39 KB Zerg Quest LXXIX Cerebrate Anon 03/21/12(Wed)20:56 No.18410001
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18304082/

Beneath our fleet, the homeworld of Dyles' parasitic amphibians hovers in space, its surface still a shallow sea of molten rock, slowly cooling as all memory of Dyles' consciousness-holding ecosystem is sterilized by the heat. In the sky above, we sterilize the derelict craft of his fleet from their still-writhing but mindless occupants, and we secure the orbital platform.

Dyles is dead. The UED will surely discover this soon, but they are unaware as of yet.

We find ourselves briefly without foes. We wonder, for a moment, whether this has ever been the case, during our life. We cannot remember a time like this.
    >> Anonymous 03/21/12(Wed)21:04 No.18410085
Well I guess that means it's time for colonylord spam.
    >> Anonymous 03/21/12(Wed)21:06 No.18410120
    >>18410001

This might be dangerous, but we should see if we can safely secure and transport any remnants of the Dyles parasite that have survived the Dylesmind's death. Perhaps we can comb it for genetic secrets or a way to prevent us from getting psi-disrupted or mind-controlled in the future. If this is possible and we agree to do so, we should do it under the utmost security and caution; have terminators manipulate stuff, have it not go into viable Zerg organisms or very psionically inclined breeds, etc.

We should notify Kerrigan about our victory over Dyles. The UED should know as well, eventually, but how are we going to explain how we got a hold of planet-glassing weaponry? And we can't just keep the UED in the dark about this forever. They're going to wonder where Dyles went (or notice the worlds that Dyles holds right now are going completely berserk in his death throes). We're going to need an explanation for this that'll sound good.
    >> Anonymous 03/21/12(Wed)21:08 No.18410139
Also, as one person suggested, we should see if we can include short-range psi-emitters to prevent mind-controlling from foreign psionic entities. Also, see if we can get a more easily deployable/durable form of the psi-cannon ready.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 03/21/12(Wed)21:13 No.18410199
    >>18410120
We already mentioned our glassing capabilities to the UED. We didn't tell them how we do it, but they know we can.

Kerrigan is already aware of our victory. She's glad that the threat is past, and suggests that we strike at every UED colony at once while they're still weak and off-guard. That's our sister, alright.

Are we sure we want to keep some of the parasites?

    >>18410139
    Include them where?

    >Psi-cannons//Psi-emitters

Including it as upgrades on our Terran assets would be the easiest step to integrate the two new technologies into our forces. Or seeing if we can include it on Overlords or something.

But still, perhaps we should see if we can cook up a fast dodgy unit that can blast psi-cannon stuff or just hang out and do the psi-emitter thingy. I'm leaning towards an entirely mechanical unit, as those are usually immune to psionic influence. A Zerg unit that's carrying a psi-emitter should be fairly well-protected against mind-control, seeing as how it's practically nestled next to the thing that emits huge psionic controlling waves.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 03/21/12(Wed)21:39 No.18410499
    >>18410448
So, you'd like to start attaching Psi-Cannons to various Terran units? Accountantbrate quietly grumbles about the cost of such a refit operation, but we never know if things are really as expensive as Accountantbrate makes them seem.

    Why, that's amazing, work schedule!
    >> Anonymous 03/21/12(Wed)21:48 No.18410575
Perhaps we should inquire if Kerrigan would like psi-cannon capability. After that narrowly averted Duran incident (in which we made the universe a much less complicated place in just one session), she may appreciate a device that would enable her to re-assert influence on stolen units.

As for attacking the UED, I'm not 100% on it. But that may be because I'm a human player and not actually a Zerg Cerebrate. Attacking them right now may make Kerrigan's job of infiltrating more difficult; since she's more acquainted with humanity than with protoss, she might be able to gain control of the UED without them even knowing it, if given enough time.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 03/21/12(Wed)21:56 No.18410655
    >>18410575
    (Oh! That reminds me.)

Toaster gently informs us that we have more or less enough missiles packed with infestation virus to simultaneously hit every UED planet, as ordered. Labbrate takes a moment to brief the younger cerebrates (as well as the much older ones who just weren't there) on the virus we developed to infest humans slowly, over the course of about a week, and the rudimentary missile deployment system we developed for it. Nargil is astounded that we managed to do this.

Kerrigan jumps on the Psi-Cannon when we offer it to her. We guess she's a little paranoid, after that Duran incident.

    >> Anonymous 03/21/12(Wed)21:57 No.18410666
The psi-emitters could be distributed to storage across our holdings to be brought out in the event of psionic attack. It's not the sort of thing you experience every day, and emitters aren't easy to come by.

I'll vote for killing the UED. If we pull it off, then we have a much, MUCH larger zone of control, larger than the entire setting of Starcraft and Broodwar.

We'll need to cooperate closely with Kerrigan (yay siblings working together!). She can start infiltrating while we get our guys into position. When we're both ready, she pulls a decapitation strike at key personnel and locations while we bomb the fuck out of everything.

"Cerebrate, I have infested a small number of Directorate Cabinet staff. Not the actual voting members, mind you, but their secretaries, aides, and in one case, spouse. The Director of Agriculture will be infested by her own husband. I'm sure there are Freudian undertones, there. In any case, I have a vast array of infested agents in UED space, and if you attack now, I think I can create enough confusion to ensure that they can't properly deal with the situation."

I kinda agree. The Protoss seemed to be only marginally aware of the UED and what they're doing... but we can't assume that they're completely myopic as far as this is concerned. While I'm pretty sure that they can't have their own Zerg spies, not all of the Dark Templar were accounted for; they're pretty sneaky bastards when they want to be. If Khas is at least as smart as a summer squash, he'll probably have his own super-sekrit methods of prying into our business without us knowing. For all we know, the Protoss already contacted the UED before we came across them, and have been maintaining careful lines of communication ever since.

Even if this is not the case, a full-on attack by the Protoss while we're attacking the UED won't go over real well. Before we commit forces to this, we should at least get our Cerebrates to account for our forces vs. projected Protoss growth.

Hmm. This may work out better than it has for the Morians, since the UED Terrans seem particularly keen on cybernetic upgrades.

If we pitch a veeeery subtle form of infestation as "Biological Augmentation" or such, perhaps we can worm our way into their society without even knowing. We could be like some sorta Zerg version of Apple or something. And if they decide "hey fuck you Zerg" and go to war with us, we'll have plenty of sleeper agents within their ranks.

The real hurdles here will be:

1.) making a strain of infestation that can lay idle for possibly years on end, confer biological advantages to their hosts, and be able to pass off as fairly innocuous.

    2.) MARKETING!

If the "slow infestation" plan can work with the UED, we could use our infestation missile stockpile on Protoss and Confederate worlds.

Damnit, /tg/! Anyway, so we're all for the economic domination plan?

Also, the Protoss Felanis and the remnants of his expeditionary force to eliminate Dyles has returned to the Koprulu Sector. He has managed to maintain his position, despite the disgrace of retreating. He demands an up-to-date map of Dyles-controlled territory so that he may plan his new attack strategy.

The Confederacy Protectorate already infected themselves. Willingly I might add.

I wonder if the infection left them with free will as part of the swarm. Would be interesting.

The swarm as a single solitary hivemind would not innovate nor continue to grow. Some free anarchy would be required for further growth.

Actually, they're not all infested. Some of them are accepting genetic augmentation to strengthen their genepool, and we've got a booming business in artificial insemination for diversification, but the actual infestation centers are pretty quiet. A few suicides or over-ambitious folks walk in from time to time, but we're mostly offering legitimate help to keep them alive.

Granted, we've essentially taken over every facet of government and corporate control of their lives, but the majority of Moria and Tarsonis' populations are free Terrans.

I expect PURGE IT WITH FIRE since their attempts to capture and study them have obviously gone wrong.

If so, we might be able to keep up the pretense of war and they'll never attempt to board one of our ships. If any appear to start getting captured, we can have them self-destruct.

    >Decent 'toss

I guess we can gather some ships from dyle's fleet and let him at them, after crewing them with skeleton crews. First though, we ask his fleet composition and say we hd a fleet that 'escaped'. Give it a size just big enough to give him trouble.

We really don't have any idea what we're doing when it comes to that; we might be able to consult Kerrigan for some outdated information, but other than that we have no references or idea of their political structure. Or who the major players are.

With that said, we probably don't want to come across as assholes. If so, the polite thing to do would be to notify him that the Dyles entity has been neutralized. If he demands proof, we can send him an updated map on Dyles-held worlds and such, but warn him that the UED didn't take kindly to another alien faction entering the war without them knowing.

    Well, then...

We give Felanis a false map of UED space, with most of Dyles' planets listed as reclaimed. The worlds we leave behind are mostly inglorious in defense, with a few targets explicitly designed to draw the Protoss' eye. He sets out immediately. We arrange for Salem Saberhagen to allocate and man an adequate number of ships to put on the show in a couple of weeks, when the fleet ought to arrive.

We tell Kerrigan and Accountantbrate about our plan. Kerrigan sighs, complaining that we are wasting another opportunity to strike while they are weak. Accountantbrate is ecstatic at the prospect of squeezing wealth out of the Swarm's enemies without even having to devote resources to killing them, first.

It sets immediately to work, collaborating with Kerrigan to gain contacts and starting capital.

(roll 2d100 for how Accountantbrate starts. Also, now what?)

    >>18411921
    >>18411937
It's relatively easy for Kerrigan to set up companies for Accountantbrate, but subterfuge and controlling Terrans is all very new to Accountantbrate. It stumbles a few times, and the new companies don't immediately find success, and there are fewer investors than planned. That's alright, though. Accountantbrate is used to consolidating resources to build an empire, and it assures us that mistakes will be easy to cover up once the money comes.

We've never seen Accountantbrate so devious, before!

I'm thinking that we should broach the subject a bit lightly and indirectly.

Say that we attacked what we believed to be a major Dyles colony, and that we observed very heavy defenses there. We managed to eliminate the presence of the parasite there with significant losses on our side, and noticed a very large psionic pulse after we cleared out the place. This psi-pulse seemed to have a profound effect on other Dyles-controlled units; we want to know if they've seen any marked change in Dyles' behavior on their side or if this is a localized phenomena.

We send a barebones telegram-style message to the Directorate government. About half an hour later, before the information has been officially released, we simply can't resist. We break into our ZergTV across the UED with a black-and-white report from a hydralisk in a suit, talking a terse early-20th-century newscaster voice.

"We apologize for interrupting your regular broadcast. This just in from the ZergTV news desk: A daring raid at 1430 hours (Sol Standard Time) by the forces of the Zerg Swarm under the command of the Cerebrate, into an uncharted hostile system, has resulted in the utter destruction of the directing consciousness behind the amphibian parasitic menace known as Dyles. Initial reports indicate that complete destruction of the system has resulted from the attack, and all active enemy forces have been disabled. The Swarm's representatives had this to say: "This threat to galactic life has been purged. Human and Zerg alike have been saved from the tyranny of this oppressive life form. Our condolences go out to the brave Terrans who assisted us in this fight." UED officials were contacted with this information, but chose not to comment. I repeat: the war is over. The Swarm has defeated the Toads. The war...is over. More on this as events develop. Until then, we return you to Rock 359, already in progress."

So, how are we going to get those infestation spores into UED planets without it looking like an attack by the swarm now that we've announced the end of the war?
    >> Anonymous 03/22/12(Thu)02:25 No.18413407
    >>18413323
    Bio-augments.
We have Labbrate and Nargil create a new strain of infestation, one that can keep the psionic connection dormant until a specific signal on a psi carrier wave is received.

We market it as bio-augments to compete with the UED's own cybernetics.
People will buy them to be stronger, faster, more physically robust.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 03/22/12(Thu)02:52 No.18413623
    >>18413407
A virus that waits for a signal was impossible before, and it's impossible now.

    >>18413323
    That's the question.
    >> Anonymous 03/22/12(Thu)03:24 No.18413890
    >>18413623
The idea is not for a virus. The idea is that the bio-augment has a psionic gland and an organ that contains the highly virulent infestation retroviruses. The augments work as advertised until a psi signal is sent, which releases the infestation virus directly into the bloodstream.

I think we worked on something like this in the past, and we shelved it when we got the infestation missiles.
