    196 KB Ironhearts Vol.2 VVarroom- Spring of 646 DeathMarshal !9phgYvH10U 05/01/12(Tue)21:24 No.18941465
It has been weeks since we've heard of Hassan, but before the end of the fortnight, we amassed preparations for the next assault. The spring winds brought about the whoreshunned hay fever, and keeping my bearings around Vilkas had been getting difficult.

More difficult, because he's beginning to visit /her/ more frequently. Was it because the two had a similar genesis ? That they are interlinked with a deathgod in some way ? Corona Gard should be able to confirm it tonight...

Otherwise despite waltzing about the staging area with a gas mask the ranks of recruits have been multiplying. More regulars than we have officers, and most of them hail from the fringe lands, their long treks leaving them smelling like old canoes.

It's a watershed, my dear prince. They hear of your tales of bravery and like an unstoppable train they gather. Hatred for the Kashir has been renewed, and our prospering industries have been entrusted to work our share of Ibonyte while our scientists multiply their use everyday.

Dare I say it, I'm already seeing the progress this country is beginning to make in a time that I thought I'd never see in my lifetime.

But still, the deserts loom. And their reach continues to tide over our farmlands. The wrath of a starving Voss has been a fight that no one has won against us.

    Current Report:
Oderkonn is working on integrating ENergy weapons,
It seems he's adamant about hiding details until he's ready to show us. Other Research prompts are also on the way.

Stargazer Training is open for veteran players. New players may attempt this but the learning curve for them would be appreciable.

The next mission on the table should reflect our ongoing offensive against Kashir.

    >NCA: replace one of my eyes with the Eye of Shiva

Ella thought on the Starstress' words, running her fingers over the cool surfaces of the Eye. She had retreated to her tent after her conversation with the Starstress, hoping to give Rai an answer soon. The artifact's origins were startling, its power tanalizing. The Starstress had offered to implant the artifact herself--all that Ella had to do was say she was ready, and she would make the necessary preparations for the ritual.

Ella closed her eyes, unsure of herself. Was she powerful enough to control the Eye? Would she even survive the ritual to implant it? What will it be like after the act?

"You have that look again." Ella drew her eyes up from the ground, seeing Abilene in the doorway to her tent.

Ella chuckled. "The ugly one where I'm in deep thought?"

"The very same." Abilene walked over to Ella's cot, leaning her Vulcan on the bed. "Just looking out for you--worry lines and all."

"Yeah, Mom, thanks." Ella managed a smile, turning toward her bodyguard. "You know, you never were clear why you decided to follow me after Academy. You could have easily gotten a job with some Science Team with Marion, working on new 'Wonder Weapons' for the war effort."

"And be cooped up indoors all day?" Abby scoffed. "Why Ella, I do believe you have me confused for someone else!"

"Okay, fine, you got me there." Ella laughed, the smile soon turning melancholy. "I'm still kinda uneasy."

"The business about the Eye, right?"

    "Yeah." Ella said.

"You, uh...." Abby trailed off, turning her head to look at Ella. "You gonna go through with it?"

Ella remained silent, letting out a sigh before standing up. She ran a hand through her chestnut hair. It was getting long again; she needed to cut it before the next mission. "It's not like I haven't thought of it. C'mon Abby, think about it. I could do so much with this, you know? This could be one of my most definite contributions to this war--turning a Kashir artifact of power upon its creators." Ella sighed. "I know it sounds crazy, but, well, every little bit counts, right? 'Do your part' and all that propaganda they fed us back at Crescent Bay." She stepped up to her old friend, bidding her to stand up. "One last thing. Abby, if...if this doesn't work--"

    "Ella--"

"J--just make sure this gets back home, okay?" Ella reached into her coat, pulling out a thick white envelope. "It's a bit of money to help out the folks. Should be enough to get the ball rolling--Uncle Boo needs that new fence, Caroline needs some money to fix the car--"

    "Ella--"

"Abby." Ella stepped closer. "Abilene." She forced the envelope into her friend's hand. "Please?" She forced her eyes onto her friend's face.

    >>18947892

Abby looked back into her friend's face. She saw fear, but it was overcome by determination. Acceptance mixed with courage. She didn't want to say yes. She didn't want to think that her friend was right. But that was always Ella--thinking for the greater good of the campaign, placing the majority first over the minority. She would do this not for herself, but for the Young Prince. She would do this for all of Voss. Ella was too stubborn to back down once she had chosen a side. She would not back down now; Abilene knew that just by looking into Ella's eyes.

Abby hung her head in defeat. "I...I'm not gonna be able to talk you outta this one, am I?"

    "Probably not."

Silence. Abby sighed, shaking her head. "Okay." She closed her hand around the envelope. "I'll do it."

The walk to the Starstress' tent was silent. Oleg had volunteered to stay outside the tent in case something...drastic happened. Ella gave one final nod to the large man before Ella and her stepped inside Rai's tent. "Starstress?" She called out to the robed figure. "I'm ready."

That is correct. The Voss tend to utilize NPC mook units for the purposes of reinforcement and meatshields for the Royals, which are the PC classes. In addition, Voss Royals tend to get a second lease on life after death, with the Death Korps classes being unlocked when one dies under certain conditions. Voss infantry also benefit from a shared upgrade pool they all contribute to, which has in the past unlocked such benefits as +1 hp for all royal classes, alternate weapon loadouts, new classes, sidearms for all infantry, etc.

Yessir - for example, if you were a [K] (Krieger), you would start with Scale BDUs (+1 hp for royal classes) and sidearms (an additional starting weapon) as default wargear, and could wear an Iron Helm (+.5 hp) and swap out your SMG for an Elephant Gun (Alt weapon choice). This would cause each man in your squad have 2.5 hp, and using a weapon that sacrifices rate of fire for sheer damage.

These three upgrades increased the default size of the unit. Ritters and Destroy Hazards initially came in units of one man - now that we purchased those upgrades, they come in pairs. Science Interns are an add-on to the Quemist - rather than gaining additional Quemists in the unit, you get two interns who can assist you in modifying your mushrooms but do not carry their own supplies of mushrooms.

    On Midian Integration.
    A case study.

    Canassas Hellsing.

From the 1st Year of Von Voss and much before then, the existence of Midians- then known as vampires- had been something of a horror story, and today remains to be one depending on where you meet these noble hunters.

Know that your fellow Midian, quick to integrate to their native societies, are inherently civil predators like the human creature. At three meals a day, and from sunrise to high moons, a human consumes as much life and matter as a midian would- whether it be meats or vegetables or other things deemed appropriate in our society. Midians however face the obstacle of only having their sustenance once or twice a night through the blood of mammals, preferably sapient species.
    >> Voss Royal Archives !9phgYvH10U 05/02/12(Wed)23:31 No.18956413
Using their past experience as humans, Midians are reborn as entooled hunters more powerful, quicker, and vastly receptive to more sensory details that human language has yet to name. And this power is determined by their diet, which forces them to be ceaseless consumers of human blood- in a quantity too large for any simple adult to donate even in good faith.

In Voss, the Midian observe their own societal laws and are bound to interpersonal circles usually consisting of their Blood Patron/ Matron, Their Guardian, and their Daywalker/ Thrall.
The Blood Matron is responsible for siring the newborn Midian, and raises them to fullfill their utmost potential whether or not this agrees with society. Their Guardian will most likely act as their social agent who must see to their welfare in a society that may be largely disagreeable of their existence should the midian themselves fail to uphold their coexistence in society, The Guardian may take any action - against the Matron or the Midian themselves to appease the legal bodies at large whether human or Midian. It is possible for their blood Patron to fullfill these roles as one in the same. It is possible for their Guardian to be a non-midian or be a Guardian for multiple Midians demarcated by geo-political division and other etceteras.

On top of social contracts the Midian maintained as a human, they may initiate trusted non-midians with the role of day-walker, whether through coercion or pact or even through emotional bond. Usually these agents and those mentioned in the above act in secret, rarely will you see a daywalker proclaim their business to someone in a supermarket so to spea- "

Elizabet leafs through 50 or so pages and scans ahead...
    >> =MM= [HD1] 2nd. Lt. Otso von Claude !!Q8arC9Fqv2r 05/02/12(Wed)23:33 No.18956439

    Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: Yes, or both [D]s can tamp one mortar 3 times in total then shoot it, for a single devastating round, which could be anything from 4 damage to having a range of 11 hexes or anything in between.
    >> Voss Royal Archives !9phgYvH10U 05/03/12(Thu)01:20 No.18957975
    >>18956413

truth be told, Midians are considered cadavers, controlled solely through the blood that composes them. It also happens to be that at the base of this crimson sea is a voracious composition of plasma that reacts poorly to sunlight. The result is often explosive, the "blood" reacting to the radiation like an aggravated cancer. Often it is wondered if the basic origin of this substance is alien and biological or completely mystical- being the work of pre biblical pantheons.

Since their blood is their life, it could be inferred that many Midians are defined by the characteristics of what they take into themselves. However none react so profoundly as other Midian strains, each one shaped and unique, having distinct features for its user.

When a Midian is sired they quickly come to terms with their ambiguous existence such that metaphysical definitions of themselves begin to manifest as primordial defense mechanisms. Skin colors can change, whole bodies can phase through walls no matter how substantial the matter, fire breath, paralyzing sight, iron weapons from pools of blood, and even the ability to manipulate luck

The manifestations are bizarre, sometimes breaking reality. Their minds achieve natural configurations that most Espers achieve through training, and their presence in celestial circles is indifferently regarded sometimes even favored due to their commitment to being nocturnal. The midian is fast, and cunning but lose their patience quickly in the slow world. However despite accelerated mental states, and a nearly unlimited lifespan, Midians develop glacialy most being suspended in a state of constant puberty or cyclical eccentrism, whichever brings constant interest in their perpetual cycles.

    >>
    >> Voss Royal Archives !9phgYvH10U 05/03/12(Thu)01:21 No.18957986
Midians develop in various ways but most come to terms with their inhuman side, and begin to grow out of their identity as once-people and begin to embody material institutions. Most notable would be Franz Hinzerhaus who dedicated the past 100 or so years of his life simply researching occult phenomena such as this one. Or Marian Galile, a travelling Assassin that awakens every time there's a war fierce enough to wake and sustain her predatory lust. Either through sheer social importance or pure ability, these two have been without fail able to hinder, defeat, counter, or shut down every attempt against their life.

There is also a minority of Midians who live sedate lives and gravitate towards specific frequencies of human emotion. Speculation would indicate that they hardly have the need for blood at all...[1]

While Midians are social beings, it is very rare for them to get together on a scale as large as a dinner party, much less a secret kabal. Each one is too individualistic to retain any sort of common ground with the other Midian and operate through remote agents who are cells unto themselves. Rarely will there be societies for them and if there were it would be too divided or distinct unless some head vampire was at work masterminding the plot of them- "

Elizabet blinks for a few moments taking most of it in and scans the book for more concrete details...

" You know... very rarely are there Midian writers.. in fact there are hardly any at all " Anna Hel calls out from the archives.

" The experience of being is simply something that can't be put to words, I'm sure you'll know. I chose you after all, but I'm glad you're brushing up on your etiquette, Hellsing always did write objectively about this prey... "

"Well I wouldn't want my second chance at making war for the foreseeable future be cut short by something benign like feeding on the wrong person. I see there is a bunch of power listed, do they come naturally or is there some other way to get them that doesn't involve draining another midian? I don't think Kashir use them."

    About Energy Weapons:
    >Only the Stun Baton and the Electron Array are currently the only ones we have weaponized, however we've found out that having them fielded will boost research initiatives quickly ! Those who take the time to write up reports [xp] on the effect of these two weapons may contribute something to their development. There is also a complaints section and a section for posthumous wills.

    >Stun Baton: Due to the insurgence of large scaled enemies the stun baton requires that you make contact with the enemy. to deliver a [2] power stun ; which diminishes the target's ACTIONS and MOBILITY , in that order. The stun baton requires very little Ibonyte however the tech was needed in order to create them.

The Herrblitz, coined by sleep deprived scientists,
is a mounted energy projection array and simply that. A hot sink is spooled up allowing it to increase its charge. Once a suitable energy level is achieved, it can be released to the general direction of the enemy. However, make note, these beams do not distiguish between friend or foe, and saturates targets in a straight line. Chance of instant saturation is determined by the charge rating so watch out !

Take note; do not overtax this weapon as it's been proven that it can blow out - please observe caution and give it time to cool between shots. Other things may set it off as it's charging, so ensure that it NEVER gets damaged by anything during this time !

    =The Eggs=

The night was warm and humid and yet the spring winds have a minty taste of dew. It is in a simple hatchery, recently borrowed by the royal forces, that twin eggs sit among a nuzzle of wolves. It was during this strange hour, at the waning sliver of moonlight that the twin eggs have crackled, under the guidance of moonlight.

A clutch of Wyerns, three in fact, entangled as a mass of slithering heaps their wails honking off like some morning bird that had made me smile from ear to ear with familiarity. It was here that the the other egg cracked open, its tensed shell creaking as a round dog-sized gryph, honked for a hand to care for them.

And what good was I, a sole witness to this who could only cradle them till the absolute first light of morning. Who could offer little heat nor proper nutrition, save for the eggs in the other chicken's coops and the eventual attention of their Lycan caretaker....

Herrblitz on a vehichle finds its first successful trial today, luckily, the tank was without its munitions since the expulsion of high energy nearly warmed the tank to +10 degrees its optimal heatsink.

It has been noted that vehichle based energy weapons shouldn't be fired in conjunction with on board armaments for fear of exciting the explosive compounds within the vehichle or overheating the array itself. Nor should it ever be internally mounted unless a SUBSTANTIAL cooling agent is installed with it..

It looks like we can hit the outer islands with a greater chance of success, we should avoid losing a battle in a skyland that's well networked with nearby isles, otherwise we'll be swallowed up by the enemy.

Otherwise I have it narrowed down to these two places:
    > The Green skylands to the west, which I hear are full of great beasts might serve as a fair staging point to take on the central chains.

We should probably avoid attacking the central island until we cut apart the outlying defenses. I say we should take on the western island. WE take out their animal cavalry, we can eliminate the Kashir's ability to bring out heavy units, possibly even use some of those animal units ourselves.

I must ask, though--on the western island, what are we looking at in terms of geography? What about enemy strength and composition? I was thinking that the thick forests would mean that booby traps and ambush units would be our main opposition.

The moon and the stars tell tales of their own, as Starstress Rai would often say, whispers of what was, is, and will be. The stargazers are attuned to the living stars and I, by my nature, to the moon. Something would happen tonight. That much was written in the moonlight.

The courier girl found me moonlighting in Sergeant Lennox's Lonely Hearts Club Band as she made her way past the Death Korp's unofficial clubhouse at a full sprint pausing only to call out, "The eggs have hatched!" I waved, acknowledging her, and excused Klaus and myself from the company of our colleagues.

I came upon Oskar and Meyer on my way to the hatchery; I suggested that Oskar and I assume our lycan forms. Karl, I found peering into the dining hall as innocently as a wyvern could, tail grasped in his front limbs disarmingly and 'smiling'. Our appearance put an end to his unsuccessful endeavor and he happily fell in alongside Klaus and Meyer.

It is quite rare to see Countess Hel in the flesh and her reputation precedes her. Yet, here she was, cradling three wyvern hatchlings in her arms, their shell fragments still scattered neatly on the floor. She watched them, we watched her, and the white wolves watched us all.

Withdrawal effects should not be too severe as to place a front line soldier's life in more danger that it already is. I suppose that the Countess could take the wyverns for now while they are still in their infancy, train them--unless there's someone you see as more qualified, sir.

Standing from her desk in the medical tent, leaving the latest pharmaceutical test documents regarding the new combat drugs up for issue half read, Kraus walks out, mumbling an excuse to her mentor. Ema looks up, only surprised in that it was the first time in weeks her student had referred to her as anything other than sis or four-eyes.

Ever since the Death-God had been brought from Gorgon Island, a pensive mood had been gripping the young soldat. She felt intensely drawn to her, though for what reason specifically she couldn't quite grasp. As if she were tied to her with an invisible string, it felt like there was a connection between them, a gentle tugging on her finger that became more and more persistent with every passing day.

Whether she meant to cross the base to where Deus was being kept she wasn't sure. Thinking about it, she wasn't even sure when or where she'd heard where she was being kept in the first place. Looking at the cleared out hotel, it sure didn't seem like the kind of place a death-god would be kept. Presenting her papers and making up some faff about samples and physicals one of the guards salutes her and leads her upstairs to one of the rooms.

Stepping inside Kraus is momentarily taken aback by what she sees. Rather than a fire-haired shining purple demigoddess, a rather average looking girl sits at the end of the worn bed. She has fair skin and blonde hair, but her Kashirn heritage shows if you know where to look. It's the kind of rare aesthetic that would get her bullied in the village as a bastard child—and singled out by invading soldiers

Kraus's stomach turns slightly as she realizes she has no good reason to be here, and her silence, no matter how momentary, only makes it painfully obvious.
“Good evening, uh, subject Zwei. I've come to assess your...Preparedness for future training and uuhh assessments under the Voss legion. How are you feeling tonight?” Smooth, Kraus. Real smooth.
“I am well.” Is all she says, with the kind of blank expectancy of a trained dog sitting on command. It seems too uncanny, compared to the willful creature she saw at Silvia.
“Good, good...So, tell me, Zwei, let's just do a review of what you've been trained in so far”

Without skipping a beat, Deus begins extolling the rigors of her daily training. Learning to harness energy, and wield it with precision, letting it manifest slowly and carefully under supervision. It seems like half of it is little more than being taught the glory of the Voss Empire. She sounds like one of the propaganda broadcasts Kraus heard a long time ago. So smugly assured that this way is the one. Like a balloon swollen with hot air rising away from the grasp of the crowd below. It makes her want to puncture it.

“...and that's why we must go so slow, even with such immediate need. Without proper order and determination of how to correctly use this power in a measured fashion—”
“Doaa.” Kraus interjects “Can I call you Doaa? Subject Zwei isn't a name for a young woman.” She says it, without thinking in the tongue of their people, the singing language of the desert. She locks eyes with Deus, holding her position as the blades are drawn in this swordsman's duel.
“Yes...This is acceptable if it is what you wish, doktor.” the words come out as the tight and measured response to a superior's command. But despite it, Kraus can see her mind racing to process the new development.

Taking the moment's opening to make the first thrust, Kraus continues
“You are a tool of the Voss empire, a means to an end. We all are, Doaa, and it is good. But even so, you are a young woman, Doaa, with a heart and a brain.”
“That is of no consequence, doktor, my heart has no place in the Voss machine” she says it just how she's supposed to, but with the ghost of a grimace as the words are forced past her lips “my superiors are those who should think and feel for me. With the kind of power I hold, there is no time to have doubts, or misconceptions it's—it's inefficient is what it is”

“Have you ever considered the power of the gun, Doaa? I mean, think of it” she says drawing her pistol, fondling it in her hands “what's to stop me from walking out of this room right now, pressing the barrel to an officer's temple and pulling the trigger?”
Doaa listens raptly. The look on her face shows that everything she's been told tells her she should be horrified at the prospect, but she can't help but show a sliver of taboo fascination. It gives her half a moment's pause before she responds, the issue clearly reaching the edges of her lesson plan.
“Well, of course you'd be hunted down by this whole base of soldiers. That's what happens to corrupt elements, they are exterminated to keep the Voss machine running”
“But it's not a matter of whether I'll be killed or not, what if that's all I want? To give some asshole a third eye socket before I get ripped? I've been given the power of the gun. Anybody could tell me how to use it, but I'm the one who gets to decide who has more holes at the end of the day than when they woke up”
They stare at each other for a long time, hardly blinking, never breaking eye contact.
“...Why are you telling me this?”

If you—if we all decide consciously what we're going to do, then we can make that future the one we want, the one we can be proud of. Rather than the future some politician wants, who lets us get dumped in a warehouse to rust until he needs us again.”
“I'm sure those who lead Voss know what's best...”
“Yeah, right for them. Right now I've heard there's a huge hooplah just over letting the Emperor rule”
“Well, who wouldn't have their doubts about a bastard child?” Doaa spits suddenly
“Exactly, right? But look at 'im, he's the only decent politic I've met. He gives a shit about us, Doaa, that's more than I can say for most of the top brass. They're our leaders, but they're still just people. People who have their own goals and agendas”
“They are flawed, but they are still those who lead Voss. You said it yourself, Voss is the future.”
“They lead Voss, but we are Voss. We will take this nation where it will go by our own blood and sweat.”

“Put it straight, doktor, what are you getting at here? Why are you prying up so many boards you don't need to, just to get to the same conclusion that you're here now, you're going to fight anyway.”
“It doesn't matter if it's the same, Doaa. Some day it might not be. Some day it might come down to the enemy having something worth protecting that we want destroyed. Some day the enemy might be another man of Voss. What then? Who has the right to order then?”
“It's not worth it to think about such arbitrary things. All this “What if” and “possibly” doesn't help anyone, it's just doubt, and questions”
“So it is. But if you pay attention those questions come up more than you think. Don't consider it, and you're nothing better than a trained bitch barking on command.”
Doaa's eyes flare, and in an instant she has Kraus by the collar
“Don't you ever say that to me!”
“I didn't. You said it yourself in fancier words. No man, no God holds your fate.”
“Pfeh, 'No man, no God.' Well see what fruit that bears” Doaa says, her practiced expression breaking into a sneer

Scouting photos have just come in,
it seems our struggle to take over this island will be as early as getting on it.

The canopy cover is mighty, and the ground is all but stable, we'd have to carve out a bit of land for ourselves to make anything as near functional as a firebase.

As for the uhm... artifact to the north, the science team is already looking into its classification, I'm sure we'll hear from oderkonn soon. He wouldn't pass up an oppurtunity to make this little island base into a research cloud.

There appear to be two clearings--one in the SE and one in the SW. It would probably be a good idea to start with two teams, and work our way up the jungle from there, each team clearing their respective side of the island. We could run Duocopters and Halberds for armor support on both routes. Also, that ridge in the center of the island could be good for a sniper/artillery spotter team or a Destroy-Hazard team. It doesn't look like tanks will be much of an option, though, because of the thick vegetation; looks like infantry will be the stars of this op.

If anything, I just wish we had some napalm--that tree cover could be hiding anything, from booby traps to enemy soldiers to whatever sorts of native fauna. Speaking of, did the scout reports mention anything about the indigenous species living on the island?
