Within half an hour, you are standing with Lena, Catalina, Wulf, Laelith, Sansa, and a few of her personally trained soldiers outside the door to the tower. Lena frowns as she looks at the massive, finely crafted door "The door is an arcane item, freshly made. It will prevent any not invited in from entering, and will be difficult to destroy."

"By arcane, or mundane means?" Sansa asks as she idly twirls one of her knifes in her hand, still looking at the door.

"Both." the young mage answers, still sizing up the door.

"We could always destroy the tower around the door." Wulf offers through a yawn.

"And take the damn door with us?" Laelith asks, arching a questioning eyebrow at your protege

See what Laelith and Lethiana think about creating our own door or tunneling into the structure using elementalism.

Laelith might have heard of arcana like this before and Lethiana would be able to advise us if the tower would remain structurally sound.

Unfortunately I won't be able to participate in tonight's session but I do have a question to ask regarding the siege golem from the previous session: if Vi can grow that much dragonbone than surely she could make enough to start crafting weapons and armor from it, right?

Also, if she can grow dragonbone can she also effect humans in the same way? Perhaps by making muscles and tendons stronger or bones and skin tougher, or is that beyond her skill at the moment?

    >correct. the dragonbone was just layin around after all that time building up, so Catalina put it to use. And no, Vi isnt good enough to do that without averse effects. And normal life elementalists can only boost others temporarily

You sigh "Send for Camilus and Teirana. Hopefully the little demon will be able to get this door from our path... as I have no intention of taking it with me." is your reply to your families banter. Sansa nods, and jogs off to fetch the pair, and you take the time to search the structure with stonesense. The entire first floor seems, off, though as bereft of life as any of the other floors do. the upper levels have quite a few places where there is simply no floor to be seen, however, and the walls have several niches in them at corners and along the longer hallways.

Below ground, you feel more than a few sets of feet pacing about inside rooms so small that they can only be cells. Also, you feel several large, open spaces with big piles of... stuff, on the ground in them. As you finish your search, Sansa returns with Camilus and Teirana in tow "How can I help, Dominu?"

You tilt your head to the door as you return his salute, and reply "Can Teirana decay that door? Its an enchanted to prevent any unwanted parties from entering... and I am fairly certain that looters arent welcome."

The demon flits over to the door, panting in exhaustion as she lands in front of it. She runs her hands along it for a while, seemingly taking measure of it, before sniffing it,stepping back, and replying "I wont be able to destroy it. But I should be able to decay it so that you can break it."

Laelith nods "Its wooden, so I could just burn it once its been aged away." as Teirana sits crosslegged, paying no mind to the fact that the dress Camilus has her in now does little to protect her decency, and begins to glare at the door. Between the pout on her face, the way she has her fists planted on the ground, and the childishness of her pose, it is easy to mistake her for a frustrated child that is waiting for a shop to open.

"Or Justinian could just bash it open with rocks." Wulf offers, as he raises a quizzical eye at the little demon.

"Yes, she is working to destroy the door now Wulf. Arcane items do not age normally." Lena inserts "Arcane items do not age normally."

You nod "Between Laeltih and myself, breaking the door down should be easy enough. Also, I would not be surprised to find some traps in the tower. I have the arcana detecting monocle, so will lead, but I cant be certain that it will find all of them."

The rest of the group nods and Camilus asks "Would you like Teir and I to join you then, Dominu?"

Before you can reply Teirana nods, stands up, and turns to face the group "I can keep draining it, but I'm still weak from the fight... you should be able to take the door down now."

Lethiana flourishes her Eternal Torch, and begins slowly roasting the door, which catches fire fairly quickly, burning as one would expect a rotten door to, though the flames coruscate madly as they burn the arcane power in the door. "Any time your ready, love." Laelith announces as Teirana attaches herself to Camilus leg, looking between him and you, her expression at once tired and expectant. One last sweep of the tower reveals that the stairs down to the storage room and dungeons are in the opposite direction of the stairs up to the towers higher reaches.

With a flick of your wrist, you pull a quartet of head sized rocks from the ground, and, as they begin to orbit your right arm, reply "Your help would be appreciated, Camilus. You can watch the rear of the group to ensure none of the traps release demons or beasts of some sort behind us." And, at that, you fire the four stones at the door, each one obliterating a hinge, and punching a hole clear through the wall behind the door, leaving another door sized hole behind it.

As you advance into the towers interior, you are surprised to see that it is well lit, and fiarly well appointed. Nothing of note lines the walls of the hallway you step into, though what you see in the next hallway catches your eye. Stepping straight through the hole in the wall, you are surprised to find that the rest of the first floor is a maze of some sort. One that rearanges itself seemingly at random, you note, as walls shifting down the hallway close some paths and open others. "It is controlled by a demon... a weak one that has gone mad." Camilus announces from the back of the group.

"A most annoying security measure." Sansa notes "I wonder if our breaking the door triggered it."

Lena shakes her head and points to the floor, which has colored chevrons pointing a path along either wall "No, it is always like this, I think. The white chevrons most likely lead to the stairs up, and the black down."

"What if that is a ploy, or a trap?" Catalina asks, clearly wary of the floor, standing in with the group as the section of wall you had accidentally destroyed pulls itself downward, and the path to your right, that would follow the black chevrons, is blocked.

"Then the Commander would have corrected me." Lena smirks, wrapping an arm around Wulf as she waits for your response, and orders.

"No, your right Lena. And we will be head3ed up, in hopes of finding arcana, or books worth taking." is your answer.

"Perhaps we could search the lower levels then?" one of the soldiers you brought along offers, clearly off-put by the loud grinding noises made by the mazes shifting. "And... I cant see any chevrons on the floor."

You shake your head "No, if you cannot see the directions on the floor, it would be best if you stayed with us. Come." you order, before setting off along the path marked by arcane chevrons on the floor.

Fifteen incredibly frustrating minutes later, you reach the stairs up to the second floor. You exit the stairs into what must be the towers dining hall, it is decorated much in the same style as the first floor, though slightly less well appointed. Judging by the wear patterns on the rugs at the three doors from the room, it is plain to tell which leads to the dormitories, and which leads further up the tower. "Do we search the dormitories, Commander, or set off to find more... profitable, items to loot?" Camilus asks, glancing about the large room.

"Do you think they have any food on this level?" Wulf asks, his stomach growling. While frustrated at his lack of professionalism, it is good to see him slowly returning more to normal.

"I doubt there will be anything worth taking in the occupants of this towers rooms." Sansa replies to Camilus, as she shoots Wulf a quick grin.

"They may have books or scrolls that they were studying in them... and if any arcanasmiths remain, they may have projects they were working on laying about their rooms." Laelith counters without much conviction.

You shrug "Set the guards to checking those rooms then, we will press upwards." you order, as you move to walk from the dining hall. the next two levels are uneventful, to be blunt about it. Heavily runed and shielded practice halls, a few lecture halls, not much else.

However, as you are about to open the door to the fifth, and final floor, Camilus stops you "There are several items on the next level being actively controlled by demons on the next level, and several other places where we could accidentally release one if we are not careful."

    "How tightly controlled?" Sansa asks.

He shrugs "A few of them are tightly bound, and quite cramped, as to the traps... most likely quite powerful demons released with full freedom."

"Could you turn the demons to your service like you did with Teirana?" Laelith asks, sounding more curious than concerned.

The demonologist chuckles "Teir was near starving, and the deomonologist attempting to force her into my body a fool. So I doubt it."

You sigh "Elves, demons... whats next, more damn werespiders and hobgoblins? Teirana, you and I will work to detect the traps while the others pass through the chamber."

The demon nods, and flys over from her usual perch on Camilus shoulders to yours. Sansa giggles as the demon settles in, and ducks down next to your face to avoid beating her head against the doorframe, and interjects "I have to say, that you look quite quite with a child on your shoulders, love."

"I'm not a child, I'm a demon..." Teirana pouts as you push the door open and pass through.

"Fuck" you announce as you take the room in. The walls are coated in doors, and the floor is covered in loose cobblestones, that, even if one did shift down a few inches, you would likely not notice.

Laughing, Laelith follows you in and replies "Not right now..." trailing off before she can finish the quip. Teirana pulls her bow through to this reality, and begins putting arrows into most of the doors. Meanwhile, you busy yourself erecting little stone pyramids over the stones that are set to trigger traps. It is nearly ten minutes before the room is safe, and the rest of the group can enter.

As you pass through the room, the distinctive sound of armor clanking from behind one of the doors catches everyones attention "Do we even want to know what is behind that door?" Sansa asks, clearly on edge.

Camilus tilts his head, looks at the door, and replies "Most likely a suit of armor with a demon bound into it. I would not have liked to fight one of those in my prime, let alone now that I am crippled."

Wulf grabs her by the arm, and physically drags her out of the trapped room "We probably killed the necromancer responsible for them when we crossed the Greyrun. They are just being supported by arcana now."

Grumbling, the priestess lets herself be pulled down the hallway that Lena and Laelith are already headed down. Teirana again on his shoulders, Camilus looks down the hallway in either direction once, before guessing "Right for their liabrary, left for the arcana vault, I suppose."

Catalina continues to walk towards the library, and Sansa adds "He was listing the worst offenders, but you are to follow as well, Catalina." in a stern voice, though the mirth is written all over her face.

The necromancer pauses, turns around, and moves to follow the rest of the group into the arcana vault. It takes a few hours to work through the crap, baubles, contracts,a nd other valuables that are of no use to you, but, by the end of it, you have several useful items packed and ready to move. In addition to three more full sets of arcanist training gloves, you have a circlet that Laelith is fairly certain is to aid a summoner or demonologist in combat, an over-sized staff that Catalina says will destroy any undead in a decent radius by tapping it against the ground with enough force, and a handful of pieces of jewelry that you did not have time to determine the use of.

"Are we free to leave for the liabrary to take the useful tomes now, Justinian?" Laelith asks as the guards begin setting about the task of moving the towers material wealth from its vault.

Teirana glares at them crossly "You wouldn't want to see what is in the dungeon more?"

Wulf laughs "No Teirana, they want to spend the rest of our time in this town going through books."

"Is there anything wrong with that?" Lena asks, tilting an eyebrow at Wulf.

"None at all, Lena... now stay put until Justinian frees you to go through this places library, or orders you to follow to the dungeon." Sansa replies from the wall she is leaning against.

You shake your head apologetically "I will need them to help in the dungeons as well. I doubt that anything held in a dungeons separate from the towns will be arcane in nature, and will need everyone I brought to ensure that it is properly dealt with." All three women who had been inching towards the library freeze, dissapointed, but none protest, and all follow willingly as you descend the stairs.

Once you reach the entrance chamber, Lenas eagerness becomes apparent, as she blasts a path through the shifting maze so that you can reach the dungeon sooner. After climbing down the last set of stairs, you find a guard room of sorts, though the spattering of tomes in the room make it clear that the folk who guarded this dungeon were not your typical guards. Their are four hallways, two marked 'thinking' and two marked 'bestial'. Catalina breaks the silence that had reigned since you left the uppermost floor, by opining "I do not like any of this... and we havent even went to the cells yet."

"The tomes are mostly on hobgoblins and tertiose... though a few on loukys and faeries are mixed in as well." Laelith mentions, as she leafs through one of the books.

"We should check for any captives." Sansa announces, already moving towards the two hallways apparently filled with slaves and prisoners of war.

Prisoners of war first. Then the halls marked thinking. I wonder if we`ll get the chance to talk to a captive fairy or something.

I'm guessing the two "thinking" hallways contain cells with human prisoners. The two "bestial" hallways contain cells with gods-know-what. Maybe their own Were__ collection.

You nod your head in agreement "Yes, the prisoners and slave first." before setting off down one of the two hallways you expect them to be found behind. Sansa takes a few of her guards, Cartalina and Camilus with her down the second hallway marked the same as the one you are now traveling down.

The first few cells are empty the next few have prisoners in them, all silently contemplating, or meditating. As you move past those cells, you find increasingly unruly and violent werecreatures, and towards the end, many look to be insane, and unable to return to their normal forms.

You begin walking back towards the front of the hallway, wehre the people, mostly slaves by the look of it, will be better able to tell you what has been happening down here, Teirana jogs up to you, a concerned look on her face. "You want to see what we found." she says, voice dead serious, starkly contrasting her usual cheery or petulant nature.

Off we go then. No reason to refuse her request. Especially if it made her serious.

You nod, and follow the demon over to where the rest of the group you brought into the tower is waiting. Sansa and Catalina are both standing back, watching as Camilus is sitting cross-legged, sweat on his brow, staring into the first inhabited cell.

"They used arcana to keep the sound from getting out." Sansa explains, anger on her voice.

Catlaina looks up from a sheet of parchment that they had been using "They had the mayor sign a contract that he would not inquire to this dungeon, and that he was not responsible for what was done down here. They didnt want him to... to burn with them."

You glance inside the cell, and understand the shift in mood immediately. The captive soldier inside is host to several demons, that is obvious. What is not obvious, is why he is doing his best to tear his own leg off, why you can tell that he clawed his own eye out. "Camilus is working to re-bind the demons properly." Teirana explains, inclining her head further down the hallway.

The next few cells are much like the first, captive men and women inflicting damage on themselves, and struggling against doing so. More than a few have corpses inside, or nothing but gobs of rotting flesh and drying blood. Near the end though, it is a different case. Every limb, organ, or aesthetic feature lost has grown back, though demonic in nature. Most of them pace angrily, eyes empty, even as their bodies prepare to kill, to destroy. Some are clearly still mad, cackling and screaming, silently through the sound absorbing arcana at the door to each room. All of them still look to be in immense pain, as their demonic flesh writhes and shifts, sometimes replacing more of the body, others, barely hanging on as the flesh it is connected to dies.

We should inform the Mayor of the town about this if it does not clash with any magical bindings or contracts.
    >> GoldPanda 03/09/12(Fri)03:30 No.18262431
Oh goody. Their own little shop of horrors.

The demons that are unbounded need to be put down.

The prisoners that are too far gone should have their demons re-bound, and then be put out of their misery.

See if any are still rescue-able after Camilus is done with his work. I'm guessing he doesn't have enough energy to save everyone that can be saved.

See if any of the Were-creatures would work for us?

You shake your head in disgust "The ones that have become unbound demon hosts are to be killed, any that can still be bound as proper demon hosts, do so Camilus, so that we can put them out of their misery properly. Though, any that can be saved are to be seen to first." you order, voice stern and clipped.

"They were all infected with werebeast diseases." Sansa notes, setting down the parchment Catalina had been reading.

Teirana shakes her head "Mortals of this plane with any of those diseases cannot become demon hosts. The disease trys to spread to the demons body, but there is no body to spread to, only a mind. For weaker demons, those with no affliction, it is excruciating to even be near werebeasts."

As Lena begins walking down to the far end of the hallway, already gathering power to herself, Wulf asks "What is it they were trying to accomplish?"

Still frowning, still furious, you reply "I dont know... but I refuse to believe that the mayor knew nothing of this. I think I will bring him down here and ask him."

    >gah, I'm crashing here, gonna call it now
