Rain spattered upon the canvas of the wagon Ned and Jack were riding in. They were crammed in next to a few other undesirables. The Legionnaires marched in order beside the procession, and the driver sneezed, reaching up to pull down the hood of his cloak a little more. Everyone within the wagon had been arrested for involvement with the "7th ward riots". The most troublesome of them all had been laid low by powerful spellcasters from the Legion.

The city they rode through was a sprawling metropolis which hugged the Gulf of Blood, so named for the tragic sacrifice of so many Legion soldiers when hundreds of years ago Lord Drakensver, the emperor, lead them to victory and claimed this land as his own.

Its been a long time since then, generations have passed, and few keep enough records to make sense of what happened back then. Immaes Drakensver is the eighth lord to take the throne since then.

All of this would be inconsequential to mercenaries and dirt farmers, common work for peasants like Jack and Ned's family. Unfortunately, one of the outlying agriculture wards, the 7th ward to be precise, was currently harboring a gang of criminals whom had "stolen precious relics from the legion" and "trespassed into a forbidden ruin" in the catacombs below the city.

The party remembers one of the names involved, they kept interrogating Ned and Jack about another man by the name of Godmir, and whether or not they knew the gang he was travelling with. And thats when everything got blown out of proportion.

The iron fisted approach of the Legion lead to mothers crying about sons, and fathers punching Legion officials, as everyone in the entire ward was dragged into this investigation in the middle of the night. One fight lead to another, and then you had an entire troop of Legion soldiers fighting a mob of Peasants.

Jack and Ned drift into and out of consciousness, having been heavily charmed, heavily drugged, and bruised all over. It all happened so fast, that one minute they were defending their innocence, and the next minute they're here, being transported to an Undercity Jail. They are bound, but not gagged.

    >Namefags, present thyselves.

    >Any questions before we begin?

    >>18097173

The Legion is a generally benevolent force, forwarding the wishes of Lord Drakensver and the Nobles. Nothing like this had happened in anyone's memory, at least not within recent years. They have always had very strict laws about the Old Ruins. But they've always kept a tight guard, and criminal scum have always been found and help responsible immediately. Never has a large group ever been brought in, least of all an entire city ward. Both of you remember crowds of people being herded through the gates two miles back.

There are, in fact, so many people being brought in, that the legion simply doesn't have enough men or time to process them all and frisk them all. Ergo, you were thrown into the back of this wagon with all of your gear, carried or stuffed in packs.

The next thing either of you remember, is waking up to the sound of metal trays scraping along a stony floor, as Ned and Jack both wake up inside a 10x10 prison cell, lit by torches in the hallway, and secured by iron bars. Bread is being pushed under the bars, and two large cups of water are being set down by a comely serving maid. Both of you feel strangely refreshed, and have your entire inventory. There is one other older man in the cell with you, sleeping on one of four racks. and wearing rags.

Mainly human. There are rumors that the Drakensver line have draconic ancestors. And there is Lady Lustria Briarwood an Elvin noble by marriage.

But mostly human. Non-human settlements are either indentured slaves in the case of evil alignments. Or "independant" states that still have to tithe or trade to the empire for a variety of reasons I'd need a flow chart to explain. So the dwarven halls are still dwarven, but they can't avoid having to trade or pay taxes.

This has sparked some civil unrest in some areas, but the diplomancers and ass-hats in politics generally smooth things over.

    d100 for depth underground

Jack sees the hallway stretch left and right a hundred feet, before making a ninety degree turn eastwards (the direction you are now facing) at both ends.

The serving girl startles at the gruff looking dwarf and hurries to the next cell to provide that man with food.

The bread is stale, and does not satisfy.

You hear a murmur from the old man, and he rises. "Humm-na... What?" The human enquires. He has salt and pepper hair, a greasy face, tanned complexion, and beggar's clothes. "I don't even know. Umm... The first time I said I didn't know what was going on- they believed me. Then..." He scratches his scalp and yawns then.

Of course. This is your first time in jail.

    >>18097610

You were not mighty enough to bend the bars.

You hear a grating noise, and then a crack as if something wooden was breaking. The voice from down the hall cusses.

There's another sound of doors slamming shut, this time echoing down the same block Jack and Ned is in. And then the ground shakes, rumbling for a brief second. As if something in the dungeon had been crashed into or broken.

The prisoners begin to yell and panic, have already been in an irritable mood. The older man in the same cell as you both rises, furrowing his brows as he walks towards the bars. "What in the world?"

Then there's screaming from the northernmost cell.

Both of you can see with your infravision, something hot is oozing into the hallway from underneath the bars of the northern cells. A liquid of some kind.

Then the complex shakes again, two bars pop out of their sockets in the floor, stone cracking under them. They warp the lock holding the bars shut also. Perhaps this is a good thing.

But the reason for all of this becomes clear as something swirls into existence against the northern wall to your cell, and you see clawed hands climbing out of something you've never seen before. Some kind of gaping hellish portal. A creature is emerging.

i found rules in the DMG!
    >> Jack !h7IjS0FwKk 02/25/12(Sat)20:23 No.18099467
When any creature is brought to 0 hit poinis (optionally as low as -3 hit points if from the same blow which brought the total to 0), it is unconscious. In each of the next succeeding rounds 1 additional (negative) point will be lost until -10 is reached and the creature dies. Such loss and death are caused from bleeding, shock, convulsions, non-respiration, and similar causes. It ceases immediately on any round a friendly creature administers aid to the unconscious one. Aid consists of binding wounds, starting respiration, administering a draught (spirits, healing potion, etc.), or otherwise doing whatever is necessary to restore life.
Any character brought to 0 (or fewer) hit points and then revived will remain in a corna far 1-6 turns. Thereafter, he or she must rest for a full week, minimum. He or she will be incapable of any activity other than that necessary to move slowly to a place of rest and eat and sleep when there. The character cannot attack, defend, cast spells, use magic devices, carry burdens, run, study, research, or do anything else. This is true even if cure spells and/or healing potions are given to him or her, although if a heal spell is bestowed the prohibition no longer applies. If any creature reaches a state of -6 or greater negative paints before being revived, this could indicate scarring or the loss of some member, if you so choose. For example, a character struck by a fireball and then treated when at -9 might have horrible scar tissue on exposed areas of flesh - hands, arms, neck, face.

    ...1st ed is harsh!

You shout is responded by the man from the north. "HEY! I'm Ray! I'm not a doctor, but get me out of here and I'll help you! Everyone in here is dead! Please help me!"

You also hear a crackling noise, and the roof warps slightly, stone cracking and crumbling, bars literally falling out of place. You've never seen anything like that, as if the ceiling was alive.
