Things seem lighter now- a weight having lifted not just off you, but oddly enough, Anzu and even Miho, despite her new responsibilities- Well the weight will probably lift off her once she comes out of her catonia.

"Miporin, look!" Saori says, trying to stir her friend back into cogent though. "Ice cream!"

"So, the Coup d'etat went well then?" Rose says, sitting down besides you and your, by most measures, gigantic bowl of Sweet Potato ice cream- it really was pretty addicting once you got the taste for it.

"Does it count as a coup d'etat if she saw it coming and volunteered to let it happen?" You say.

"Let it happen?" Rose says incredulously. "That girl was planning on it." She takes a bite of her what's left of her cone. "Don't believe the petty dictator routine- she might need enough ritalin to kill a bear, but she's the smartest one in the room and she's already bored with it."

>>
Ok, Blackjack, I am out. I will catch the archives, but at least try to make the rails a touch less visable. Shit.

Reposting this from last thread, lets see if we can't get an intelligent discussion running

>You're suddenly a bit uncomfortable, with every eye on the room locked on you and expecting an answer. "What I'm saying is that we need to change how the team is run-" When you'd started this conversation you hadn't meant it to become a coup.

This is not a vote, but a sidenote to BlackJack.

This is what I'm talking about when I've mentioned railroading and lazy writing. We've all made it pretty clear we are upset with Anzu, and there really should be no hesitation about calling Anzu out and giving her the clear answer we've been discussing from day one.

Why is our character hemming and hawing over telling Anzu that we feel she is not fit to lead?

I'm pretty sure that even with all of the varying opinions here, even with those who like Anzu, we all are on the same page that Anzu is not, in her current state, fit to lead the team at all.

Try to write conversation tighter and in line with the choices we make, it hides the rails a LOT better if you do.

See, right now you are not even allowing the possibility of something good happening to enter your side of the argument, which makes discussing this with you pointless.

Good day sir.
>>
Maybe BlackJack and us should step back for a minute, spend some time cooling off, then we can all come back together and try to make the quest better.

There is some good CC in the threads, but there is also a lot of shit flinging which doesn't help anyone.
>>
>>25501610
I'll add some CC for the quest.
Could you not just time-skip whenever YOU, rather than US, want? It's helping to make us feel like our opinion doesn't even matter, and it's keeping things unresolved that we really, really want to get resolved so that we can move on.
Yes, hating on Anzu has become the new popular thing to do, but if we could just get our complaints out in the open and maybe get some closure on the subject, we could all shut up about it. This may be an anime-based quest, but this is /tg/ not /a/. We'd really appreciate skipping some of the less likable Animoo cliches.
>>
>>25501647
And how exactly is this an excuse for him to not enter into the discussion we are having here?
>>
>>25501656

Shit flinging?

All people are saying is that BlackJack isn't even responding to complaints. No one is resorting to ad hominems or calling him a faggot (except the ones defending him, ironically enough).

Sometimes the most vocal people are the ones who really love the thing they're being vocal about. This is one of those times.

That doesn't even make sense.
He can still respond to a given number of posts, even as other posts are made. He doesn't have to address everyone at once in a single post.
He couldn't anyway, with the character limit on each post.

You sit down next to Miho. "Commander, my Commander?" You say, jokingly. You doubted she'd get the reference but still. "You really should enjoy this more. We've finally and, hopefully perminantly, seperated the political and military leadership." You poke her with the handle of your spoon after you take a bite. "Seriously, you're the best person to lead this team- I know it, the rest of the team knows it, hell even Anzu probably knew it."

This finally gets a response from Miho. "Really?"

"If I didn't I would've taken leadership of this ratrace myself." You grin at her. "Would've been a real coup d'etat then- French style! Guillotines and kangaroo courts. Real bloody and guts affair." Your description of violently purging the student council of all who opposed you gets a small laugh from her. "Seriously, lighten up- it's a sport, not real war. We're going to have fun!"

"Thanks. I will." Miho says.

Yes there is an overall plot. It's vague and has plenty of room for anon to make his own course through it. And the challenge of fitting the plot to anon's choices and vice versa is actually my favorite part of the whole thing.

>>
>>25501938
>he might do the drill sgt. method.
You're aware that Drill Sgts and DIs don't ALWAYS go full Hartman, right? The really good ones are the MASTERS of the "Boy I ain't mad at you, I'm just disappointed." conversation, and no when it will get better results than yelling. A Drill Sgt's job is to make you BETTER than you were when you came in, and the good ones can tell exactly what they need to do with each individual to achieve that goal. There are shitty Drill Sgts, yes, but nobody should ever aspire to do a job poorly.
>>
>>25501942

For the most part- I also try to keep the writing itself around a PG-rating, (Mostly because that's about where the show was- it's actually one of my pet peaves in fanfiction when characters are introduced and swear like sailors in what's effectively a kids show. Tends to entirely throw off the tone.) That's largely why anon's "Knifehand High" anger tends to get toned down a lot.

Yukari, Erwin, Mako, and Sodoko also go out to scout Pravda's positions in episode 9. Admittedly there wasn't much chance of live tank rounds flying about, but it's still scouting on foot.

Dude, you respond to the Shitposter, but don't even consider the people trying to get your attention to better your quest?
Seriously, fuck this fanfiction guy, you say you listen to Anon but you never listen to anon. You've been ignoring everything we WANT to be doing.
What about the actual debriefing part of the debriefing? Where we try and better our squadmates? What about the criticism that basically says we'd like you to work on your tone and your nasty habit of fading to black?
I'd really like to just get the bad blood of the quest (Anzu, actual tank practices) and get away from this half-assed non-aggression policy we're dealing with.

I feel like my choices cannot drastically affect the outcome of the quest-at-large. Yes, we could've flubbed the Gloriana match or won the training match even more than we did, but either way we wind up back at the same thing. Compare Bioware writing (You have choices, but wind up doing the same general thing) to say, turning dungeon-crawling into sky pirates.

Let's say that Anzu-bit went south. Let's say the thread at large (And not just the idiots who yell "Lol kill anzu 4 te lelz") decided "Fuck this, time for Saunders" and put down multiple write-ins to this effect.

Would you deviate significantly from the plot of the anime in favor of letting Anon do what they wanted?

Would you scrap your long-term plot and characters if Anon chose this?

Answer me in PM if you want, but I would like an answer.

Okay, but they were all examples where the girls who got out of the tanks did so with the full knowledge and expectation that either they were in an area where they would not be fired upon, or with the knowledge that there are tanks in the area and that they need to be on guard.

Same here >>25502016

The problem I have with Anzu is that she was outside of her tank, in an area where her tank could have come under fire at any time, AND was not paying attention to the radio, and so could not help her teammates and did not know that there was danger in the area.

Do you see the difference between reprimanding her from simply being out of the tank, and reprimanding her for dangerous behavior?

I once worked with a man who was a retired Army Master Sgt.
We worked in a rather dangerous environment, and the fastest way for a new guy to piss him off was to blatantly disregard the safety precautions that were already explained to them. If someone did that, he would call them into his office for what he called a "Significant Religious Experience".
Basically, a premium-grade verbal beatdown. And he delivered them without ever resorting to profanity. Dude was scary when he was mad.

OK, I can accept that. No foul language, keep the anger in check.
Could we please, please - Really, I'm begging here - Actually finish one problem before moving on to others? Once again I'm talking about the Anzu problem, or the paint problem, or any of the plot threads that haven't come back up yet. I - And I think a lot of other anons as well - are sick and tired of trying to get some of these over with, but instead of being able to confront and deal with a problem, we instead stammer, don't communicate how we want, then fade to black in another scene without having resolved our problems.
It exacerbates the problems, the thing with Anzu never should have become such a shitstorm if we could just sit down, talk to her like adults (Or at least like 18-year old young adults), and get some of this bad blood resolved.
Then we could move on to the FUN parts of the quest, like the schoolgirl hijinks and tank battles.

The "Tigers" in Kelly's Heroes were mockups built on the chassis of T-34s, so they were undersized. Still VERY good for the time. By comparison, Patton used (ironically) M48 Pattons as standins.

I think the issue you are addressing here is a more aesthetic one than our more commonly issued complaints. I, for one, have no real problems with the tone either of your writing or of anon's votes. What worries me is more that, in some cases, you take only the aesthetics of a choice and seem to disregard the intent behind it. I think that there are many posters here, and anon can and will correct me if this is false, who would be fine if you completely rewrote one of our write ins, keeping not even a single word, so long as our character attempted to more towards the objective indicated by the write in.
>>

>GuP just seems to pure to sully with adult language
Okay, I can buy this.

>>25501905
>Yes there is an overall plot. It's vague and has plenty of room for anon to make his own course through it
But I can't buy this. Our choices seem to have little effect on the MC's actions, and very little on the story's progression overall. It's perfectly fine to reword our complaints into a style that resembles the original material, but you seem to be either giving them only lip service or ignoring them outright.
>>
>>25502108
>if anon's hellbent on pressing the red button, sometimes the QM's gotta allow it.
And yet when we wished to have a proper debriefing where everyone could benefit from our reprimanding of the Freshmen for dangerous behavior, you ignored it.
We're now in a setting where such a reprimand will not be as effective, both for the Freshman team or for the other teams who should learn by listening.

You have already said that you will twist the players' choices to fit your plot, and that you will intentionally cripple them, and it is frustrating as a player when my intentions are not only overruled, but made superfluous.

Given that tanks are pretty loud there's not much danger of being surprised, CREED.

Whether she knew there was danger or not is pretty irrelevant. Even if you know that tank is barreling down on you, there's not much taht can be done about it.

Heck, numerous tank commanders do far more insane stunts of defying fate by sticking their heads out of their turrets. Noriko was completely outside her tank when Alice shot her.

Well there lies one of the major problems with this quest.

Given everyone wants their favorite girl to win and that a substantial number of them are effectively unavailable, there is quite a bit of tension.

Contrast SWQ where witches from everywhere are slowly being brought in. Albeit it did take some time but the plot was flexible enough to allow such an event to occur.

>Even if you know that tank is barreling down on you, there's not much taht can be done about it.
There's getting inside the tank with it's inner safety armor, for one.
And okay, with the Comets specifically, she might have heard them in time to get in the tank (assuming that she doesn't assume they're an Oorai tank and stay outside instead). But with a tank that has a longer ranged main gun, fighting in a different battlefield, she might not hear them.

Though I suppose that if BlackJack is going to give everyone plot armor from injuries, I have to concede that danger of being injured is a moot point, though IC the MC shouldn't know about that and should be concerned.

Let's just say jumping ship to join a school that might not even feel it needs or wants us might not be the best option. Keep in mind that we're only here because Oorai was desperate enough to take a chance on a male team. Why would a better funded and equipped school feel the need to break tradition in that way when they already stand a good chance of winning anyway. (Every team that Oorai fights against over the course of the show has one this tournement at least once in the past, or is implied to have come close.) As powerful as Black Jack is and as skilled as your crew is, why would Saunders need us if they already expect to win? Especially considering the cultural biases that likely exist, not just against men driving tanks, but foreigners.

And Saunders would probably me the most likely of the other teams to take us in.
>>

And also, you completely misinterpreted my question in>>25501942, it had nothing to do with swearing or that kind of tone, but the tone of the choice we choose, the gravity or lack thereof in a situation, the physical intent of an action we intent to occur, only for nothing to happen because our choice gets interrupted

Hey, Naomi is awesome (and stacked).
The girl came to the match with with Ooarai planning to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And when she ran out of gum, she kicked the ass-whooping into overdrive. No seriously, rewatch the match. She actually does run out of gum, and then kick even MORE ass afterwards.
There are also Arisa's loader and gunner, who are fun as hell in what little we see of them. Poor girls basically have to play Kif to her Zapp.

I feel that you are treating this as a rail-shooter game instead of a quest. Sure we may be able to choose right or left but we're still firmly on the rails. The problem in this case isn't that you have rails, but that the rails are obvious and noticeable, and you can't handle anything that attempts to deviate from them.

Erwin is my waifu, Yukari is my daughteru. But in-character, I think the only reason we're still here on Ooraiboat is because of social ties - The scant few friendships we've started in the what, week? Two? We've been onboard. Anzu has "almost" lost us with her shenanigans how many times now?

I didn't start this conversation topic because Waifus, so please /a/nons, can you stop trying to dick your bestgirl for a second? Thanks.

I brought this up because I think it's an excellent example of what /tg/ and to a lesser extent, quests, allow. Completely ditching the pre-established guidelines, no matter how hard or soft they may be. Commander Shepard wants to run an aquarium and collect fish, fuck reapers.

I know we're going to have votes colored by bestgirl or whatever, but I still like to think I can actually act in-character without trying to get in the pants of a girl that, to our knowledge, doesn't exist, at a school we may or may not know of.

I have absolutely no interest in waifus, neither did the anime. I just want to participate in Girls und Panzer, the quest, instead of reading Girls und Panzer, the interactive fanfiction.
>>
>>25502391
>And what about the complaints of timeskips being used to avoid actually resolving problems and letting them fester?
This, its getting really annoying when everyone wants to resolve an action, and you skip ahead and its still unresolved.

The paint issue being a memorable example.
>>

>When you'd started this conversation you hadn't meant it to become a coup.
We explicitly started this conversation with the intent of telling Anzu she was totally unfit to command the team. The mass consensus well before we started was that she was totally incompetent. We *did* mean this to be a coup, quite definitely and clearly.
Yeah, this. This kind of thing right here.
Blackjack, your storyline and pacing is all rather good, and your characterization of people is top-notch. That's why you have so many fans. You'll get a lot fewer dissenters if you'd take into consideration the tone and intent, as well as the action, that we quest fans are trying to convey as well. I think 90% of our complaints would be allayed if you'd let the MC actually get angry and stay that way, instead of letting all of our steam and intent get swayed by a little girl who isn't even making an interesting point.

Okay I caught up with the discussion at large...

So everyone who was screaming "JUMP SHIP" did end up realising that that's meta gaming of some unimaginable magnitude?
Because at the MC's point in the quest... he isn't even AWARE of an Americano-phile school.

Or the rabid anons about the bloody student council. Pacing and timing you nit wits, you know you asshats started screaming well before there was any reason for the MC to act on such notions?

Or how about this. Just because anon has discussed x plan or idea... Doesn't necessarily mean the MC has.
Why?
Because unlike in a proper RPG... The MC here ISN'T "your" character.
Now if you would kindly stop stroking your hate boners and take off those crimson tinted glasses of hate you might be able to see that given the circumstances urging Black jack to act upon /tg/'s screams to JUMP SHIP or SLAP EVERYONE'S SHIT is entirely unreasonable from a narrative point of view.

So far it's just been the QM. We're telling him what's wrong, here, in this thread, because this is where he's posting.

"So Miho, since I'm not in command or anything, I can only offer this as a suggestion, but the Freshmen girls bailing on their tank like that was something that could've gotten them killed." You say, finishing off your bowl. "If I go over there and talk to them about it, I'm going to start yelling and probably make them cry. So maybe you could talk to them about how safe it is in their tank?" You say, practically bleeding insinuation out your ears.

Miho nods. "And Anzu too. I'll go talk to them now."

You grin at her. "Great, this team's working out better already." You say with an encouraging fist bump to her shoulder.

Meanwhile, you've got a StuG crew to appreciate the hell out of. You find their table filled with lively discussion. It was some comparison of the Romans expansionism vs. Japanese colonialism in the Near East during the 20th century. It has absolutely nothing to do with tanks so you interrupt. "So, who was gunning the StuG today?" You say boistrously.

The one who always pretended to have one eye turns around and nods at you. "I was."

You nod. "And you were shooting during the practice game as well?"

She nods again.

"Keep that up and we're going to need to get you a belt to put notches on. And that goes for the rest of you, too. Especially the idea for the flags- that was brilliant." They bow courteously.

"Though we did have an idea." Erwin says. "We like the paint scheme on the StuG but I was reading a book on German tanks and I saw some really good ideas for camoflague."

Between the anzu votrexes of rage, talks with Miho and Yukari, and the general limited nature thus far, we really hadn't had a chance.

More or less correct though Yukari has both looks and personality.

As far as Reisen goes? in say touhou CYOAs she has to deal with Kaguya (miss eternal princess famed for her beauty), Eirin (genius doctor often show with one hell of a figure), and occasionally Tewi (looks young but is a sly

Hey, I wouldn't upset if Miho won, rather I'd be surprised. And I ever said she didn't have fans, just that other girls would likely have more fans.

>>25503076
But most of the people voting were getting fancy worded and not using greentext as much as they should.
>>
>>25502987
Well, not just terrible counting.
Also people confusing the greentext choice of "Go talk with the Freshmen" to mean the MC talks with the Freshmen, rather than what it actually meant, which is to tell Miho to talk with the Freshmen.

It's obvious in the posts that they wanted MC to talk with the Freshmen.
>>
>>25503097
>But most of the people voting were getting fancy worded and not using greentext as much as they should.
Then BJ should outline a clear voting procedure to determine what counts and what does not, MGQN had this same problem and it caused a massive shitstorm, now Decu uses the suggestions provided and has a clear voting structure, and everything is fixed.

>>
>>25503208
It still makes it a hell of a lot easier to determine what is a legit vote and what is not, rather than having to scroll through the thread and manually find them.

>>

No, what's frustrating here is we try to do one thing and you deflect us to something else.

And honestly, if you have such trouble writing and responding at the same time, just say that you'll answer questions at the end.
Because you always bugger off as soon as the thread ends, and you never answer questions then or at the beginning of the next thread after you've had time to consider responses, we get into these arguments while people are waiting for a story post.

"Interesting..." You say, taking a seat at their table. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, the bright colors are out. Flags too. They served their purpose but that trick isn't going to work twice." Erwin says, leaning in excitedly. "We're going to talk to the mechanics about a mottled grean-brown with tan dots."

"So what do we do if we're fighting somewhere that isn't green and brown?" You ask, encouragingly.

"Camo net- I got the idea from a guilly suit I almost bought online last year."

"The green brown is a great base- we can add grass, branches packed with snow, brush, whatever we want to look like." Caesar says. "Erwin found a picture on the internet of a tank and you can only just barely see the barrel sticking out!" Well, considering how often Caesar and Erwin tended to butt heads, if they were in aggreement on this it's a damn good idea.

"I like it. Fund it, and tell every other team how well it works- and start with the Freshman, please." You shudder a bit. "No tank should have to be subjected to being pink..."

Team GUTS!

A couple of questions for tank enthusiasts in this thread.
1.) Is there an accurate historical account of Japs using white phosporus/willy pete shells (on tanks) during WW2?
2.)How good are our chances of petitioning the Senshado League to legalize a safe, substitute round with equivalent effects for tournament use?
If they can't get a new tank/get attached to the I-Go, I'm thinking of having them do some screening, covering retreats, and rusing the enemy team. Or blind them outright. They were effective with just regular flares, so what more if they use this? World-building, ho!

posting this for BJ's consideration

-------------

The problem is that its only a clever plan to your mind, who knows how different you think compared to us, you cannot ever assume that one of your players will understand something you put in the game unless you put yourself in their shoes and go through it as they would. As a game designer this is probably the hardest thing I have to deal with, making players understand my designs as if they discovered them as their own, that fine line between feeding it to them by spoon, and making it impossibly obscure to find.

This is one thing novels and other forms of written literature get around, because there is not interaction on the readers behalf, they interpret it as their own version, their own discovery, and it never matters if its different to what the author intended.

But the moment you have someone interact with your design, unless you understand the inner intimate working or your players mind, you cannot ever assume anything without it going spectacularly badly, for all parties involved.
>>
>>25503575

Well, considering that the round isn't suppose to penetrate, there's probably already something like it. Though smoke rounds and smoke launchers would probably work better.
>>
>>25503575
Smoke shells would probably work, if the I-Go ever used them. I'll have a look.
>>
>>25503647

My guess is that they did, since they were largely an infantry support tank, so they probably had a white variety of rounds for doing that job- smoke, HE, flares, etc.

The 'reality of quest threads' is that player participation is important, and deliberately alienating the players is a good way to kill your quest.

As you wander through the packed ice cream parlour you find the next group you needed to have a word with...

"You guys look a bit glum." You say taking a seat at the table next to the Volleyball team. "We won! Why are you moping?"

"Yeah, we won, but we didn't do anything..." Noriko says sourly. "Just drove around for a bit getting shot at and then we got knocked out."

You frown. Yeah this wasn't going to stand. "So you guys didn't warn us about the Comets, and subsequently stay alive long enough to give us an accurate enough description of them that we were able to know what we were up against?" You lean in. "I'm going to tell you guys a secret, the I-Go is a piece of crap, barely worth being called a tank, but you guys have not only managed to survive in it, but have chiselled out your own little niche on the team as a scout."

They still look a bit glum. "Sometimes what a team needs isn't another gun firing, but information and intelligence." You clarify. "You guys might not be the ones getting all the glory and the kills, but every time you call out an enemy position or let us know which tank is where, you're making us win as surely as putting holes in the other team's tanks."

"Still..." Akebe, their gunner says, "It would be great if we could do something other than run away..."

>I'll see if I can get you some special ammo...
>You guys don't need to resort to shooting to get your kills...

"Y'know, the I-Go was an infantry support tank... Probably kinds of interesting specialty shells we could outfit you with..." You say slyly. "With your ability to drive, imagine what you could do with smoke shells, or using HE shells to bust tracks..." They might not rack of kills like the StuG, but they'd be able to wreak holy hell on the other team nonetheless.

Akebe nods. "Well, as long as I get to do something more productive than watching shell plink off armor..."

"Oh, you'll annoy the crap out of them with the right ammo. And make it easier for the big guns to take them down." You grin at the thought. "And with your driver? They'd never see you coming!"

You're still coasting on the idea of the I-Go team blinding and hobbling the enemy team when Yukari taps you on the shoulder. You turn around to answer her when she gives you the biggest bear hug you think her frame is capable of giving.

"Just... Thank you!" She says. "Thank you!"

In terms of improvement, here's a couple of suggestions already written throughout the duration of this quest.

>1.) Implement a cut-off time for voting.

Inform your playerbase when the voting period has closed if the write-up has begun.

>2.) Do pay attention to the intentions of readers regarding how they want actions executed.

I'm well aware that there are some points where certain actions seem excessive due to your need to filter said actions via how the MC would act in-game. As QM, you are the only one with 100% knowledge of the MCs characterization.
Therefore, a frame of reference might be needed for your playerbase on how the MC would conduct himself in said situation.

>3.) Avoid narrative skips as much as possible.

This seemed to be one of the main complaints in this quest. The sudden skips without fully resolving issues on the last post just feels... forced or lazy.
The playerbase does not have any context of events that happened in-between, thus they'll have no idea how to proceed onwards, unless it is only through the QMs prodding (which will most likely be considered railroading).
Players want to resolve said problems under their own terms for the gratification of accomplishing something.
*Some QMs only have [Skip] as a choice among a list of options, if said action does not warrant sufficient attention.

>That's all I have for now. Fellow anons, feel free to add anything else I may have missed. And please, keep your rage in check.

>Avoid misleading options
The choices between talking with the Freshmen and the StuG teams were written so that they could be interpreted either as something to be said TO Miho, or as the next action with the in-character context.
Make it more explicit if it's meant to be something said to someone else or in-character monologue instead of relying on quotation marks to define everything.
>>
No different to any other quest thread, same issues, same problems. Just more butthurt for the usual trite issues.

I'd ask how BlackJack's cock tastes, but you seem to have affixed yourself to his asshole.
