YOU ARE ALEX RASTON. Yesterday, you had your bones forcibly welded back together after some asshole took a lead pipe to your ribs.

It was a less than plesent experience.

You wake up and notice that it's barely 5am. Almost an hour earlier than you normally wake up, and you're not immediately sure why. Then you notice Elsie's crying in her sleep, shaking a little.

    That'd do it.

    [ ] Wake her.
    [ ] Wake her gently.
[ ] Hold her, see if she calms down.

You're careful not to disturb her, and gently place one arm around her, and pull her in snug. After a few minutes, she stops crying, and goes back into a deeper slumber.

You can't really get yourself comfortable after that, so you just lay there and hold her. After about a half an hour she slowly starts to wake up. After a minute she seems to notice the tears on her face, and the fact that you've been awake for a while.

"Sorry." She says. The sad part is that she sounds like she means it.

    [ ] "It's alright."

Please explain. Is it that NEXT's are, even without Primal Armor, more durable, agile, faster, and destructive than Normals/Cores? That they are, generally, easily capable of indefinite flight, and in some cases, infinite Overboost? That in Hard mode in 4A you fight 5 top-end pilots at once, and they are working together solely to kill your mass-murdering ass? That they are responsible for the great calamity that all the previous games mention, and thus have good reason for not being in any of the other games?

Or are you just talking about the new Pepsi drink?

You pause on the edge of the bed, Elsie wrapping one arm over your shoulder. "Alex?"

    "I just... last night..."

    "Yeah?"

"Was I hallucinating, or did we get attacked by fucking ninjas?"

You can tell from the look on her face that that wasn't the direction she was expecting you to go in. Then she looks thoughtful. Then she remembers "Oh shit, did we? What the hell. Mooch said he'd look into it. Let's go down and talk to him."

    >Last night.

The man sits in the chair, under a bright light in an otherwise empty room.

"So Mr Ninja, if that is your REAL NAME-" a voice sounds out, somewhere in shadows around him.

"That... what? I never said anything like-"

"I'll be asking the questions here. I'm impressed, you got past our security, bypassed the alarms... but can you tell me one thing?"

    "What?"

The figure steps out of the Shadows. He's wearing a pirate costume and a Tiki mask. "DO YOU KNOW WHY KIDS LOVE CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH?!?" He bellows, swinging a pair of nun-chucks with horrifying precision as he tap dances towards the chair.

    >A few minutes later.

The man in the chair looks lightly batter, and thoroughly confused.

In front of him is a man with blonde hair, drinking a cup of Coffee.

"So basically the deal is this. You tell us everything you know, or we just let mooch keep you for the night. Apparently he's kinda upset about the whole 'using his own dart-gun against him' thing."

The man in the chair smirks vindictively.

"He mentioned something about 'mutated honey badgers'."

His face quickly drops to mild horror. "I'll talk." He responds.

That's a possible theory, but I much prefer the one where 4 and 4A are prequels to any of the games that suffered a great calamity and is now, for the most part, ruled by megacorporations and less by regular government, since the National Dismantlement War in 4 saw to that aspect, while the Lynx war and then the war between ORCA and the Corporations in 4A saw to the near death of the planet, forcing humans to find alternate locations to live other than the surface, thus bringing about the subterranean Layered facilities you work in, and then outside of, in 3 through Last Raven.

So just thinking of things how much shit are we in?
-We lost our home, and most of the survivors are dealing with PTSD. We have no clue why Hope was destroyed, or why the one who destroyed it now seems to care for us. We have the huge debt of 3.5 million and then some to get Hope2 up and running successfully.
-Alex is possibly related to Hustler One, which could be very bad. Also is he psychic? a wizard? This makes Alex and Arianna targets if certain people know about it. Judging by how Arianna was treated by the ninja, they might already know about the family relationship. Alex is apparently wanted by an organization that even Hustler One seems to worry about. Also we got a million dollar stone around our neck if it's real, can you say I want to get mugged?
-Lawrence has been having trouble sleeping due to nightmares, also he is the most distant of the crew. We don't really know too much about him/what he is thinking.
-Obviously security on a personnel level is an issue, our ninja friend made that very clear. The Black Rock group is still out there I believe.
-Dave's connections, which so far have been good. However we don't know anything about them, and this could easily come to bite us in the back. Well he has been a good guy to us, I can't help but wonder if he hasn't made some enemies in the past or if all his connections are good.

-Mooch oh god. He has a pissed off dad, who doesn't seem to mind if he is dead. Oh yea he happens to be in the mob, this won't end well. Also he has a sentient core he sort of stole from his dad, another thing people want to steal. Also he has a wife in Canada, which not only could be used as a hostage, but i'm also kinda intimated by the woman who married Mooch.
-Alex an Elsie have a good relationship, but from all the shit thats been going down it's kinda hard to maintain. Not to mention our little eavesdropping could be bad if we handle it wrong. We spend enough time high on drugs it'll probably slip eventually. Oh yea she might be pregnant, but according to AC guy that is the least of our concern.
-That mechanic, wtf does this guy do in his spare time?
-From the Crunch thread we can possibly expect: Primal Armor, meeting strangers based on our past choices(that guy from the jazz club comes to mind), conventional forces(tanks, helicopters), Arm Forts, and on the field repairs.
-The fact we have an awesome, if sadist, DM and the dice hate us. the dice HATE us. Anything I missed?

    >Back to the present day.

Lawrence wastes no time letting you know the deal with the prisoner over breakfast.

"Apparently they work for an organization called 'The White Fang'. Some sort of Black Hat mercenary group. Some guy calling himself Legion payed them a couple million to try and grab you. Apparently they had some sort of weird device they shot you with, and that was part of why you were so out of it when we found you. after some guy showed up and apparently started shooting at both of you, they went for the second condition, that apparently pays a lot less: Killing you and having done with it. Apparently since your little trip to the doctors was last minute they didn't know you were even gone. So when they couldn't find you to just knife you, they opted to just drop the building on us, hoping to get you in the crossfire."

You back out of the cabinet one of the pods rest on, slightly hunched over. You hear something to your left.

You have less than a second to register the high velocity panicked woman before Ari smashes into your face tits first.

You are ALEX RASTON. Currently you've spotted three good looking opportunities.

There's a new A class bounty for a small bandit gang north of here. Would take you most of a day to get there and back.

Rayleonard, another tech corporation, is hiring security to follow them to recover some sort of failed experiment. Pays well, but they note that it will probably be quite risky.

There's also the option to put yourself in the Arena.

With the way we roll Ari might just kick our ass if we 1v1 her. Maybe do a quick check and if necessary have Dave shove his heat rod in her.

That suddenly doesn't sound like that good an idea. . .

    You go to the Simulators.

    "Mooch. Dave."

"Hey Alex, come to check on Ari?"

"Actually no, I was gonna get some practice in myself. Been taking a few too many beatings lately."

"Alright then, get over in your pod there, I'll set you up."

    "Thanks Mooch."

You get in the pod, and Mooch asks what kind of combat you want to run.

Desert, we're likely to have to deal with stuff in those an awful lot.

Jack-Bag, we can't always know what we're up against.

Hunted, learn to gracefully deal with multiple foes, also requires the most tactics and creativity.

"Not Bad, Ari." Dave comments getting out of the sim. "Only took you five minutes to tag me that time."

"You still didn't use any weapons. How is that that amazing?"

"You learned to read me fast, round one took you almost 15." He looks over at Mooch "How's Alex doing?"

    "Come see for yourself."

"He's running MY survival sim? Oh what the Fu- four kills with no direct attacks? We get it, you're good. This isn't practice, this is showing off."

"Wow," Ari says "My brother is that good?"

"When he takes off the kid gloves? Yeah. Thing is, he normally plays it safe in the real world. THIS is how he flies when he's backed into a corner. Remember the Nine-Ball fight recording? There's a REASON he was in charge of our patrol."

    Ari just watches carefully.

You decide the best course of action would be to run towards the Mesas. The rockier terrain gives you more to work with.

As you run you see that the two contacts from earlier are slowly gaining on you, and seem to have been joined by two slower moving contacts in the distance.

You then spot two more up ahead, in where you were GOING to set up your killing floor. Some people just have no consideration.

On the other hand, that did eat up a minute.

    >10 combat rounds left.

    >Back reserves? But that's where he's keeping his highly explosive over-weapon.

He twists, and for a second it looks like your blade is going to go wide.... and then it connects with that plasma reactor on his back.

He boosts away, and you boost back. you kill your optics when the explosion happens, and when they come back on, it seems as though your other opponent didn't think to.

He's dazed, and you have the drop on him.

    >I would like to take a minute to point out that it's almost 3am here, I'm ending the thread, we're kicking MSQ's ass in post count, and you fuckers haven't technically fired a shot yet.

    >We'll pick up here tomorrow, until then shire on you crazy diamonds.

Boolets are for those who don't have Davesque knife skills and CRAZY IVANS! down their sleeve.

Ok we'll probably just keep our distance and spray Shotgun Fist guy with our rifle and laugh as we're too far away to shoot effectively.

We should use the Beam Rifle for that.
    It doesn't use up bullets.
We can win without wasting a single cred in bullets.
