    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17767638/

We appear to be a-ok for Wednesday Zerg Quest next week. Still waiting for my scheduling to make any sense.

We have made some progress in the war against Dyles, though our tactics have been hampered by rotten luck. The Protoss' first expeditionary force purged several worlds, but was nearly destroyed, sending Felanis back to their staging area in this Sector.

On the plus side, we also helped keep our Koprulu Sector Terrans from a horrible genetic bottleneck and possible extinction, and we managed to convince the UED Terrans not to break ties with us over inviting the Protoss into their space without asking.

Over Vernost III, the last nuclear missiles are reducing this once prosperous center of learning into irradiated waste. Over Olethros, our mosquito-like units are draining the planet of its vital resources. Salem Saberhagen suggests that we might not want to harvest the whole planet, lest the UED get cranky about it later.

    >>17822505

Fine, we'll take enough resources from the planet to recoup our losses thus far, with a little extra, then move on to Vernost III. Can we track Dyls's retreating units? Mayhap we can make up for our dismal failure by shoving a fleet right down his throat before he's ready
    >> Fruityling 02/05/12(Sun)21:07 No.17822594
Woo Zergquest! New Zergling here, just finished reading the full archives yesterday. Hot damn, CA's brood is nuts.

On the Vernost III issue, it could be argued that they wouldn't like it, but honestly the world is pretty much trash to them at this point anyway isn't it? Even with our Carrier's glassing ability I'm betting that there's still corrosive bio-horrors floating around in the atmosphere. I say we take our fill. We've got a swarm to build back up.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/05/12(Sun)21:08 No.17822609
    >>17822566
We have no way of tracking those forces, no.

(On the plus side, we still have a complete record of the worlds he's taken from the UED. Which reminds me: 1d100 for Big Stuff)

    I'll take the fear, please.

As for Olethros, take what we need to replenish our forces in UED space after our losses.
Then move on to Vernost III to suck up more resources.

Also, I propose we talk with the UED again. Tell them that we have developed a new bio-form weapon to be used against Dyles. The problem is that it will destroy a planet's usability, since it uses up all of the planet's minerals as part of its operation. Ask them if they expect any of these planets back, or if we can only target this new weapon on certain worlds.
Make them think we have a new super-weapon, when we don't, and when we say we deploy it, we can suck all the minerals from the planet.
What's the UED going to complain about? It's killing Dyles, isn't it?

So long as we're never caught in the lie, anyway. Which will happen eventually if we achieve our goal of strengthing our treaty with the UED, and start working together more directly. Or, for that matter, if they start watching us with cloaked ships. Maybe if we really did develope a super weapon first?

Something I want labrate to work on, if everyone's okay with it, a ship that is able to redirect multiple carrier beams into a single beam. I don't know why we'd want to blow up a planet, but I think we should be able to.
    >> Fruityling 02/05/12(Sun)21:35 No.17823004
    >>17822969

If we do this and it works, I suggest we do a proper field test on that heavily defended world we found Dyles occupying a few threads back.

That'd more likely just blow a hole through a planet, which, while awesome, wouldn't be AS awesome as blowing the planet up.

I suppose if you got enough carriers firing, you could just disintegrate the entire planet...We definitely don't have enough carriers for that.

The embassy will be fine. If he can't answer, he should be able to kick the question upstairs to someone who can.

In the meantime, I think we should evacuate the Lutrious system and everything nearby. Dyles knows or at least strongly suspects we have a presence there and will probably make that area his first target when he decides to attack us.

We don't even really need anything beyond a small staging area in UED space anyways, since we can just use heighliners to ferry our units around.

After a few minutes of what we think is some smooth negotiating, we finally work Melville down from a towering rage to more of a simmering fury. He concedes that we can mine some resources in order to replenish our ranks, but we are absolutely not to establish colonies, drain all of a planet's resources, or destroy planets outright. He says that last part in a nervous break from his anger.

Is there anything else we want to discuss with him?

It seems unlikely we'll get much more from him right now. I say we talk again after we have some decent results to show. If he's still a prick then, though, we should probably think about exercising our previously unused walk-away power. At 38% infection and growing, they undeniably NEED us- we just need to make that evident first.

I propose that we attack a cluster of worlds nearby an uninhabited system in UED space, if we can pull it off. The idea is to (hopefully) make Dyles believe we've changed our base of operations. That would buy us some time to either move away from Lutrious, or reinforce it, or whatever else.

Second. And sooner or later, we're going to have to start hitting multiple systems at once. Dyles has what, hundreds of stolen systems? We'll never finish if we have to go one at a time. Of course, that means we'll have to start a serious buildup of forces.

Zergleks alone aren't enough, though. We have a relatively small number of them and they aren't Daleks. Sure they're nasty and have neat abilities, but they're not invincible. They should be used as speartip units, leading the charge, opening holes in the lines, etc.

I'll change my vote to a ground invasion if that's what we're going to do.

Hmm. We should develop drop pods or mycetic spore analogues for rapid ground insertions. We could have some overlords or cloaked dropships go into low orbit, drop their pods and get the hell outta dodge. Meanwhile, we get a couple squads of i-gegs on the ground for infiltration and sabotage

(It's been so long since we've done ground combat that I've forgotten what i-geg is short for)

Making the decision, we put our forces on a course to attack. Unfortunately, Warbrate was right: more Dyles ships arrive in the system at about the same time our fleet does.

(Roll yourselves 2d100 to see how this part goes)

Gorn takes control of the space battle as Warbrate maneuvers Zergleks and cloaked overlords full of ground forces toward the target moon.

The battle is going relatively well. We have the upper hand, anyway. Dyles' forces are fighting ferociously, though. We notice a small ship coming up from the moon, little more than a transport.

We send a unit to disable the ship, and two of Dyles' ships break their line to intercept. Warbrate borrows another unit to try again, and again, Dyles' ships go out of their way to protect the ship. It sends a mutalisk toward the moon, and nothing happens.

Warbrate is convinced that whatever Dyles is protecting, it's aboard the transport.

Gorn seems completely alright with our plan to destroy an unarmed transport in the middle of a large space battle. After a few ships duck in front of the ship to protect it, Gorn's consciousness feels almost devilish as it increasingly concentrates fire on the ship. More and more of the enemy force sacrifices itself to protect the little ship, but it's not enough. The ship explodes, and a piercing female scream ripples psionically through space. Dyles's ships in the area go completely adrift, and we feel something akin to psionic feelers reaching out from them.

Gorn requests permission to destroy everything.

You've earned it, buddy, go nuts. Let Gorn finish the space battle, have Warbrate finish up the ground battle.

Gorn takes great joy in reducing as much of the incapacitated enemy forces to particulate matter as possible. It rips. It tears. It slices! It dices! It tenderizes!

As our zergleks descend to the ground and begin a ruthless extermination of all remaining life on the moons, Dyles' voice echoes through our thoughts:
