    38 KB Privateer Quest MachineSpirit !!V73EN+A6MJw 03/02/12(Fri)17:40 No.18178730
Nine years. Nearly a decade of sweat, blood, and pain. You clawed your way up from nothing, intent on escaping one constricting hell after another. By chance or perhaps fate, your journey has led you to this day, your moment to prove yourself as a ship's captain. Succeed and you'll have a ship to command; fail and you'll likely be dead.

Your reverie is broken by the vox system's static, followed by your XO's voice. "Captain, the target convoy is entering the ambush zone. Domum Emendationem and Enshrouded Sire are standing by. We'll break silent run when you arrive on the bridge, sir."

A slight surge courses through your form as you don your custom void suit, your cogitators relinquishing their dominance as you indulge in the excitement filling your flesh brain. With great care you inspect your suit's carapace for flaws, marveling at the creation's form as it protects your remaining flesh. Satisfied, you grab your lasgun and head for your bridge. You note your flesh brain's surge of pleasure at the thought of this ship being your own. Frankly, you'd have built a better Hazeroth.

Your XO, Athe, gives you a nod as you enter the bridge and make your way toward your captain's chair. You savor the feel of your new chair as she collects the ship's status verbally. Your MIU floods the information across your memory banks, making the action pointless, but sometimes the unaugmented persons that surround you need such pointless things. Perhaps upgrades are required in the future.
"Captain on the bridge! All stations report your status! Engineering!"
"Reactors online, void shield stable. Damage control teams at their stations, sir."
    "Helm!"
    "Helm ready"
    "Weapons!"
    "Weapons hot and heavy!"
    "Augers!"
    "Augers beginning sweep"
    "Damage Control!"
    "All stations reporting go"

"Captain, your ship and squadron await your orders."

Do we have any idea how many of the ships in the convoy are escorts/which ones are the escorts? We obviously need to single those out first once we've closed in.

What is our ship armed with and are we following a plan with the other ships?

due to being on silent running, your scanners were passive only, providing little information.

you only know that all enemy ships are escort sized or smaller transports.

You are free to engage any way you wish. You're a pir- a privateer, not some sort of military!

For ship info, you'll have to order focused auger scans on a selected ship.

You can also give orders to your allies.

I say we keep on course for now and stay on silent. If we can see them on scanners, I imagine we'll be seen soon enough but let's not force it until they start reacting to us. If we can get closer before they notice us, better for us.

Then let's hope our sensors get some better readings soon. Still think we should just keep heading forward for now. We don't have any long range weapons.
    >> Anonymous 03/02/12(Fri)18:55 No.18179387
I say we move into the convoy's path and switch to active sensors, while the other two ships in our squadron remain silent and drop in behind the convoy to support us should the escorts open fire.
    >> !UdzMmUq0Oc 03/02/12(Fri)18:55 No.18179389
Let's start with getting some scans on and find out who were shooting, and which is the target. If we can't get all their IDs with one ship's scans, we'll get the lead ship, have the other two get the center, and closest to us.

Once we have ship IDs, and demand their surrender.

Do the barracks house troops that can be used in boarding, or what ever?

    >>18179389
I'll need 1d100 for the orders given to your ship (scan with augers)

in the future, would you all prefer consensus or d20 roll for which plan to use? (using this plan to keep moving)

You order directed auger scans to identify enemy vessels as your squadron breaks from hiding, Enshrouded Sire altering course slightly to attack the enemy flank. Your cogitators spin as your ship's auger scans on the lead ship return, Athe's voice piercing the ambient noise of the bridge as her flesh brain latches onto the information as well. "Sword class frigate identified! She's packing a battery of Mars macrocannon and sunsears! Captain, this isn't good!"

"Magos Taylor to Captain Phryx. The nearest vessel is a cobra class destroyer, augers aren't giving us any more information."

"Sire to Sister, center contact is an Orion Class Transport. We believe she has Mars pattern macrocannon on her dorsal and ventral batteries."

    >Orders?
    >INFO: Sunsear batteries have 9 range to your squadron's 6 range and pack a bigger punch!

How does a destroyer compare with our ships for size?

    >>18179771
The cobra class destroyer is a raider-sized hull, nearly the same dimensions as your Hazeroth class raider. Your allies are both Havoc-class raiders, similar in size to the Sword class frigate, but less durable.

weapon-wise, your ships and the cobra class have 1 prow and 1 dorsal weapon, while the Sword's weapons are both dorsal mounted
    >> Anonymous 03/02/12(Fri)19:49 No.18179872
    >>18179821
Well let's keep scanning but if there are only two escorts, I think it might be best to focus fire the Cobra class down first since it's weaker. Although I suppose that depends on how the transports react. Flying into the middle of their formation wouldn't be wise.
    >> MachineSpirit !!V73EN+A6MJw 03/02/12(Fri)19:55 No.18179938
So scan the remaining ships and continue on course?
Your ship must move, but can slow its momentum if you wish.

either way, i'll need a roll for each order.

Without a word you send your orders to your allies, though you spare a moment to verbalize them to your own bridge, "Alter course and prepare to target the Cobra when it comes about!" The extra metallic ring from your echo once again pleases your flesh brain.

The auger feeds pour into your cogitators as you combat an unusual sensation of panic at the Sword's presence. The frigate's course becomes erratic as it begins to come around toward your position, while the Cobra and Orion alter their courses away from your squadron. The nearest unidentified contact moves with the swift pair, while the last contact begins to slowly turn away as well.

"Sire to Sister, tally ho on the Zephyr Spirit! She's a slow Vagabond, shouldn't be a problem chasing her down once we deal with these escorts!"

Athe moves toward the auger console, leaning over the young machine spirit's display with a firm grip on the console. You note that she often does this while studying charts and maps.
