The mood in the Student Council's room is celebratory- nobody had expected a win today. Even Azusa, the commander of the freshman's M3 Lee who's crew had literally abandoned their tank at great personal risk the moment the shooting had started, was bragging about how the team's skills would lead Oorai to victory.

You're the commander of the M26E1 "Super" Pershing "Black Jack" and you know a terrible secret. Though you're still confused as to what that secret really entales.

Anzu clears her throat quietly to get the rooms attention; this doesn't work so Momo starts screaming. "LISTEN UP! The President is talking!"

"Thank you, Momo." Anzu says kindly. "First off, I'd like to congratulate the team for today's victory. It wasn't easy and, for some of you, it certainly wasn't expected. But Oorai's school spirit knows no obstacle it can't overcome. If you keep that spirit we will win again, and again and again." The girls around the table, aside from you and Miho who know just how much BS that was, beam with pride. "However, it must be said that today's victory would not have been possible without the work of Commander Russels, his crew and his tank, we would not have won." The mood of the room immediately drops.

You clear your throat loudly. You manage to get everyone's attention without resorting to an angry bemonocled Japanese schoolgirl. "I think it's premature to say something like that..." You say, leaning back casually.

Anzu stares over at you, an expectant look on her face. "How do you get to that conclusion?"

"Well, first of all, despite several things going wrong, Miho's overall strategic plan was a success- at the end of the day everything that needed to happen happened, and it wasn't just Black Jack making it happen. The StuG was invaluable in making the secondary ambush a huge strategic success and the I-Go's accurate reporting gave us a heads up that there were more tanks in the city." You've leaned forward during your rant, you finally relax and lean back again.

Miho blushes, but nods in agreement. "I agree, it should also be known that Glorianna took a huge risk in revealing that she had Comets and a Black Prince before the tournement starts in such a public way- it's likely that had Black Jack not been part of the team they would've kept their newest tanks secret and attempted to defeat us with their second-line tanks."

Anzu stares boredly out the window. "We can't know any of that for sure- from the performance of the team it's obvious that the majority of the Senshado teams were not taking this fight seriously- So it's my decision that all teams, with the exception of Black Jack, will be doing the Anglerfish Dance during the parade this Friday. The Student Council, included."

The point is that we're clearly going for a Marine Corps feel with our constant demand for KNIFEHANDS! and as such MCRD Parris Island is a better fit than Currahee (which doesn't even have anything to do with tanks).
Also, "O hai Ghost."
>>
>>25498573
Honestly, we're high-school age ourselves, we don't know anything about drill instructors beyond what we've seen in Full Metal Jacket.
>>
>>25498573
>we're clearly going for a Marine Corps feel with our constant demand for KNIFEHANDS!
See, I'd suggest the Army equivalent, but I don't know what that is, though I assume that there is one.

Actually, are we from an Army family or a Marine family?
>>
>>25498594
Tankers are traditionally army. I think it's only recently that we've started having armored Marine units.
>>
>>25498591
Both our grandfather and our father were/are active service members, and they helped to train us in tank commanding. I think we've experienced the drill sergeant routine first-hand.
>>
>>25498612
So replace KNIFEHANDS with the Army equivalent?
I can live with that.
>>
>>25498573

Saging cos off topic.

No, Island hopping is something they do on the island. or did. Basically, every battalion has a sand pit. Island hopping is when you piss off your DIs bad enough that they take you island hopping- running from sand pit to sand pit, stopping at each one to be quarterdecked for 10-15 minutes. it's really, really not fun.
>>
>>25498594
>though I assume that there is one.
Well, Parris Island is just one MCRD.
So the army equivalent is any Basic Training post really.
I'd suggest Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, just because the weather there is ALWAYS awful, and it's out in the middle of nowhere, thus it's nickname "Fort Lost-in-the-Woods".
>>
Looks like this will be yet another Anzu hate thread.
>>
>>25498665
No, no, I meant an equivalent to KNIFEHANDS.
>>
>>25498665
For the Army, Armor used to be at Fort Knox, but moved to Benning.

Knox is fucking hot as fuck, all kinds of weird bugs, and the rain is random as fuck. Bradley/HMMWV off-road day was the thickest fucking mud possible, and my platoon drew wash rack afterwards. We were scraping a foot of mud off the Brads after that.
>>
>>25498690

>>
>>25498573
I thought our grandpa was a leatherneck. Probably our dad too.
>>
>>25498690
No, I believe this one's different.
Anzu withheld important information about the opposing team. That's not really something to be excused, and she said that she already knew about the Comets, and didn't tell us or Miho until after the match was halfway over and they had secretly gotten to the city.

Also, as tank commander, it's her responsibility to keep her gunner in line. Which she failed to do and ruined our first ambush position.

These are demonstrable failures on her part for which she deserves a chewing out, just like the Freshmen need a scolding for bailing out during a fight.
But while the Freshmen could be excused because of inexperience, you don't need training to know that information about the opponent is supposed to be told to the people planning strategy.
>>
>>25498750

"BULL!" You shout in English. "I don't care if you include yourselves. You do not get to screw up the fight as badly as you did and then try to pass off some sort of 'group punishment'." You say, bursting from your chair. You're ready to spit fire and venom now. "Your gunner nearly knocked Miho's tank out of the battle with it's first shot, or would've if she were capable of hitting anything." Momo rocks back behind the verbal assault.

You point at Anzu herself. "After that you, amazingly, followed orders and went straight to the rendevoux point, where you promptly abandoned your tank because you were the only ones there, and therefore missed radio calls from the Volleyball team when they were under attack. And I might add that you knew that Glorianna had Comets and neglected to give us any kind of heads up."

"And finally, while your suicide rush did help distract the final Comet long enough for a far more competant team to knock it out, you couldn't even hit a tank twice your size from nearly point-blank range." You stop, breathing heavily from the outwelling of anger that you'd been holding up since you'd found out about this training match.

"So, I suppose you'd like an explanation then?" Anzu says calmly.

>"No. Screw your explanation."

You fall, slumping, into your chair. "Really? There's an explanation for the sheer amount of retardation you've displayed today?" You sigh. "Miho, do we even want to hear this?" You say.

Miho looks uncomfortable at the thought of being between you two- the girl is entirely too good natured. "Well, uh... We don't know everything so maybe we should let her explain herself...?"

You look back over at Anzu. "Let's hear it, then." You fold your arms over your chest and look expectantly at the Student Council President.

"Well, on your first point, you're absolutely right. Momo is a lousy shot- sorry Momo, it's true-, but that's exactly why we needed a training match against another school- to find our individual and team weaknesses in a realistic scenario. Perhaps you don't agree with it, but we learned more in two hours today than we did in two days of training."

"That's completely bull-"

"Commander, I let you have your say without interrupting." Anzu chides. "Now, as for the Comets. I knew about them two months ago when Glorianna first acquired them. I consider Darjeeling a close friend and we often trust our secrets with each other. As Miho said earlier, Darjeeling took a huge risk revealing those tanks before the tournement, a risk I did not expect her to take in a practice match. If had thought for even a moment that Darjeeling would be using those tanks I would've revealed that secret happily, but I take her trust seriously and if that information had been leaked needlessly, even if by accident, I would've been to blame."

She leans back in her chair, nearly to the point of tipping backwards. "Is there anything else, Commander Russels?"

"Second, you already saw what Glorianna had brought, so you knew the number of tanks they had, and so you fail at critical thinking at realizing that Glorianna had brought those Comets.

Not only is that all bullshit, but... NO, that's just bullshit.
OK, I give the friendship with Darjeeling card. Fine, what the fuck ever.
That doesn't excuse your terrible performance. That doesn't excuse you being a bitch, either. I didn't learn anything from this match except that you, specifically, are a terrible leader and Tankwoman. The rabbit crew didn't learn anything except how to be utterly terrified by a superior force. You, apparently, learned JACK SHIT about Tankery or how to deal with other crews of people.
That absolutely doesn't explain anything, and I refuse to let you punish the rest of the tank crew just because you're sore that you're a bad driver.

Just as a hypothetical, is there any proper way to have someone higher up with the school to remove Anzu from having anything to do with the club, if only temporarily?

>>
>>25499951
Which is why we need to splurge for ice cream- we need to get it out there that we and Miho are the good guys, while Anzu's the fuckup making them do the Anglerfish dance despite WINNING. How are any of them going to get husbands if they do that?

>Anybody else concerned that us being a hard ass, while necessary for Anzu, is going to drive away the others?

No. Because so far, we've tried to talk with the others, and tried to help the club. I think we made it clear we were serious about trying to be helpful.

Anzu has gone out of her way to piss off, terrorize, belittle, or otherwise stomp over everyone else in the club.

Honestly, if I had been in the situation, I would have talked to the Coach and/or Principal long ago, and pulled our team of the school based on Anzu's hijinks.

There's a reason you don't let a student council have any real power in a school setting.

That is true, certain things are exceedingly difficult to grill. That is why I was thinking pork ribs as they give the best effort/return in my experience. Little tending, just keep the heat at a certain level, and away you go. Little dry rub ahead of time and you are golden.

You lean your head down and massage the bridge of your nose. "Anzu. You aren't getting it. You really just aren't getting it. You might be great at school politics. I don't know I haven't been here. But whatever strategies you've used to run the school and are informing your strategies haven't worked and won't work to make this a successful tanking team." You lean forward again. "If you keep leading this team like this then we will lose and you will have brought me all this way for a couple of practice games."

"So what you're saying is that I'm not fit for command?" Anzu says, leaning forward. She genuinely looks a bit hurt. Again, the room becomes still and completely silent. As the question hangs in the air.

"President that's not-" Yuzu starts, but Anzu quiets her, looking at you expectantly.

You're suddenly a bit uncomfortable, with every eye on the room locked on you and expecting an answer. "What I'm saying is that we need to change how the team is run-" When you'd started this conversation you hadn't meant it to become a coup.

"That's not what I asked." Anzu says, demanding your answer.

She's fit for leading a student council. But a good commander needs to be flexible, honest with those she leads. Someone who won't threaten them with psychological punishment due to one faulty battle.

I'm saying she's not fit to command this team. Unless she makes changes.

>You're suddenly a bit uncomfortable, with every eye on the room locked on you and expecting an answer. "What I'm saying is that we need to change how the team is run-" When you'd started this conversation you hadn't meant it to become a coup.

This is not a vote, but a sidenote to BlackJack.

This is what I'm talking about when I've mentioned railroading and lazy writing. We've all made it pretty clear we are upset with Anzu, and there really should be no hesitation about calling Anzu out and giving her the clear answer we've been discussing from day one.

Why is our character hemming and hawing over telling Anzu that we feel she is not fit to lead?

I'm pretty sure that even with all of the varying opinions here, even with those who like Anzu, we all are on the same page that Anzu is not, in her current state, fit to lead the team at all.

Try to write conversation tighter and in line with the choices we make, it hides the rails a LOT better if you do.

Exactly. Whatever she does with the council? We've said as much, we don't do council politics.

What we do, however, is tanking. She's horrid at leading the team, and ousting her as the tank club leader should be a no-brainer, because she is going to get someone hurt or killed by this kind of crap.

Precautions or not, she's setting the team up for a horrid fall with her methods.

She knows fuck all about tanks and has done nothing to help us at all. We don't need Anzu at all.

Oh, and this must be the part where we're made out to be total assholes and lose the respect our the crew because we'll make a little girl cry when it is the objectively correct choice.
>>
>>25500469
>Why do I get the feeling that this is what she wanted all along?

Then she doubly deserves a spanking for putting the team through a very public, and very unnecessary bout of drama.

Nothing says Miho has to lead alone, nor does anything say we are going to seize the lead.

After all, we could either have joint leaders, have Miho lead with us as her second, or reverse it and have Miho as our second.

That's with the support of the other members, however.

We explicitly started this conversation with the intent of telling Anzu she was totally unfit to command the team. The mass consensus well before we started was that she was totally incompetent. We *did* mean this to be a coup, quite definitely and clearly.
>>

>>
>>25500523

>>

>The problem is, with her still on the student council seat, she can still basically boss us around

This is where we have a nice sit down with our Coach, and tell her if she's serious about us winning, she had better have a long talk with Anzu and make certain the crap stops.

We're not asking to beat on Anzu when she's down. We're asking her to stop being a liability, and be a team member.

What are you talking about Obama personally flies the drones himself using pic related then whoops after firing and demands high 5's from the entire cabinet.
>>
>>25500622
this is due to Blackjack being able to hit all the right buttons of his readers. hats off to him for it.
>>

But not leading the entire team.
>>
>>25500685
Never said she was. But she's a good gunner if she'd try.
>>
>>25500679
that and his reader base being akin to /v/: quick to rage over little things.
>>
>>25500622
You mean you actually fell for those debate tricks that Anzu pulled on you?
Not only that, but you're okay with the QM changing the wording, tone, and even intent of a popularly voted action just so it better fits into his preplanned routes?
>>
>>25500641
As long as we have her on the team, that's one more shell that isn't sunk into our actually useful tanks.

Besides, you actually think Blackjack'll remove his favourite way of pissing people off?
>>
>>25500622
>It's not a good idea to call a vote of no confidence on an incompetent leader.
/tg/ - White Knights.
>>
>>25500720
Honestly, I'd put the volleyball team into the 38(t). They deserve a better tank.
>>
>>25500679

oh please, BJ couldn't hit the right buttons even is he knew what they were, this is just him smashing the keyboard against a rock
>>
>>25500715
>QM changing the wording, tone, and even intent of a popularly voted action just so it better fits into his preplanned routes?
time and time again, I ask myself, if he is going to keep doing this, why the fuck is he not making this a fanfic, and instead a quest?
>>
>>25500641
>>25500667
Much as I may *want* Anzu off the team, let me remind everyone again that we flat-out *can't* unless we want to be down a tank. We don't have anyone to replace her in the 38(t), and we have so few tanks that we really can't afford to give up any of them.

>>25500755
Then who do we put in their tank? We still don't solve the problems of being a crew member short. (Also, the volleyball team is four people and the 38(t) only seats three.)
>>
>>25500246
>"What does the rest of the team think?" This
>>
"No, Anzu. You're a goddamn politician and the last thing any military at any level needs is a politician leading it." You say. "Hell, I'd really look seriously at whether you're even capable of commanding a three-girl tank team, but I doubt Yuzu or Momo would be any better at it than you." You expect tears, you expect to finally draw Anzu into the seething rage she seems so good at pulling you into. You expect her to immediately dismiss you from the team, send you and your tank home.

You are, therefore, completely confused when she shrugs and leans back. "Then its settled. Miho is the team captain." Sh reaches her hand out and Yuzu places a bag of chips in it. "I'm glad we had this discussion and I look forward to positive changes going forward."

"Wait! What?" You stammer. "You're not going to-"

"Do what? Beg to be the commander?" Anzu says as she takes a bit of a chip. "You've said it yourself, Commander, I didn't bring you halfway across the world so we could lose because I wanted to play the Glorious Dictator. If someone other than me is more capable of running the team then they should lead it."

You look over at Miho who wears a look of blank shock on her face.

"So, Commander Russels. I believe you mentioned Ice Cream earlier today?" Anzu says smiling.
>>
>>25500715
Not really but I'm not so hasty as to do something that might come back to bite the team in the ass later. Of course not that you'd care, all you care about is VENGEANCE.

Thank fucking god that VMQ doesn't have readers like you.

>>25500735
It's not white knighting but being practical as if we go about booting Anzu from school council, getting new things will be difficult as there'll be no adequate replacements for her skills (supplies/etc)
>>
>>25500735
>>It's not a good idea to call a vote of no confidence on an incompetent leader.
Can we call a vote of no confidence on an incompetent writer?
>>
>>25500622

I think I (and several others) have presented quite reasonable, thought-out criticism that would smooth out a lot of the problems that keep cropping up.

Despite what you think, all is not well with how the quest is being presented.

We don't have the authority to do that.

We just don't want her running the Tanking team, which is what she's also been doing since the start.
>>
>>25500786
I freaking called it.

So I'm assuming we're done for today due to no choices?
>>
>>25500817
Not the matter of the team, but her position as student council president. The two are distinct.

One leads the team on the field and one handles the supplies/logistics and the general goal.

Is it just me, or does less and less happen each thread? Last time we killed the black prince, and talked with people, today we argued with anzu. I'm not complaining, just concerned about the trend occuring.

Yes, and most were for removing her from leader of the team.

as long as there are garupans and tanks, we'll play along.
>>
>>25500809
... Hey now. There's dealing with a bad leader, there's harsh debriefings, and then there's denying little girls ice-cream. And she *did* soak up ammo that could have been directed at more important tanks.

>>25500786
Yes, there might even be some for you if you have finally gotten my green paint.
>>
>>25500844
Eh. Even if we were played, this is a net benefit for us overall.

Miho's calling the shots, Anzu is relegated to following orders, and we have probably gotten serious kudos from the team for standing up to President McPotatobitch.

Even if we didn't control the situation, it's ultimately developed to our advantage.
>>

"We are not done here yet.
"You left your position inside the tank, which is both a problem with your ability to command your crew, be a contributing member of the team as a whole, and is a very serious safety issue.
"Same with you Freshmen; NEVER get out of the tank when there are munitions being fired. You could have been hit by a stray piece of shell shrapnel or machine gun bullet. What you did, scared as you were, put your lives in danger."
>>
>>25500844
Here we all are clamouring for the girl who has her head on straight, and then when we get exactly that, we're stuck being "surprised" that Anzu isn't fighting harder when this is something we're perfectly fuckin fine with
>>
>>25500786
Thank fuck. She can feel happy at manipulating us if she wants to.

..... Shit, this is an important point - Sensha-do tanks are actually firing live ammo, aren't they? Special radio-containing live ammo, but still fast-moving hunks of metal. We *really* need to make this point - even later in the anime Miho has a tendency to sit halfway out of the turret while her tank's being fired upon.

>"Wait! What?" You stammer. "You're not going to-"

I don't think this was a surprise at all, why are we stammering?

Ok, I think I finally understand now.

BlackJack really likes Anzu, and has written this as a preset event, because this doesn't fit how Anzu has been depicted so far at all. It's too neat, too Xanatos Bullshit, and makes for a poor character.

Almost...Mary Sue-ish, and I don't throw that around lightly.

It's a fault of fanfiction-style writing. It's not bad per se, but is troublesome for quest/gaming sessions. It's when a GM gets too fixated on their own personal vision for a character.

Anyhow. Thanks for the quest, but I won't be following it anymore, BlackJack.
>>
>>25501044
no, we haven't, BJ is just railroading us along without dealing with any of the issues we are clamoring about
>>
I do hope Anzu doesn't think this gets her out of repainting the tank because yeah that's not going to end well for her.
>>

A gerber? Really? You want to lose another limb?
>>
>>25501047

>>
>>25501066

Because this is not a quest that BJ is writing, but a fanfic that he is trying to get an audience for, and it is a shitty fanfic at that.
>>
>>25501066
Yep. I don't understand why we stammered at all. Part of us already knew we were going to get played but we wanted her out at any cost. This isn't a surprise in the least. And once more this is shit we're talk about BlackJack.
>>
>>25501044
About what?
Between the MC and Anzu? Maybe, now that she's no longer in a command position.
Between the players and BlackJack? No, not even close.

then you have no fucking idea of how Planefag runs quests, because what BJ is doing is not that
>>

>>
>>25501106
>Ah, you see...Like him, I also subscribe to the planefag way of questrunning.
Even though this is nothing like the style Planefag runs quests with, you use that as an excuse to not improve it? So you actively encourage poor writing and a mindset that is deliberately detrimental to the quest?
>>
>>25501106
This is nowhere near planefag mode, so I'm not sure what you're on about.

>Ah, you see...Like him, I also subscribe to the planefag way of questrunning.
So on top of not even knowing what you are talking about, you went and got a shitty Beretta, what, you want to be even more of a cripple?
>>
>>25501106
>Like him, I also subscribe to the planefag way of questrunning.
Not really seeing it. Sure, yes, actions are supposed to be filtered through the MC character, but the player's choices and dialogue are not completely changed like they are here.
>>
Planefag like to play with trains, but at least he did so in an amusing and fun manner. He also still went along with majority votes, only picking to do his own thing if there was not a clear majority leaning for one thing.

BJ just seems to be doing his own thing regardless of what everyone else wants, and only siding wit the player in the most general sense if there is an overwhelming majority voting for one option. His writing is nowhere near as witty, comical, entertaining or funny as planefag, so he has nothing to fall back on when he pisses the players off.
