this is a continuation of a story from an earlier thread.
    >>17831654

It's been about three days since the strange ship, no bigger than a Cruiser, showed up on the planet. We've been keeping a wide berth of the area, and haven't been given orders to attack it yet. The AdMech, the Navy and high command all told us to stand down. The Admech want to investigate the ship because the thing practically smells of architect to them. The ship just appeared out of nowhere, quite literally. No warp signature, or nothing. I mean you need to use the warp to travel, right? The Navy didn't even know it was here until it had gone planetside. The squad and I was tasked with doing a bit of recon of the thing. We made it to a ridge overlooking it by a good ten kilometers away. When we got optical devices on it it looked as if they were Elysian's at first, those bastards always get all of the Admechs fun toys to play with, but the strange part is, our long range recording devices picked up nonsense.
They were clearly human, they were good and pink skinned like us, didn't look mutated; far to organized for Chaos, and their ship had Gothic characters on it. The only thing I could make out was " UNSC" and a bunch of other gobeldy gook. I don't know what Planet Unsc is, but they don't seem to be hostile. They haven't tried exploring the surface or going to attack the Tau yet. Captain says that tomorrow we might be sending a couple companies down to meet them personally. Knowing my luck, my Company is going to be one of the lucky " First contact" Survivors....

2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

Well... We are lost. In the truest sense of the word. We don't know what planet we are on, what system we are in, or even what day it is. The Ship's AI, Erin, Can't seem to figure it either. We didn't know you could hit a "rough patch" in slip-space. We lost some crew and a few others in the incident. Rest in peace Jimmy. Everything else went smooth, we landed the ship all right on the planet, and though we aren't on the right one, we think we found the war, alright. Scanners picked up many different class of warvessel, that is neither Covenant or UNSC. Preliminary intel shows that they are large but simple vessels that lack any kind of Slip-Space capability. We thought it could have been Insurgents, but something is amiss. Yesterday we send out a warthog to go recon the nearby area, when they returned they said they found people.
The report was sketchy but they mentioned something like entire battalions of troops fighting in trenches in an open field, kinda like in the Middle ages. But that they were wearing body armor similar to ours and using laser weapons. They couldn't understand the Markings on their structures either, it wasn't in English, or any trade language. they did mention they saw a bizarre Two-headed eagle. I don't like the sound of it. Baker will be heading out to go investigate tomorrow.

    Corporal Darvis out.

Thank the emperor I am alive! That was some of the most tense moments of my life. This is coming from a man who's fought an ork in hand to hand, and stared down a daemon. I don't know what to say, they defiantly weren't Elysians. When the Captain said a couple companies, I guess he forgot to mention the Other Bloody Half of the Regiment! If we sent a force that size to "meet" them, why didn't we just open fire when we saw the bastards! Well, we were ridding on our Chimera, yes, ontop of it... Bloody Kasrkins... when we made it to a clearing about a good four Kilometers from the ship. Bloody Thunder took the turn closest to the ridge, we took the corner practically blind. Without warning we crashes into this thing. It was an old wheeled vehicle with their soldiers on it. Jerks and I flew off BT, and landed on the vehicle, and their soldiers did the same.
The next few loris drove up and unloaded their troops. The rest of our company dismounted as well, and the Lemon Russ' targeted their poor excuse for a tank. The barrel on the damn thing was tiny! Both sides stood with weapons drawn screaming at eachother for maybe five minutes. I was pointing my weapon at the driver of the Lori, and he was doing the same. It just kept running through my mind, " Any second now some idiot is going to fire, and we are all going to die." Then Captain Doyle just strides up to them with his hand in the air and says. "Hi." Insane Bastard.

2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

I am at a loss. Simply at a loss. Well Baker turned into Charlie 2-5 and Sandman 2-1... The others mobilized a large force heading for us. Erin pretty much told us this "Meet them, but do not engage unless fired upon." Those orders may have saved us. As we were Loading up, I had the misfortune of driving one of the graves, the open top transport warthog. We had a contingent of about six of them in our company. Our plan was the egress through the ridge-line into some open field where we could use our mobility. Someone, who I am not listing in the official after action... Made the wrong turn at the pass and we went up the ridge line. It would have gotten us to our destination, but through very narrow passages. I think it was about when I turned to PFC Dawkins to tell him about a bad feeling that we crashed into what I could describe as.. well a metal box with treads. I would like to report that my turning away from the direction of egress had nothing to do with the destruction of Navy equipment. it was a blind turn.
The resulting collision hurled the occupants of my vehicle on to theres, and somehow vice versa; like they were riding on top of it. this is where the situation escalated. We started unloading our troops from the warthogs and drawing weapons on them. Their 'tanks', more like Big Freaking Guns on treads! Targeted our Scoprions. Man It was scary, we stood there yelling at eachother for a while, had this bastard in the passenger seat yelling at me pointing what looked like a medevil rifle at me, barking some unintelligible language. Then one of them Stick his hand in the air walks over to us and says "Ave." Captain Doyle, being a Harvard grad, knew latin, approached him and did the same. Insane Bastard!

    >Captain Doyle, being a Harvard grad, knew latin
Does that mean 20% of the German population could communicate in WH40k?
It's one of the two basic language choices in one of the three school forms.

On the other hand, I have my great latinum and literally don't know any grammar...

    >>17832891

Hah, I took Latin, passed with an A, can't use the language worth a shot.

I know pseudo-latin is used to represent High Gothic in 40k, but I don't think it is actual real-life latin. Most common people in 40k don't even speak high gothic at all; low gothic is the common language. High Gothic is reserved for ceremony, services, and high ranking members of Imperial society.
    >> Anonymous 02/06/12(Mon)15:47 No.17832946
    >>17832933
Well, latin was divided into vulgar and high latin when the Romans got the urge to protect their language from change so that their written works could be understood centuries later.
    >> Anonymous 02/06/12(Mon)15:51 No.17832974
the psudeo-latin is just used to show "this is an old language that many don't even know." In actual fluff, both high and low gothic are amalgamations of english, french, russian, spanish, chinese, and pretty much every language spoken by the peoples who made it into space. Basically, the UNSC would understand one of every few words. All this is irrelevant, however, because no one really cares.

Been about an hour now. Captain Doyle and the other man have been talking back and forth, or at least trying. its hard to make it out, but it sounds like he's speaking a kind of Gothic. I've been sizing up these guys, their armor is very... intricate to say the least, their helmets cover a good deal of their head's, and they seem to be linked to a kind of picto-display. Can't really make out what kind of Las weapon they have. Haven't gotten a better look then when it was pointed in my face, but I wasn't thinking about what manufactorum the thing was made from at that moment. By the lack of religious aquila's and readable unit designations I'm starting to think that these men aren't part of the Imperium at all. Which is absurd. Pretty sure the Emperor united all of mankind, even the tribal worlds, I would know I fought on them.
Second squad was sent back to retrieve someone from command. Most likely the Commissar. The vox is on the fritz, thats why we are sending runners... Hang on, Captain's coming this way... Imma try and inch closer so I can hear what he's saying to the major...

"..o idea what he's really saying, but I kinda got the jist of it. He's saying that his commander, Erin, and the Catpain of the ship wish to speak with our leadership. Should we trust them? They could be heretics."
"Hrmm, We'll wait for the Colonel and the Lord Commissar. Untill then just stand down, gather what intel you can. If these are just backwoods bumpkins I don't to cause a civil war."

Shite they are on to me, Corporal Darvis signing off!

Hour and fifteen minutes passed since first contact with what me and the boys are affectionately calling the medeagles. Its cheesy, but I like it. Captain Doyle and the other one have been prattling on for a while now. He's been saying stuff about how he can't really understand what is being said, but kinda gets the jist of it. Had to work with Higgens to see if we could get the Warthog to work again, the damn box pretty uch totaled the engine. When we brought out some tools and started working on the engine the Medeagels gave us the strangest look. Like we were committing a sin, they didn't do anything, just sat and watched as we tried to fix it up. Though looking at their vehicle it looked like they didn't know how to do even routine maintenance. It looked like it had parts from three different vehicles, like a Chimera transport of sorts.
I was a little busy fixing up the jeep, but I'd look over at them every so often, The looks they gave us... its hard to explain, like they were waiting for monsters to burst out of our chests and kill them all. It sounds insane but that's the feeling I got from them. Their technology looks so antiquated and rusted. hard to believe that they are firing lasers out of those things. Maybe the recon reports were made up, or maybe the enemy was using lasers. I think captain Dolye is done talking to the guy... Hey Higs, you wanna go check it out?
    "Sure."

I should probably do the proper activations rites on this damn recorder rather than pressing the button... *ehem*

This is Corporal Darvis, Zeta Company, second Battalion 89th Cadian Heavy Infantry Regiment.

Thats bloody mouthful... The Hangman showed up, The Colonel was too busy with other things so he sent in his Lieutenant, Their reaction to her was amusing, like They've never seen someone with cybernetic limbs. Still been watching the Unscians as the group discussed things. They haven't been doing anything too odd. They started messing with the machine spirit of the engine BT ran into. It offended a few others. But things have been relatively calm. Still tense, but its definitely better than the yelling and the guns in my face. I've been running it through my head what to do in case the "negotiations" break down and lasfire ensues. Jump behind BT, take a pot shot at the Lori.
I wonder what they are thinking... I also wonder if the Tau know about this incident. I mean they had to have seen the ship show up. I'm sure they know they are here. Damn blueberries always seem to be one step ahead of us. Its like they can get to a position before we know we are going there. Its satisfying to plunge a bayonet into their blue bodies. They aren't shite in hand to hand... I could prattle on for a while..
Well this is boring, I guess we just wait till they are done talking...

    Field Report!

After Coming to some terms of agreement, with the funny hat man and the robot girl, we started escorting them back to the Coming Day. Things were going well, until we reached this ridge. I think it was Sandman 2-1 that took a hit. The warthog was just destroyed. There was a couple beams of light, then just torn wreckage everywhere. We couldn't get out of the killzone, we had to dismount and engage with small arms. We took minor casualties. Our allies, who are indeed equipped with lasers, seemed all to willing to charge into enemy fire and engage in hang to hand. It was unbelievable. We managed to suppress the enemy long enough for the fearless bastards to charge in. They took the enemy position by storm, through fire and taking heavy losses. The fight was over within minutes
After getting closer to the enemy lines it was clear the aggressors weren't covenant. They were blue like the elite troops, but that's about where the similarities end.

    Corporal Darvis, Yadda Yadda Cadia!

*Ambient gunfire and explosions heard in the background*
Taking fire from the tau! They set up a forward engagement point to ambush us. We managed to charge in and get them before they could fall back like they love to do. Now the second firing line is opening up on us. I knew the attack was too easy, but it isn't like the Tau to sacrifice units. Maybe it was thanks to the Unscians and their heavy stubber fire keeping their heads down. Though I'm not too impressed with their resolve. I blame their lack of knowing the Tau, you can't just sit out a fire fight with them. To their credit those loris with the stubbers on them did get pretty close in a Cantabrian formation. Things are all buggered right now and I am heartly enjoying this rock I am taking cover behind.
    *Nearby explosion*
Frak that was close. I see the Unscians closing in on our position. Oi! Bekcmen Can you see the gunner on the left?
    "Which one?"
Hes right next to the rock that looks like a 'V' Hes got a bead on me.
*Engine revs up and the tires squeal as they kick up rock and dirt. The sound fades. Then a lasbolt crack*
"Think I got him.... Yeah he's deader than Horus."

Corporal Darvis, Zeta Company second battalion 89th Cadian HIR.

Hail to the Emperor, another victory! Glad to have seen myself through another hour of battle. We didn't even take that many losses, I'd say roughly ten to twenty killed, and maybe fifty wounded. Leadership did a quick sweep of the Unscies, they are sitting at about the same more or less, though they look like they have been devastated. Honestly they did pretty well all things considered. Like for starters, they are using antiquated stubbers, a very small caliber and a design I have never seen., but still solid state ammunition. Thats for cannons and artillery! Secondly they are very content to sit tights and fight the Tau from a far. Now I'm like any other red blooded human, I don't like the prospect of charging into gunfire, but with the Tau you have to. They look like they are losing, they fall back and shoot you with more troops. Though one thing I have to hand to them, and technosorcery be damned their Valkyries are simply amazing. I've never seen one turn so sharply.
They flew off to go fly by ours and turned around, though Things did get a little messy when our birds continued with their fire mission... We lost three more to that mistake, and I think the Unscians lost another as well, but the damnest thing, they opened up on the Valkyries! Shot one down! I mean This kinds stuff always happens in war, it's to be expected. We had to run up to then and pull their weapons away. I had to deck this one guy. The captain and the "ducthess" are talking with their guy right now about it. They don't look happy. Hope we move out soon this place is just an ambush paradise.

2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

We took a beating...Final headcount is as follows:
    Baker 2-3, 2 KIA 3 wounded
    Baker 2-4 3 KIA 5 wounded
    Baker 2-6, 8 KIA 16 wounded
    Sandman 2-1, 10 KIA
    Charlie 2-5 6 KIA....no wounded
out of the 12 warthogs 3 are undamaged, 4 are repairable, and the rest are slagged.
This is just horrible... First contact with the enemy, an we take such losses. Sarge says we'll get our revenge. Kinda worried this place will become another Harvest... The enemy was very proficient in ranged warfare, they were good at picking targets and getting clean shots. They weren't so good at hitting highly mobile targets like the warthogs, but they had larger power armor troops that tore them apart. After getting a look at the bastards again, I can see why the Meddies would want to rush in. They are smaller in stature than a human, larger than a grunt, and about a head taller than a Jackal. Their equipment suggest that they were rather advanced in the technology department, or at least compared to the Medies.
There was an incident after the battle, they called in an airstrike as well, but only after the battle had been won. They opened up on our line, we opened fire, and the Medies were quick to correct our mistake, one slugged me in the face. We fortunately made it away, but lost PFC Rellens. This brings me to another interesting point. While chaplains are not unusual in a military environment. I don't normally see them active in battle. Almost within seconds of the battle's end I see one with his ritual robes going around giving soldiers their last rites. We had to shoo him away from our men since some had their own religious preference. He seemed incredibly flustered and the man with the big hat stormed towards us brandishing his pistol. We had to almost tackle the man to calm him down...
Good news though, I heard they are airlifting help to us.

Corporal Darvis, Omnissiah, 89th.. is this working? Hello?

Unscies are braver than I thought. They flat out refused the Emperor's benediction and pissed the Commissar Off! He strolls up to them, aims his pistol, and within seconds three men are on him holding him back. I almost joined in to get a good kick in. I have wanted to slug that pretentious Aristocrat so badly. Though I am a little worried that they are even refusing the luxury of a safe passage to the side of the Emperor in Holy Terra. It's not every day that we have a priest in our ranks.... Well not much has been happening since the battle ended. The Unscies started to work on their vehicles and did routine equipment checks. Still strikes me as odd that they don't wait for a tech priest, I mean I had to work on the Chimera before but it was minor stuff. Well we did the same, Freida built up a fire and we tossed our charge packs in to juice them up. This made a couple Unscies stop dead in their tracks like they saw into the eye. They started to back away slowly when re slapped them back in our lasrifles. Only one of them stood by us, I Think the soldiers name was Holdenborouh, it was on his, may have been a woman, pauldron along with an Alpha and a cross.
I'm going to try and get close enough to see whats going on. I hope I can capture the Unscie speaking, its hilarious, The Lieutenant Colonel is speakin to them now. 'ok getting quiet.'
"What do you mean? Your soldiers wish to escort us to your vessle, Correct?"
"Agreed as it were. Mother Erin, Head leader Hethland want look you." * a suppressed snicker from Darvis*
"Why does your.... Matriarch... wish to see us? why can't she meet us here?"
"Of boat girl stays to be with. Head leader Hethland....uuuh.... duty position priority."

Oh theres more Unscie valkeries coming this way.... Hrmm looks like stormtroopers being let off. Holy, Oi Frieda, look at the size of those guys, Those must be their stormtroopers with that kind of power armor.

2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

Still waiting in ambush valley, though they weren't kidding when they said they would be bringing in support. I can't really believe it, but they sent us a Spartan team! I guess it makes sense, unknown enemy, stranded outside of reach for support. Why not send them, but I never thought I'd actually see them. The Pelican landed and it looks like they might be ferrying the Meddie leaders to The Coming Day. I have to admit I would like to get out of this hole and back into the warm and dry ship.... I'm still kinda awestruck over the Spartans. I can't wait to see the Meddies reaction to them. I bet they have nothing in their military arsenal thats even remotely close. Genetically engineered and trained super soldiers with the most advanced human portable technology the UNSC has to offer? Hell some of them have been fighting since before the Covenant war! I strongly doubt they have something similar. Oh wow on of them has one of those lasers. Ha that thing'll put their rifles to shame.
man I am giddy like a little girl.... did I just say that aloud?
... ... It looks like their conference is ending and the captain is coming back to us now. I wonder what he has to say. Captain!
"Damnit don't all of you stand up, what if there's a sniper around? Ugh, well good news and bad news. Good news, the Um Imperials have agreed to speak with senior leadership on board The Coming Day, Bad news, all of your are coming along as a security detail. Get your gear and pile into the Pelican."
    You mean the whole platoon?
"No, just first squad Corproal Darvis... Can we fit both security details into one Pelican?"

"Hey uh, Darvis, I think your vox recorder is on..."
Is it? I didn't enact the rites of activation.. Oh look at that damn thing is on. Thanks Frieda.
    "Welcome dearie."
May as well just record whats going on. * Scuffling sound as Darvis picks up his helmet and puts it on his head.* The Robot queen and the Major seemed to have ended their conversation and are deliberating amongst themselves. Looks like the Unscies are very happy to see their stormtroopers arrive, though I count about three. Given their past combat prowess they might need more than that to deal with, not like they are Astartes or something... Though they all pop up and render courtesies when the Stormtroopers walk past. I like to show proper respect to the Kasrkins when I can, but I'm not about to treat them like a bloody officer, that would be a downgrade in respect.
Unscies tried to mingle with us and get a good read on our forces, or at least what I felt they were doing. They don't seem so different really. Jarel Popped out an Iho and an Unscie knew what it was immediately and brought out his lighter to light it. Then they handed us a pack of their Ihos. We traded back for a while, they have some decent sticks. Not bad for a backwoods nation. We tried talking with them, but that broke down pretty quickly. They were kinda flirtatious with some of the girls but Captain Doyles interruption ended anything that could have happened. He mentioned something about taking on the mission to escort Colonel Cog Girl into the Unscie ship. Or as I like to call it, a Glory hogging suicide mission. We are grabbing only our Lasrifles our gear and our socks... I am not looking forward to going into that damn ship. It looks so.... defenseless, hardly any visible guns on it at all. Bad place to be if a Tau ship shows up, or if the Unscies turn on us. Oh well Gathering my gear

*Corporal Darvis is whispering to himself*
I know I am breaking like 70 regulations doing this, but its too worth it. The leader of the Medies is about to meet with Captain Hethland, and Erin. I'm going to be on the bridge at the time of this. I have the recorder on a head of time, but the meeting will be in a bout a few minutes. I'm going to leave this on. Things were a bit uncomfortable on the flight back, reminded me of first contact. The Leader seemed calm and reserved, but the big hatted well dressed officer wasn't happy at all, and that made the soldiers nervous... They kinda prattled to themselves a bit on the flight in, and when they got on board The Coming Day. OK getting near the bridge now...
"Captain Doyle, I hope this goes well."
" Me too uh Captain Hethland."
    "Bring them in."
    * The sound of footsteps as the Soldiers boots impact the metal surface of the floor. Multiple sets of boots are heard and they stop one by one.*
Thats a bit organized and ceremonial...Ok here comes the Robot one. and the others. And the soldiers went to attention.
"Iam Captiuas Kanta Kaila Imperito Cadia OctenNuence"
She just did a salute thing, and the captain returned it.
"Analyzing... Captain, I believe that I can translate the rudiments of their language. It appears to be an amalgamation of well.. All of earths languages with high Latin basing. I could probably use on board devices to translate in real time, for both parties of course."
"Thank you Erin, please do... Hello I am Captain Lucas Hethland of the Colonial ship The Coming Day. Thank you for meeting with me. Unfortunately I did not catch your greeting."
She looks completely shocked, as do all of the meddies, almost scared, I'm not liking this. Going to try and keep recording.

    i enjoyde it.

minor nitpic. the UN corporal should not have assumed the Imps would be terribly impressed by genemodded spartans or spartan lasers, since the Imps showed the signs of far , far better laser tech with viable infantry versions in enough supply to outfit the rank and file, and the Cyborg that just spoke to them ought to hint to some very serious Cyborg kill machines approaching, rivalling or surpassing spartans.
also as far as i know it from the ceaseles power gaming fluff fanatics , the only way to make the most happy would have spartan IIs somewhere between a scout marine and a tactical one, S IIIs somewhere between high end storm troopers and scouts or equalling scouts and ODSTs in between mid level interpretation stormies and very very well equipped veterans, on a personal level.

nut that is my interpretation of the old but hurt troll threads.

This is kinda odd I hear the Meddie garble over the Captains voice.
"As you can tell we are Translating this conversation in real time. It may-"
"What is this heresy! What kind of blasphemous sorcery are you subjecting us to?" * a loud foot stomp into the floor*
Pointy hat is pissed... The Robot Girl is whispering something to him and its calming him Down.
"Its not Sorcery, Erin has been monitoring your Language since you first came aboard my ship. We are simply making what amounts to a scientific guess as to the translation. I apologize if anything is mistranslated."
"I apologize for the outburst of my Commissar, but I must ask, How exactly are you translating this conversation. I do not recall the Adeptus Mechanicus having logic engines powerful enough on this Planet."
Captain looks confused, hes turning to Erin's dais
    "Adeptus Mechanicus, Logic engines?"
"I'm sorry sir I am sure I didn't mistranslate that last part, or the part before that."

Not al IG colonels and commissars ar privy to all the tech-heresies. actually only the AdMech are privy to what tech-heresy exactly entail and only they can call them in, and do punitive action against them, or order someone to do punitive action against them.

tl;dr only a overly informed above their pay grade, PC level IG officer and Commissar would know of these things and would have to suffer from some heavy deal of fanaticism (even for the imperium) or suffer form idiot ball/plot induced mental issues to draw a gun to a captain/commander on their own ship.

    Audio Log of Corporal Darvis.
2-3 Baker 17th PEF, On board the UNSC The Coming Day

This is the Official After action report from Corporal James K Darvis on Bard the Colonial Ship The Coming Day.
At approximately 1545Z On Separation date +4 We had bored the Pelican with the Forces of the "Imperium of Man" Their contingent consisted of eight men, One Officer a, by our military standard, Lieutenant Colonel Kanta Kaila, and a Morale Officer Yurin Petronemus. The actions of the IOM forces did not seem uncharacteristic for soldiers who had just survived an ambush, and taken considerable losses. They were made more nervous by being in a foreign military craft taking them to what appeared to them as an Alien ship. As Marine who engaged in boarding mission on a covenant vessel I can verify their actions were not suspicious for this event and did not indicate a plan for assassination of Captain Lucas R Hethland.
By 1602Z The briefing has begun in the bridge. I had noticed the Morale Officer growing more aggressive the longer the briefing lasted. Upon noticing the man reaching for his weapon I disengaged the safety on my rifle. Unsure if he was going to draw a weapon I did not raise my weapon against him in fear of causing an incident. When I saw the officer draw his weapon I immediately notified the bridge of his actions and readied my weapon, firing two rounds, one into his abdomen and one in his sternum. The hostile was neutralized and any attempt on Captain Lucas R Hethland was thwarted.
Separation date +5 We learned from the LT Col. The name of the military entity their forces belonged to and a small cultural briefing given to us by Captain Robert H Doyle. Had I known the cultural difference of the IOM forces I may have reported the incident in the field regarding the Moral Officers detainment over last rites of fallen soldiers.
I understand the consequences of my actions and stand ready to face any punitive measures pressed against me by the UCMJ and LOAC.

You never know. the armour equipment of a spartan is superior, and the main mods , cyber, bio and chem allow it to approach the level to fight a Space marine.

The only problem is the lack of heavy gear. it would need spartan lasers always to engage even Tactical marines.

There is also the nice issue that creating a space marine is cheaper then creating a spartan, since a spartan is as expansive as a fething Cruiser/ 40k escort.

Space marines are limited due to political and administrative issues, not because of cost, while spartans, while able to take down a space marine, using shields, stealth and the spartan laser combo are artificed wariors not able to be mass produced.

thus even if a spartan performs to the level of a space marine or above, the net value lost is far greater for the spartan side , since even if ti manage to achieve a exchange rate of a spacemarine squad for a spartan II, it would still be crippling.

Then again it is a very specific gear a spartan needs to take on astartes, and if they are caught flat footed, they need a lot of luck (cue 117 levels of plotshields) and a lot of ordnance to take on space marines, since small calibre rifles are not enough. perhaps the anti material rifles and missile launchers, but that is going to be a hard sell. against tactical marines. Once you go against devastator squads or termies, without a full squad of spartan laser toting maniacs opposing the other maniac side, its a complete cf bomb.

at any rate a 1to 1 exchange ratio is the most amicable solution, fan base and crossover story wise.

of course that is before bringing tropes and Main Character obvious bonuses.

I think the Imperial soldiers would be most concerned that the UNSC uses autoguns as marksman weapons, and cybernetic enhancement/prosthesis are fairly common in the Halo Universe, but genetically engineered or flash cloned replacements are generally favored.

Yeah. Especially as gene seed is hard to produce and power armor is so complex that there's a ton of compromises in its build - Like having one shoulder weaker than the other, because only one is expected to be facing the enemy.

Only on Mk.5 and Mk.6 Armour, which were developed during the Heresy, where, surprisingly, the Imperium's resources were stretched so thin that Rhinos, Land Raiders/Speeders and such were restricted to Astartes use only.

    >>17846478

Gonna disagree on the cost there, since the current model of SPARTAN, the 3's, are produced en masse at a fraction of the cost to the unproducable S2's.

A Space Marine takes about two, three decades to train in not only the ways of manly killing, but the control of all his improved organs. Spartan 3's take far less time, maybe five years at the most?

Admittedly, this is comparing the more common S3's to Space Marines, but S3's were on par with S2's in terms of enhancements, but not personal armour if they weren't lucky enough to be snapped up by ONI's myriad of special branches.

Ultimately, I do agree with the 1 to 1 ratio. The two groups are quite similiar, but the diffrences, when they appear, are pretty vast. Especially when it comes to length of 'creation', armament and favoured tactics.

I never disputed that. but creating spartans is even more expansive.

The space marine conversion and equipment process is already established. It now benefits from a ludicrous amount of cost amortization 10000 fucken years of cumulated cost amortization and economy of scale, while the spartan IIs and even the IIIs are barely out of beta tests, and their armours and armour related gear , plus almost everything Spartan program related is created piece by piece in a lab.

doing a price conversion on that, in some book or something spartan production costs were said to be equivalent of a Halcyon class cruiser.

Is a Space Marine as cost intensive as a 40k sized escort warship?

or even going for relative costs is a Space marine as cost intensive as the most cost intensive Battleships or battle barges?

you have to understand the issue at heart. the direct cost and relative cost of them.

yes as far as i observed in the buthurt threads of halo and 40k, i give the spartans a fair 1 to 1 exchange ratio , with mission specific gear only.

but that is a appalling rate for the UNSC side and totally unacceptable to loose something akin to Primarch and Custodes analogues to the enemies elites troop choice on a 1to 1 basis.

the Land raiders Space marine only is religious not economic.

They have warehouses of those vehicles, but they are the only one allowed to use them because the Emperor, in the siege of terra had to few Land raiders on hand and In order to increase efficiency had them to put under Space Marine Exclusive command. Put in some religious spin and only Space Marines are worthy to Ride Land Raiders FOR EVER!

rhinos are ubiquitous designs, and used by many actors and ceramite plating is used even by the IG, sometimes wholesale on regiments.

    >the Land raiders Space marine only is religious not economic.

They have warehouses of those vehicles, but they are the only one allowed to use them because the Emperor, in the siege of terra had to few Land raiders on hand and In order to increase efficiency had them to put under Space Marine Exclusive command. Put in some religious spin and only Space Marines are worthy to Ride Land Raiders FOR EVER!

incorrect. Land Raiders were widely used in the great crusade by all armed forces of the Imperium. Then, Heresy. Emperor decrees that the Land Raider, land Speeder and Rhino chassis are for the use of Astartes only, hence the adoption of the Chimera and Leman Russ on a widespread level because they were cheaper to build and maintain. For every Rhino ( which is a technological marvel thanks to it's self repair, adaptability and utter reliability ) the Imperium produces, it makes well over a hundred thousand Chimeras.

Exaggerations in the actual numbers are done for dramatic effect.

    >rhinos are ubiquitous designs, and used by many actors and ceramite plating is used even by the IG, sometimes wholesale on regiments.

Rhinos are that. Which is why they're solely used by specialist branches of Imperial authority (Read: Astartes, Arbites, Sisters Millitant, Inquisition ).

Guard regiments equipped with ceramite plating, since I'm assuming you mean heat resistant bodyarmour or tank coating( see, Zimmerit ) are the vast minority thanks to the enforced standardisation by the Departmento Munitorium.

    Part 2

    >The only thing the space marine have cost related is the servos and augmnatary exoskeleton of the power armour, spcialized auspexes, and the bio implants, which are cultivated on gene stock, thus are not more expensive than basic servitor parts, but are restricted in manufacture for Space marines only.

All of those are produced by the Space Marines themselves. They also heavily reuse older armour parts, thanks to the inherent backwards compatibility of Power Armour in 40k.

    >they could do space marine organs augmented servitors from fetus development but i dont want to even consider how many heresies that would entail

None, this is how gene seed is cultivated for fresh foundings. It's also extremely costly and time consuming, since the clone needs to be vatgrown to it's teens, then implanted with gene-seed, then vatgrown to the point that the geneseed is ready to be given to the fresh Chapter.

    >It would however provide the most cost-effective military personal units possible to the imperium or the AdMech to date.

Unlikely, since high technology ( plasma guns, complex cloning needed for geneseed cultivation, Titans, super heavies, star ships ) takes far too long for it to be cost effective. The Imperium adopts the cheaper lasgun, chimera, leman russ etc for a reason. Because they're cheaper and more reliable than higher technology.

    >but of course ground combat should be irrelevant when ou have teratons or gigatons of fire-power in spacecraft

Last I checked, the entire point of invading is to take and hold ground, not render it worthless.

Anyway, detracting from the point of the thread, so lets agree to disagree.

    >vast resources of the Imperium.

this. the Imperium is a galaxy wide political body ruling more then a million worlds. lots of them hive worlds that each have populations well into the trillions. Even if we lowball all the numbers to an absurd degree, estimating that the Imperium has exactly 1 million planets and that the average population on a planet is 500k we get a total population 500,000,000,000. a civilization close 100 times the size of the size of the UEG et al. even if the cost of a spartan and space marine are the same in real terms thats going to be far far far less of a comitment as a percentage of total production for the imperium.

    A few nitpicks:

Two-headed eagles are not bizarre. Even if they are, to describe foreign icons as such is more strange. Do you look at the Canadian flag and say, "What a bizarre looking leaf"?

Trenches in an open field are not Middle Ages at all, in any way.

Stubbers are not considered antiquated by the Imperium, they just aren't appropriate for the Imperial Guardl - and a Guardsman wouldn't have the history knowledge to make that judgement anyway.

Where are all the first contact procedures? You can't say the superiors in the Imperium and UNSC don't have/know them and will instead merrily blunder around.

The marine comment on the Tau being proficient in ranged warfare is weird. He doesn't have a bayonet, he doesn't need to say ranged.

Saying Astates vs Spartan combat would pan out 1:1 is stretching it a bit. Only 3 spartan weapons would be threatening to a tactical marine, and those would be spartan laser, rocket launcher and sniper rifle. Rocket launcher would only kill if hit directly, fragments wouldn't do much to power armor, so only useful in close ranges. Sniper may penetrate a space marine helmet, but may not go through the breast plate, and even then may not kill. Spartan laser would probably do the trick if it lands a head shot or center of mass shot, the charge up time would be a bitch though.
Since a bolter is like a rapid fire, 30 rd magazine brute shot, 3 or 4 hits would mess up a spartan. The other weapons even more so. In close combat, Space marines would dominate since Spartans don't really have specialized melee weapons, I don't see trying to smash an armored behemoth with an assault rifle work well.
This is only considering tactical marines, It only gets worse if we start looking at devastators, assault marines, terminators, chaplains, librarians, captains, etc.

I also think that choice of author is important here when comparing Spartan IIs and Astartes; As Nylund wrote them they would probably at least hold their ground for a bit in a 1-on-1 confrontation and in 2-on-1 would probably win due to their incredible teamwork and speed.

    I think you misunderstand.
I was making a dismissive gesture at the very idea because Samus is diametrically opposed to everything the Empirium stands for, and any situation involving her and that setting would make her just as much of 'the hunter' for humans as she is for space pirates. Samus already tends to blow up planets anyway so not even exterminatus could catch her off gaurd

I can see Samus working as a bounty hunter, where people don't question her crazy tech as long as she gets results.

She'd also probably work pretty well with the Tau, they're less concerned about using hyper-advanced alien tech as compared to the Imperium.

it is said in the books that it costs 3 destroyers to make 1 spartan. the reason behind it i because of the fact that the material they need to make the force multiplying underlayer of the suit needs to be made in 0G and super new so everything had to be made from scratch (see expensive investment/research). and the logistics of keeping them secret is super expensive.

Samus is, literally, a one-woman Exterminatus. She has - personally - destroyed three planets (Phaaze, Dark Aether, and SR388) and is indirectly responsible for the destruction of a fourth (Zebes; killing Mother Brain set off a dead-mans-trigger that caused the planet to explode). Her suit's (apparent) ability to create extra ammunition from the corpses of her defeated foes, and the ability to self-repair ("restoring energy") means that, as long as she has a reasonable measure of success in combat, she can basically fight for an eternity.

Samus is one of just a few people (the only other that comes to mind is Doomguy) that could come out of the eye of Terror alive.

Unless we're talking about the Other M Samus. She would lock up and freeze when seeing kroot, dark eldar, and probably most daemons.

I take that as her absorbing the life force of fallen enemies.

She can also integrate absolutely any kind of technology into her suit. Like that mining laser in MP3.
She just needs to get access to a Gellar Field generator. Wouldn't be the first time that she got equipment suited for defending her against warp-like influence (Dark/Light suit).

To do anything with Samus, we first need to define her abilities as closely as possible.

And if we take gameplay mechanics, that means, among other things:
    - Decoding almost anything
    - Remote hacking
    - Integrating almost every kind of technology (With Power Suit v2, v1 has limitations on that)
    - Shielding with upgrade capability, including possible Gellar Field upgrade
    - Option of multiple weapon systems with hyperspace storage of ammunition/creation of possibly limitless amounts of ammunition
    - Morph Ball
    - Explosive with extremely concentrated charges (missiles, bombs, power bombs)
    - At least five consecutive jumps (Let's ignore space jump)
    - An upgrade that makes jumps literally deadly against anything not on par with a boss
    etc.

In the end, it's best to have her as neutral mercenary force. Other than that, she'd be an extreme danger to the status quo of 40k, which would mean shitty fanwank.
40k fluff should be written in a way that the status quo is not affected - The reason for that is to keep in line with the size of the 40k universe. Even huge-ass destructions with multiple planets lost should feel like Tuesday, not like a significant event.
Samus coming and starting a one-woman crusade against a faction she doesn't like would turn into a significant event.

So yeah, keep her neutral, mostly just earning money for survival and helping out people here and there.

Imo it would make most sense if it started with her suddenly appearing on the battlefield, fighting her way out and then finding the IoM. After some diplomacy she gets pissed off and starts collecting information about the setting to see what can be done.
