Also, to clarify, since some have asked, the way magic in this will work is that you get your base dice, plus additional dice for having foci (like having a glass eye when casting a vision-based spell, that sort of thing). The foci will be destroyed in the casting, unless they're specially prepared using Alchemy, in which case they can be reused but have something of a cooldown associated before they recharge. So, if you want to cast an Enchantment spell normally, you would have a single die - with appropriately themed objects to destroy as part of the casting, you can get significantly more.

When you cast spells, your spellcasting skill takes strain, which recovers with rest. So, it's a good idea to both prepare in advance and be careful about application of magic.

When you finish, it's getting to be late afternoon, or perhaps early evening. The shadows are getting long outside, though it's not dark yet. You go out for a few minutes and come back with a couple of kebabs for you an Liz to eat. You haven't really had anything since breakfast. After that, you and she saunter around the the place, trying to meet everyone and get a good idea of the pecking order. The first thing you realize is that there are students from literally all over the world here, and a lot of them don't speak English.

The second is that a lot more of them are in position to be competing with Liz in the first few weeks than competing with you.

The third is that, after that, you'll be the low-hanging fruit that people will want to knock off, while Liz will be relatively safe for the first few years near the top of the class.

Last, the bus goes every day during this week at midnight; the people here today are just the people who actually arrived today. Most of the class is either already at the school or has yet to arrive in Sibiu.

You find Dane eventually. He's leaning on another door frame and giving someone else the welcome. You see that he's talking to an Asian girl who looks to be alone. You wonder if Dane even bothers to talk to anyone other than women.
