid uniform might have been playful ribbing (or perversion) on Amata's part, but now you're grateful that you're not saddled with a long skirt or a cumbersome apron. You manage to make good time and press on into the woodland, searching for tracks, or some kind of trail.

You find none, and, after about half a hour of searching, you are about to give up, when a low, threatening voice echoes from the thick of the undergrowth.

"...Who are you anyway?"

"Just call me Talon. If you have any need to." He (you're very sure the voice is masculine) replies. You can feel the aggression almost leaping at you.

"I'm going to leave now." You state clearly, to avoid any misunderstanding.

"Good." Is his glacial reply.

"But I'd like to be able to meet you again sometime."

"Why?"

"Meeting people is what I do. If you're claiming the territory north of Tianna, you're a neighbor. We'll need to meet again some time."

He doesn't reply right away.

"...Talon?" You ask for confirmation.

"I heard you."

"And what do you say?" You insist.

"It's not a decision I can take on my own." He says, thoughtfully. "But if you really must insist... However, you will not come to us. NEVER cross this border. WE will come to you."

"How about tomorrow?"

"T-tomorrow?" You can detect that you've caught Talon off-guard. He probably wasn't expecting anything so soon.

"Tomorrow at sunset? I'll get everything ready. You can just walk through the main gates."

No reply.

"...Talon?"

"I HEARD YOU!" He screams back.

You leave him a few seconds.

"...Tomorrow at sunset. If anything goes wrong, you'll pay for it."

"Everything will be alright." You reassure him.

In the next bout of awkward silence, you turn around and return to the Quarry.

There, you can see Amata ripping and pulling out of the ground perfectly-formed slabs of stone with her bare hands, the glow of essence about her, channeled by her suit of armor. Samiel is helping the stonemasons roll them aside using cut-down logs as wheels, directing their work.

"Maka!" He immediately spots you emerging from the forest. "Was everything all right?"

You briefly explain to Irene and Samiel what just happened.

"...A rogue god?" Wonders Irene.

"Mom would have been informed by the city god. You know they're on good terms."

"Right, then some Exalted, possibly a Lunar Anath- er, a Lunar, or a Fair Folk."

"Could be either." They conclude.

"How about the stone?" You ask them.

"It's cut." Irene motions to the slabs of rock, rolled aside and ready to be carried.

They look frighteningly heavy, and should even push the limits of your Ten Ox Meditation power if you tried to carry them all at once.

Classy Chinese lady agrees.

Speaking of class, are western-styled clothes normal in Tianna or is it just your interpretation of the setting?
>>
>>30480111
It's mentioned that the royal physician wears a kimono, so I'm guessing at least a touch of Oriental. Irene's armor seems Western-ish, though.
>>
>>30480164
>Irene's armor seems Western-ish, though.
And her evening outfit. And maids' dresses. And the red dress Maka wore. And Flower's dress. And Amata's combat gear.
Sam is pretty hot-blooded animu.
>>
>>30480202
Yeah, but he's hot-blooded animu aping Western fashions.
>>
>>30480111

I assumed Tianna is majorly Western, with Eastern influences, especially when it comes to the healing arts. What I want to know is what Maka normally wears. She's from the South, so would she normally wear an Egyptian or Arabian style of dress?
>>
>>30480231
>What I want to know is what Maka normally wears.
I kinda had it in my head that she wore a sort of bandeau or belt-like top with a short-sleeved jacket (that ends at the middle of her waist) on over it, and a pair of tight runners shorts and some boots.
>>
>>30480231
There's also all kinds of African, Indian, and so forth fashions in the South depending on which part you're from. Personally, I like to picture her normal mode of dress as a long, simple, white toga-dress. Something easy to untuck and let fall to the ground, and of a thin enough cloth that it leaves very little to the imagination to begin with.

But, then, I'm a lecher.

Why were we on the run anyway? I'm thinking younger dragonblood sibling usurped us.

>>
>>30480377
We are. A QM post in the first thread said we're exiled royalty.

Ain't nothing wrong with a man in a skirt/kilt, especially in Creation, but why exactly do you think so?

>>30480387
Why Dragon-Blooded? Could've been a simple coup, Could be the next in line for the throne and our older sibling decided to kill up. Could've been a posse of God-Blooded usurping our kingdom.
>>
>>30480417
Which means we should be wearing pants dammit! Alas, look how far we've fallen. A maid get up! Oh what mother would say...ok, she'd tell us we look cute and tease us mercilessly, but still, the point is this is just wrong.
>>
>>30480387
>>30480410
All we know is that we're exiled. We could be exiled because of an usurpation, or because of a power struggle we lost, or because the country was conquered, or even because we abdicated. All that we know for sure is that we're exiled royalty, and here due to Amata's protection and hospitality.
>>
>>30480425
>but able to open on the front
A deep cut past cleavage and lacing going down?

>loosely-bound with a sash or something
Yeah, a sash of a belt would do nicely.
>>
>>30480426
>Why Dragon-Blooded?
because the justification our sibling used was might makes right. The look on her face when we show back up as an exalt would be priceless.
>>
>>30480445
Yeah, that works. I just have this image in my head of Maka turning around, untucking one tuck, and letting her whole dress just sort of slide off of her to the ground. And a thin enough fabric for it not to be too hot in the sun.

And for her nipples to show through even when they're soft because of her dark skin.
>>
>>30480446
There's more than one way how might makes right. Not all of them involve Exalted. They're supposed to be fairly rare.
>>
>>30480445
How many fetish tropes have we included in Maka's outfit thus far? Cleavage, open-front, sheer fabric...

>>
>>30480522
Well, we've never been a hobo. We were a princess for a long time, and then left our kingdom for whatever reason. Then Amata took us in, and we've probably been able to get by through her.
>>
>>30480546
There was this period between your second and third sentences.

Also, we couldn't have been in Tianna for long if we've never met Amata's children
>>
>>30480560
Agreed. A week, at most.

We could have been recently exiled, though.
>>
>>30480567
True, but you're forgetting the travel time in this setting. We were probably on the road for a minimum of a month, maximum of a year before getting to Tianna.
>>
>>30480567
There's also the issue of distances.
We're from the South and now we're somewhere in the West, possibly in the southern part of it so there's at all possible for us to know Tianna even exists.
And that means Lintha soon, fellow Exalt...
>>
>>30480641
>>30480657
True that. We would likely have been on a ship for quite a while, and I don't imagine we could pass as a man well enough to be above deck.
>>
>>30480657
Hmm, I hadn't thought of Lintha. This could be fun.
>>
>>30480676
...we probably just booked passage on a ship with a female crew if that was an issue, which I doubt it was.
>>
>>30480676

Certainly not with that rack.

Though I thought Storm Mothers were mostly active in the central and northern part of the direction. Might easily be wrong though.
>>
>>30480056
Stockings and pantyhose are both great. Stockings are clearly superior in most cases, though, yes.
>>
>>30480698
...what issue do you think I'm talking about? The Storm Mothers sink any ship with a woman above decks in the West. Woman sailors crossdress and pray to the gods that they pass as a dude.
>>
>>30480800
Then why can't they just stay below decks?
>>
>>30480821
Because they're sailors, they have stuff to do. Female passengers can move as long as Storm Mothers don't see them.
>>
>>30480821
They can. All I'm saying is that Maka would have had a very long trip without being able to get above decks. She's probably really enjoying no longer going stir crazy now that she's safe in Tianna.
>>

I wonder is she was invited by Amata or if she just tried a few places for asylum.

[Spent Essence x5]
[Essence: 0/5]

As you slowly lift the stack of rock slabs above your head, your muscles and bones make actual, audible cracking sounds under the immense strain. You can faintly ear, in the distance, the amazed comments (and more than a few bets) of the stonecutters that accompanied you.

With a final effort, you manage to load the entire stack on your back. Your skin and forehead blaze with the golden glow of your essence, but the mass of marble over your head conceals it almost entirely.

Shaking and trembling under the terrifying weight, you take one step.

Then another.

And then some more.

After what feels like an eternity of torture, you dare turn your neck and look behind yourself, and realize that you're made about ten meters.

...This is going to be a long day, isn't it?

There are really no words to describe the literally sisyphean task that you've taken on yourself.

Along the way, alone with your thoughts (which is, as always, a terrible place to be), the pain and strain brings you to question everything.

Your loyalty to Tianna, which isn't even your homeland. Your debt to Amata, which could be considered re-payed by the fact that you have saved her life during the abyssals' attack. Your night of passion with Irene, merely a few hours of fun between two consenting adults. This blasted city, which still fears and mistrusts you after you arguably saved their bacon from a freaking DEATHLORD.

Why are you doing this? Why are you doing this while wearing a demeaning servant's outfit when you have the chance of having much more, of doing much more, of BEING much more?

Step after step on the incredibly long road back to Tianna, you spend your time with your own doubts and questions.

It feels like you've crossed the entire Creation, down the great sea, through the blessed island's valleys and cities and rice paddies, up and down from the Blessed Mountain and the Mountains at the Center of the World, across the Inner Sea, up the River Province with its cities and its kingdoms, into the Far East.

After eight million years, you lift your head, struggling against the load of stone put upon your shoulders, fully expecting to see the Elemental Pole of Wood before you.

The gates of the city. Well, close enough.

Finally, your strength, even sustained by Essence, fails you, and you are crushed beneath one thousand tons of solid stone

Time passes, in darkness.

Finally, you are brought back to light. A fading light, of the red glow of twilight reflected by a thin, sparse cloud cover.

"Oh good heavens Maka please tell us you're alive." You feel a familiar voice calling you, and hands grab you and pull you up. Lifted from the soil, you catch for a moment the sight of a distinctly Maka-shaped imprint in the ground. It's so ridiculous you can't help but laugh.

"...I found my answers..." You croak.

"What the heck is she talking about?" You hear someone comment before a flask full of cold water is unceremoniously jammed in your mouth.

You're brought back to life. Amaa, Irene and Samiel are all around you, as well as the stoneworkers and a lot of guard and citizens.

"...You never answered." Irene seems almost angry with you. "I was so worried!"

"Was... under..."

"No! Before! While you were carrying! We kept asking you if you were alright and if you wanted to take a break but you never answered! You just kept walking straight! We were worried as hell, but we couldn't exactly stop you now could we!" She protests.

"...Sorry if I worried you." you babble, before Amata dumps the rest of the flask on your head.

"Dragons above." She sighs.

OP, have we regained any personal essence yet? Might want to activate our social power for this conversation.

we burned them all on that boulder.

[Exaltation Chargen: Gained new Power]
[IRON SKIN CONCENTRATION (1 Ess): Causes one attack suffered to deal 1 less point of damage (min. 0).]
[Character Creation Ended. Changes Finalized.]
[Backgrounds: +1 Influence]
[1 damage suffered, Health 4/5]

It takes you a while to understand that you're being sheered. It takes you a moment more to realize that it's the people of Tianna doing it.

They saw everything. You collapsed in front of the city gates, after all.

It's not a lot of people. Some are silent. Some are leaving. Many, you imagine, haven't seen it, and will only learn through word-of-mouth, probably a distorted version, changed to fit the aims of the one telling it.

But you don't care, mostly because everything in your body hurts and you are too pain to brain right now.

You are hoisted up on Samiel's shoulder and carried back to palace, pieces and tatters of your ripped maid dress leaving a train behind you. You guess it was too much for it.

You also manage to see a large wooden crane, slowly hoisting the slabs of stone so that they can then be dropped to fill in the hole in the walls.

...Another thing you notice worries you. It's just a glimpse, but there are arrows stabbed in the ground just outside the breach. A small pool of blood, here and there. Before you turn a corner and your line of sight is interrupted, you see weapons scattered about, and some bodies.

You are then plonked on your good old bed by Samiel. Amata and Irene haven't accompanied you this far, likely taking their leave in order to attend their business.

The short maid, however, is there, waiting for you with a large mug of smoking hot tea in hand and a platter of cookies in the other.

"...Take good care of her." Samiel smiles, patting her head. A gesture that she seems to enjoy. "Will do, master."

He then turns to leave.

(I always try to put a (cont.) but sometimes forget to do so, but in general I'll ALWAYS write a selection of choices at the end of my final post so you know I'm done. Like now.)

>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata or to bring her a message. (what?)

Talk about the letter the Abyssal dude sent.
>>
>>30482229
>>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata or to bring her a message. (what?)

That letter from the Abyssal. Also would be good to ask what was up with the blood and bodies.

>sheered
lel I am dumb. was CHEERED. sorry, I checked and I AM running this with a fever. Ignore and try to make sense of any typos.

>Stop him, tell him that the queen can question you about the encounter in the forest now, if she wishes.
Should get this over with.
>>
>>30482229
>>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata or to bring her a message. (what?)
Say you need to tell her about a letter, and can explain what happened with mystery guy outside the quarry as well.
>>
>>30482229
>Stop him, ask him ito call for Amata...
We need to tell the queen about the letter and about the meeting we set up tomorrow night.
>>
>>30482229
>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata or to bring her a message.

We got some explaining to do about that Abyssal's letter and our encounter in the north.
>>
>>30482229
>>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata or to bring her a message. (what?)
We have things to talk to her about. URGENT things.

"Can you..." Man, was talking always this painful? "...Can you call for your mother?"

"Shouldn't you rest?" He asks, concerned.

"I AM resting." You tiredly point out. "I AM in BED."

Defeated by your sound logical processes, he nods and leaves.

Milliam approaches with tea and cookies and offers you the cup and platter.

Lying down on the bed, moving a single muscle, you simply open your mouth. Even that simple level of exertion shoots pain through your skull so hard you actually wince, a full two seconds later (the time it takes, right now, for your reflexes to activate)

Understanding immediately, the dutiful maid blows a bit on the tea until it's a bit milder, then slowly and expertly pours it down your mouth, tossing in a cookie for flavor every now and then.

"Must've been a rough day." She just notes. You barely manage to chew and nod to her at the same time without pulling a muscle.

Then, you black out, and are woken up by the sudden jolt of a finger suddenly piercing your sides, just below he rib.

Amata is kneeling by your bed, looking tired but mildly entertained by your reaction. The maid has left. The sun has went down. You must have dozed off for half a hour or so.

"I'm here." She just says, pulling herself up on the bed and sitting on it, next to you. Then, looking at the sorry, sorry, sorry condition you're in, she takes some pity on you.

"...roll over. You can talk while I give you a massage. You look like you pulled every muscle in your body." She says. "And while I do that, tell me everything."

[end session]

>Stop him, ask him to call for Amata.

We have to tell her about the creatures in the North, and our meeting with them. As for the letter, we'll see.
>>
>>30482596
Yay! Massage!

But how are we supposed to roll over if we can't move without blinding pain?

Thanks for the thread, Exaltedfag.

Next thread will be... I have no idea. I'll TRY to run tomorrow but with the way my health is I promise nothing. Maybe you'll just get a slow thread typed from tablet at bed.

I'll try and hang around. Discussions, questions, suggestions and criticisms are welcome.
>>
>>30482642
yo OP, you might want to get a twitter for the quest, to keep players up to date on scheduled run times/delays and link threads
>>
>>30482642
Thanks for running! I'm enjoying it a lot so far. Even I know nothing about Exalted.
>>
>>30482639
It's just bashing damage, we'll be fine in the morning.
>>
>>30482596
>massage
Yes. OH yes.
>>
>>30482642
Thanks for running the quest. Get some rest.
>>
>>30482663
Hadn't thought about that. Will look into it. Thanks. Incidentally, if I did this, how many of you would use it to keep up to date? (asking to see if i should bother)
>>
>>30482750
I would.
>>
>>30482750
statsitically speaking, I and the 5 other anons that lurk probably would
>>
>>30482750
I would. Especially since you seem to run at a few different times of the day.
>>
>>30482750
I would, also a note about twitter/quest usage, most anons don't have accounts, so they'll bookmark the twitter page and check it for updates rather than make an account and follow, but it still helps
>>
>>30482879
I don't know about most, but yeah I have the Quest Runner Directory always open in a tab myself.
>>
>>30482750
I would definitely use it.

>>30482642
Critiques? Well, you're getting better at not extending posts out into 2-3 post long updates. The ideal rate for most quests is 2-3 updates per hour, with one or at most two posts per update. That keeps things happening and players responding often enough to be properly engaged. You're definitely moving in the right direction on that front.

Now that we're done with character creation, how long and how much effort does training take? For example, if we want to get the scene-long upgrade to our soak charm, what would that take/cost?
>>
Anyone gonna archive this?

Lately i do a lot of travelling and waiting, so i'm not always in front of my PC. (which is why i tried to take up quest-running in the first place, to keep myself busy) which is why i sometimes update slowly / irregularly / with huge pauses. It's not optimal, but I literally have no other choice.

As for mechanics, it will be based on a simplified character points mechanism (which i haven't detailed yet).
>>
>>30484175
Right, I've got you, I was more talking about post length. I don't know that there were any three-post updates in this thread, and there were quite a few in previous ones. Definite improvement.

Can you detail it right now?
