    TG QUEST!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18019501/

Short Summary: Having arrived at the infamous 8-bit Dystopia, you find yourself on the opposing end of the schemes of a rogue Transpace Guard researcher turned monster, Dr. Grimm. Having communed with the Goddesses of Hyrule, you have learned much, determining that Grimm seeks to stamp out the last heroes of the City, and you must stop him.

You also managed to locate Dr. Light's broadcast spot, a relay deep in the Pipes, as well as discovering that Dr. Robotnik has seized a Subspace Bomb, Dr. Wily has acquired research data from the Men of Iron, and MetPharm is working on researching the three gems of Hyrule.

You made an attempt to recon the dig site, but were beaten back by Metal Man, and your attempt to contact Dr. Light took a setback when Spike was nearly devoured by rabid Goombas. However you eventually managed to contact the good Doctor and gain some valuable information, including a place to gather more information from drunken, dissatisfied workers.

As Spike entered Jay's Bar along with a cloaked Auror and began to pump the inhabitants for information, your X-COM team succeeded in making use of their knowledge of X-COM emergency protocols to find and listen in on X-COM NOVA's secret transmissions, allowing you to gain valuable intelligence on them.

When we last left off, the Command Crew was mulling over the information they had received and Spike was still happily eating and drinking while talking on the company dime.

I think support and participation in this quest has waned dramatically and is near 0. Perhaps it would be best to put it on hold for a while, while the other 40 quest threads per day move forward.

Oh, I've also gotten a decent writefaggotry for Wayrf, which is a combination of a Dwarf Fortress Mermaid Factory, and the Gravemind from Halo.
Is it an antagonist? No, it's one of the guard's allies. And perhaps should give you an idea why an intelligent being that can talk its way out of any situation is one of the scariest motherfuckers you'll ever encounter.

Anyway, dropping trip to watch/participate/do nothing/sleep. Gogo

Can't do it here. Should I just make a new thread after you go to sleep later today?

Did we drain a MetPharmer for information? If not, do that.

See if the Storm's sensors can find a bar in the Robotnik area of the city with scientists or worker-types in it. We might head there next.
Ask Light what he'd need from us to set up 2 Spybots that could infiltrate Wily, AND a Spybot that could infiltrate Robotnik. Tell him we trust whoever he's got in Metpharm.
Also ask him if it would be possible to somehow disguise a biological unit as one of MetPharm's various creatures. I know he's not a biologist, but -we- have biologists, so if he provides some creative insight or pointers or intuition on how to get started, we can probably handle much of the gruntwork.

Better ideas were rejected in favor of yours because some anons were too enamored with your running of another quest and your supposed brilliance.

    Fucking dammit.

Anyway, have the X-COM team go over the X-COM ZWEI cover story, and make sure that it fits in with the emergency protocols used by X-COM, so that it's believable.

If we have ion weapons, have the Delta Green squad and VP-99 prepare to beam down again, but this time targeting a Robodyne badnik for its IFF transponder. Use the strategy we used last time, including the use of a restraining bolt, and exographic scanners and microtransporter equipped sniper rifles to take down the robots from a distance.

Odd. Whenever I didn't post, we seemed to have less people playing than when I did.
It seems that me playing the quest increased the number of people playing! How strange.

Your delusions and hatred are admirable, and I'm kind of envious of your ability to fly in the face of the obvious and come up with all kinds of ridiculous conclusions. It'd certainly help me deal with things I don't like.

Such as the fact that, due to the board having about 50 active quests, it's difficult to get new players for this one, so people who leave aren't replaced and participation goes down over time. It's a problem to which there's no answer, and we'll just have to wait to deal with it.

Finally: Quit bein' mad on the internet.

The Auror finds the mind of the MetPharm worker, like Ridley, strangely slippery, a touch inhuman. However, he is able to grab a few passcodes, protocols, and the location of the worker's lab before he cannot stand it any longer and breaks the connection. This worker is employed at a bioimplant complex, probably not connected to the Time research, but the Auror was able to glean a few general use codes that might come in handy.

This one, Heretical Love, Kobold Quest, that one with the Black knight and rule of cool, and I bet there's at least 2 weeaboo quests that are pretty good.
If you get 2, or even 3 good quest threads on the front page, you think "It's a pretty neat idea" and make your own. Lots of good comes of it, and I like it. But it means that MetaOP's creative ideas, and my own, need to take a back seat to those of people who are better and more engaging writers than we are.

Their standing forces are a goddamn joke compared to what you'd need to put up meaningful resistance to an invasion force. Yep! Lots of one-page threads starting up over the course of a week. There were probably even more than 50! With THAT many people making threads, it's no wonder that there's going to be "The top 10%" of pure concentrated awesome that pushes MetaOP and I off the board.

It's good! It means that quests even BETTER than this one are here to participate in, and there's no reason to be upset at all. If this quest lacks players, it's because they're in a better game.
If my quest lacks players, it means someone's better at running quests than I am, and I could learn from them how to better!

There are many bad things that happen in this world, but the great amount of creative energy pouring out of /tg/ at the moment is not one of them. It is, in fact, completely frickin' awesome, and you should calm down and smile, rather than be upset. :)

All told there are about 250 fighters split into 25 10-plane squadrons, and about 6 capital ships. Considering they have an entire solar system to patrol, that isn't very much.

Read people's minds so we know how an infiltrator could enter the company.
    Make spybots.
    Hack the internet for spying.
Ensure observers and Storm sensors can see into the Corp HQs.
Possibly recruit magical support, such as Ghosts or Gods or Spirits or Fate or something to act as guiding forces and spotters.

We're going to put together an infiltration team for each major area. It might be comprised of only drones, only spec ops units, only heroes, or some combination of the three.

The Infiltration team is to learn whatever it can about the four locations, possibly sabotage the Teleportation-blocker, electricity generator, base defenses, or such, then get the hell out.
They will have the full support of all the intel pertinent and updated as often as possible, and hopefully all of our legwork will be enough to let them finish their mission.

    That's our plan for now.

After that, with our intel, we can sabotage the anti-teleport field directly (or just smash the fucking roofs in until we reach our target), drop in our attack teams, and bumrush our way to stealing Wily's Dataslate, Robotnik's bomb, the MetPharm time crystals, the Temple of Time's UFOPaedia, and get out.

A howl of pain suddenly cuts through the haze of chatter filling the air. Barbarian stumbles back from his seat, sparks flying from his chest and arms as a trio of shuriken bury themselves almost completely in the cyborg's enhanced body. A dark blue blur Spike can recognize as a man in ninja garb dashes for Barbarian as he draws his massive sword. The attacker draws a shining ninja-to from a sheath at his belt and drives it into the cyborg enforcer. Barbarian roars in pain again and attempts to lop off the ninja's head. The ninja nimbly jumps back, slashing with his sword again to cause another cascade of sparks to erupt.

As this happens the remaining bar patrons scramble for the door or take cover in their booths or under their tables, pure chaos erupting as no one wants to get in between Barbarian and someone stupid enough, or skilled enough to challenge him.

Either way, since the head is out of sight, let's have the auror grab that while cloaked first, and send it up quickly to be nannybagged, going into somewhere more private to do the telporting, of course. We can grab the body at anytime in the next few hours, it's the brain that is most time-sensitive.

Even though we have a bunch of unused lightsabers lying around, they don't have guide bars or any idiot-friendly addons unlike the NMH canon's beam katanas. It would take more time to R&D the lightsabers to have guide bars and stuff than it is to buy a couple off Orange Computer or something.

    >It's not really a tank - they were just called tanks because of the secrecy of the weapons program. A Tank is a sort of advanced VTOL craft; probably the most maneuverable fighting vehicle in the history of mankind. Each Tank was fitted with then state-of-the-art weapons systems, energy blasters that still put most of today's heavy weapons to shame.

    >Most were lost during the Crash, and we don't make any nowadays. Why bother? It's all civil protection and suppression nowadays. A few Tanks remain, locked up in warehouses, forgotten. The mothballed remains of old world governments and decency, a lost legacy of heroes. Nobody knows exactly where the Tanks are now, maybe that's for the best. Mankind doesn't deserve them. We sold our souls for a little safety, killed our pride for security and spat in the face of liberty and justice. There are no heroes left in man.

The Auror begins to cast the spell just as someone to his side gets up with a half-empty mug. The RoboDiner being considerably less spacious than Jay's Bar, and the Auror being invisible... leads to less than ideal results.

The patron runs right into the Auror, sending the mug spilling all over him, the black liquor coating parts of the magician and making him visible while the collision sends him sprawling to the floor. The security agent whose mind was being read blinks hard and pulls a walkie-talkie from his belt while grabbing for a gun with the other.

NOD armor has many benefits, but looking nonthreatening is not one of them.

Auror should stun the guard and run, star lord should keep his head down, act like everyone else is, maybe run out with the other people in the bar as they flee the man in power armour.
Auror seems like a real threat, everyone concentrates on him while star lord is seen as just another guy trying to survive.

The Auror stuns hapless Ned with a wave of his wand, then dashes into the kitchen, startling the cooks working there. He doesn't pause, running straight into the walk-in freezer and slamming the door. The Indefatigable beams him out before he gets TOO cold.

Star-Lord keeps his head down and looks around, feigning confusion.

Auror, now would be a GOOD time to bedazzle everyone in the area and teleport out. Perhaps Stupefy people. We CAN teleport him out, right?
Anyway, teleport in another Auror and go again.

    Read Ned.

    Star-Lord acts non-suspicious.

    >What are you going to have the ghost do?
Act as infiltrators, d'uh! Nothing beats having a Ghost check places out for you. What are they gonna do, kill him?
So, we might as well hit up any War graves, especially graves of those who died in Corp v. Corp combat, with Tosh - and recruit some Ghosts to act as infiltrators.
Same thing we'd do with Gadget. Act as an infiltrator!

Or, is there something wrong with getting more infiltrators for the infiltration mission? If so, I'd like to hear why, rather than you yelling loudly like a moron and providing no constructive ideas :)

While Star-Lord continues talking, have Gondegal prepare to beam down.
We'll first have him check out Robodyne HQ; less likely to be spotted in a place with mostly machines.

Have him go invisible and incorporeal, and see if he can find Robotnik, as well as the Interdiction Field Generator.

I guess that means that it's time to start arguing over requisitions, looting, and who's to blame for what.

Do all our ships have teleporters? If not, we should fit them all with them.
Can we make teleporters? If not, we should ask for the plans to make them sometime.

I think we should gat as much contruction and manufacturing gear as we can, along with the plans to whatever we can get, because requisitions is going dry.

    >>18065359
What are you going to offer to get the spirits to work with us? What are we going to use to anchor them so that they can leave the graveyards?

And that's assuming that any of the Human graveyards will work. If it's only the Hylian ones, then that's just asking for more trouble.

We already have a ghost on the payroll, who is working with us, and is in full possession of his faculties.

As for sending Gadget to the Dig Site: the Site is still patrolled by an upgraded Metal Man.
You are sending a Canon Character into a potential fight with an Antagonist with Meta-Contaminant upgrades.
This sounds like a recipe for more Canon-damage.

As for me providing no constructive ideas:
I've already provided the plan for the capture of the Robotnik IFF transponder, the idea of using Gondegal to infiltrate Robodyne, and of how we can use bribed corp personnel to facilitate our strike teams.

Which is more than I can say for your ideas.

    In preparation for next session:

Gondegal goes on a spying mission into Robodyne.
It would be fantastic if we could a tricorder in recording mode that could phase-shift with Gondegal so that he could carry it and it could phase through matter with him. We should test to see if he can make objects that he holds immaterial as well. This would help immensely in identifying the Interdiction Field Generator, and we could tag the Meta-Contaminant with a transporter beacon so that we could beam it out as soon as the Interdiction Field goes down.

Before he goes, however, we should show him pictures of Robotnik and various different types of Interdiction Field Generators so he knows what to look for.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/12(Thu)13:22 No.18068803
Wait, we were able to make it so Gondegal doesn't need a focus anymore?
Also, while we have a solid plan for infiltrating Robodyne, and I have faith in plan 'forgery and bribery', what are we going to do to handle Metpharm?
And is Metpharm technically a problem? Like while them obtaining the Spiritual Stones and opening the Door of Time is certainly a very very bad thing, it doesn't really seem to be invalidating the Canon the way Wily having Men of Iron technology and Robotnik having subspace bombs.

Yes, Gondegal no longer requires an anchor.
The Gurus are still anchored, though.

As for MetPharm, yes, they're much less of a Meta-threat than Wily or Robotnik, but that doesn't mean we can allow them to keep the Meta-Contaminants.

Infiltrating them will be much harder, I admit. Their bio-implants are much more difficult to fool, and they seem to have headware brain implants.
But they can still be bribed, and we still need to get in there.

Fortunately, the Ghostbusters and their technology aren't here, so not even MetPharm will have weapons that can faze Gondegal.
We will likely need him as part of the strike team for MetPharm.

The strike on MetPharm could go like this:

We use our Federation equipment, Engineering Bay, and scientists to pass a tricorder and a trio of transporter beacons through a phase-variance field to phase-shift their quantum frequency to match that of Gondegal, allowing him to go incorporeal with the tricorder and beacons.

Gondegal finds the Three Jewels and tags them with transporter beacons.

X-COM NOVA, operating with some clandestine support from X-COM VALKYRIE (our task force), mount an assault on the MetPharm HQ.

We use the attack to slip a shadowrunner team into the building. They use the floor plan we have and Gondegal's support to hit the Interdiction Field Generator. As soon as the field is down, we beam the Jewels, the runner team, and Gondegal out.

This is, of course, just a rough outline, not yet including loadouts or other preparations.

Remember the Auror's spell pattern for the Stone Soup Crawl.

Get a list of good spells.

Avis, Deprimo, Diffindo, Reducto, Expeliarmus, and transfiguration would be good.

Use avis spells to distract enemies and incoming fire.

Creative use of transfiguration spells against enemies. Turn them into harmless objects.

Use deprimo to collapse the floor under the enemies' feet.
    >> Anonymous 02/24/12(Fri)15:47 No.18083840
    >>18083504
Avis - May be useful against undisciplined human targets and simple automated turrets to overwhelm their targeting heuristics.
I wouldn't depend on it working too well against Robot Masters, more advanced bioroids, MetPharm bio-enhanced soldiers, and disciplined security troops that use automatic weapons or grenade launchers.

Deprimo - May work, may not. These are corporate HQ's, the floor structure is likely to be reinforced.

Reducto - Could be useful. Basically gives the Aurors the magical equivalent of a Disruptor Rifle.

Expeliarmus - Useful against human guards, but not so much against the robots of Wily and Robotnik, or the bio-weapons of MetPharm.

Transfiguration - Most effective, next to Reducto.
However, it all depends on the spell hitting a target that's faster than human.

I suggest that the Auror prepare several charmed objects in advance and probably potions to set up traps.

Stuff that alters the terrain drastically to fuck up with any pursuing enemies is good.

As for transfiguration, I would say, to use it with the element of surprise. What I mean by that is with a patrol that is unaware, or isn't on their guard yet, or if the enemy is occupied with someone else or something else.
    >> Anonymous 02/24/12(Fri)16:18 No.18084103
    >>18083998
    What charmed objects?
    Which potions?
    What kinds of traps?
    Be specific!

Considering that we'll be fighting inside of corporate buildings, being able to create instant walls is about the extent of usefulness, and they have to be steel at minimum to be of any use against the security robots and their weapons.

We still need to get more specific information from corp security personnel regarding the security systems inside of the Wily, Robodyne, and MetPharm buildings.
They've most likely got multiple security feeds that go to a central security controller, that then updates all security robots. Depending on the sensors they use, invisibility may not be enough to get a drop on the enemy (if they use air pressure sensors or sensor plates on the floor, or millimeter-wave scanners.

    Can Aurors make potions?
Like from their Canon, specific ingredients are needed as well as a lot of time and effort. And due to the magical nature of the ingredients, I'm not sure if our replicators can handle them.

...Also isn't Transfiguration one of the more difficult spells? I'm pretty sure it requires large amounts of concentration.

    >Also are we going to be raiding Metpharm... nowish?
    Oh hell, no.
This is just the plan, which is specific enough to be useful as an outline, but loose enough to accommodate changes due to new intel.

We're still going to try bribing anyone and everyone we can at the three corps before we send in the strike teams.

Well, the Abjurers have a large selection of spells due to their access to our Spell Database.
But remember that they use the Vancian magic system, so we need to plan out their spell loadouts appropriately beforehand.

If we could modify their spells to work in another magic system that was less restricted, that would make them much more powerful.
