Twitter for next thread time: HereticalLoveQ

It had been just a quiet and rather enjoyable ride through arid stretches of desert, along a more or less suitable road. Had been, up until you hit Libya.

Hell, you'd even done your best to just scoot by a quite imposing group of young men in technicals as they razed a small town with rocket and zeus fire.

    Then, though, you'd seen him.

Dark black sunglasses, head on a swivel as he tracked you. Platinum box in his hand.

    Big fucking bike under him.

    Big fucking Hayabusa.

Your own BMW, quite fast, now feels wholly inadequate. You'd done your best to put some distance between you and the hunter, but he was gaining on you, and fast. You know you've only got a minute or so before he catches up to you, and even from here you can see him pulling a shotgun out of a holster on his back.

Which confirms all suspicions that he at least knows you are somehow associated with magic.

Thankfully you are far from entirely helpless. After all, you've got a witch who's over four thousand years old riding behind you.

...And a cache of guns that would make most action hero's green with envy.

    >action?

"Kiara, grab the AK out of the left saddlebag!" You shout back to the witch who glances over at the bag.

"We can't outrun him!?" She retorts even as she reaches back to grab the weapon.

"This bike is fast but not THAT fast." You jerk a thumb back at the hunter who is drawing ever closer.

Kiara shoves the AK against your arm to let you know she's got it.

"What are you trying to give that to me for?! Turn around and shoot him!"

"Huh?! I've never actually used one of these before!"

"Just do it!" You have the throttle buried, but that Hayabusa keeps getting closer. There's no way you can turn around to engage him, not accurately, but she certainly can.

"Use the thirty millimeter, aim in front of him!"

Kiara easily spins around on her seat, and you quickly hear the reports as she cracks off several long bursts along with the 30mm.

The hunter on the hayabusa is caught off guard, but the rounds go wide. He slowed down for a few moments, but now is regaining on you again. This time, he doesn't wait to get overly close before leveling his shotgun.

Instinctively you swerve to the right when you hear the shotgun blast, and the buckshot misses, one ball grazing your calf.

    "Kiara!"

    "Shut up! I'm trying!"

That may be, but she has yet to actually land any hits. So, you do the one thing that the hayabusa can't. A bit of offroading.

Slamming on your brakes and controlling the bike as it skids sideways, you let the hunter fly past you as you turn off into the sand. The BMW may not be as fast over an open road, but that fancy race bike of his will be next to worthless across the uneven and treacherous terrain.

    >walking
    >not full out dead sprinting there and back

You must have been either REALLY tired or have balls of steel.
    >> Papa-N !!z0ABcqUnNAP 04/02/12(Mon)17:43 No.18552029
Craning your neck, you look back in time to see the hunter's tires hit the sand as well. Unfortunately for him, his bike is far from capable in the sand.

Unfortunately, yours isn't going very fast.

Another blast of buckshot, this time one punches a rather nasty hole through the tailpipe of the BMW.

"Give me that!" You snatch the rifle from Kiara and jerk the bike sideways yet again.

Most unfortunate for the hunter, but you aren't a first time marksman. You line up the front post with the trench, focusing on the front sight, the sight poised over the hunter on the bike.

Squeezing the trigger, you let off two four-round bursts from the short AK. The first shreds the man's front tire, stopping his forward progress.

He cracks off a 12ga blast, the pattern going wide left. The hunter tries to get low behind his bike, and you wait for him to pop back up to fire again before squeezing off another burst.

The second time you hit him, not his bike, dead center in the chest with at least two rounds. You watch him crumple and fall behind his bike, dropping the shotgun as he grabs at his chest. Judging by the bulky gear he has on, you wouldn't be surprised if he also had some trauma plates, which would stop the 5.45x39. Even two rounds in the same location would be stopped by a proper plate...

Though he certainly won't be able to chase you down with a ruined bike in the middle of the Libyan desert with a few cracked ribs too well...

You let the bike idle as you think, holding it up with your right leg as you keep the rifle leveled.

A bit to the right of your sights, you notice the small platinum box resting atop the hot sand. You could just blow it open with a burst, but it seemed last time you did that, the soul burned itself out. Literally.

"There any way we can save it, somehow?" You ask, resting the bike on its kickstand as you slowly approach, gun at low ready.

"Not that I'm aware of, but its worth trying..."

"So you think we can crack it open without the soul going berserk?"

"Possible. I'd rather take it to the library, I may be able to find something there."

You are standing over the hunter now, who is still writhing in pain on the ground. You don't see any blood, which more or less confirms your theory that he was suited up with some armor.

Quickly you look him over for weapons, and toss a glock 22 at his side as far as you can. Quite far, given your enhanced strength. You do the same with the Remington shotgun, watching it bounce barrel over stock along the hard sand.

Turning back to the hunter, you put a foot on his chest and give it a slight push. This causes him to erupt in pained grunts and curses, weakly grabbing at your leg.

He tries to draw a knife out of his belt, which elicits a swift kick in the chin from you, and you push the hot muzzle of your AK to within millimeters of his eye.

With your other hand, wrapped in your shirt, you quickly pull off his earrings. He attempts to struggle, and you push the hot brake into his forehead until he stops.

"Fuck you." He hisses, "How the fuck have you lived long enough to do what you just did?"

Plus I don't think that she is even laying properly on the hood, or if Cuda is even that size. But This one's was far beyond anything that I've tried to draw before and I have no visual library for anything like this.

It'll be fun to see in a few years if I can do something like this properly.

You do your best to wrap up the small platinum box left untouched, using your shirt and some extra fabric which had lined the inside of one of the saddlebags. Kiara is freaking out at you the whole time, and you have to tell her to shut up before you just touch it on purpose.

Thankfully, you mange to hoist it into the bag without laying a finger on the actual metal. Upon securing it, you let out a long sigh.

"I can't concentrate with you flipping out, you know."

"Well I can't not panic when you're about to nearly touch platinum!" She retorts angrily.

"I wasn't about to touch it!" You snap, climbing back onto the bike with a frown, "By the way, is this going to mess with your mojo?"

"Close proximity with platinum? Yes, it will interfere somewhat, but we should be able to work around it."

    "Right..." You aren't overly convinced.

"Whatever, mortal, just get us out of here."

"Damn witches and their bullshit..." You grumble as you fire the BMW up and turn back for the road. Glancing back once, you notice the entire scene you'd left behind is no more, concealed under feet of sand. You can also still see the hunter walking back toward the village, strolling along with what appears to be almost jubilation.

    "Get going."

"I know, I know." You rev the bike hard and start flying across the pavement once more.

"So how many more are there, around here?"

"Dozens, too many, more than I want to deal with."

    "All armed with tracking souls?"

    "Yes." She affirms.

"Well fuck. Anything else I should know?"

"The order is outright searching for us now, even if they are on a separate assignment, they will drop it to come after us. We're going to have to be careful from here on."

    "More careful? We've been careful..."

You make it a point to lay low as you head through the rest of Libya. Thankfully the trip is quite quick without any kind of speed enforcement to slow you down. The rebels don't even give you more than a second glance any time you pass by them. At one point they had a road block set up, which you just scooted around and past before they could react.

Still, sometimes you take a moment to marvel at their ingenuity. BTR turrets mounted to the back of a pickup... Who would even come up with something like that? You can't help but grin and shake your head as you drive past.

Despite the rebels having what seems like good intent, you make it a point to not even stay in a town at night. Instead, you camp out in the desert, a bit off the road. Tomorrow you'll cross into Egypt, and it won't take overly long until you hit Alexandria. Checking your map once again, you pick out what appears to be the fastest route, and ignore it. You'll find a less obvious way, to avoid any unpleasant surprises that could possibly be lurking.

For tonight, though, its just you and the very starry sky above.

"And you." You smirk as you notice Kiara's look of disdain.

"You're sure that those fake documents will get us into the country? Even with all of those weapons?"

"These documents and a few grand for the son of a goat herder guarding the pass? Yeah, it won't be an issue."

You settle down on the sand, which is still warm to the touch, and polish off a bottle of water.

"So tomorrow we're going to the library, eh? Shit, if mom could only hear I traveled a few thousand miles to go to a LIBRARY of all places..." You smirk at the thought.

This is fucking Libya, and they can afford to dedicate dozens of short-lived tracking devices to it. They certainly didn't know that we were here and flood the countryside with these guys in advance.

They must be catching and executing literally thousands of witches per year worldwide in order to produce the kind of numbers that we're seeing here. Fucking hell. That requires a gigantic operation with hundreds of thousands of direct supporters at minimum, more likely millions. We've a big job ahead of us... and I really don't think that we'll be able to do it alone. We need to start gathering additional forces, and soon. What we've done so far isn't enough.

"Skillfully and with no small amount of magic. As it is now, only a powerful magic user who knew what to look for would be able to find it." She shrugs.

"...Its under the sea, isn't it."

"Its under the sea..." Kiara sighs.

"Figured. Anyone else know about the place?"

"Anyone still alive? Incredibly unlikely. I wanted to keep it hidden from all those who didn't deserve the knowledge, or those who sought to destroy it. There were many other magic users who knew of it at the time, but..." Kiara looks over at you, "I'm sure they are all gone by now. Not all were immortals, and those who were have likely been rended."

"Right..." You sink down into the sand with a long yawn.

Morning comes quite early in the desert, with nothing to block out the sun that quickly leaps up from the horizon. You turn over in protest, trying to stay asleep, but if the light didn't rouse you, the heat certainly does.

"I've decided, I hate the desert." You gripe as you stand up and shake the sand off as best you can. Though even then you can still feel it pretty much everywhere...

"Wake up and lets get this last bit done with." Kiara is already walking toward the bike.

The last leg of the trip through Libya is wholly unexciting, which you don't mind in the least. Sure enough, when you hit the border to Egypt, there is a guard station.

Though you don't speak a word of their language, and they don't speak English, you have the universal translator at your disposal.

"Passport." You smile, handing it to one of the guards. He flips it open to inspect it, before gazing around. With no one watching, he pulls the stack of bills from between the pages and hands the passport back.

"Ah, the power of money." You smirk and quickly make your way through the border crossing without further incident.

Once inside Egypt, you feel a bit more relaxed. Without an active war going on, you figure the Order doesn't have as much of a presence here at the moment. That and there aren't any roving gangs that might just accidentally hit you with rockets from an old soviet gunship mounted to their hilux.

Alexandria is a bit further than you had expected, not following the main roads. It gives you a little time to admire the scenery, sand, sand, sandy villages...

"Are we there yet?" You groan back at Kiara, who ignores you.

Here it's a bit different. The asphalt is usually broken by the winter cold and there's lots of dangerous roads. During the winter, the ice and snow make driving a whole different skillset. Most cars don't like all the minus degrees we gather to our celsius counters.

it's all a bit better around helsinki and inside the 3-ring, but that just means that all the drivers fall into false sense of security during summer.

After several hours and a stop for fresh food at a market and enough gas to top off the BMW's tank, you finally make it to the outskirts of Alexandria. You feel a lot less irritable with some real food in your stomach.

"Head to the coast." Kiara tells you, pointing with her finger, "About there."

Weaving through the busy city, in and out of traffic, it isn't exactly fast going. You try to keep a low profile, and thankfully you aren't the only one driving around something expensive, so you don't attract too much attention. It also helps that your bike is so dusty and sandy that it no longer appears to be brand new.

At long last, you reach the coast. A bright stretch of beach, deep blue waters of the Mediterranean beyond it.

    "Pretty." You comment.

"You should have seen it before it became so polluted." Kiara says quietly.

    "So... What now?"

"Well it depends. How do you feel about walking?"

    "Pardon?"

Five minutes later and you're wading along the the sea floor, slowly making your way along the sandy bottom. Kiara's got you covered for air again, which though a familiar situation, isn't one you like being in. The feeling of just walking, plodding across the sand and rocks, all while breathing fine despite being underwater... Its too eerie, just too damn weird.

"And been the only small vessel in the area when I open the gateway up? Hardly safe." Kiara chides.

You hold back further comment and just keep walking, which is painfully slow and boring. There isn't even any marine life to admire, just sand and rocks and... Statues?

"We've arrived." Kiara walks past you, extending out a hand to touch the well-worn statue resting on the seafloor. You can tell it had resembled a human at one time, but the endless force of the water had eroded it heavily. Now, it appeared just as a silhouette.

"How have divers not found this?" You marvel as you touch it yourself.

"Because when they come looking, they can't see it so they swim by. Unless you KNOW that it's here, you won't find it." Kiara bends down and blows against the sand. You can tell she's using magic, as the sand moves rapidly away from a large, circular stone.

This she touches with her palm, emanating a blue light that illuminates the water around it. The stone does something incredibly peculiar, and wiggles. Wiggles like she just poked jello.

"Through here." She points at the jellostone circle.

    "You're joking."

"...Just go!" She floats behind you and gives you a light push.

Separate out of the way path, and you kept the Sig on you.

With that push, you take a few steps forward, and right onto the magic Cosby stone.

Which you sink right through. The doorway indeed feels like jello as you drop through it, pressing against you as you fall. It is a very bizarre feeling, though not painful.

After a few seconds, you at long last drop to the floor beneath. A floor of white marble, a floor containing such a sight as you couldn't have imagined.

Shelves. Rows and rows of shelves and desks and tables. It extends all the way to the far wall, which is none too close. You marvel at the sheer size of it all, there have to be at least a few hundred shelves and half that many desks and tables.

Then you see all of the scrolls and tablets.

Stacks upon stacks of scrolls, each bound neatly with a string. Thousands. Maybe tens of thousands. Tablets of nearly every size and shape adorn yet more shelves.

"This is..." You just shake your head, mouth agape.

"The collective knowledge of western civilization at it's time. The most extensive recollection of ancient history... And of magic." Kiara doesn't appear stunned like you are, though you guess its because she's been here before, many times.

"How are you even going to find anything in here?" You continue staring around. It would take years to read through all of these scrolls, if you could even read them.

"As though I'd have to read through them all manually..." Kiara chuckles before nodding at a far row of shelves, "The Librarian will know where to find what we seek."

At her words, something shuffles from beyond the scrolls, and your hand moves subconsciously to the pistol at your side.

You can hear clanking, creaking sounds now as whatever it is approaches. Your eyes become strained as you stare hard, waiting for some kind of terrible monstrosity to come lurching out.

Instead, you see a suit of worn and tarnished bronze armor come walking out. Where the armor doesn't cover appears bright, almost a white glow. Instead of a sword or spear, it carries a large scroll in one hand and an hourglass in the other.

"Ah, Ruin..." The suit says, its voice sounds hollow, as though echoing from some kind of wooden instrument, "So good of you to come back, the Library has been so quiet for so long I was beginning to wonder if perhaps it had been forgotten."

"It nearly was, old man. You know I haven't come back for just a visit."

"This place is pretty damn cool..." You almost feel giddy. Giddy about a library... Well now you don't know how you feel.

"Hmm? Being excited over a library is nothing to be ashamed of."

"Yeah well... Anyways, who is this guy?" You gesture at the strange suit of armor which stands silently.

"A construct, of sorts. Made by a wizard with a fairly unique set of skills while this place was still in the open, unhidden. He serves as the librarian, the one charged with maintaining this place."

Even at Kiara's words, the Librarian stands silent.

"So what can I call him?"

    "The Librarian..."

"Too stiff, going with Bob. That cool with you, Bob?" You ask the construct.

"If it is your desire." The Librarian says blankly.

    "Bob it is."

    "Idiot..." Kiara sighs.

    "How about a tour, Bob-o?"

"There is little to tour here, mortal. Too little and too time consuming..." Kiara tuns to Bob.

"I'm seeking information on Scipio Africanus, specifically the family he left behind. I think they might know where my body is, if any are still around."

"Your body? Certainly, Ruin. G13, down these stacks, take a left after seven rows." Bop points out the location and Kiara briskly walks away.

Meh, who cares about the Original Kama Sutra, AFAIK none of it was lost and the Richard F Burton translation has really good footnotes.

What we really lost was all of the Mediterranean poetry, history, blueprints for inventions and so on. We lost major portions if not all of the work of buckets of poets and authors, not to mention that if it hadn't burned it might of dragged people out of the dark ages much faster due to all of technical and scientific texts. We probably lost 700,000 manuscripts of various types though a good amount of there were replaceable.

"I'm going to need a copy of that to go, but first, show me where to find stuff about Ruin."

"Certainly, right this way." The construct bows slightly, before leading you off through the stacks.

You follow him past rows upon rows of ancient scrolls, noticing none are dusty. Bob must be tasked with keeping them safe and in shape as well.

"Hey Bob. Do you know why she's called Ruin? Did she identify herself that way?"

"Herself, sir? No, not in the beginning. When this library was still in heavy use, Ruin is what she was called by others. Eventually she herself picked up on the name it would seem, though I digress I'm no judge of human character, I believe that the name was being used in spite."

You almost stop walking for a moment, but realize that the suit of armor isn't, so you hurry back up to keep pace.

"So she didn't come up with that name?"

"I don't believe so, it certainly isn't how I perceived it. Though again, I am not and never was human." Bob stops at a shelf with just a handful of scrolls resting upon it. These look quite tattered, different from the others, most of which appear to be in good shape.

It probably wasn't unique at the time. Cicero made references to similar devices and you don't just construct something that complex, there would have been prototypes for something like this and the area of Greece it was supposed to come from was known for making mechanical wonders.

Sadly we lost records of devices like these and the blueprints for their construction during one of the many destructions of the Library of Alexandria.

"These, here." Bob tells you, handing over two small scrolls bound in copper wire.

You follow him to a table, where you take a seat on a marble bench and gently unwrap the scroll. Giving it a look, you realize quickly that you don't read whatever language it's written in.

    "Uh, Bob... Mind translating?"

"The glass next to you, sir." His hollow voice responds as he points toward a small circular piece of hand-blown glass resting upright against a cracked wooden rest.

Gingerly you pick up the glass and raise it toward your eye. At once you can understand the text in front of you, and at the same time you don't know how. It doesn't change to English or Russian, you simply can read whatever it is that is written, despite not understanding it. Quite a bizarre feeling.

With Bob standing beside you, you start reading.

The text is written strangely and seems to concern itself more with the happenings of several other magic users, in particular a wizard with a knack for bodybuilding. Until you happen upon another name in particular. Ruin.

"Few have known conversation with Ruin, fewer still any personable. It is perhaps best to avoid her, as she is prone to lashing out when angered. Her power lends itself well to destructive forces rather than creation, power she refuses to lend to the five Magos. Her aloof nature and refusal to comply resulted in the great catastrophe of the city. By decree of the Magos, she is to be shunned by all."

The small blurb of text ends, and with a frown you look over at Bob.

"Do you know what city they are referring to?"

"The city, sir? Atlantis, of course. The city of five, sent to the bottom of the sea during the great battle bearing the same name as the city."

"Interesting read, eh?" Comes a slightly bemused and quite masculine voice from behind you.

Your lips move on their own, refusing to form words as you reach around in a desperate search for a pen so that he can autograph your everything.

    Socrates just watches, looking amused.

    "D-died?" You finally blabber.

"Ah yes, so it was written. What they don't tell you, is that I faked it!" He says excitedly, gesturing with an outstretched finger.

    "Why?"

"Why? Because I didn't feel like dying, not that I could, by that point. I'll admit my powers were never incredibly strong, but powerful enough to give me the key to my own immortality."

You suddenly and rightfully feel a bit leery, at this man and his sudden claim. Even if he does possess a great white beard so wisdom-filled to make even Gandalf envious...

"I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing." You tell him, recanting what little you know about him.

"I know nothing." He smiles with a twinkle in his eye, "Even after spending so long down in here."

"Last." You extend out a hand, which the old man shakes.

"Are you the only other person down here?" You ask, looking around, half expecting ninjas.

"Quite, aside from you and Bob here." He chuckles, "I can admit, it has been rather lonesome."

"I can imagine. So you just spent the last thousand or so years reading through all of this?"

"Reading?" His bushy eyebrows furrow, "I've also done a bit of writing, and far too much drinking." He laughs and gestures at a cup of something in his other hand.

    "And you know English... How?"

"Because you know it. My meager powers were quite attuned for quickly picking up information, after all." He reaches out to Bob, who hands him some kind of small amphora. Out of this, Socrates pours more mead into his cup before taking a long drink.

"Where does the wine come from?"

"Eh? Magic." Socrates shrugs, pointing at Bob, "He brews up quite the batch of mead."

You sit back down on the bench, trying to formulate all your ideas inside your head into some kind of coherent thought pattern.

"So you've met Kiara... Ruin, before?"

"A few times, here in the library mostly. One of the few people who knew my real name, never could hide anything from that girl." Socrates notices you staring and reaches back to Bob, who produces a second cup, which Socrates fills before handing it to you.

The two of you sit across from each other, both drinking heavily. Socrates is completely different than the marble, stoic figure that you'd been taught about in high school. He's pretty damn funny, very insightful, and kind of a massive pervert.

"...and THAT is why you don't go after a Spartan's daughter!" He finishes, both of you erupting into half-drunken laughter.

"So tell me more about Ruin... I'm kind of curious." You ask, reaching out for your cup of mead, quite aware you're past just a buzz now.

"Ruin, eh? She's a dark girl, that one. Never one for idle chat or general revelry. I know the five Magos sought to use her powers to increase their mastery over the sea, and she refused them. There was a battle with magic the scale of which perhaps hasn't been seen since... And she sunk the city itself, submerged it under the waves and sent it to the ocean floor." Socrates pauses and sets his drink down.

"She never did get over that, I don't think. Wouldn't hardly talk to anyone, kept to herself, and then one day she was gone." Socrates makes a vanishing gesture with his hand, and finishes off his cup.

"I mean, she was rended by the order, right? But I helped her get two pieces back together and we're working on the third... I just don't get why she acts like... Well... Her!"

    The old man chuckles sagely.

"Here, I believe this might answer the question better than I can say it."

He holds out a scroll, a very small one. You bring the glass up to your face and read the outside. "What women want." With "Socrates" underneath it.

Opening it up, you are surprised to see only one line of text.

"Women don't know what they want."

Socrates notices your expression and laughs quite heartily, almost spilling his drink.

"At the end of the day, Ruin is a woman. A powerful, immortal one, perhaps, but a woman nonetheless."

"Didn't think you were misonogynistic..." You frown.

He extends you another scroll entitled "What men want." Inside, you find a single line again: "Wine, women, and wealth."

"You know, that's... Well, yeah I think that pretty much sums it all up..." You shrug, unable to argue.

"So why not go back? To the outside world? I mean, aren't you going insane down here?"

"To the outside world, eh? A complicated issue. I didn't wish to reveal myself, having faked my own death. Nor was or am I overly eager to return..." He frowns as he stares at your forehead, "Judging by what I can see within your mind, I can't say that I made the wrong choice. The world has lost its way." He says simply.

You lean back and take a long drink, thinking that statement over.

"Hmm, a box, eh? Platinum complicates all magic, absorbs it. I don't know much about this rending process, it was developed after I began my stay here... If I had to guess... I would speculate that like water, you can simply find another vessel to pour the soul into, lest it splash upon the ground."

"So put it in a different box?"

"One less prison-like, perhaps yes. It sounds as though the soul is furious upon its release, so you would do well to calm it rather than simply contain it. This is all just speculation, though." Socrates frowns.

"Well its worth a try, I guess. Say, I don't want this to be weird, but... Can I have an autograph?"

"Certainly, Last, certainly." Socrates laughs, before extending out a quill and a piece of papyrus. He quickly jots down a series of Greek characters, and signs it in perfect cursive below.

"Witch hunters existed, though they were a minority. Magic was powerful during my time, worshiped, even. There was no central Order as there exists now, but rogue fragments, pockets of men who sought to kill off the non-immortal witches in the night."

You sigh, you'd hoped he would have had some combat advice or something.

"Well how about killing off an immortal, but one who isn't a magic user? A man cursed with immortality."

Socrates raises an eyebrow at the question.

"Ah, not often that you hear about such a curse. Normal means will likely have no result, as you already know. I'm no warrior, but I believe if you found a way to sever a curse rather than his neck, you would perhaps find a solution to ending him."

"Break the curse, eh? Sounds more difficult than just leveling him with a SMAW until he quits regrowing..." You gripe, but you aren't surprised there are no easy shortcuts for something like this.

"Well you seem like you've remained hidden down here for a long time, what's the trick, to hiding magic? I'm tired of pinging radar wherever I go because miss "Despoiler of Sequins" can't mask her presence."

"I'm hidden merely because I am here. This is a safe place, a place obscured with powerful magic and at the same time, deep beneath the ocean surface. Rather than simply try to mask her, why not give them too many things to search for? Pigeons to every far corner of the earth, irradiated with magic, something like that?" "So what do you think happens if we do topple the Order? You can see my mind, so you must know how powerful they've become..."

Socrates sets his own cup down and nods slowly, for a few moments.

"There is no easy way to answer that, I'm sure. But to do right based on the principle of righteousness is far better than allowing wrong based on fear. As soon as you surrender to your fears, they own you."

"So we should be fine as long as we're doing the right thing?"

"You should be content knowing what you did was the right thing, regardless of consequence. At the same time, make sure what you feel is right is actually right. What one man holds as truth is not always or even often the same as the views of another." Socrates picks his cup back up again, and you do the same.

"And if I do the right thing and it leaves some kind of power vacuum, or something... Worse?"

"Then it wouldn't be the first time that man has been left with just a flint to rekindle a fire."

"Seeing as the old fool isn't likely to come with us, yes."

First he isn't a fool, he had a brilliant idea, why don't you find a flock of birds, a parking lot of cars and a school of fish or something like that, toss a pile of magic on top of it and let them ping all the radars that the Order has. Also have you seen his writing collection, man is a literary genius with a grasp of people.

Also for killing the Pheonix instead of dropping a building on him can't you being the mighty witch of the west trace his curse back to it's origin and sever it there?

Eh, Bob, who was the last visitor, if it was Kiara who was the last visitor before Kiara and what were they looking for?

Lastly I'm drunk, my new best bud is here, and it's late at night so we may as well spend the night here.

"Yeah well I think he's a pretty cool dude..." You grumble as you rise out of the seat, "Had a great idea for hiding from the Order. See we get a bunch of birds and then we..."

"Irradiate them, yes I know, I can read your mind faster than you can say it, you drunk." Kiara sighs.

"Irradiate th... Oh, well yeah you get it."

"Have there been any other visitors, Librarian? Any more recent than him? Anyone I should know about?" She points at Socrates.

Bob seems to think for a moment, before it nods its helmet.

"Magos Arcinter was here last, approximately..."

"So he's still alive..." Kiara hisses, making no effort to conceal her rage, her purple eyes flashing in anger.

"Who is?" You ask, a bit confused.

"A trifle I'll have to contend with, a matter I thought I'd already resolved." The witch replies through gritted teeth, and you can almost see the gears in her head turning.

"Is it the dude with the sword? Because Socrates here thinks that sword is probably meteoric platinum forged by some wizard somewhere."

"No, you idiot, it isn't the Phoenix."

    "Then who?" You frown.

"One of the Five of Atlantis, the man who thought he could bend the seas themselves to his will, and use me to do it. What was he looking for, Librarian?"

"He wouldn't say, he left in quite a hurry." Bob says, sounding distressed, "I tried to stop him, but he made off with it..."

    "With WHAT?!" Kiara seethes.

So 1100 years ago this guy stole the Body of Alexander, honestly whatever plans he had for it are probably already far in effect and we can't prioritize dealing with him over getting your body back.

Sure he's probably not dead but he's not a current priority, unless he's mixed up with the Order, which is possible.

What exactly can his body do anyhow, was he rended and he's putting him back together? Or is it just a powerful magic focus or rallying point or some shit like that.

"Than wait, wouldn't the order have already caught up to him by now? If he is some kind of super wizard or something?"

Kiara turns to you, looking annoyed.

"Because he isn't the average immortal, like I am. He doesn't exist by magic. That man... He survives like a virus, taking over a new host when he is near death. Its impossible to even know what he looks like, what he could be doing..." She trails off, apparently too worked up to continue.

"And the body? Whats so special about some old bones, or dust, or whatever?"

"I... I don't know... I expected him to go after something more obvious, the shield of Achilles perhaps... I know Alexander was a powerful magic user, though not immortal..." Kiara stops and shakes her head, clearly out of ideas.

"So what? Just another dude we have to take on? He involved with the Order? Just to spite you?"

"With the Order? Unlikely, he would have no taste for killing off his own, those that didn't disobey him, at least. He would be seeking to recruit them instead." She replies.

"So what are you so worried about?" You frown.

"I'm worried because that man would stop at nothing to achieve whatever his goal is. He didn't stop even when it meant the absolute destruction of his city, he certainly isn't going to stop now."

"Whatever, I'm not worried. I'll just super punch him back down to Atlantis to sleep with the fishes." You smirk.

Also in addition to evading the Order, you have to watch out for immigration.

You use your super strength to remove stains from floors at your janitorial night job.

I don't really think this qualifies.

Seems I misread that as our arm being across our chest...it makes more sense now, thanks.

...I'd play it. If only for the inevitable, hilarity ensues.

She'll play it off that our subconscious moved her like that, and we'll have no way to call her on it.

    But we know the truth.

    Just throwing this out there:

This quest is so perfect for "HUE" tangents, anyone else think it'd be a neat idea if papa or other quest authors guest-authored non-canon oneshots?

Personally I think Trucker & Witch would have been
hilarious, Goat & Witch was pretty great too
