The empire of Kashir is a vast place whose borders are defined by encroaching desert wastes. As the war drew on, dry sands and droughts began to creep, like a curse on a farmer's lands. This erratic desertification was due in most part to the black material we found in each of the floating isles. Ibonyte as it had come to be known, was a cursed black mineral, said to be the dead deposits of Kashir's wasteful magics. Sacrifices, ritual or not were even used to harvest more of it.

In the deserts of Kashir, its people believed in the high ones, the Royal castes who lived on high in floating islands and threw themselves to these sacrifices in the hopes to join the rulers of heaven. Little do they know how right they were.

The contrast between the Kashir elites and the low ones could not be anymore distinct. In these holy places, fertile land can be seen, waters flow endlessly forth, and material delights are part of everyday.

In the lowlands, work conditions are fierce, the land is horrid, and the people are rallied worse than the work gangs in Laboria. Worst of all, their work is seen as a triviality to the high ones, who simply conjure up their own works through this black magic. It is believed that the low ones were punished to live such a life due to their failure to serve the gods. The high ones are rewarded through sheer inheritance and nepotis-

" Beatrix ? " Vilkas calls out from his corner of the command table.

    " Y- yes your majesty ? "

" D- Do you happen to remember how my father ruled ? I read through the books but it never feels like someone who could be my father "

" Your father ?" Beatrix recalls, " I was just a soldier myself once. When your father wished to unite the 4 corners of the Valknyres. After Ascheron had defeated our 4 oppressors, it took generations after him to simply unite us as a whole. Your father, Lord Fiergraz ruled only a small portion of Voss but remained to be the last descendant of that line.
However, the Von Voss line frayed when the turmoils of war ended, and when peace settled it was as if the fate of the Killer Kings could be put to rest. And so the man ruled a small county humbly,
hoping to have lived a Vosskon lifestyle at the height of peace. "

    " Peace ? what's that like ?" Vilkas blinks.

Beatrix smirks and ruffles his hair.

Ibonyte has been the crux of the High One's existence, it could be surmised that for as long as the Kashir Empire existed, this substance was used almost exclusively to make Kashir a great Empire as it is, built on mortal exploitation, polytheism, fear and control.

We have surmised that a great reserve of ibonyte exists on these skylands, and that winning the land war below is crucial if we are to collect on it's fallen deposits. If we are to truly cripple the Kashir, we must shift our attention to their source of power, and if at all possible outpace them in it's applicable uses.

With one Skyland down, Thane's armies have secured the surrounding area, such that a comissioned civilian work-gang could harvest a large quantity of it.

Incoming Communication Wafer from Lab 10
    Priority: Silver

    Properties of Ibonyte basic:

Ibonyte is a rather tempermental substance that is unstable when extracted in its pure form. It has an irregular atomic density that then "copies" the materials local to it if "bonded". Certain charges excite Ibonyte which lends itself to it's rarity. Chief of which is water which will then dissolve the ibonyte and coverts its mass into MORE water.

On the flipside however, Ibonyte can be seen suspended in oils, waxes, and various lipids without denaturing it. In fact, oil has been observed to denature and "preserve" ibonyte. When kept in this state, Plastic Ibonyte can be converted to whatever state and then seperated from the ibonyte in order to use it.

[The Kashir does this by lighting the oil on fire. Dai bombers are trained to ingest and detonate these ibonyte bombs by will. It's also possible they can use the ibonyte coursing through their bodies to change color, much like a chameleon ]
    >> Oderkonn !9phgYvH10U 03/14/12(Wed)20:47 No.18329623
On the other hand, blood is absorbed by Ibonyte. Despite its water-based properties, blood only softens the hard outer layer, making the substance tender and liquid. However, the blood quickly gains a darkness and fuses with Ibonyte. There is however very very little change in it's weight after doing this- even after exposing it to 20 gallons of cattle blood.

It can be observed that if pure ibonyte was ever exposed to a warm body environment, it would quickly collapse that body's moisture, instantly killing most humans. The Kashir has managed this exotic feat probably through sheer trial.

Work on introducing very low "dillutions" of ibonyte into biological cultures for medical purposes would require proper experimentation.

Work on using ibonyte for heavy industrial applications, and creating a wide range of metals with would require proper experimentation.

Harnessing Ibonyte's dense atomic energies for propellant, wave based weaponry, or even colossally destructive weaponry would require experimentation.

Inquisitive Scifaxes may ascertain other properties of Ibonyte through experimentation during peacetime.

I don't know if there's an updated version of it floating around but here's the warmatch

For sure we got Pumpkins and Dullahan
we gained 3 scientist but lost three
    gained:

    1 Geophysicist

    lost:
    1 micromechanic
    2 energy physicist
    genius savante in the hospital
(oh boy that pre-mission accident... who thought it would be a good idea to use those in a live environment after that fiasco?)

First and foremost we need light air support. Recon planes for more accurate mapping of battles to come, as well as support bombers for cheaper on-site ordnance

On the matter of air and flying, it would be good to have research done on the physical sciences behind how such large masses of land can be so suspended in air. Capturing the islands would be all well and good, but if we could make a sky fortress for ourselves, that would be all the better.

I personally feel like finding ways to augment the human body with mechanical parts would be a worthy endeavor. To have a stronger, faster, more resilient soldier that didn't have to worry about the sunlight, or of automatic fire threatening their structural integrity I think could prove invaluable. However, it would likely be more practical to find ways to mitigate the current weaknesses of the Deathkorps, such as our previous attempts at sun-blocking solutions for vampires. Perhaps reinforced skeletal structures, heavy Skeletons, so to speak?

What are your thoughts, gentlemen and ladies?

Genetic research would be invaluable--make our soldiers faster, stronger, better--mooks and royals alike. I would also suggest that we could use ibonyte to enhance our weaponry--make make our rounds hit harder, maybe even with improved anti-armor capabilities.

It might also be worthwhile looking into seeing if we can bind this wonder-metal to our armor, ensuring maximum survival capabilities for our troops on the field--or, for our pilots and medics, see if a powdered/gelled form of Ibonyte can be used to improve first aid and repair capabilities in the field.

I realize that these research projects will require a massive amount of power, which is why I'm, once again, proposing we land on the uninhabited island, and start building a base, utilizing the island's geothermal vents to generate power for the military base and research projects. In light of the...unforseen...destruction of the enemy's water supply and airbase, now might be the best time to try establishing a base of our own, even if it means building one ourselves, whether from the ground up or excavated from the mountains themselves.

The pilot climbs out of the cockpit, his hands clammy and shaking, black hair dripping with sweat. Turns out sustained gunfire really heated up the compartment. Looking down on the wyvern corpses from aboard the Halberd that had picked him up, seeing them riddled with holes, gave him a fierce sense of pride. But still... He sighed heavily. When vonClaude's Halberd had fireballed, he thought for sure it had been over. Surveying the hull of his tank, the jagged metal plates he and the Mechanic had welded on had been flame-scarred, and some of them had partially melted from the intense heat.
"Hrmph..." The Mechanic ran out to meet him from the ship's hold. She raised an eyebrow as he clambered down and stood scratching his head, staring at the turret mounting. Finally, he broke the silence.
"How hard do you think it'd be to put in a ballistic sight and reduce the recoil when firing at airborne targets? Cuz I'm sick of that crap."
"Umm... that shouldn't be too hard. That all?"
"....No. I want incendiary rounds too." He sighed heavily. "And if you could bring out the patching kit, a few buckets of tan paint and one of white, I'd appreciate it." He ran his fingers over the salvaged metal plates. "I've got some redecorating to do."
    The Mechanic smiled.
    "Ready to move on?"
"Not a chance... but we need more than terror to win. Need something inspirational too, something that reminds us what we're fighting for, without dragging down morale."

"You're a good man, you know that?"
He shrugged her hand off, but stood there silently for a moment.
    "Thanks."
"Anytime." He was turning to leave when she caught him by the hand, pulling it up to his eye-level, displaying the matching rings of pale, white flesh on their wrists.
"Even if you don't believe it, we can still do good." The Pilot turned and surveyed the carnage, what corpses remained littered over the remaining islands, rubble on the ground hundreds of meters below, sickening ooze-spewing monstrosities raised by their corpsiers, and shuddered.
"If this is us doing good, I really don't want to see us being bad." He half-smiled, and pulled back his hand. "Shall we? Lots of work ahead."

    >In light of the Destruction of Heaven Pond, the Voss propaganda machine once again churned into action. New methods of "spreading the word of the glorious Voss Empire", as the Ministry of Information called it, were devised in the spring of 646; multiple ideas were proposed--mass pamphlet drops via Halberd, artillery shells timed to airburst over enemy bases and shower them with flyers and pamphlets explaining how the Voss were bringing change and progress to the land, even more exotic methods such as tanks converted into rolling loudspeakers were conceptualized, debated over, designed, sent back, redesigned, again debated over, and eventually scrapped, if not forgotten.

    >Radio and loudspeaker broadcasts, it seemed, were the most effective way of spreading word of the exploits of the Voss to the Skylands. Much like at Makkos Ra, an array of loudspeaker towers were hastily constructed, facing out toward the island cluster, projecting a "wall of sound" that the Kashir couldn't ignore. The broadcasts were filled with all manner of oppressive noise--news, music, anything to keep the Kashir awake and aware that the Voss were there. The fall of Heaven Pond, however, warranted a special broadcast. The following is a transcript of the broadcast:

    MUSIC: "THE GATES OF PARADISE"

VB: Hello hello~! All you desert soldiers--it's your favorite girl, Vosskon Blossom, broadcasting live from the Voss capital to all your homes and bases. No doubt the news of Heaven Pond is gettin' around to all you folks out there--it's gone. That's right, the might of the Voss Empire was able to bring a floating island crashing down from the sky. Don't believe me? Go--ask that one commander of yours, Hassan the Executioner! You ask me, man should go back to selling used camels.

VB: In any case, think of this, you desert soldiers, as a lesson. Do not underestimate us. Do not think us fools. You have seen what we are capable of; prolong this conflict, and it will be far, far worse.

(The voice becomes darker, almost as if VB is leaning close to the microphone at this point

VB: And if you do not heed this warning, we will be happy to show you the folly of your ways. We will bring the Skylands down about your heads. We will bring your fallen back from the afterlife, only to turn and attack their former brothers-in-arms. There's a storm coming, you desert soldiers, it would be best if you surrendered while you still have the ability to. We can be benevolent hosts if you'll allow us, but ignore this plea to stand down, and we will be ruthless in our execution.

(There is a pause here, as a long sigh is heard. The next lines are heard in VB's normal voice)

Now that the formalities are over with, how about some music to brighten the mood. WE have a nice mix coming up now, with all your favorites. First up is Travis Walpole and the Moonbeams, and this is his hit "Maribel Blue".

Of course balancing it to be more effective would require quite a bit of deviation from conservative designs, and may incur flaws to the vehichle.

Abstract upgrades however seem to find plenty of compatibility to Voss frames as they often have enough mass and surplus power to spare.

I'll write up the research proposal tonight, now that we have acquired new scientists, thankfully in some areas we desperately needed. I expect some suggestions. A light flyer will be highly likely, as is further investigations into the uses of this Ibonyte, specifically medical and such.

Currently you are in a warroom thread. Think a general thread but is canon.
And doesn't die. Keep posted in a warroom and you can keep posted on the next engagement.

Right now I am working on making game-pieces and pretending to be a one-man gamesworkshop in the hopes that the next battle will have shiny discernable graphics.

Everyone else is cashing in their exp and buying upgrades for the army. And then ultimately deciding the next move for the next battle. Hence Varroom.

Shorthair here to teach you how to join the game!
It's quite simple really, as Blitz has noted all you need to do is hop on in, thats done by the simplest method imaginable. Pick a class from one of the two sheets he has pointed you towards and declare that you are deploying as that class.
As you may have noticed each class has a letter in their name in capital. Thats the letter you use in your tag. After that its as simple as picking a name! You come in as a private and get promoted when those above you decided you get it.
Other than that just follow the wiki and you should be good to go!

    >putting it into the Infantry Training Programs

Ella flicked the switch of the radio, choosing instead to enjoy the muffled sounds of the base at work from inside her tent. She turned onto her back, staring upward at the ceiling. The faint smell of tobacco from a spent cigarette tinged her nose. The thoughts of the previous day and night circulated through her thoughts--being bogged down in foxholes, narrowly escaping a collapsing floating island, somehow acing a crash landing through the quartermaster's tent, and making it back to base as soon as the morning light came out proper. She had peeled out of her sweaty, mud-stained officer's uniform, opting for the lightness of a white tanktop and black shorts as the uniform was being cleaned and pressed. She sighed, blowing the bangs out of her eyes. 'Another sleepless night.' The thought drifted across her consciousness. She let out a groan, shutting her eyes. She tossed and turned, trying to find a comfortable position on the bed that never presented itself. With a huff, she once again planted herself on her back, taking to watching the sunlight trickle through the canvas of the tent.

Time passed. She sat up in bed, reaching across to the top of the small bedstand and picking up her carton of Albright menthols and her metallic pocket lighter. Ella popped open the top of the carton, slipping one of the cigarettes out and into her mouth. The lighter sparked alive on the first strike, and she brought it up to the end, letting the cherry glow a fierce bright orange before drawing it away. She took one long drag as the entrance flaps to her came apart. In the doorway stood her other guard—Oleg, was that his name—holding two cups of some steaming liquid. “Am I interrupting something?” He asked.

“No, no, it's fine.” Ella took another long drag, pulling herself out of bed. “Where's Abby?”

“Off 'indulging in her hobby,' as she called it.” Oleg said. “Last time I saw her she was taking pictures of the tanks in the motor pool.”

Ah.” Ella nodded. "She would be. The Halberd's got some interesting scars; I can imagine she'd be wanting to get some shots of that."

"Is she a correspondent for the propaganda mag?"

    "Abby?"

    "Yes."

"Oh no, definitely not." Ella chuckled. "She *is* a photographer, though, definitely--took up the hobby in Academy and all."

    "Ah."

"Yeah," Ella said. "So--Oleg, was it? Any reason you're checking up on your me?"

“Coffee.” Oleg walked over to the officer, giving her one of the warm mugs. “Tomas said you wouldn't get any sleep after what happened last night, thought it'd help keep you up.” His voice was , thick with some accent Ella couldn't quite pinpoint. “She said you like it sweet and dark, ya?”

“Well, um, yes. Thank y--” Ella was abruptly cut off as Oleg reached into one of his the pouches on his belt, producing a handful of small white cubes wrapped in little paper packets and a small straw, setting the small cubes onto her bedstand. She tilted her head. "What are--?"

“Didn't know how sweet you liked it, decided to leave that to you. Brought sugar cubes from Mess Hall—you sweeten to your liking, ya? Also brought stirrer.”

Ella blinked in surprise. “Oh, um, that's good. That's...great, actually.” Ella chuckled. “Thanks, Oleg. I wasn't planning on getting any sleep anyway."

“Of course.” Oleg took a sip from his own mug before turning back. "I will be right outside door if you need anything."

Ella gave an appreciatory nod as Oleg filed out of the tent, watching his bulky figure stomp out of the tent and outside, stopping promptly outside the entrance and assuming a relaxed stance as he nursed his cup of coffee. 'What an odd man,' Ella mused as she started to tear open the little sugar cube packets. 'Good, but odd.'

Obviously we can take the more obvious route and go "How might we use this to kill people"

From what I can read about it if only a small amount would be needed to instantly kill a human, would it be possible to create an explosive that could shower and area with shards of this stuff. It could greatly improve small arms fragmentation grenades

Its properties against warm body enviroments and solid substances may also make it an effective weapon againist the creatures these people seem to be deploying againist us. Some manner of "Anti-Tank/Monster Crystal Launcher" or something. Right now we don't seem to have an effective method of killing these things other then "Shoot it lots" or "Lots of explosives". We invent something that can kill these monsters without much hassle suddenly the enemy has lost one of its advantages againist us.

Don't mind me just the new guy trying to be helpful

Since we foresee more aerial incursions, a type of simple anti air tank would be sound. Or perhaps a lighter version of the Halberd much like the aircraft they're toying around with in Clovis. What small amount of Ibonyte we do have should be enough to create a potent powersource.

    My lord,

It is now the first day of the week. The combat board has updated. And our assets counted out.
Unfortunately, most of our base of operations lie at Heaven's gate and the lands below.

The enemy is no doubt fortifying themselves for theirs or our next attack.

Should we decide on our next target , proper scouting can be done, however we haven't any fast flyers comparable to wyverns or griffins.

Every week, the number of FORCES changes, more reinforcements are sent in as does the enemy. FORCES are just an abstract number mustered up by a number of men, but it equates to one dice.

For now however, any of our highly skilled Royals may attempt a NonCombat Action.

Or we may send any of the other main units to perform the following tasks:
    > Attack
    >Scout [Need Flyers]
    >Infiltrate [Takes time]
    >Train [Adds more troop to their ranks if the unit is battalion sized or greater, however special units like the 13th, and Nibelheim require forces to pass cutoff rating.
    > Resupply , Build, Research, Patrol, are other actions a force can perform.

A unit would be able to perform the same things through an NCA, available only once per week.
Be sure to roll two dice, 1 for success, the 2nd for danger if there happens to be a need for it.

We still need a base in the Skylands, far as I can see. Since we've cut off the Kashir from air support and a water supply, we should probably try taking down their food supply next. I propose that we get together a reconnaisance mission before assaulting, see what kind of geography we're looking at, as well as enemy strength and composition.

Barring another assault, however, I once again resubmit a proposal that we try for the uninhabited island and establish a base using the geothermal vents as a power source for the military base/research station.

    >>18371588

As for research projects, I have a few proposals as well:

--A powdered/gelled form of Ibonyte to be used as a sort of medical/armor repair aid, readily available to medics, Royals, (possible) engineer mooks. Stops bleeding and/or heals damage to armor plating. Possibly isolate two forms of healing agent, otherwise armor may become fused to skin of soldiers (NOTE: may make soldiers more durable, however process could be inexplicably painful to reverse).

--Ibonyte-tipped/propelled projectile weaponry. For the former, ibonyte would be refined into the tip of a regular bullet, allowing for a harder-hitting, faster-killing projectile. For the latter, a powderized form of the metal is mixed with regular gunpowder, if not replacing it entirely. Bullets, tank shells, and artillery bombs fly faster out of the barrels of our weaponry, hit farther out than normal munition types. No modification necessary to our current arsenal other than a simple ammunition swap. NOTE: (As an addendum to this, it might be worthwhile to look into the creation of a weaponized Ibonyte-based gel that can be used as a flamethrower-type weapon, both for burning away vegetation and burning enemies.)

--Ibonyte-infused armor plating. If this wonder metal takes heartily to any element it is applied to, we could possibly use it for defense applications as well as offensive applications. The ibonyte could be processed, refined, and added to our armor plating, possibly supplementing/supplanting the Scale BDU's already in usage by our Royals and further increasing the hardness of our vehicle armor. If we can mine enough Ibonyte, this upgrade could possibly pass to our regular army mooks, making them more durable.

"Of course, Doktor." Unperturbed, Elfriede salutes respectfully and with a sharp whistle, she summons her companions, both wolf and wyvern.

With a slight nod to herself, Elfriede casts her eyes to her kingdom, the recovered monster eggs carefully arranged and her companions comfortably situated to maximize the distribution of their body heat. When satisfied with inspecting the placement of eggs and companions alike, she gives the entire arrangement one final glance before making her way from the observation platform down to the creche, arriving just as the sun dips under the horizon. Finally there, Elfriede, now in her lycanthropy form, takes the throne as the Princess of the Egg Lair and curls up around her share of monster eggs.

    Report:
Devicer White, thanks for your findings, by using your White Ratio, Ibonyte can be mixed in powder compounds of any gun without severely damaging the mechanism.

Furthermore, we can safely use this to arm Doom Missiles with an Ibonyte tip so as not to incur too much damage. We'll send you the materials needed so you can work on applying these on the field.

    [Ibon]

[White gains Ibonyte Ivories, a lovely formula that can upgrade any existing weapon with an Ibonyte Round, Converting its damage type to heavy for 1 turn. ]

    When equipped by other classes
[Ibon] rounds are useable only once and wille overheat any gun for a turn aferwards.
[Ibon] rounds are still in its experimental phase however so White must try these out in at least one battle before they can be useable.

Ibonyte Tipped Doom missiles will cost twice as much but will do more damage and cover a wider area.

Attempting to mix Ibonyte with various forms of blood is faced with one major obstacle: keeping the Ibonyte from corrupting the blood. After much trial and error you realize that the fundamental flaw to it's bonding was that it was bonded to dead cultures and isolated samples not live specimens.

It would seem that more research is needed.

When on the field, use [Ibon] compounds in your formula to double a drug's effect for the same risk. This experiment will allow you to study ibonyte and all it's effects.

The three Skeletons lounge around the rec area, getting visibly bored. The radio is a bit broken, so only static came through.
"Rats, the radio's taken in sand again."
"I do miss me some Vosskon Blossom music."
"Why don't we make some of our own?"
    "Great idea! But what instrument?"
"I could play the xylophone." Koschei said.
"I could play the piano." Waldorf added.
"Hmm, then I'll take the vocals!" Lennox replied.
"Oh come on, at least get another instrument!"
"How about a pair of maracas?"
"Great idea! Shame we can't have a saxophone, we don't have the lungs for it."
"Let's practice for a bit... do they have xylophones?"
"Maybe your rib implants could do the same thing, Koschei!"
The three of them cackled and rattled, but after a short while later, some spirit-lifting beats can be heard emanating from the rec room...

Emma turns from her typewriter, her usual post of the night. Kraus, sitting across the desk from her, head resting on her folded arms, staring into a small piece of suspended ibonyte, only shifts her eyes in recognition of the new presence.

Emma blinks a few times, her brow furrowing in thought as she stares into the empty sockets of the Sergeant's skull. After a few moments she answers "...That...I never thought of that before. Gods, I never even considered that side of undeath. Well...Maybe you could try picking something up that you never could before? Reading, wood carving, painting, chess, wolfback riding...? I suppose that would require hands though, which I believe you lack in the day, don't you? But well, I guess all I can say is to make the best of all this new time you have. I'm really afraid I can't be much more help right now. Is there anything you want for in your new state? Maybe I could work on it..."

Later that night, she would stay up in her bed, staring at the cloth ceiling of her tent. How did this change alter the lives of these soldiers? More often than not, they will be the ones to survive, where many men will die. But at what personal cost? Is it still possible to live a normal life as one of these demi-humans? So many questions. Maybe she'd talk to Ritter Elfriede on the matter

From the files in the Voss Royal Archives, the following has been forwarded to :

    Tactical Cat.
    Priority: Black
    =================================

    Beatrice Monandeas
    of Ignyll Cross.
    BloodRace: Human, 8th Sylvan
    Date of Birth: Unknown
Parentage: Adopted by the Monandeas War Clan under Guardianship of ========= [Executed]

Career: Organ Player, Soldiering , Teaching, Guardianship of Vilkas Von Voss, Currently DeathMarshal of the Voss Royal Guard,

    Empirical Data:
Beatrix was a child picked up from the killing fields of Ignyll after the town was liberated by Killer King's Army. Though Monandeas Clan was later shamed and executed for attempting a coup with a demoniq pact, Beatrix remained in the frontlines during their attempted takeover, and fought on the side of FIergraz Von Voss as a simple corporal.

It has been noted however, that she exhibited a certain keenness for future events and as such predicted strategic victories to Fiergraz's credit and continued safety.

    Psychological Profile:
Beatrice has opted to change her name simply to Beatrix and bears no last name. It is noted that she shares none of the ideological threads that the Monandeas clans were bound to at the time of their insurrection. Because of this, she is both loyal to the Vosskon Crown but is not heated with a nationalistic bent, nor does she exhibit the aggressive spirit most Vosskon patriots would at her high a rank, as such she remains the perfect candidate to watch over Vilkas Von Voss and exhibit no more care for him and his choices than a mother would.

As she has no ulterior motives and is erased of her past she will lead vicariously through shameless use of any and all Voss tactics that the War Academia would only care to recall when Ascheron Von Voss fought against the 4 empires.

During our annual interview, it was noted that she has consumed 6 cups of coffee and smoked twice.
