    38 KB Privateer Quest V MachineSpirit !!ZwhWAwcuTHG 03/08/12(Thu)17:18 No.18256140
You are Captain Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest, and captain of the Hazeroth class raider, Amalgum Sister. After capturing a damaged Sword class frigate, your battered ships and crew set course for the Serentius System in order to seek medicae services for your wounded XO, Athe. After docking, you were summoned by the shrine world's Canoness Council, where you received a hostile welcome from a Canoness Conora. Thankfully, the Omnissiah's divine will saw fit to deliver you from that trial of will, in the form of Magos Grumman. After receiving a trio of mechadendrites and improving your skills in constructing and installing augmentations, you set off to visit Athe. After your attempt at eavesdropping was foiled by your new medicae mechadendrite, you burst into the wounded XO's room to find Canoness Laci speaking with her, cleverly covering your failed stealth with the facade of Mechanicus ignorance.

You currently stand in a room with your wounded, doped up XO and a hospitaller canoness recovering from your mind games. You suspect that their startled reactions were due in part to some sort of secretive conversation, but you were also informed that the trophy room of your captured Sword is now accessable...

Well, we're relatively new to the priesthood, and we're a bit rogue, any way.

Regardless, I'm referencing a bit from the end of the last thread:
    >"Magos Grumman informed me of your aid, and I meant to thank you for that."

    >"Y-you're welcome, Captain."

    >Your head and utility mechadendrites slowly cock sideways at her words, your brow quisically moving in opposite directions. "But I haven't thanked you yet?"
    >Your cogitators boldly predict that the Canoness' flesh brain will explode as it attempts to process your statement.
    >> "noko+dice+2d6" 03/08/12(Thu)17:46 No.18256404
godamnit, it's almost midnight, I have class early in the morning and this, high lords of terra and CSM quest are going at the same time.

And, thank her, we are a rogue mechpriest, we don't really care about what the mechanicum does or does not do.
    >> MachineSpirit !!ZwhWAwcuTHG 03/08/12(Thu)17:49 No.18256437
Your pair of utility mechadendrites part above your head as you incline your head toward Canoness Laci, formally thanking her for warning Magos Grumman of Canoness Conora's attempted Inquisition. She simply nods as her flesh brain lags behind the situation in confusion, and your cogitators agree once again upon the weakness of flesh, despite your flesh brain's own protests. When you inquire as to Athe's condition, the woman motions for you to follow her from the doped patient's room.

"I'm afraid we were forced to remove several of her organs to fight her infection, Captain Phryx. Half of her liver has been removed, along with a meter of her intestines. She will recover from her wounds within a six days, but I fear her mental health will be adversely affected by other news."

Your flesh brain roils and screams as primal wiring within it rebels against your cogitators, the removal of Athe's ovaries sparking some strange sympathetic outrage at the very idea of such an act. "... we just couldn't do anything to save them."

Cogitators straining to maintain control, you simply nod at the Canoness and make your way toward your ship, hitching several more rides across the vast distance. A techpriest waits beside the tunnel extending toward your ship, bearing the mark of Magos Grumman. "Omnissiah's blessings upon you, Captain Phryx!" The Magos is certainly lavishing favor and attention upon you.

"Omnissiah's blessings upon yourself, brother. How might I aid you?" The techpriest bows as you halt your stride before him. "I have noted that your frigate's naming engraving has been defaced by weapon's fire and no longer proudly displays the machine spirit's pride and venerable itentity, Captain. Magos Grumman has given us leave to replace the plate, should you grant permission. Would you allow us this honor to venerate the ship's spirit? It is often seen as the Omnissiah's will that the ship take a new name at such an event, and a ship without a name is poor luck!"

If she wants children at any point, we can just find a magos biologis, give him her genetic sample, one genetic sample from the other parent and have him prepare the iron womb(or whatever those not-quite-cloning-vats were called).
    Nine months later, problem solved.

I can't find the picture of that vat now, it's an augmented couple looking at a fetus growing in a cirular, transparent cylinder with green liquid in it.

"I shall commune with the ship's spirit to decide on a name, brother. But for now, I have matters to attend to aboard." The techpriest's mechadendrites excitedly dance about his shoulders as he gives you a vox frequency to contact him upon, leaving to begin work upon the plate's basic form. In short order you stand before the ship's trophy room, excitedly pondering the contents as your utility mechadendrite connects with the ship's machine spirit. The eager animal intelligence seems excited by the prospect of being renamed by one such as yourself, filling your mind with vivid memories of battles long before your time. Your flesh brain protests when you finally sever the MIU connection, clearly enjoying the aroused state generated by such vivid memories and sensations. The sensation of the Omnissiah's manifestations fill the hull as the trophy room's massive blast doors begin to part.

The next six days pass with minimal trouble. You lavish attention and care upon the machine spirits of a choice power sword and bolt pistol, oiling and training with them between shifts inspecting the minor repairs that your crew could manage to the Sword without additional matterials. Magos Grumman's adepts install the new name plate upon the venerable hull of the Sword of the Omnissiah on the fourth day, causing the ship's spirit to grow restless, quite obviously wishing to prove itself worthy of the fine name. On the sixth day, your crew makes ready to finally leave this bastion of zeal. Restless to return to the void and Tortuga, you await Athe upon the station's dock. Flesh brain and cogitators agree that the sight of Magos Grumman has begun to wear upon nerve and circuitry alike.

"Captain Phryx, I do hope the Omnissiah blesses your voyage, but I have an Adept that has reached the limits of her studies upon this station. I feel that perhaps she will best serve the Omnissiah by supporting you on your blessed path to enlightenment." A robed figure fidgets behind the Magos, several mechadendrites peeking over crimson shoulders.

"It would be an honor, Magos. What is her name?"
"Adept Advi will serve you well, Captain. She specializes in industrial skills and has a fair knowledge of servitors." Magos Grumman bows as you instruct Quein to find your new crewmember proper quarters and to introduce her to your chief techpriest. "May the Omnissiah bless your path with the strength of it's will, Captain."

As the Magos takes his leave, you note Athe parting ways from a stoic Canoness Laci and a second woman sporting a parchment-colored robe. Lacking her usual confidence, Athe pauses before you. Taking a slow, deep breath, your XO meets your gaze. You note a fine, unfamiliar metallic chain resting upon her neck, vanishing beneath her tunic as she hesitates. "Permission to come aboard, Captain Phryx?"

"Permission granted, friend. I feared that I'd be forced to replace you with several officers, Athe."

Your oldest friend smiles, and you note that her eyes are increasing in moisture levels. "That would have been inefficient of you, Elesh."

This is the problem. Normally, I would just say "sure, send your (guardsman/acolyte/initiate/whatever) along, they'll be in great hands!" then murder them and make up a sob story, but I am loath to murder a fellow servant of the Omnissiah. Still, if needs must... Maybe we can convert her? (To our side, not to a servitor. Though...)

Also, it might be that he's actually just trying to foist off a troublemaker/not-very-bright minion on us, though I think that unlikely.

On the bright side, she can't just break into the communications room and send a message, or something like that, as in other settings, she'll have to actually get an astropath to send any news back, so preventing her from reporting her findings (or altering what she reports) shouldn't be too hard.

Oh, also, we need a backup las weapon or two on our person. They're reliable, can fire a lot of shots consecutively, and the ammo is much cheaper and easier to replenish than bolts, while still being reasonably killy against anything that's not some form of horrible monstrosity (and lets face it, if we come up against something like that while aboard ship, sub-par shooting will be the least of our worries).

    >>18257651
I like that idea. Even better, we could attach a parrot costume to a servoskull, and have a communications set in there.

Sword of the Omnissiah and Amalgum Sister once again return to the open void as you set course for the system edge. Aegis Squadron again shadows your command, sister superior Ethel sharing some interesting rumors of suspected Xenos raids enslaving settlements across the sector and space hulks appearing from the warp and vanishing in Saregin's Path and the Norovictus system.

Though your first warp journey takes several days longer than expected, you arrive in the Nocturnin system with no adverse events occuring. Using Nocturnin II's gravity well to slingshot around the worst of the system's asteroid fields, you encounter Domum Emendationem and Enshrouded Sire on their way to Saregin's Path. Both Magos Taylor and Captain Wilson commend you on your capture of the Sword, informing you that they'd surrendered their claims on the Zephyr Spirit's hull to you. Thanking the duo for their generosity, you wish their new mission success and press onward toward the Tortuga system, your ships once again swimming thru the warp without incident. It is during this second jump that you approach Athe, but she rebuffs your concern and simply informs you that time heals all wounds. You bite back a comment about time also seeing the destruction of all things, conviced her flesh brain would not appreciate such a response.
    >> MachineSpirit !!ZwhWAwcuTHG 03/08/12(Thu)21:06 No.18258441
The Tortuga system is your home, specifically Belius Airum, the primary shipyard of the system. Where Amalgum Sister once sat in pieces, another raider keel has been set down. Several vessels hail Sword of the Omnissiah, praising or cursing your good fortune with enthusiasm. In short order, your ships make for the main hub of Belius Airum, home of Magos Banks' vast factorums and munititoriums. Athe's mood shows marked improvement as she once again barks orders to your bridge crew, despite the fact that your MIU continues to make such things unnecessary.

"Captain, Magos Banks requests you meet him once we've docked, and asks you to bring along any officers you wish to keep from his provided crew." Voidsman Quein seems nervous as he conveys the message from your provided astropath.

    > Would you like to bring along any crew? (Adept Advi and Athe were not provided by Magos Banks, while Armswoman Julin and Voidsman Quein were)

"And be sure to wear something presentable, Voidsman." The scarred man shoots you a sloppy salute before exiting the bridge with his assignment.

Athe soon claims the space beside your throne, a hand hesitantly reaching for your shoulder. "Captain, I apologize for my behavior since my return. I believe I have forgotten to thank you for stopping in Selentus for my sake. I don't know how to thank you, Elesh." Your medicae mechidendrite notes fluid seeping from your XO's eyes as your cogitators calculate the correct response for such a situation. Your flesh brain scofts at the logic circuits as it instructs a utility mechadendrite to wrap about Athe in her uncharacteristic moment of weakness. The ship's spirit curiously watches the events through your connected senses, and you silently ponder the implications of your mind dangerously merging with the animalistic spirit. Eventually Athe removes herself from your side, citing a need to gather local market prices for your collected spoils, perhaps a quote on destroying a certain power sword as well.

Within the hour you stand before Magos Banks, reciting your adventure to the most minute of details when he requests you do so. Armswoman Julin and Voidsman Quein flank you, occasionally verifying some of the more amazing details of your explots when asked.

"You have done well, Elesh. With Magos Taylor and Captain Wilson surrendering their shares of the Spirit's prize value to you, I believe that you have the makings of a small fleet in the works!" Banks' is clearly proud of what he surely believes is his doing in your success as he confirms the will of Julin and Quein, both eager to serve under you after the trouble you went through to save Athe's life. Perhaps your flesh brain's attachments aren't all bad after all...

"And now the matter of your share in the Spirit's spoils, Captain. As commander of the raiding force, you get first choice of her cargo, and with the additional shares from Taylor and Wilson, you have a 75% share of the Spirit to my 25%. As your patron, I claim 15% share in your Sword class frigate, though I'll accept your 40% share in the Amalgum Sister as payment to buy me out of the Sword..."

    >choose 1 cargo from the Zephyr Spirit

Raiders are a risky lot to own shares in, as they are often lost in battle. On the other hand, owning shares essentially gives you free income from the ship's endeavors while you do whatever you please.

Owning your ship gives the advantage of not splitting loot (unless you are working with other ships, generally those cases result in even splits of the spoils, with commanding captains getting first choice)

    >1 cargo
    >Could we have our techpriests check that macrocannon battery before we decide?

The macrocannon would have to be partially assembled before you could determine the make, as the containers were unlabled. For all you know, it could just be universal components.

the Sword has room for an additional weapon battery.

the value of shares is generally a 2:1 ratio as you climb this rough "ladder" of hull value (for privateers at least)
    Transports>Raiders>Frigates>Cruisers>etc

certain exceptions exist, depending on how rare or useful a ship hull is.
If you were to sell your share of the spirit for wealth, you could easily get 100+ shares, depending on the buyer and fluxes in the market.

current offer for the raider shares is "buyout for buyout", you'll need to roll 1d100 for each negotiation you wish to attempt (note, failure CAN make the offers WORSE)

Hmmm. Switching our part-ownership of the Sister for full ownership of the Sword seems like a good idea, especially if we can get a bit extra to go with it (we are exchanging almost twice as much of a share%, after all).
As for the Zephyr Spirit, though it would be nice to have a second ship, I say we sell our percentage and use the earnings to fix up the Sword, since I very much doubt we have enough to fix them both up, get a crew for both, and get a trustworthy commander for whichever we don't man ourself.
Actually, if we can fix up the Sword with, say, the profits from ~50% of the shares on the Zephyr, plus whatever extra we can get from the 40%Sister->25%Sword exchange, we may be able to go off and do our own thing, leaving Banks to handle the Zephyr, and just check back every so often for a share of the profits, presumably in thrones/compact but valuable goods, to prevent Banks having to store large/heavy stuff for long periods for us (don't want unexpected warehouse charges, after all).
This gives us a fair degree of independence, while not making us totally reliant on our one ship. Thoughts?

You quickly accept the offer to gain full ownership of Sword of the Omnissiah and claim the unidentified macrocannon assemblies as your spoils from the Spirit. After a lengthy negotiation, you corner Magos Banks with supreme application of logic, selling him 30% of the Spirit's share to give him majority ownership of the perfectly intact ship, netting your coffers 90 wealth, and an additional 5 when he enslaves the surrendered crew. Surely, he regrets teaching you to be such a shrewd negotiator at this moment. After inspecting the agreement written up by the Magos' scribe, you both agree that your shares of profit are best delivered in the form of wealth or small cargos, to avoid any stocks wasting space as they dominate a cargo hold.

Magos Banks wishes you good fortune as you excuse yourself, eager to put your earning to good use repairing -your- frigate.
