103 KB Zerg Quest LXXVIII Cerebrate Anon 03/12/12(Mon)20:59 No.18304082
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18258343/

Why, hello there, /tg/. Let me tell you a little story. There once was a mighty Swarm of Zerg, run by the Overmind, Father to us all. Now, Father created a new Cerebrate to be extra creative. That Cerebrate helped Father attain His lifelong dream of conquering Aiur, the homeworld of the Protoss (our First Born cousins). But the evil Protoss Feneschal murdered the Overmind, and the Cerebrate had to live on alone.

Since then, the Cerebrate has conquered almost the whole Koprulu Sector, and is fighting a dastardly species of amphibious psionic parasites under control of a former Terran named Dyles. The Cerebrate tracked Dyles to the homeworld of the parasites and killed him, but he was very strong. He managed to embed himself into the interconnected biosphere of the planet, effectively becoming a thinking ecosystem! Oh, no!

This story doesn't have an ending yet, /tg/! How will the Swarm deal with this?

(Wednesday off next week. Normal time. Awesome)

With nukes and psionic high-fives. And what was the plan that I was apparently expected to argue about? It had something to do with the Xel'Naga planet stripper we never build if I recall, we should build one of those.

Well, first, how many Psi Emitters can we get here in a hurry? Dyles may not be able to leave, but we need to prevent him from suborning more of our troops.

Second, is the orbital platform secured?

That's what it was, strapping emitters to our highliners and using them to force Dyles into submission. I do wonder how it will effect Kerri, since emitters have a large range, but it's worth a try provided we're ready to purge the planet if it fails.

    Sure. Everybody's welcome.

    >>18304143
There was a plan put forward right at the end of last thread that we should put Psi Emitters into the heighliners to boost the signal a hundredfold and put them in orbit, then if that didn't kill Dyles' new planet-self, to crack 'em open and use the red wave of doom. It hasn't been voted on, yet.

    >>18304150
We could get the twenty Labbrate has on standby there quickly with the heighliners, or in about a week through conventional warp travel.

I'll put my tentative vote towards the highliners with Psi Emitters. If we can get enough firepower there, we could just glass the planet though. I'd rather not remove another chunk of space.

Get the Psi Emitters there using Heighliners, but only to the edge of the system. We can't risk Dyles getting his hands on our slipstream drives.

Conventional forces can pick up the Psi Emitters from the heighliners and spread them out as needed.

We are not blowing up a heighliner EVER AGAIN! They're too expensive. Now researching into how to weaponize the phenomena without the need for a heighliner I'm in favor of. Anyway, lets get emitters there with a bunch of nukes. Also let's slap the planet with our mind, let Dyles know who's boss, might not even be Dyles anymore, just a planet waiting for a master.
    >> Rynex !3KCroq6wAA 03/12/12(Mon)21:28 No.18304364
Don't use the heighliners within Dyles' range. Just have them park far away and then haul the emitters normally all the way to the doorstep.

We don't have a lot of options, Kerrigan. If you've got extensive experience with dealing with planetminds that may be able to mind control Zerg beyond "kill it with nuclear fire" or "kill it slower with conventional forces", we're up for hearing it.

We have no way of knowing if Dyles is handicapping himself by spreading himself too thin, or if he'll possibly grow more powerful than before if we leave him and try to build up a bigger assault force. The sooner we can deal with him, the better.

Wait, hold on a second. Those psi-emitters are configured to send out a huge pulse that spans multiple star systems.

But we don't NEED them to span multiple star systems! We just need them to condense into one star system (the one the Dylesmind is in).

Ask Labbrate if it would be possible to tweak the psi-emitters to crank out a psi-wave that will decay quickly after leaving the star system. And if possible, to see if the raw output can be increased as a result.

Also, can I assume we're retreating from the system until we do this, or are we going to fight the Protoss ships he stole from us and his assembled Terran forces? Also, are we going to try to get our forces off the orbital platform?

    Alright!

Let's get to deploying those psi-cannons.

I think we should have some fast and dodgy Terran vessels crewed by Terminators to carry the psi-cannons. These vessels will be ferried to the system by heighliners; after unloading the Terminators + Psi-Cannons, the Heighliners will hyperspace the hell away. Then the Psi-cannon-equipped vessels will FIRE ALL PSI-CANNONS at the direction of the Dylesmind planet.

If the psi-cannons can't be separated from the Heighliners, then escort the heighliners and have them fire from the maximum safest distance.

We storm into the system, the modified valkyrie safely protected by mutalisks, scourge, and a host of battlecruisers. It takes less than half an hour to break through the Protoss/Terran line and approach the planet. We amp the Psi Cannon to full power and fire at the planet.

    ...

    ...

    And nothing happens.

Dyles' laughter echoes through our thoughts.

"I sure hope that wasn't supposed to hurt, Cerebrate."

It would seem that Dyles' manner of control is sufficiently different from our own to make him immune to the weapon.

    Okay, plan B:

Strap makeshift hyperspace engines on nukes. Ferry nukes in system. Have them initiate hyperspace jumps directed at the planet while exploding. If this works like how Dyles did the exploding freighters jumping when we rescued the Protoss, this should spread nuclear explosions all throughout where the missle should be jumping.

Or it could just ram the missile into Dyles' planet at absurd speeds. Either result is acceptable.

    Plan C:

Destabilize the orbit of the platform, crash it into planet. Once things are sufficiently fucked up there, finish the job by spraying nukes at it.

Without going into details, the Chernobyl reactor had a way to trigger a runaway reaction, resulting in hydrogen being stripped away from the remaining cooling water. Hydrogen+air is highly explosive...

A star on the other hand should prove self-stabilizing. Hinder one form of fusion and it shrinks, increasing pressure inside, starting new fusion reactions. Let go and the will help make it expand again, causing the newly started fusion processes to cease.

As the first beams fire, we hear a roar of anger echo through our mind. We feel Dyles' mind tear at our own, scrabbling wildly against our control, but we do not falter. As the carrier's main batteries burn away life on the planet, the roar anger turns to pain, then to a pitiful scream. As the top layer of the planet's crust is superheated, its waters boiled, and its inhabitants evaporated, the scream slowly subsides until we strain to hear anything at all.

Then, finally, it is silent. The ships in orbit go adrift, and we feel their inhabitants reaching around for a mind to follow. We watch with cold disregard as the pilots convulse, tearing at their hair, their jaws, their eyes. They start to cripple themselves, and many inadvertently depressurize their craft. Slowly, the fleet start to go silent as well as the survivors appear to go comatose, still searching, reaching for a master.

    Dyles is dead.

About two hours afterward, while we are pushing the last of Dyles' ground forces off the side of the platform (what? It's efficient!), a fleet of ships arrives out of warp travel, adrift and dead. We recognize many of the ships from the assault on Earth. Dyles' reinforcements, likely sent the moment we first arrived, and arriving so quickly, have yet failed to be any help at all.
