Prune Barge Shuffle session #2
03/26/12(Mon)23:57 No.18471725An hour after that, Admiral Willis Lee was smiling.
“Alright, that’s enough for today. Hail the rest of the task force, and congratulate them on their shooting. Secure from battle stations, and make ready for sea,” he ordered as he walked out of the conning tower. After 5 minutes, control of the ship was passed up to the navigation bridge again, and Captain Bunkley, Lieutenant Mackintosh, and the quartermaster joined him outside.
“Flawless work on the conn, Mr. Mackintosh, as always. And flawless shiphandling, quartermaster. You’re released to get in line for chow first,” Lee said with a nod. The quartermaster saluted, and then jogged off to claim his rightful place.
As the three began to walk towards the companionway to the navigation bridge, Admiral Lee turns to the two following him. “Are you sure?”
“That’s what his transfer orders said, sir,” said Captain Bunkley as the group climbed the steps. “Highest possible marks in marksmanship, no matter the weapon. And today, he managed a flat 96% accuracy rate as a green commander with a green gun crew on an AA gun, while seasick,” The sounds of retching coming from ahead of them seemed to make the point.
Admiral Lee nods. “Indeed. And what about you, Lieutenant? You ran into him ashore, didn’t you?”
“Yes sir. I could feel it. It’s what made me stop wondering why a butterbar fresh out of OCS got assigned to a battleship,” Mackintosh replied.
Lee nods again. “Well then, it’s time we give him a proper introduction. My quarters, at 2000. Be there ten minutes beforehand, Mr. Mackintosh. I’ll send word down to the two in engineering. Good day, gentlemen.” And with that, the three go their separate ways. |
