Well, it's Tuesday, so I guess it's time for SW89! Been a busy last couple of weeks for us, especially last week's thread. I'm feelin pretty good, though I may take a short break in a few hours to go grab some chow.

Archives here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%201989
And a character sheet here: http://pastebin.com/zFxWNup1

As usual, I'm in the IRC.

++

It seems like your wakeup call comes far, far too early. Your brain protests that it's still like, oh dark thirty, and as such, way way to early to be fucked with this crap. Still, you're making an effort to be more responsible, so you dutifully grumble something incoherent and blearily look around the room. Jess has managed to monopolize all the covers on Merlin's bed.

You'd imagine that made sleep hard for your RIO, but apparently, at some point she just moved over to your bed and curled up unobtrusively on the other side.

You're not too sure how to handle that, honestly. On the one hand, she's your crew, and your responsibility. She's also your friend, and the two of you make a hell of an effective team- as is evidenced by your invitation to the White House Christmas ball and your multiple decorations. The pair of you fly what is probably mankind's most advanced fighter jet, and have ridden it into harm's way more times than you care to count already in this war. You've faced certain death together more than once, and come through the other side alive. Put like that? Her occupying the unused side of the bed seems kind of quaint.

She's up by the time you're out of the shower, already in her flight suit and boots, making a small pot of coffee from the machine on the desk. Your battered leather jacket is already draped over her shoulders, hanging down almost like a short cape on her.
>>
It's part of the reason that you're settling for a relatively new desert camouflage M65. So far, none of the witches have stolen that jacket from you, though you don't hold much hope for that staying true. You hope you can at least manage to keep it till you can get your jacket back from Merlin- whenever that will be- since at least it's warm.

But that leaves the problem of your sister- currently snoring on the other bed in the room, drooling on the pillow. Merlin hands you a cup of coffee and you both stand there for a second, savoring the roast and regarding your sister.

“What should we do about her?” Merlin asks.

[] “I'll call the folks, let them know she's here. Dad'll be up by now, they can come get her.”
[] “Eh, leave her. Let the front desk know she's up here.”
[] “Screw it. Let's drop her off with the folks. We can stop by on the way to the base.”

[x] “Screw it. Let's drop her off with the folks. We can stop by on the way to the base.”

You briefly entertain the thought of calling your parents and making her their problem, since it was their brilliant idea to bring her along anyway.

Then you decide dumping your sister back on them will be a lot more fun- plus, you kind of want to see the folks, it's been a while since California- what? Two months? More? Seems like more, anyway.

You sigh and hand your coffee to Merlin. “We can just drop her off with them on the way to post.” You tell her. “No point in bringing her along, and I don't trust her up here by herself.” Merlin nods in agreement, now alternating which cup of coffee she's drinking from- one from yours, one from hers, one from yours. You're almost worried about her getting hyperactive, but you've never seen that before, so you figure you're ok.

It takes a few minutes to wake your sister up, which surprises you- you'd think she'd be up like a shot, all that caffeine she drinks. “Buh. What time is it?” She asks, blearily rubbing her eyes.

“Oh six.” You say. “C'mon. Me and Merlin gotta get to post, and We're gonna drop you off with the folks on the way there.”

She flops back down on the pillow, rolling over and cocooning herself in the blankets further. “Too early. Sun's not even up yet.” She whines, trying to go back to sleep. You sigh.

“Jess, C'mon. We gotta greet our incoming pilots. You need to get back before the folks flip.” You insist, grabbing her foot and shaking it.

“Muh.” She protests. “Dun wanna. Can I just spend the day with you? I don't get to see any of my brothers anymore....”

She's playing the pity card. You're surprised she didn't earlier.

[x] No, Jess. I don't know if I can even get you in our hangar.

“No Jess.” You say, shaking her foot again to keep her awake. “I don't even think I can get you into our hangar.”

“Buuuuuuuut Fraaaaaaank” she whines, still hoping for a long-shot pity card victory.

“No.” You say, more forcefully. “C'mon Jess. Or do I have to carry you downstairs?”

“Hmph.” She balls up, scrunching the blankets all up and making it way too challenging to remove her from them.

So you don't- opting instead to grab the conveniently packaged sister and carry the whole ungainly mess downstairs, eliciting strange looks from the Hotel staff. You shrug as best you can. “Sister.” you say with a chuckle.

Outside, it's cold, but surprisingly clear. The staff car is driven by a younger enlisted sailor, probably assigned to the Pentagon. He salutes smartly, and opens the back door to the car, allowing you to dump your sister in and crawl in yourself, allowing Merlin to take the front passenger seat.

“Sorry about that.” You say, indicating the man's salute. “Wasn't trying to be a prick, just had my hands full.”

He laughs. “No problem, sir. Where to?”

“Stop by the witch house down by.... I actually have no idea where that's at.” You say, suddenly realizing a problem.

Your driver laughs. “The one on Hains point?” He asks. “Only one I know of in the city, though I think there's one over by Arlington too.”

“That's probably the one- Hains point, I mean.” You say, glad he knew what you were talking about.

He nods, pulling the car away from the curb and into the limited early morning traffic. “No problem, sir. Be about fifteen minutes.”

He's relatively chatty, catching you up on a broad group of civilian topics- he's a football fan, like your brother- and excited at the college games going on. Turns out there's some good new movies out, as well, and he's apparently big into the music scene, so you spend a good part of the drive discussing the virtues of Queen and glam rock, which, thankfully, is starting to die out.

The witch house is a fairly large, well-appointed colonial era mansion, owned by the sisterhood of witches- the American sisterhood, anyway- since the early 1800s. It's doors are open to any witch in the city, with room and board typically 'paid' for with work around the house, supplementing the limited staff in place. The front desk, however, is manned by a witch at all times- in this case, an elderly-looking matron of about 50 or 60. She smiles at you when you walk in the door, standing up to greet you, and looking at your sister bundled in her blankets, standing next to you.

“How can I help you fine young people?” she asks, kindly.

“Can you call for Gunnery Sargent Bishop, ma'am?” You ask, indicating your sister. “I'm dropping off my sister, and I've learned to make sure that the folks have a handle on her before I leave.”

The matron laughs lightly. “Ah, you must be their son, then. We’ve heard plenty about you and your brothers at dinner. Let me see if I can send someone to fetch your father.”

You nod. “Thank you, ma'am.”

it only takes a minute for your dad- clad in pajama bottoms and a that battered blue robe he's had for like, ever, to show up. The cup of steaming coffee in his hand makes you wish yours wasn't already gone- Merlin ended up draining a quarter of your cup before you got it back.

He regards you with a well-practiced NCO's gaze, then looks at your sister and grins like a shark.

“Hello, Jessica.” He says. “We were wondering where you'd got to.”

She swallows. “well, uh, I... uh...” She trails off.

“She didn't give you too much trouble, did she?” He asks you.

[x] Wish I could, but we really need to get to Andrews.

“Wish we could, dad, but Merlin and I really need to get to Andrews.” You say, mourning the loss of the steak and egg breakfast you'll never get.

He nods. “Thought you might have work today.” He says, then he smiles. “Don't forget to drop by and pick up your damned blues. They just look out of place, next to mine. C'mon Jessica. Let's go eat and discuss why you need to not just leave your mother and I a note when you decide to go bother your brother.”

You laugh and head back to the car. The trip to Andrews takes a bit longer- almost half an hour- and you spend the time in agreeable smalltalk with your driver and Merlin. He drops you off outside the security gate to your hangar, saluting you as you exit the car. “I'll be around all day, sir.” he says. “Admiral Nixon's assigned me as your driver for the day.”

After a security check, you and merlin enter your hangar to find it... exactly how you left it. Other than the addition of Katya and Ice, seems like nothing's changed inside. Nixon, looking less than pleased, lounging by his Tomcat, while Katya and Ice are both sitting near the nose wheel of your fighter.

He grins evilly. “That's ok though. It's just temporary. They've already got two of my witch units, they're not going to get to keep these folks.”

“Really, sir, we're -” Ice starts, but Nixon cuts her off.

“It's not just about you, Ice.” He says, frustrated. “Atlantic command and SHAEF have been pillaging PACCOM for units since day 1. We don't have enough witches as-is, and they're always screaming that they need more. You know how many times I've had to kill orders to transfer your unit to Europe?”

He sighs. “Well, regardless. Your new people aren't here, so I'll have to send 'em to you at some other point. You people are off the hook- you've got the day to yourselves. But-” he holds up a warning finger. “For the love of god, don't be late to the ball. 1800 sharp, understood?”

How does the Wyvren steer horizontally if it's rudders are tilted like that? Also does anyone know why the wings are shaped like that. I understand aerodynamics fairly well but I am still confus.

>>
>>22343460

The wings fold in for high-speed/supersonic flight.
>>
>>22343544
But why IN! Why not backwards? That's lift-surface you're just getting rid of, and also space in the wing that could be used for say, fuel, that's now reserved for folding in the outer wing.

It looks cool, yeah, but it's also wasting space and mass.
>>
>>22343588

why would you need more lift at higher speeds, you got shitloads of lift anyways

also would possible be a even more fucktard construction

[x] Go poke around town! See the sights, maybe go shopping when places start opening up!
[x] Go visit the folks, see if they have plans!

It's still too early to go poking around town- most of the city is still waking up, let alone open for business- but there was a steak and egg breakfast at the witch house, and maybe if you're lucky, you can get in on that.

Ice and Katya come along, making for a somewhat crowded car ride, but, sitting in the back, sandwiched between Ice and Katya, you hardly mind.

Alas, by the time you arrive there, breakfast is already long over, the tables cleared, and everybody's gone back to their rooms, or the lounge.

The matron at the front desk greets you again, taking time to greet both Katya and Ice. “Your parents are up in the lounge, Commander Bishop.” She says, looking back at you. “I can have someone go get them, or you can go up there yourself.”

[] go up! Be kind of interesting to poke around a witch holding, you've never done that before.
[] Eh, call them down. We'd like to make it into town sooner rather than later.

Hi thar.
Are you reading this or just jumping in to correct wrong concepts about aerodynamics?
>>
>>22343777
Ice already saw them when we were at Top Gun.
>>
>>22343588
Forward-swept wings have a lot of performance differences that can make them a better alternative to rear-swept wings, but suffer from problems at very high speeds. Using a swing design to switch from forward sweep at low speed to rear sweep at high speed would give the best of both worlds, and reducing the wing volume itself reduces drag, increasing speed.
You don't really need to worry about how much lift surface you have once you're actually, y'know, going fast.
>>22343644
[x] go up! Be kind of interesting to poke around a witch holding, you've never done that before.

Being all Sanic and "gotta go fast" even though the set up was predictable (choice to loiter/stay a bit or hurry on) as such choices tend to result in making you regret hurrying on.

I know you want to avoid the hijink traps that are everywhere in SWQ, but Ghost isn't one to do that.
>>

Pretty sure it was a whole mess of 'The Goddamn Nixon told us to be there so let's not be late'. You don't dick about when an admiral tells you what to do.

...what.

So it's anon's fault for actually following orders? I don't know who you think Frank is, but he is a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. And when an Admiral tells you to be at X Place at Y Time, you fucking obey him. Ignoring Admirals tends to end very badly for those who attempt it.
>>
>>22343786

Of course I'm reading it. THE OP PICTURE IS MOE, HOW CAN I NOT READ IT

as you peeps can see in this formula the v is squared,

so if you go fast enough other stuff starts to matter less which is in this case A

what also could be a point is drag, as you have a bigger frontal surface with wider wings, aka more energy needed to maintain speed

so tilting away wings should enable you to go fast more efficient
>>
>>22343855

Especially when said Admiral is the CINCPAC named "Tricky Dick" Nixon, considers you his golden-haired boy, and called in a favor to get you healed up fast and back to active duty.

>>
>>22343926
Oh no, it was most certainly a choice.

Just because you present anon with a choice doesn't mean they'll be free from the consequences of that choice. And "Ignoring an Admiral's orders" has some fairly serious consequences. Don't get mad because anon doesn't want to have to deal with them.

[x] Go up! Be kind of interesting to poke around a witch holding, you've never done that before.

“We'll head on up, ma'am.” you say, pocketing your cap. “I haven't really been able to see them in a while.”

The matron laughs. “Well, feel free then, commander Bishop.” she says, as she sits back down behind her desk, where you note she's reading one of those trashy romance novels. Eugh.

The way to the lounge is actually fairly short- there's not much between it and the front desk besides a short hallway. There's a few interesting pictures on the walls- one of General Lee and a pair of women holding brooms, and another of General Pershing next to a witch both stand out, as well as a few other pictures of famous wartime witches, some you can name, some you can't.

The lounge is smaller than you expected, and relatively empty. The inside wall is covered in book shelves, most of them full. The outside wall is a row of several large windows, looking out over the river to Arlington. Your parents and sister seem to be the only occupants- dad reading a very old looking book, and Mom reading one that looks older. Jess, for her part, is engrossed in a teen magazine- one with some boy band or other on the cover. You don't know, nor do you really want to.

“Hi mom, Dad.” you say, walking into the room.

Your dad puts down his book as your sister's head snaps up. Your mom looks over the edge of her book at you.

“Frank!” he says, surprised. “I thought you had business on base?”

You shrug. “Got kanked. Don't really know too much more than that, sorry.” You say. You parents both nod, your mom smiling.

You bid your parents and sister goodbye, and stop by your hotel long enough to hang your blues up in the wardrobe provided there.

Downstiars, Katy and Ice are trying to figure out where to go first. Apparently, it's a toss up between a book store Katya's heard of, and Ice wants to hop a flight into Phillips army air field, near the Aberdeen proving ground, to see about somethings for the squadron.

Merlin has zero opinion, apparently, and is plenty happy to come along wherever.

[x] Aberdeen's kinda close to Baltimore, and Ice wouldn't ask to go unless she thought it was important.

“Well, Aberdeen’s pretty close to Baltimore.” you say. “And they've got some good bookstores there. Got a friend that lives in the area, I'll give him a ring later.”

“What about getting there?” Merlin asks, looking up at you. You look over at Ice, who shrugs.
“We can probably borrow a utility bird or a hack. Either that or bribe one.” She says.

The drive over to Andrews takes a bit longer in the morning traffic, but once there, you're able to scare up a C-28A, with some help from Nixon, who's still on site and apparently somewhat agitated. Apparently, a C-141 from Colorado is late, and it's got the other half of the stuff for your squadron in it.

The flight into Phillips AAF takes a little over an hour, all told, but once you're there, Ice is out of the aircraft almost before it stops rolling, clearly very excited.

“C'mon!” She says, tugging you out of the plane once the propellers have stopped.

You manage to get her to calm down long enough to get the chocks in place, and let the ground crew know what's up- they'll leave your bird out on the pad and refuel it, no problem. Turns out Nixon fired off a phone call to them while you were in the air.

“Ok, what's here for us?” You ask Ice, who's practically hopping with excitement.

“Small arms testing range! I know a girl who works there! She said she had some things for us!” She says.

“Things?” Katya asks, interested. Ice nods.

“Things!”

This is all very un-Ice like. You'd be worried, really, but right now you're more amused than anything else.

Small arms (especially those being TESTED) are always relevant. And shiny. And new. And useful to pilots. (unlike museum tanks, which, though cool, are not directly useful, and are all gonna be old)

[x] Small arms, huh? Should be interesting.

“Small arms, huh?” You say with a shrug. “Yeah, could be interesting.”

You're directed to the base test armory by an MP- after he checks your ID. Katya, wisely, is quiet during the whole thing, but it's about all Ice can do to sit still.

You're met by an witch and a marine at the door to the building. Ice runs up and hugs the woman, while the marine watches with a bemused smile.

“Everyone, this is my good friend, Bethany Cortell.” Ice says, turning around to face your little group again. “She and I went through the academy together. Beth, this is Lieutenant commander Frank Bishop, His RIO, Lieutenant Samantha Wells, and Katya Litvyak.”

“N-Nice to meet you all.” Bethany says. “Come on inside, we've got some things for you all.”

Inside, the armory is well kept, and seems more like a lab than an actual armory. Bethany and the marine quickly lead you to a back room, where about a dozen exotic looking weapons are stored. Bethany turns back to your group.

“These were all designed to meet various DoD contracts and failed. We've been working on them since then, mostly tweaking them for use by witches.” She says. Ice looks positively giddy.

“We've been holding onto them for a while, and when Tabitha called, I knew we had to give 'em up.” She smiles. “but we don't mind. I won't bore you with the technical details, but there's some interesting things in there.”

Merlin nudges you, pointing to one ancient looking rifle. “Is that a BAR?”

Then the shoulder pad would be sideways. Enjoy your dislocated shoulder and/or shattered collarbone.

Also, what was that gun that suffered from uncontrollable autofire, dumping the entire magazine down the barrel if you so much as touched the trigger?
>>
Bethany overhears and smiles. “It's a modification of the BAR, yes. One-off production, they were looking at introducing it, but it and it's ammunition were too heavy for infantry use. We've lightened it up some, but it's pretty much just a show piece- no witch wants to carry it for long.”

Katya smiles impishly. “Maybe you have just not found the right witch?” She says. Bethany laughs.

“Maybe not. Maybe you'd like to give it a try, Miss Litvyak?”

Katya's ears and tail emerge with the muted pop you've long associated with the use of magic, and she hefts the heavy-looking weapon with ease, a feral grin splitting her face. “You have a range here?”

The marine nods, admiring her. “This way, ma'am.” he says. “It's indoor, 200 yards, but it's not bad.”

The two of them start to leave, while Ice acts like a child in a candy store.

[x] Have Merlin watch one, you'll watch the other. (Merlin goes with Katya)

“Hey, uh, Merlin. Mind going with Katya and making sure she doesn't get too carried away? I'm going to stay here with the boss.” You say, thanking all the gods that Merlin isn't a striker witch and isn't fascinated by guns as much as these two are.

She looks up at you, and nods. “Ok Frank! Don't go anywhere without me!” she says, then runs off to join Katya and the marine at the range.

Meanwhile, Ice seems to have acquired some modified M-14 with a collapsing stock and new metal furniture. She looks at Bethany. “what's this? You're replacing my gorgeous wood with this ugly synthetic crap? This isn't made by Mattel, is it?”

Bethany laughs. “Hardly. That's the XM-14EBR. Rock island arsenal thought them up- they're designed to be issued to one or two guys in a squad as designated marksmen. That one's modified for witches- we strengthened the barrel some and added improved sling mounts.” She says.

The roar of automatic gunfire drifts to you as Katya begins playing with the modified BAR. Ice frowns.

“So, why a BAR anyway? The 240's pretty much a belt fed one anyhow.” she says, cradling the EBR like a child. Bethany laughs again.

“We did other work to that one. It's re-chambered for .405 Winchester- the .400-06 wildcat. We nicknamed it 'big medicine' around here. We honestly don't think it'll be that effective without magic, to tell the truth. The bullets are just too slow, really.” She says, looking over her shoulder at the door. “With magic? I can hit a target drone no problem.”

“What's that?” You ask, pointing to a futuristic looking Weapon. Bethany turns and looks at it.

“Ah. The Pancor Jackhammer. 12 gauge automatic shotgun. The Navy and coast guard were considering it for their shipboard needs, but it's been tied up. That one's pretty much stock, really, we haven't modified it at all.” She says.

She looks at Ice. “We've got most of them ready to go, though the one miss Litvyak is using is one of a kind, so it's not packaged up... as you can tell. But we're on a schedule here, and...”

[x] “What are the rest of the girls getting?”

“So boss, what are we getting Maverick and Goose?” You say, idly turning over some bullpup rifle in your hands. Hardly compares to the guns on your jet.

Ice looks at you. “That's Maverick's” she says, pointing to the rifle you're holding.

Bethany chuckles. “Steyr ACR. Good rifle, but not good enough for the army. We've done some work with Steyr on it, that one's probably as good as the design can get.” She says.

“And Goose?” you ask. Ice smiles, pointing to a weapon that looks for all the world like the miniguns used by Rand and Rudel.

“XM-214 microgun.” Bethany explains. “They designed it to provide the smallest possible weapon with very high rates of fire. Fires the same 5.56 round as the M-16, but we've worked on it some, mostly to make it lighter. It's probably the biggest pain in the ass we have.” She smiles sheepishly.

“It is?” You can see why- it looks plenty heavy, and magic aside, witches are like infantry- they don't like carrying anything stupid.

“We had to re-design it to work with general strikers. The gun we have for A-10s is built specifically with that striker in mind, so there's a lot of support for it. This gun.” She pats it. “Wasn't built for a specific striker, so we had to improvise. It'll siphon some energy off sheilds when it's used to help control recoil, but we've limited that as much as possible, so it should be a fairly minor difference.”

“Man,” you say, replacing the rifle back on the wall. “I almost feel left out.”

Ice looks at you like you're crazy. “Oh, sure, Mr. I-just-got-the-best-jet-in-the-known-world.”

You have to laugh at the expression on her face.

Ice sighs, and with one last longing look at the EBR, turns to follow you to the range.

Inside, Merlin's making a face and rubbing her shoulder, while katya is watching the Marine show her how to clean the big rifle.

You grin at Merlin. “You try and shoot it?” You ask. She whips around at the sound of your voice and smiles.

“Yeah!” She says. “But I think I'll stick to our jet's guns.”

You laugh. “Fair enough. You two ready to go?” You ask.

Merlin nods, and Katya looks over at you. “I am, yes. Let me make sure they load this into our plane, though.” she says. Then smiles herself. “This is an excellent weapon.” She declares.

The ride into town takes about an hour, and you walk around for a few minutes, getting some odd looks- probably more for your companions than anything else, you're sure. Turns out, there's a well-regarded book store nearby, and upon entering, you're hit by the tell-tale smell of old books. The place is a lot larger than you'd thought it would be, and the shelves are full to brusting with all kinds of things.

Katya, for her part, looks like she's in heaven. Merlin, meanwhile, makes a beeline for the nonfiction section, after making you promise not to go anywhere. Ice follows her at a more leisurely pace, headed to the military history.

The store looks to have every kind of book about- where do you want to go? Maybe find a few presents? You know Slider digs western novels, and Goose loves fantasy novels- she's always got a dragonlance book nearby. Maverick doesn't seem to read much, making her kind of stand out in that regard, and you're not sure what she'd like anyway. Romance novels, maybe?

[x] Goose needs more books!
[x] Merlin said she liked those robotech novels, maybe we could get her some more of those?

You end up browsing the fiction section. While you're not quite the fan of Dragonlance that Goose is, you're pretty familiar with fantasy. You end up locating quite a few books you think she'll like- and if not, hey, the shelves back home are empty anyway. Merlin's books are in the same relative area- you end up buying the robotech series up to book #11, which is all the farther they seem to go. Maybe the rest are just out of stock? You also grab her some comic book about giant robots in space- gundam? Sounds silly, but maybe she'll like it. And just for kicks, you buy her a few Battletech books- whatever those are. Giant robots all kind of look the same to you.

You're startled when Merlin comes to find you. “Frank, it's almost two.” she says. “We really need to head back.”

She's right, of course. Ice and Katya are waiting by the checkout lane for you, and you manage to pay without too much trouble- sneaking the witch's books onto your own bill. You're actually glad you've let the combat pay pile up- and you're pretty sure you're fairly close to broke again, now.

The trip back to the army airfield takes almost an hour, and you're almost worried your flight to DC is going to take longer, but you luck out and manage to catch an excellent landing window at Langley.

Nixon's waiting for you on the ground, already dressed in his own blues. His ribbons, you notice, are very, very damned impressive, even for someone who's practically a hero figure in flight school.

“You kids have fun?” He asks with a smile on his face.

Nixon nods. Then dismisses you, promising to oversee the loading of your various goodies into a C-141 that's parked in your hangar- apparently, the flight from Colorado arrived while you were out.

The trip back to the hotel is fairly quick- most of the traffic really hasn't started yet, though rush hour could make the job more difficult.

Merlin, predictably, showers first, but you take longer, shaving again to clear the day's stubble growth which, while limited, isn't something you feel comfortable meeting the president with. After that, you have to help Merlin with her blues- particularly her ribbons, which are all out of order and take a few minutes. Thankfully, you have no such issues- your dad arranged yours and you're pretty positive they're book-perfect.

Ice is wearing the 'witch' blues- which feature a skirt that's cut slightly higher up than the one usually worn, her own officer's cap carried smartly under one arm. She smiles at you as you lock the door to your hotel room behind you.

Katya, meanwhile, has a long black evening gown, adorned with a simple, war-era soviet pin. While it's not strictly military, she wears it extremely well. You almost catch yourself starting a few times.

As you exit the hotel, a familiar voice calls from a limo on the road.

“Commander Bishop!” Georgette yells, waving at you. “Do you want to ride with us?”

[] Never turn down a limo ride. “Sure!”

[x] Never turn down a limo ride. “Sure!”

Never being one to turn down a ride in a limo, you let your driver take the night off. He grins and rushes to get away before you can change your mind- pulling out almost before you're in the limo.

“Fancy meeting you here, commander.” Mack says, his own blues as immaculately kept as yours, his Medal of Honor around his neck. You shake his hand after offering a salute, quickly reading his ribbons, hanging up on a few you don't recognize. He reads your expression with a slight chuckle.

“Croix de guierre.” He says, looking down at the ribbon with a grin.

Georgette smiles at the mention of the medal.

“So, commander,” she says. “Who are these lovely young ladies with you?”

“Oh, Sorry ma'am.” You answer, startled. “That's Commander Tabatha Kazinski, my commanding officer. The one in the gown is Katya Litvyak, and this short one here,” you jostle Merlin with an elbow “Is Lieutenant Samantha Wells, my radar intercept officer.”

Shaking hands is kind of hard in a moving limo, so no one tries. “Ah, miss Litvyak!” Georgette says. “I met your grandmother, years ago. How is she?”

Katya smiles sadly. “I do not know.” she says, causing Georgette's smile to fall. “I have not been able to see her in years.”

Katya brightens the mood quickly, though. “Thank you for the book! It was excellent.”

Georgette smiles again. “I'm glad to hear it.” She says. “Our children, they're the ones who pushed us to publish it.”

Katya grins. “I liked the inscription more. Fairy tales do come true.” She says it to Georgette, but she's looking at you.

Admiral mackintosh grins. “So how's Alaska, Commander Bishop?”

[] “Cold and wet, sir. Call me Frank.”
[] “Not too bad, plenty of things to do and our housing is very nice. Uh, hey, what was in that book, anyway?”
[] “Boring, sir. Can't wait to get back to sea.”

They're related.

Nah, that's the Legion d'Honorre or however it's spelled. The Croix de Gueirre they hand out for pretty much any valorous military act related to France, be it to their own forces or those of an allied nation.

Georgette pinned one on Mack's chest for pulling her out of the drink, I'm pretty sure.

We need a drawfriend to depict them both naked in the slow whipping each other with birch branches after emerging from the sauna.
