You attempt to establish radio contact with Fortran as Alessa continues to fiddle with the console. The thick concrete proves too much, however.

"Oi, Chief!" Alessa waved you over. Caramel had gotten lucky with one of the data slates and found one pertaining to these purifiers, though it did not seem to be about the same purifier they were fiddling with right now. "I can get this thing running but we still lack the chemical components needed to make it actually do anything."

Rodwen sighs deeply. "This is... absurd. I suggest we leave this infernal contraption alone. Clearly none of us have the skills to properly use it."

You nod once and return to the small, newly-discovered hallway. There is a door straight ahead and another one some ways down the hall to your right.

Before entering the next room, ask the girls if any of them has been trained for this combat environment or something similar, like boarding actions. If so, we could probably use some advice.

You enter the room to the north. This one is darker than the previous, some sort of film covering the emergency lights. You walk forward cautiously, the catwalk groaning under your feet in protest. It was another flood room but this one was vastly different. There was no black sludge at the bottom of the pit. In fact, you couldn't even see the bottom of the pit. All you could make out was the faint glimmer of... spikes? along the sides. You couldn't be sure.

The walls were also covered in the same film, though it was far thicker the lower it was.

There were four catwalks in front of you, each one smashed. Anyone who could not fly would not be able to cross without assistance.

You could make out the faint outline of several doors on the other side.

Great, it's a sarlac. I don't really want to check if that thing has tentacles or other appendages to snatch things out of the air that are trying to fly across it.

Let's see what's behind the door to the west.
    >> His Divine Wrath 02/03/12(Fri)21:33 No.17796023
After sharing a nervous glance with your companions, you backtrack, checking the room to the west.

It was a linking room between the two spillways and was fairly well lit. There were several insect daemons here. They ignored you.

The walls here were also slightly coated with the strange substance. You took a closer look. It seemed almost organic. Perhaps the hive was spreading.

A flash of movement caught your eye and you looked to your right. Nothing there... You would have dismissed it as your imagination, but Caramel was looking too.

"Esme... We cannot fight here..." Caramel glanced at you. "I do not wish to disturb these large, passive daemons. They may prove too difficult from an area with such low maneuverability for our ground-based companions."

    >>17796023
Ah, crap. Well, I guess since we're not looking to start a fight, we might as well just check the other door then to see if it presents a viable means of reaching the hive, and just weld the door shut on this one.

(Also, OP. Would you mind me setting up an IRC chatroom so that way we can have our questers talk and maybe downgrade the chance of them wandering away?)

    Hmm. That complicates things somewhat.

There's no chance of us soloing these bugs by ourselves, is there?

Also, I suppose we could just keep going forward and come back to this later.

Also, it's pretty easy to set up a chatroom. Do you want me to use the suptg irc network or something like mibbit?

Its not that you can't fight in that room. Its that, if you did indeed see something hostile, fighting may disturb the larger daemons.

Okay, ideas discussed in the chat:

Going back (either now, or once we've finished exploring the sewer systems) to get Fortran and the Eldar Bonesinger and anyone else who might have technical expertise.

Fortran can fiddle with the machinery, and the bonesinger can create a bridge over the pit of spikey death

Using psykic powers to ping whatever it is that's lurking the shadows and could piss off the passive deamons - caveat that the Goo and hives are psykically reactive

Having a deamonic member of the team cast enchant animals on the passive deamons
    >> Anonymous 02/03/12(Fri)22:32 No.17796633
    >>17796551
Well, we might as well just check whatever it is that's out there before proceeding, just to make sure if it poses any threat.

If nothing there, then I think Rodwen Alessa and Elizabeth should proceede forward while Caramel and Esme check out what's on the other side of the death pit

You look back at the group, hesitating before suggesting the split.

"You really think thats a good idea chief?" Alessa readjusted her melta. "We should probably grab the twins too if possible. They know their stuff."

Elizabeth grinned. "More sisters means we can keep the tunnels clear... who knows. Might have a nice barbeque. I, for one, would like to see more of that Living Saint's chainsword... Smiting down daemons with spinning blades and fire..."

Rodwen shot her an odd glance before meeting your gaze. "If you're sure... Be careful Mon-keigh. Remember, do not neglect your abilities."

The three of them turn and slowly go back the way they came. Caramel was standing there, fidgeting with her sword. "I am unworthy for this opportunity Exalted Martyr..."

You cut her off with a wave of your hand, carefully making your way into the next room.

A blast of steam and a putrid odor greeted you, making you take a step back and your eyes water. This room was filled with pipes and vents, all along the walls and some even in the middle of the room. Many had ruptured, leaking acrid steam into the room. Visibility was terrible but you think you could make out a door to the north and a river of sludge to the south.

You glanced down and noticed there was a fleshy growth covering the ground, extending from where you saw the door.

The other girl and our main char can fly, right? So they should probably investigate the two doors leading north and east beyond the pit.

There's probably something unpleasant to the north-west. So that door shouldn't be opened for the time being.

And always close the doors when leaving a room,, maybe anything potentially following the group isn't smart enough to open them.

Kill the growth. It's probably another chaos hive spawner.

Go get the other sisters and assorted xenos and coggirls afterwards, but be careful to move in small dispersed groups so as not to draw attention. Keep in constant radio check

It seems like you wish to go forward but im not entirely clear. You just split up so that the others could operate anything that you missed. Do you want to continue on or go back and open doors?.

Mind you, this is not a maze. Going through more locations means more resources though as well as bypassing obstacles that you may not want to try to tackle.

I am in the IRC chat still if you have questions.

The room to the north-west is something we might want to enter from two sides at the same time. Our non-flying allies from the south, and everybody who can get over the pit from the north. But that's for later, I guess. There are enough doors for us to explore that don't promise an immediate encounter with the enemy.

the doors dont necessarily lead to the same room. That and the pit in that room is probably a giant mouth with tentacles to snatch fliers out of the air. I think we should press on.

And i'm fairly certain that the room with the pit had the same fleshy stuff in it. Only a lot more of it

You and Caramel begin to move forward, a loud hiss suddenly emanating from your right. You feel a hand grab your arm and pull you back as Caramel yanks you to safety just as a massive tail cracked the ground where you had been only moments before.

A snake daemon rose up, its bioluminescent underbelly catching the steam around it, breaking apart its outline a bit.

"Exalted Martyr! Be cautious! We must strike with precision! Wasted effort could end in wasted life."

She fired up her jump pack and charged, hitting it with a blast from her sonic pistol, stunning it before following up with her sollex blade, shearing off some armor near its neck.
