Well I'm with a front line regiment. We were originally organized to fight off an Ork incursion into our system. It was a small WAAAAAGH, and we beat them back after only three years. Then I get sent to this planet in the ass end of nowhere to fight Chaos for a few years before they take off to Emperor knows where. Getting hit by Eldar the whole time, both types. Then we follow the raiders to another system where we get stuck in with Tyranids. Now THAT was an awful four years. Add in a year of warp travel and about a year of cleanup all together and that's what I've been doing.

Member of the Kasrkin here. Eldar are faster than lightning and their moves are hard to follow, but they've got a limitation. They've got the same number of limbs and basic body plan as Man, so there's not really any moves they can pull that go beyond anything you regulars saw during boot camp. They just do them FASTER. The trick is to think a few seconds ahead. Parry sooner than you normally would. Duck before you think you need to duck. And don't let that speed freeze you stiff, just ACT. You can take the bastards down.

Kasrkin here, one of my squadmates uses a Lathe dagger for CQC. It greatly outperforms a standard mono-enhanced combat knife, but is pretty much as you say. My power blade usually bites just that little bit deeper, which is a gift from the Emperor against some of the harder-shelled things we've had to get stuck in against. Both weapons in a well-trained hand are good reasons for the enemies of Man to fill their trousers, though.

Which leads into a tip for those who are just getting their first issued power weapons: do not assume, ever, that your blade is going to shear through whatever parrying object the enemy interposes in its path on the first go. Even if you're lucky enough not to be swinging at something like an Eldar swordsman or an Ork with a power klaw, if the weapon it contacts is only in the field for a split-second, it may not be destroyed. Not being aware of this has gotten more good men slain in CQC than I ever want to see.

Well, they gotta do something when they're not performing sickening blood rituals or other xenos things, I figure. I mean, look, take psykers, we can screw around with minds, but minds that are to different are harder to effect, right?
