You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and captain of the Sword class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah'. A metallic knock echos down the ship's halls as your bionic fingers strike a door for the first time. Beyond the plasteel you sense footsteps before your XO slowly opens the door to her quarters. For a moment you study her slightly dishelved clothing while she studies your new arm. "You look well, Elesh. Need something?"

"Answers." Inserting yourself into Athe's quarters, you soon find yourself sitting across from your friend in a sort of fatigued standoff. Athe wearily shakes her head before pouring two glasses of water. "I assume you want the details on the missions that were passed my way?"

    >Correct, let's hear them.
    >No, I want answers about you. (specify, please)
    >other?

"The information, though I wouldn't mind hearing more of your relationship with Canoness Laci. She seems to value your opinion quite highly."

If your words had any effect upon Athe, she didn't show it in any way. "She trained and served with my mother, then taught me in the Schola when I was young. Before I left. As for the missions, the sororitas would like to get some of their future battlecruiser crew acclimated to a larger ship, and your new factory ship is the correct size for such a task." "'Heavenly Forge', I was recently struck with inspiration from the Omnissiah." Athe raises an eyebrow at your words, but soon breaks into a small laugh. "You'll have to tell me the stories behind your naming schemes some time, Elesh. Anyway, they're offering to provide a crew for a crewless ship, so the deal seems sound enough until we can get our own crew together. I doubt men from Tortuga will want to work a mining ship, though. You'll need to supply the ship with a captain, as well."

You slowly nod your head in contemplation as your XO finishes off her glass of water. "Magos Grumman has two missions for us, though completing both will be quite difficult. The first is to secure a powerful drive component that has recently been purchased by Feophe. We'll need to take a transport and then make the ship and cargo vanish for good, along with any escorts and witnesses. Information suggests that a squadron of escorts will be the cover. The second mission involves diverting Feophe's attention by striking a small group of ships in the Norovictus system. Again, no survivors or witnesses. You've also been requested by the Eldar that Quein freed from the raiding Xenos above Aquari."

"Thank you, Athe. I believe I'll arrange to have them off the ship as soon as possible." You embrace Athe before departing, noting the distinct difference in sensations between your arms. Athe momentarily squirms deeper into your embrace as her flesh seeks to avoid the metallic chill of your bionic. As you make your way to the isolated quarters that house your guests, you reflect upon the unusual difference between the sensation felt by your arms during your earlier hug. While your bionic contains sensors for pressure and temperature, you are frustratingly unable to pinpoint the cause of the minor lack in feedback received. Before you can come to a conclusion, you find yourself standing before a guarded door. "Captain." Both guards stand at what passes for attention upon a pirate vessel. "I've come to speak with our guests."

The xenos seem to have made themselves at home within the larger room, though they seem to prefer cushions and pillows upon the decking than a proper bunk. Most regard you wearily as you enter, though a small handful pay you no notice for one reason or another. "I take it that you are the captain of this ship, Mon'Keigh?" The nearest xenos bows its head to you, though you note the slight grimace as it speaks unpracticed low gothic. "I am the leader of this group, with the passing of the Farseer. I am known as Veld'th, and I offer you my service in exchange for the safe release of my people."

    >cont
    >> MachineSpirit !!ZwhWAwcuTHG 04/26/12(Thu)22:03 No.18876729
Several other xenos flinch, though one gasps slightly and steps forward. "I offer my own services in his place, Mon'Keigh." The two soon begin to speak in their own, strangely melodic tongue, but you're fairly sure that an arguement is taking place. As you contemplate a counter-offer, you note that the xenos seem to lack anything of value at the moment, and you're soon fairly sure you can differentiate the second xeno as a female of the lithe species.

    >Counter offer! (specify)
    >I accept your terms (which one?)
    >Fuck you, pay me

"I was a starfarer" replies Veld'th, "Though I know not how well my skills would work with your crude ships."

"If you both stay, you wouldn't be devoid of your own kind." Your offer quickly backfires with Veld'th. The xeno scofts in his native tongue before expressing himself in low gothic. "Your greed sickens me, Mon'Keigh. I'll not serve with one such as you." As the alien gracefully stalks toward the far end of the room, the wanderer supresses a victorious grin. "Then my services shall serve as the ransom for my people, Mon'Keigh. If you would take us to the system your people call 'Valkyria', you may release them at the ruins of the third planetary body." The sudden change in the xeno's tone confuses you for a moment, but you're not complaining about an asset that no longer acts hostile.

"The death world Kromvo? You do know that entire expeditions vanish into those ruins... what shall I call you?"

"Call me whatever name you wish, Mon'Keigh. You would only sully the harmony of my true name." You briefly consider the joy you'll feel when you break this xeno bitch of her superior air. That is a moment to be savored, for sure.

"We'll be under way shortly, Bob."

The xeno shoots you a queer look as she struggles to make any sense of her new name, but you have many things to do before you can be rid of the majority of these guests. But first, you must re-synch yourself to the ship's time. Your body is still not fully recovered from the removal of your upper arm and majority of the shoulder joint for your bionic arm, after all.

Several hours later you stride from your quarters refreshed and ready to tackle the small hill of tasks required of you this day.
