I've got plans for more stuff, but I haven't written any of it down yet. XCOM's taking up too much of my time for that.

I'm back. Sorry about that guys x-X STORY TIME!

Things were hard for that winter, terribly hard. The repairs to the castle, even to a few rooms, saved dozens of lives. But there are bones burried in the walls, in the floors, in the grounds outside in the courtyard. Around 2000 people died that winter, from exposure, from the arrows in the forest, from the hunger, and from just plain old violence and sucide. I still haven't told my children what is in the northern mounds. They'll find out in a few years, or maybe they still know, but at least 4 corpses under the first, and smallest, mound are my fault... I do not like to dwell on it, except for the brandy I pour out on it each year on the aniversary of our arrival (Theo and the others liked that sort of thing, even if I've never had a taste for drink).
As we made repairs to the structures, things slowly got better, fewer deaths from exposure, but deaths from venturing into the forest, or hunger (not thirst thankfully, snow is clean here, and it is easy to melt) remained high. It wasn't until a month or two before the spring melt when things finally began to look up. The Felim tribe arrived, and gave us food and medicine, surprised by how we accepted them immediately. Turns out, humans around this place were none too friendly towards nonhumans. I wonder if it had to do with the Elven problem?
>>
>>21437789
While many of the people in our happy little family of elgen/tg/entlemen were estastic over the arival, and I mean viscerally so, I myself was still too depressed. I worked with the Felim, learned more archery from them, more to have something to take my mind off my dead computer and the even deader textfiles within it, as well as my family, and the deaths. More than once I seriously considered taking one of the knives that had belonged to the dead and simply slitting my throat... I never did it though. And I couldn't be happier that I didn't. See, as we began expanding, now with Felim help. Eventually we cleared the rubble away from the catacomb's entrance, a labrynthine set of tunnels that had once served duty not only as a burial ground for important officers of the fort, but as storage for food, water, and weaponry. Already we have found the ancient cistern, still full of perfectly clean water, and have begun constructing a well over it in the central courtyard.

I now threw myself into exploring the catacombs, armed with little more than the hammer and chissel I had made with the help of the Felim as we got the forges set up. Finally, I found a place right on the edge of the catacombs, a cave we had apparently missed that opened up to the west and south by about a kilometer, I made a mental note to tell the Council of GMs about this, it was an easily fixed hole in our defensese. As I walked into the cavern, I saw that it was beginning to be dusk outside, and a trick of water from outside was rushing in. Apparently this was one of the routes that fed the underground cistern.
>>
>>21437794
I got no further in my thoughts as something covered the light and smacked right into me! I landed roughly in the wet silty ground, my hammer and chisel launched out of my reach as I felt a humanoid form straddling me. It was becoming pitch black outside, the sun was setting behind a hill and all I could see was this humanoid form with a pair of batwings instead of arms. I quickly found out, simply from the feel of her body, that it was a she, as she pressed herself against me, and her tongue pressed against my face. I was spluttering and trying to move away, pushing against her, she laughed and pushed back, her voice was oldly lyrical, not in the same way a Harpy's is, rather in the same way techno or trance music's background hum can be.

This was my first encounter with Batfolk. Contrary to popular belief, bats do not have worse eyesight than other mammals, they can see about as well as humans can, this includes, however, in the dark. Bats are nocternal, as are Batfolk, and their voices, a humming purr against the background noise when they are in large groups. The one who tackled me that evening was named Mikela, and she taught me even more. Because Batfolk are unable to see in the dark, and they are most active at night, their voices give them echolocation as normal bats. But they also use every other sense beyond sight, even at day time, due to the weakness of their eyes towards bright light, especially day light. Taste, touche, sound, smell, all are incredibly important to them culturally, much more than sight, they tend to be a very... friendly, people because of this. I know it caused some problems early on with us otherworlders misinterpretting what, to us, would be affection, and to them, is merely politeness, a method of exchanging information in a world where to open one's eyes is to invite pain.
>>
>>21437811
They also, outside of /tg/ at least where many have begun to settle, are nomadic. They wear little in the way of clothing, and either travel fast and light, much as harpies do, or hibernate in caverns during the winter. Mikela's colony, in fact, had been sheltering in the catacombs, one of the more isolated caverns connected to the Catacombs only by this chamber, and she had been amongst the first to wake up. This leads to their lack of substantial clothing... Mikela, for example, wore little more than a loincloth and breastband at the time of our meeting.

After some minutes of panicking and flailing and being flailed at by Mikela who honestly thought it was HILARIOUS (that girl, sometimes... oh never mind). We began to talk, and exchange information. Her Colony hadn't actually met with humans in a while, their leader had seen enough of them back in his youth and deliberately hugged the edges of their territories while migrating (apparently her colony was only 15 or so members strong, as I found out soon after), she herself had only reached majority the year before last, and hadn't ever seen a human before, at least up close, which was in part her reason for the incredibly active reception she gave me.
>>
>>21437815
That was how I first met the girl who was to be my first Waifu, but that was some time later.
[End Part 2, coming next? More Mikela and the counter attack against the Elves]

Part 3
From the Journal of Hetros Jistin.

Mikela was one of the most curious people I had met, and ontop of that, as many of the Felim were, far higher up on the sexiness scale than many human girls back home. I notice I wrote that she wore a breast band in the previous part of this journal. This was not, entirely, accurate. While batfolk have very strong and dextrous toes, and the same applies to the thumb claws on their wings, not to mention their astonishing degree of flexibility (by no means super human, but still... of course, that might just have been Mikela, but given the degree of helpfulness her colony and other batfolk have been in construction, surveying, and sounding, I think it is probably that the trait holds for most of her race), the ability to pull something behind he back and pull it tight was simply not possible, especially given the membranes that ran between her torso and upper arms.
>>
>>21437820
No, as I found out, sitting up and trying to push the batgirl off of myself, what she was actually wearing was a circular piece of rough cloth with a hole cut through the center for her head. The pattern, while worn, I would learn was actually a kind of map of "shapes" the raised bumps and knots in the cloth acting as a simulation of key landmarks on the nomadic route her colony took. Of course, I didn't find this out for a little while, I was a bit too occupied with the feel of soft, excited, female flesh against my hands. It took me a bit to figure out was going on, a stream of questions pouring out of her about who I was, where I'd come from, why I was in her colony's cave, were I with the others above ground she could hear through the stone? Was I human? An Elf? A Demon? Something else? I swear, people have called me a master of the "wall of words" when they get me going but I am -nothing- compared to my dear Mikela when she is interested in something.
>>
>>21437848
She seemed oblivious to my attempts to gently scootch her off my lap as I tried to answer her questions, always having each answer met with at least three more questions. It wasn't, at least at this point, her teasing me or being deliberately obtuse, she just simply didn't make the connection between physical contact and uncomfortablness. It wasn't until I mentioned that the soggy silt floor was rather uncomfortable that she hushed up for a moment and hurridly got up, helping me up as well, his thumb claws hooking into my dirtied, still intact, polyester and plastic winter coat and helping me to stand, this time her stream of words along the lines of an apology. When I finally was up, and dusted off, I managed to ask her if she'd mind us going to someplace brighter, her initial response, at that, was reluctance, and it was here I found out about their weakness to light, though, as my own children and other "daylight colonies" attest, it is a matter of acclimitation, not nature for bats. Finally, I got her to agree to come back towards the more well lit parts of the catacombs, that edged onto this cavern, so that I could see and she wouldn't be too uncomforted by the lights. My own torch, part of what had notified her to my presence in the cavern initially, had guttered out in the puddles of the cavern, and I was in no condition to find it in this murk, nor was I really interested in finding it at this point.
>>
>>21437853
Once we got back to the half light of the stone hallway that lead to the primary catacombs, I could actually see Mikela properly. A girl of dark, chocolately complexion, and even darker, black hair which ran down her neck in what I could only call a mane, and as I found out later, it actually was, the ends of her hair coming back around her neck where it met her shoulders to form a ruff of sorts. Her bangs came down over her eyes, and her hair was, while not tangled, certainly a case of severe bedhead, I guess that's what happens after you sleep for 3 or 4 months at a stretch when you family group can't migrate to warmer climates quickly enough. The full state of her undress hit me at that point, feeling is one thing, but unlike batfolk, we humans are primarily creatures of sight and color, and seeing her like that in the half light made me barely able to speak. When I finally found my tongue again, and she, who while not able to see me could quite probably hear the sudden rise in my pulse, just sat there smiling at me, the first time she'd been silent for any stretch of time since I had met her barely 15 minutes before.
>>
>>21437877

We spoke for a few hours at that point, and it turned out she was truly interested in sticking around, helping rebuild. Over the next few days, after a sticky incident involving her father and one of the other males almost slitting my throat in terror because of "HUMAN!" and sending them to meet with Sir Giovanni and the other DMs on the council, it turned out that there was NO ONE more suited than Mikela and the other interested members of her race for not only mapping out the countryside (their echolocation giving them unparallel abilities in marking distance and positioning, especially when working in concert), but in mapping and repairing Castle Waifu as it had come to be known at that point. Where entire sections of structural weakness and decay endangered the structure, especially given the increase in traffic, the Batfolk, and especially Mikela (Who I believe took to it with her usual ferve and interest due to the alieness of such structures to her experience), saved us months of work and probably dozens of injuries and/or deaths at the hands of the failing structure.
>>
>>21437884
As all of this occured, with repairs making actual headway for the first time in months between the Felim's expertise, materials, and craftsmen, and our manpower and modern engineering knowledge, that the famous speech where one crazy gentleman said those famous words "I want to rub elf ears". I, at the time, had not been in the courtyard during this speech, I was passed out in my new room in the catacombs just outside that hallway that Mikela and I had first really spoken in, having moved down there to stick close to the one real friend I had made since, well, since the incident with my last hunting trip. My sleep schedual was topsy turvy at the time given that I was working so closely with Mikela's colony, which meant that I often went to bed shortly before noon, and got up sometime around 8 in the evening. I'd have killed for my aderall at that point, but saddly, it was back in the old world.
>>
>>21437915
In any case, I found out about the plans the following evening, as I awoke and found something to eat in the kitchens which were mercifully close to the catacombs entrance. The thoughts of the coming battle terrified me, and while I was willing to help train even more people in using the bow (and now, in using a hammer, though frankly, I was learning more from the old Felim warrior and was simply picking it up faster due to the fact I worked with hammer or sledge all day long now, so I got accelerated to assistant tutor or something). At the same time, I was terrified of the battle, I didn't want to face those arrows again, not like last time, not to hear those dull thunks... that helplessness again. The only person I told at the time was Mikela, who didn't respond. I'd finally gotten over my aversion to the physical closeness she reveled in (and she had yet to even really understand the idea of personal space as a thing that existed -all the time-). But frankly, it was nice to snuggle for comfort rather than for warmth, and the company was far more enjoyable ontop of that compared to that from the winter (not many people mention that, but frankly, far more of us would have frozen to death that first winter than had if not for the fact that we were all huddled together under blankets sewn from the dead's clothing around the fires). It helped, though it didn't assuage my cowardice... which was nearly overpowering the day we marched out.

[End of Part 3. Next time, the battle]

I'm still here and lurking but I'd like to make some corrections since you seemed to have missed some of my stories on the Gnomish holds.

Could I get a date on the University opening then?

Might have to change it to some sort of Career Festival or "World" Exhibition. Would an opening of student exchange for more...exotic students be a milestone date? As in brimstone and ambrosia sort of exotic?

Now, now, no need to be prejudiced. I'm sure that ALL are welcome, eh?

>Regardless, they have until the inaugural winter semester starts on the 16th of Sun’s Dusk [3 A.A.] to get everything squared away. The semester will run through until a few days after Savior’s Day. The second semester in the year will probably start sometime around Midyear and end before Hearthfire.

Hopefully my the headmaster would be rescued before then so he can attend the opening ceremony and deliver a speech. I'm holding back on writing until the rescue takes place.

A "World Fair" style event sounds lovely. Could tie in with the opening of a new museum near there.

Part 4
From the Journals of Hetros Jistin

I still have nightmares of this day...

I do not like to speak about the battle. I remember feeling sick, numb, the entire former night. It was the first night that me and Mikela slept together, not sex (though I suspect that if I had asked her then and there she would have been more than happy to oblige, I was oblivious at that point, and still too ridden with guilt to think that such a lovely, scantily clad figure could be enamored with me), just snuggling. I came from a very snuggly family, I had been well into my teens before I stopped snuggling with my parents early some mornings. College life, and here especially, had been a kind of culture shock, where even a handshake was something that was avoided mostly, and hugging someone was considered strange in the big city, where back in Louisiana, while out of place, was certainly not unwelcome amongst close acquaintances, whatever their gender. While else where, and here too it felt until very recently, touch was almost taboo. Either way, that night, I just needed a warm body besides mine, and Mikela, I like to think, understood that, even if she'd have liked it to go further (I only found out a week or two later how much she had)

I will not speak much on the trip there. I took bow, and arrow, and the iron chisels and hammer I used in my trade... most of which were ruined by the end of that day. I wore crude leather armor under my blue coat, and left by Bowler behind with Mikela. The Chironen did not, as a rule, use weapons. It would be the following year that we finally were able to make claw-boots for them that were light enough for them to use properly. Chironen depended on numbers, stealth, and ambush to commit banditry, and even then it was a last resort. In an armed battle, tribal Chironen were worse than useless unless it was night time, all the same, a few came with us, acting as scouts, and withdrawing before the battle began.

When we finally arrived at the village, a crowd of forces, something like 250 across, and 40 or so deep, I remember the looks on the Elves faces, momentary shock. I wasn't in the first line of attack, I was in the 3rd or 2nd row, but I still remember. There was a moment, just a moment, of doubt on their faces. They had not expected better than a thousand people to attack them, and certainly not people armed even as crudely as we were, with spears, clubs, and even the occasional "real" weapon, and many, many bows. Almost a full 3/4s of our force had at least short bows, many of us had much more. The moment we entered the clearing, we went into our practiced positions, shield bearers at the front, forming a defensive wall.
>>
>>21443200
Our crude shields did little good, elvish arrows punched through them like paper, but they did give us time to initiate the first part of the plan. Something like 800 arrows lept into the air as we roared defiance, and with only 300 elven warriors, no matter how well skilled they were, that was going to cause some damage. There was no accuracy, no aiming. We simply shot into the air, wanting our arrows to land in the general area of the Elves, knowing that it was pure numbers, not accuracy, that would win this for us, in any aspect. Many of the elves were at least wounded, or bruised, by the impacts of stone headed arrows slamming into them in a deadly hail, if not outright killed. I think we must have killed at least two or three of their officers, because their line immediately began to break up in some areas, as they looked shell shocked.

From that point it was chaos. The vast majority of us dropped our bows, our shields, and took up whatever weapon we had chosen, wood spears, thick clubs or stone hammers, swords we had salvaged, or the tools of the trades we were learning. I will not write more on what happened during the battle, it was chaos. I killed people, and saw friends cut down. But, I think, something went our way. We killed many officers early on, and it wore on the Elves far more than it had on us... they began attacking one another, going berserk.
>>
>>21443225
Some people like to boast that they were the ones to set the first fires in that village... it's not true. It was the Elves themselves. Their lord had been at the back, and too proud and arrogant to leave, which might have saved the day for him, as he could have ordered wave after wave of peasants into us from the town (which had a population about equal to our own). He did not, and he was cut down, I don't even remember by who, I wasn't there when it happened.

No, the true horror of that day was to come. You have read that we killed all the men, young and old, and took the women. And this was in part true. The full truth is that we had little choice, and we did not save many of the women, maybe a full half of their number, others were killed by their own, maddened, people, others attacked us and had to be cut down. The village burned around us. The male elves were, by far, the most violent, even the children, though there were a few catatonic males, just as there were many catatonic females, shell shocked from witnessing the sudden, violent death of so many "Dominant" elves so quickly, especially their lord.

I am not proud of some of the things I did that day. I killed an elf woman with child as she was tearing off the face of a Felim warrior (I think he's still alive, a member of the Merchant Guard now), a chisel blow to cut the throat of a young boy, maybe of 12 years, who jumped on my back and began tearing at my hair as he bit at my throat. I didn't even realize what he was until my hand had moved.
>>
>>21443228
We managed to save some of them. Far more died in that massacre, some from our own forces, others from their own people, some we simply couldn't save from the spreading fires. I will not say what we did that day was noble, I know too many members of our community who still believe it was right to slaughter the male children, and advocated slaughtering the few male children and male elves (who had been catatonic at the time, and remained so for about a month, when they broke form it the children proved to be able to break out of it, the male adult was too indoctrinated, he left us, but didn't attack us as he did) who we managed to save

I still have nightmares of that day...

Short version, what did I miss?

>Short version, what did I miss?
Um...
I'm your new architect

I've been compiling racial data (need your input on dwarves by the way, Find me on the bells and chimes google doc)

I expanded enormously on the bat people who are now known as Chironen

I also expanded on Goblins and Kobolds and no body seems to mind the changes there...

I've been working on a timeline

I made a racial information page on 1d4chan since it was an empty link and I thought "why the fuck not" so any help filling it out/correcting what's there would be most appreciated.

We now know why the Elvish empire isn't crushing our little state but instead using other methods, which involves them not having the military power to divert away from their confrontation with Vampire Mongol Hordes to the east with mobile castles all Ravenloft style...

Giovanni is getting a magictech bionic arm.

I think that's everything?
>>
>>21443306
Trying to fit all the stories for each named writer is a pretty insane task.
>>
>>21443836
yep, I apologize if I missed anyone or left them out.

OH! Witch gave us a lot of information on how runes and sensory magic works too.
>>
Not sure if we talked about it in the other thread or in the google docs or what, so bringing it back up here.

Currency? I has an idea for a story involving making 1 ounce gold coins, stockpiling such things through taxes and adventuring to keep a reserve to control our own markets for inflation and depreciation and all that.

We'd use the GP, and we'd maintain currency levels so that for every 1 gp on the market, there would be 10 sp and 100 cp, thus maintaining something like parity. Shop keepers would keep scales in their shops so any form of currency could be weighted.

I'd suggest strict, strict, strict, STRICT laws against watering down the currency.

That or we say "screw it" and make currency paper based, but we'd need paper mills for that :S and those are opposite of healthy for the environment.

Metal money is probably the most convenient, and also certainly already in use. Our coinage simply needs to be about the same size as current coins, for easy exchange.
>>
>>21447151
I always assumed we used everyone else's currency.
>>
>>21447224
Is it round?

Will it come in different denominations or just G, S, C.

What will be the funny little pictures?

Do we even have a mint to prevent forgery?

Do we even count as a sovereign nation if we don't have our own coinage?
>>
>>21444504
It might just be easier to make it a google doc and have everyone write their own stuff into it.
>>
>>21447241
That's probably the case, but we may also create our own mint at some point after we have a coin stamp and shit tons of gold to make said coins.

mid 3 AA i showed TeeGee its first dragon
mid-late 4 AA (month after the ork attack) i set up a trade agreement for elemental ice from the frozen wastes and started bringing back waste goats
late 7 AA i had TeeGee's first encounter with a fallen/corrupted angel

also, what is this sky city incident in mid 8 AA? i thought there had only been two writings on the sky city so far
>>
>>21442790
Actually I thought we decided that the Late 7AA was some sort of World Fair that was set up to celebrate a new museum/exchange student programs (with or with not angels and demons).

And as for the Cloak and Dagger Debacle, no retaliatory moves were set up as no group came forward to claim it. Security was tightened after that, though.
>>
>>21447465
I think it's referring to when Gearheart became pregnant.
>>
>>21447241
I cannot tell you how stupid this would be. The level of stupidity involved would be catastrophic.

Go read the latest few chapters of "My Demon-Lord" (I think is the title, lots of economics and stuff). Or around chapter 60-80ish of Mag. When you use another nation's currency, you place your economy in their hands.

They are able to say "Our currency is no longer worth what it was yesterday, so you just have a massive loss economically speaking. What was only 1 coin yesterday, is now 3 coins today."

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever allow another nation to control your currency, ever.

The simplest way to control our currency, and to allow us to use any other form of currency, is to say, universally, "this coin here? This is 1 ounce of gold, exactly. It is worth exactly as much as 1 ounce of gold, no more, no less" then your central government keeps a stockpile of gold and other valuables to maintain the value.

>>21447254
I'd say GP, SC, and CP (maybe PP) would be the best.

Round? Maybe, probably with a hole drilled in it too.

Mints can be built. No reason for us not to have one. It's a bunch of molds and furnaces

And I think I answered that last part :>

Yes, we'd be a sovereign nation. Would we have ANY bark behind our bite? No.
>>
>>21447681
>Or around chapter 60-80ish of Magi

Fixed
>>
>>21447681
When you have the gold to back up a currency, such things become less of a problem.

Besides, assuming another nation wanted to do that, they'd only be hurting themselves because inflation would hurt them and their less affluent people than it would us.

The only issue I could see arising would be if the various nations we trade with used differing coin sizes, putting different values on different nation's coins.
>>
>>21447784
It actually IS an issue if they do something like, say,

"All coins we previously used will be illegal to use in a month or two. But we are releasing a new coin that you can use, that is worth 10-18 of the old coins and we are allowing people to purchase" or something.

Trust me, economic security is dependent upon having your own currency. We circumvent the problem MOSTLY by making it so OUR coinage is -always- 1 ounce of gold, or silver, or copper.

And by hanging anybody who tries to counterfeit our coins by gilding lead or something.

That way, you measure a coin. If it's gold? Doesn't matter what size. It's worth as many of our coins as it's weight in ounces.

we could call them aunces (AU: Gold)
>>
>>21447910
>>21447784
If that's the case, how valuable would be 1 gold coin?

Enough to feed a man for a day? A family for a week?
A year's wages to a farmer? A weeks takings for a merchant?
Pocket change to a noble?
Gold coin donations would be seen as trifling or as generous?
What is the purchasing power that we're dealing with here?
>>
>>21447910
As again, they'd be screwing themselves over more. We do have more than 1 trading partner, after all.

>>21447957
If we're going to bother going as far down as copper coins, I'd assume a gold piece would be pretty valuable. We could go on the scale used in the Caribbean where 2 silver pieces would buy a cow, but that would require some adjustments to the scaling since 10 pieces of eight was worth a bit more than a doubloon...this will require a bit more research.
>>

A gold coin should represent enough food to feed an entire family for X number of days, clothing for X number of people (less people=better/finer clothing), or enough building material to make a small semi-permanent shelter for X people (a lean-to or shed style housing); or labor equivalent to said objects.

I'd have to know if the rest of the world functioned on a silver or gold standard to get more exact.

The ceiling was a stained wood. I sat up, looking around the darkened room. The bed, a pile of furs and blankets on a mattress, was far too comfy to want to leave today. I slipped away.
I began my work routine, donning warm clothing. It was important to stay insulated while it was still winter, so I got woolen clothes that fit under my armor. I took a good look at the plates and mail. The pauldrons still made me feel official and powerful, like an Old Realm Space Marine. They weren't as oversized, though, thank goodness. Next, supplies. I searched through my home, slightly cluttered, yet cozy. Nonperishable food, flint, water, map, torch, everything all there and now in a satchel. Lastly, arms. I grabbed my sword from the wall. A man's was the last friend he would ever have. It slipped onto my waist, the shield on my back. I grabbed my utility knife and tied it to my belt.
Next, just one thing left to do. I spread a piece of paper onto the table. How to sum this up. A dangerous journey, that wasn't guaranteed to be successful in any way, and my mental state in question, this was difficult to write.
>Gone on business. Back in a week!

Did a bit of exhaustive research(aka google) and it looks like the spanish gold coins, weighing in at an ounce of gold were worth 16 of the silver coins. So assuming we adopt that scale, a gold piece would buy 8 cows.

Then again, our introduction of additional wealth in the form of looted treasures and coins could be a source of inflation, so there's always that to consider.

Sera was still sleeping on the bed, clutching at a cluster of blankets. Carefully, I leaned down, and put my hand on her head. She was breathing softly.
>Remember what you're coming home to, Alaric

The door shut behind me. A fresh layer of snow had fallen the previous night, reflecting the rising sun. Waifu Town felt lonely as I walked towards its edge, which quickly gave way to a dense forest.
“Tch... On the road again.”

Three days of walking passed. No thinking, no singing, not even anxiety was present. I just walked. When I was hungry, I ate. When I was tired, I built a fire and chewed coca leaves. I may have been paranoia, but sleep was too risky out in the open; I slept lightly for this reason, and for only a few hours at a time. I also had to constantly unfreeze my water, to my dismay.

The further I came to my goal, the darker the forest became. Trees became gray and gnarled, and a layer of mist wrapped around my ankles. The forest was eerily quiet, silent as the grave by the time I reached the door.

It was in worse condition than when I first saw it. It had quickly rotted, giving way to thick, warm red vines that sprawled from inside.

“Well that's just fucking dandy.” I pried the door open; it fell off its hinges and slammed to the ground. The smell of pungent, raw meat poured out from the cave. The air inside grew warm and damp as I ventured down the stairs. A pulsating sensation came from all sides by the time I reached the bottom. Holding my shield in front of me, torch raised, I inched forward. The vines coated the walls an inch thick on all sides.

Unfortunately, I found out why in the central chamber.
>>
>>21448883
Not really. You have to remember a significant amount of wealth recovered from those places is consumed in the creation of magical items - runes, especially, but also basic items of value and regalia. It also exists as created treasure before hand, which means we're actually reintroducing lost wealth rather than creating nonexistent wealth; since much of that treasure is actually goods and material rather than only coinage, it becomes trade goods fairly easily.

A large, pulsating heart stood in the center; it gave off an eerie glow, revealing luminescent sacs containing the abominations, all lining the center. I had found what I was looking for.
“So, I guess you're the guy who's been causing me problems these past few months?” The vines weren't vines, but veins and arteries, and several began to pry themselves from the ground.
“So, looks like the boss for this area was a tentacle monster all along. How ironic.” I dashed forward, for a red artery to grab me by the ankle, pulling upwards. Instinctively, I slashed out, cutting it as I launched upwards. Turning in the air, I saw my landing point, the heart itself.

I hit with a heavy thud, snugly next to an aorta. Reaching out, I swung down, attempting to chop the side of the heart. It was to little effect, and a vein swung in, hitting like a baseball bat.

I landed, rolled on the ground, then pushed myself up with the sword, slowly. The shield was no use; I tossed it to the side.
“Blinding lightning throw!” I tossed the sword like a spear, piercing the beast. The greasy black bile I was too familiar with spewed out in a mist, and its limbs flew about.
“Falcon kick!” I aimed for the pommel, driving the sword in further, only to get knocked back again by a tentacle. The sword followed suit, and I grasped it, clutching my stomach as I was winded. Standing straight, I held the sword with both hands, to my right side, blade up and left foot forward. With a shake of the head I charged again, blocking a swing from my right. The artery wrapped around, getting my right arm and torso wrapped. Quickly, I reached down to grab my knife, and plunged it into the opponent's appendage. As more fluid spilled out, it started to spasm and let go of me.
“Gotcha!” I place the knife in my mouth and charged forward, aiming a baseball bat swing at it. The blade caught with a thunk. A massive vein caught me in the back, knocking me against the oversized organ; I pushed away, pulling the sword with me. I brought the blade up, then down, then back around. Again and again I struck, bringing the sword down like a god's wrathful hammer. The beast soon fell limp and slumped to the side as black bile oozed from its ventricles. I took a few shaky steps back, then sat down, peeling off my helmet. The sacs sagged; no doubt this meant they were done for. And I, I was pretty well beaten.

“I win.” I shot a finger gun at it.
>What's that?
I looked down. A crack in the ground revealed something. It had grown around the pedestal; and was now pulling it over, revealing a crevice. Reaching down, I retrieved a small chest.
“I'll be taking this. Peace.” I carried it through the tunnel and up the stairs, into daylight. The lock was rusted to the point where it crumbled away. When it opened, a small hissing came out, and an arrow lazily slumped out onto the ground.
“...Aight.” I rifled through its contents, and saw the puzzle piece itself together. Drawings, notes, runes I couldn't read, and a few letters made sense of it. From what I could tell, the heart was the failed attempt to create life from nothing. It fueled the abominations, a bee-like hivemind in the rough shape of a man, but failed and abandoned. The creator left this. My presence, somehow, activated it. I can only guess I was constantly assaulted because the necromancer who made this was quite reclusive, and disliked prying eyes.
“These notes... are too dangerous for the world.” I said. I systematically tore every scrap, and scattered them to the wind.

“But I'm keeping this.” A long, severed artery was still tied to my ankle. I coiled it up, and strung it around my bag. Necromantic artery flesh would make a neat new item. Now was a good time for a nap, though. I felt around my body. Bruises everywhere, maybe a few broken ribs. My face was probably bleeding; my eye felt puffy. I was out of the woods now; I could get some sleep. But I wanted to sleep in my own bed.

Considering the different TYPES of Vampire lore from around the world, we could very well have vampire clans, tribes, covens, etc. with different attributes, traits, or powers.
So long as there isn't one that sparkles.
In that case, we exterminatus.

Let's not dunk it in pitch and call it grimdark, please? I'm all for vampires being dangerous, even predatory; but can we keep them charismatic and reasonable too?

OH GOD D: but, we're already 7 chapters into a story about Vampire Mongols with cool mist-shade things that suck out your bodily fluids as grotesque "final death" states from not having enough blood for too long, and moving around in big crazy castles that move inside of magic fog banks of "MindFuck" (where you enter the fog bank, and then you're inside the castle's grounds, but then you leave it, and you're a mile or two away from where you entered it because the fog bank has moved on).

Also Genghis Dracula. Elf Hater Supreme.

Classy vampires are totally an option. They're just super mobile, terrorize places until they give tribute, and possibly have skeletal bow horsemen or something.

Alright, I think we got vampires mostly sorted out, and we got the weird humanoid abominations I finished earlier.

Are there any more undead species we need to discuss, so we're all on the same page?
>>
>>21451734
Well we threw in things called "Shades"

The idea is that if a vampire goes without blood for too long, they go to sleep. Then if they continue to go without blood, they start to age, and eventually decay. Finally, when only a pile of dust and a single kernal of hatred filled with their hunger, it rises as a cloud of devouring mist. Sucking the bodily fluids out of anything that it touches. Only able to touch magical items or living flesh, killing it requires you to stab or shatter a piece of ancient bone the size of your palm (if you're lucky) or use one of the afformentioned materials to stab through it and kill it like anything else.

They're usually mindless and just hungering, easily controlled by other vampires or necromancers (in a Point and release, kind of way)

How does chivalry work for us exactly? It's not exactly covered in the code of Bro (which is mostly about how Waifu mechanics works). It doesn't cover (except, I guess, by implication) defending the weak, righting wrongs, etc.etc... so do we do it?

Also, I noticed around Thread 7 or 8 We got the D20 symbol as our Heraldry. If I might suggest, all good Heraldry has a catch phrase under it.
"Esse Eximius Ad Invicem"
Be Excellent To Each Other

Other possible phrases:
"Pro Coniuge"
For The Wife

"Prodigiosus Victoria"
(closest I could get to Critical Win)

unless this has already been covered and I just haven't gotten to it?

Reason I suggest "Esse Eximius Ad Invicem" is that, on this board, it is almost universally the first thing we ever read. Right there at the top. If It flowed better I'd also add in "Party On Dudes and Duddettes" which is, I think,

"Partis In Maribus et Mulieribus" but that's only if we translate "Party On" Literally, which would make it sound like nonsense in lation, so probably it would be more correct to write it as:
"Perseverant Ebria Maribus et Mulieribus"

So if we go on the first words on this forum, the full phrasing would be:

"Primus Esse Eximius Ad Invicem, Secundus Perseverant Ebria Maribus et Mulieribus"

But it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue :P But if we're going all heraldic >->

Three pixies were sitting on a rock. They were about five inches tall, and their wings were gossamer insectile things, each slightly different in design. Pixies do not wear clothing, save for the occasional belt or the garland or wreath. Seeing them meant you had to deal with them, unless you could hide before they saw you. Unfortunately, they were on a rock, and there were no bushes or trees nearby. So I walked over to see what they were discussing so heatedly.

There were three things on the rock circled by the pixies. A live salamander. A sweetcake, on a lace doily, not entirely fresh but still good. A bellflower stalk with the miniature purple bells attached and fresh. I was asked to determine who would receive each of the gifts left to them in turn. I asked each pixie three questions, each question different. To the cruel one, I gave the sweetcake, in hopes his temperament would sweeten. He gave me a blessing. To the uncaring one I gave the flowers, so that he might feel appreciated. He gave me a gift made up of a prophecy that was neither good, nor bad, but would certainly come to pass. To the kind one, I gave the salamander, that he might know a little bitterness in his life, for he would have to care for the salamander until it left to mate or grew old and died. He gave me a curse – a geas.

My eyes opened and I stared at the ceiling above me.

I was staring at whitewashed wood, sealed with pitch, and varnished beams. I wondered how they managed to make the cuts straight. Hand carved, sanded. Rasps. Hand worked to make a harder than normal roof. I could see the contours of the wood grain through the whitewashing. I remembered the dreams vividly. They had been more than dreams, and less. Visitations and dream gifts rang in my head still.

Hearing voices, I turned to look across the room. I was in the Harbinger's Hospital, and he was speaking quietly to one of his patients, a candle resting next to the cot the man was laying upon. Our eyes met, for a brief second, and then parted. I turned my attention back up to the ceiling, staring at it and putting thoughts of the Unseelie King out of my head. I knew his curse or blessing without being told, just as he knew of my curse and the blessing without being told. I could not tell what I was not asked, and he did not wish to speak of it. Fey magic did that.

There is a reason homosexuals used to be referred to as fey, even in the Old World.

Of course, that didn't really answer the question as to why I could see the boards in the ceiling in such detail when the only source of light was a small candle across the entirely of the building. Nor should I have been able to see the beds between us with such clarity, given that I had been looking into a light source. I turned, knowing what I would see, because I heard her heart beating and her slow breathing, smelled the warm musk of her presence. It wasn't overwhelming, just one more thing I noticed among many.

>>21463035
Medley was dozing in a chair next to me, her tail and ears twitching as she dreamed. I pushed the images and thoughts of dreams away, not ready to try and deal with that just yet. I watched her sleep for a long moment, and wondered what I had done to myself. She had warned me there would be side effects, unpredictable side effects, and that they might not all be mundane. The drugged sleep while I'd been poisoned had had side effects of its own, and those would eventually have to be dealt with. But for now, I took pleasure in the warm blankets and the fact that I could still breathe easily. It wouldn't last, and the pain was present, but I wasn't struggling for air.

Medley stirred and I watched her wake, her worried expression easing as she saw me awake and looking at her. She smiled and reached towards me....and then looked startled as I tracked her hand. “You can see me?” she asked softly.

“Yes. The candle light - “

“The candle is gone, Silver.”

I turned and looked at the hall, seeing that the Harbinger had left, and there was no light source. I could feel the clouds above and knew that the moon was not quite full yet. There were few windows and they were shuttered against the cold breezes of the evening. I turned and looked at Medley who was looking a little worried. “They called it spirit-sight, a long time ago. Seeing in the dark, hearing from afar, smelling water, reading the wind on your face....the leaves were once used in shamanic rituals, to see if the spirit world would accept a new shaman into it. If they lived, they had new, enchanted senses, spirit senses. They often had powerful visions. Even the ones who went mad still served as shamans and shamankhas. 'Touched by the spirits' as they were.” She laid her warm hand on my forehead, and I looked up at her, feeling so many things for this elderly Felim who had saved me from many things, including, now, death.

I took her hand in mind and kissed it softly, laying it against my cheek as I closed my eyes. There was nothing sexual in the gesture, not for me. She was more akin to a mother than my own mother had ever been. Her eyes swam, and she stroked my hair with her other hand, comforting me as the experiences took their toll and I started to cry. I was alive still, and even as much as it hurt, nearly dying had been painful and horrifying. “Oh, Rua'ha....” Runt-kitten, she'd called me when we'd first met, in the dead of winter in a broken castle. Sickly and weak but so eager to survive.

When I'd finished, she gave me a cloth, and I dried my tears and cleaned my nose; I let it drop to the bin next to the bed and blinked up at her, wondering if this is how the Felim saw things at night. “Where is the oni, the horned girl?” Medley smiled.

“Camped outside the hospital, waiting for you. She said she had to speak with you. She didn't say anything about leaving.” Medley smiled a little, as I looked away, unwilling to meet her gaze, though I knew she didn't disapprove of my preferences.

“No, she wouldn't,” I agreed, and the elder Felim looked confused. I sat up, slowly, my body still aching from the horrors I'd put it through. “I would like some water, please.” She gave me a ceramic cup and I sipped from it slowly, my stomach greedy for it but my body certainly not ready for too much at once.

“There is honeyed tea here, as well, Rua'ha. You'll need it to recover some of your strength.” I smiled and thanked her, accepting the tea gratefully. The strong tea and the honey assuaged my hunger a little, and eased the pain some as well. “What are you going to do about her?” There wasn't much need to ask who she meant.

“She's part of a prophecy that was made to me. I suspect....no, I know she has a similar prophecy. So, we'll see what she says. I think she'll be staying in TeeGee though.” I smiled wanly at Medley and she cupped my cheek in her hand, allowing me to lay my hand over hers. “I will be all right, Medley. You saved my life, twice over. Three times, if you count the Arrival.” I pulled the sheets aside and hugged her, feeling her warmth and her motherly love for the strange witch she'd deigned to take under her wing. When we separated I smiled at the sight of my traveling bag, and a set of clothing. The other clothing had undoubtedly been a ruin of blood and vomit. “Jaculye?” Medley nodded.

“She arrived and sat with you most of the day times. I made her go home several hours ago. I did not want you waking up and doing anything foolish.” I suspected it was more a case of her wanting to make sure I didn't wake up frothing at the mouth and possessed, but I was not going to tell her that. The Harbinger would have been able to cope, undoubtedly. As long as he didn't try to use the power he had inherited from the fey, he would be safe, as I understood such things.
>>
>>21463079
“Kind calls to kind as like calls to like.” At Medley's bemused expression I smiled. “Poetry from my childhood. Terrible stuff really.” Sitting on the edge of the bed, I folded and tied together a new loincloth. It was surprising how well the fundoshi caught on, especially among the women. It was a hell of a lot more comfortable than the hand sewn underwear tended to be. Then my trousers, adding my pouch and my knife to the belt. A long sleeved tunic and a heavy leather vest finished dressing, save for the fur lined boots Jaculye had brought me for Catmas. Leather bracers completed the look, though they were more to keep the sleeves closed and me warm than actually for protection.

“Oh, that reminds me. You weren't here for Catmas.” I dug out a well worn journal, and handed it to Medley.

She accepted it, and smiled, blushing just a little, and read the inscription. “That is not needful, Silver, I....” She trailed off, having expected a blank book. I watched her page through it, her eyes widening as she read the contents. “But this....this is priceless!”

Every bit of herb and mushroom and growing-lore, along with lore of venomous and poisonous creatures that could be medicinally useful, that I could glean from every creature I could find in the Wastes was contained in that book. I had illustrated it, and protected the pages of paper with onionskin parchment. The binding was carefully bound and glued, and the cover was sturdy leather, complete with a second case of oiled leather that would protect the book from inclement weather and petty abuse.

“Not priceless, but valuable. It is yours, but the lore inside should be spread as much as you can. It is the least I could manage.” It had been the labor of several years, and I'd let Olin make a copy. The Harbinger (whom I knew was just Harbinger, but I couldn't call him by any name safely), had consulted it a few times and I'd informed him of several things I'd left out for non-medical reasons. All medicines were poison, but not all poisons were medicine, so to speak. “The librarian has a copy, so the knowledge is relatively safe, as safe as TeeGee can be.” Which, in my opinion, wasn't very, but I've the gamer's pessimism.

I knew how fickle the Dice Gods can be.

“Thank you for coming to my aid yet again Medley. I'll be all right now. You should get back to your mate.” She smiled, unsurprised by my knowledge though she'd not yet told me. Further proof she knew more about the herbs than anyone else I'd gone to for help.

Offering me my staff, she walked me to the door. “I take care of the hospital in Harbinger's absence. There are not many patients, but it is good to have a trained healer on the premises. I will come see you in a few days and you can meet the future father of my kitten.” Her eyes glittered mischievously and I smiled, though it was a little strained. “We will have several apprentices between us. I shall strive to mitigate some of the....unsavory habits he will teach them.” Medley grimaced, but it was more a complaint of the Harbinger's lack of a bedside manner than it was about his skills.
>>
>>21463111
I leaned on my staff quite a bit more than I expected, but I was glad that Medley hadn't tried to make me stay in the hospital. While she suspected, she did not know for certain how much of a hatred I had for places of healing, despite my respect for healers themselves. Besides, there were other matters that needed dealing with.

We hugged once more at the door, and she kissed my cheek which made me blush. She always made me feel like a little girl, though I was only a decade younger than she was, and certainly not a little girl by any measure save weight. I took a deep breath as she closed the door, and felt the strain pull at the insides of my lungs. The dark, twisted part of me gleefully let me know I'd suffered all that for nothing, and I stomped it into several kinds of submission before I walked over to the bench that the oni had completely ignored in favor of leaning against one of the awnings supporting beams.

She was dozing fitfully, and I sat on the bench across from her, setting my knapsack aside. The large jar of grain alcohol was half empty, and smelled incredibly potent, perhaps as potent as the distilled spirits in the flash that I kept on hand. The strange girl smelled of sweat and flowers; something like water hyacinths might smell like, if they grew here. Her eyes fluttered as I watched her dozing, and she started when she saw me sitting there. Her club was resting off the porch, within easy reach, but it wasn't the weapon she reached for; it was her shackles.

I smiled wanly at the girl, the moon more than enough light for my newly awakened senses, and apparently enough for her as well; she relaxed and pulled her knee up, resting one arm over it as she pulled the jar into her lap. Apparently she was satisfied I wouldn't be trying to take her shackles away. “You are called Silver, the Witch of TeeGee,” she stated, and I wondered when I'd actually been given that title, or if it was simply an outgrowth of legend, such as the Harbinger's name or Olin's title was. “You fight well. I was surprised by your strength and prowess.” She upended the jar and took several deep swallows, though she managed not to spill any, which was rather startling. Not Worthy then offered the jar to me, smiling.

Wary of offending her, I took the jar in both hands and took several swallows, though the burn of the potent whiskey made it difficult. At least it hadn't been rum or some other sugary-spicy drink; I would have immediately thrown up. Something about rum disagreed with me violently, though I could usually stomach brandies. I coughed several times, but she was pleased despite that. “I am called Silver. I am also unfortunately forced to admit I didn't defeat you by skill at arms. My magic slipped free and was more what defeated you than my skill.”
>>
>>21463143
To my surprise – and relief – she waved it off as though it had been inconsequential. Her eyes took on that haunted look again however. “I was told so, by the necromancer whom came to study me. He was quite surprised I had survived, and to be sure he was most interested in my body. Not the way most men would be! Ha!” That wasn't a surprise – she was just one more specimen to the Harbinger, who already had his hands full of the beautiful twins. “Still, you did what no other could have done. I was told of you you see. Or someone like you. One who would slay me, and then draw me back from the Houses of the Dead.” Her eyes searched mine, and I stared back impassively.

She broke the gaze first, which wasn't really a surprise, and fidgeted nervously, playing with the twisted cords tied through the handle of the jar. “I left on my wandering earlier than most of my people do. It is not very common to leave, for we are an insular, hardy sort of people. I simply did not wish to be mated so soon.” The tattoo between her horns twitched again, and all the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. “I asked the wise woman of a neighboring clan for help. Ours was too closely related and might have spoken out against me.”

It didn't take a genius to see where this was going, but as usual I sat through the explanation, because that was both duty and part of the Rules. Part of what makes mortals terrifying to the fey is that they can leap to conclusions, even to action, despite not knowing or being told something. Fey are incapable of leaps of logic or intuition; they cannot actually conceive of acting on information they are not given. Of course, give a fey a prophecy and they can become nightmarishly unpredictable in how they act because prophecies take care of themselves. In fey thought.

Case in point.

“She told me I would find one who felt as I did, but that that person would kill me. Then that person would being me back from the dead to serve.” My heart sank, and I sighed, to myself mostly. When I looked back up, she was looking into my eyes, searching for some kind of sign, some kind of proof that I was what she was. I smiled wryly, and gestured for her to go on. Resigned, she continued her story. “I have wandered for almost two years, across much of the mountains and into the deserts to reach this place. I was told that this place had many strange people, people who did not find the skins and horns of others unpleasant to look upon.” I was later to learn that 'skin and horns' meant any kind of skin and any non-human qualities of a given race. A Felim's tail and ears were their 'horns' for example. “And even stranger people than the hornless ones who live in the valleys, or in the fabled city. Hornless men and women who sought kinship with any, skins and horns mattering not at all to them.”
>>
>>21463177
“So I came to rest here, and to play at battle with the clever folk here, perhaps with any luck finding the one the seer spoke of. I expected her to be a great warrior with vast magic.” She'd slipped finally – I'd been waiting for that pronoun to show up. “I did not expect to find a young wise woman who was ill with the lung-rot. I most certainly did not expect you to slay me....much less bring me to life again!” Not Worthy smiled winningly up at me. “I know that it is you, witch called Silver. And I think you know it too.”

I chewed the inside of my cheek a little. “I was given a prophecy of my own, some time ago. I was told I would face a demon who was not a demon, and lay that demon to rest, only to unleash that demon again upon my city. Which is fairly accurate, I would say, if vague. But such is the way of prophecy.” I leaned back and clasped my hands in my lap. “Though, to be honest, Sir Reynard had much to do with keeping you alive.” Not Worthy started to protest but I held up my hand. To my surprise she fell silent, though her cheeks were dark and she smelled hot. Temperature wise, I mean, which is something I didn't realize could be scented.

“No, I know I am the one you are looking for, and yes, I am like you.” The relief in her expression and body language was overwhelmingly obvious. Having been a victim of that kind of tension myself in the past, I could sympathize a little. “But that doesn't mean we're going to be mates, or even lovers. I am ill, just like you said. But I am also a witch, like you said. That means intimacy for me is not going to be like it is for most people. Also, you're incredibly strong, not to mention heavy.” I smiled faintly. “Sex with you wouldn't be safe for any human. Dragons and lamias maybe....and there are some that are like us here. I will introduce you to one tonight or tomorrow.”

Not Worthy's expression looked both dubious and stubborn. Her prophecy had been a great deal more in depth than mine had been, apparently. I sighed and stood up slowly, picking up my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. “Look, for now, you can stay with me, though it is going to be crowded. I live in the castle, and if you want, you can help me with my studies and work, until you decide to move on or you find the one you are meant to be with.” Her expression was beatific, and I had the sinking feeling that she was going to be far worse than Jaculye was going to be about it. “I can pay you to help me, so that will be less of a problem as well.”

“Do they make strong drink here?” With musculature like hers, and therefore much improved liver, pancreas, and kidney function, I imagine alcohol was broken down so fast and effectively they had to brew some of the strongest liquors that existed in this world to sate their desire for drink.

She slid off the porch and swept up her camping gear, and I swear to gods it rose two inches when her weight came off of it. “Y....yes, they do pretty well.” Giving them some pointers as given to me by my home-brewing friend had paid off, along with the chemistry know-how of others that had led to some of the best distilled liquor in the region. “I'm not paying in alcohol though. You can buy it yourself.” She gave me a sidelong glance and a slight smile that said she thought she'd already won the battle.

I sighed and walked her to my home, reveling in the new senses that my near death experience had imparted me, and wondering if I really was going to let Jaculye try and talk me into accepting the affections that someone very obviously had for me. I was afraid that it would end in tragedy, because, well I had no real good health, and worse, my hobbies included playing with beings that made monsters look like pleasant tea-time companions (in the form of faeries and other Wasteland dwellers) and working with the most dangerous of toys in the world – magic. It was a double edged knife with no handle.

I could throw it, I suppose, but chances were good it would still stick someone in the ass. Probably me. Love really was War.

Right, lovely work from you.

A couple of questions, when would you place this happening in the timeline we've hammered out, would you object to a brief cameo scene in a tea shop, and where are you pulling these pictures of genderswapped Romance of the Three Kingdoms characters from?

Other people are welcome to have cameos in the Spy shakedown scene, but please limit the involvement (to very little).

Also, there was this huge seven hour gap in the posts before everything picked up, was everyone out voting in America, or something?

What time is it? Rumour and Speculation time!

The catacombs aren't just filled with spiders and bats, dead things lurk and secret shadows gather and meet.

The few necromancers that have snooped around the battlefields of TeeGee have noted a rather large lack of soul, which leads them to believe that the Outrealmers were lying about their numbers.

Citizens believe that people are going missing, for example, the original director of the museum hasn't been seen in years.

There's an awful lot of machinery going into the theatre and filming lots. Could props be the only things they are working on?

You didn't hear it from me, but latest counts place three immortals in this very city!

Is the Lab (restaurant and family dining) trying to make us all sick, and worse, pay for it?!

...wait, you meant rumour about the Knights, right?

Hope those rumours aren't too far fetched, or spoilery.

And now for the wild paparazzi and conspiracies:

Sir Andrew plans on marrying a princess of the Kingdoms!

The Council deals with Pirates and Torturers of the vilest sort!

They claim there are tiny bugs smaller than the eye can perceive crawling over food and skin, which is why the Lab burns half the things they cook!

Orc BDSM will be the death of us all!

Sleeper agents are among us, we must rise up against the beggar, the urchin, the vagrant!

Men that have walked on the moon? Preposterous!

The Black Tide fuels their old world machines! They were necromancers and grave defilers of the worst degree!

Oh, and two more things.

First, I'm thinking that there's a hidden section to Olin's library (probably underground) that stores texts that shouldn't be in the public eye for whatever reason. Thoughts?

Second, I'm writing a thing where Wilhelm pokes around an old ruin in the Wastes at the behest of some adventurers. No real combat though, it'll probably be a bit closer to Rendezvous with Rama. (On a tangent, I would kill someone for a movie adaptation of that with effects by WETA.)

Had a neat little idea.

Drow have been mentioned but not expanded upon.

Delcisious dark skinned elves are normal wood elves however.

What if Drow are pretty much the same thing, dark and light skin. Legends of them (should they exist) are due to their cave adaptation. They were black, fullbody suits and this thick, black paint like substance to prevent seriously debilitating sun burn, and ruby lens goggles or contacts or something to allow them to see in the light. Thus, vast majority of reports about them are from their surface raiding parties (and even these are extremely rare)

And rather than just "DURRHURR WE ARE EVIL" drow, we give them a legitimate reason for their culture. Maybe they're super anarchists or something, "if you cannot defend yourself you have no right to your opinion" type stuff. They broke off from the elves we know ages ago, due to how the elves we know had been getting more and more totalitarian over time (until the point where it's actually genetic? Biomantic?). That way we don't have "DURRHURR WE ARE EVIL" nor "DURRHURR I AM THE EXCEPTION" drizzit-clones either.

Thoughts? If it's a stupid idea all together just ignore me :P
>>
>>21473783
Perhaps not anarchist so much as separatist or isolationist, but that's a good idea.
>>
>>21473783
i thought drow were elves that had once been infected with a disease that used to be super bad but they evolved to make harmless (to them anyway). and i don't recall them being evil, iirc they were shocked at all the evil we said the other elves did

>>21473783
Drow have been expanded upon to the extent that their skin color/cultural attitudes were explained.

Cliff notes is they are pretty much the opposite of drow in most fiction and are basically hippies that are pretty appalled about what the other elves have become and the black skin and stuff was from a disease that they eventually adapted themselves to (a disease that someone weaponized at some point).

One of the beautiful things about the setting is that most things are left vague enough that there can be more than one origin for different groups.
