02/03/12(Fri)18:18 No.17793461>>17793135 "Gimme the rundown," you decide. "Sounds like you've had some issues with Command?"
"Typical backassward military stuff, really," he nods. "Orders coming late, orders going to the wrong outpost, orders never going through, chain of command snafus. It's all pretty standard shit, it just tends to be harder-felt here. Get used to hearing about how important we are, 'cause it's what we cling to when the Air Cav starts boasting or the Shinobi unit starts strutting. Missed supply drops or miscommunication tend to hurt pretty bad. We're well-supplied now, though it wasn't always that way. A lotta unit commanders see us as the grunts to hold territory whenever they clear it. Or "clear" it, leaving a maverick insurgency presence for a week or three."
"Sounds like a specific event," you note.
"Heh. Yeah. Call me bitter, I guess. I made it out okay, but a couple others didn't. But now I'm just bringin' you down, so let's keep griping. Frog's pretty good, though if you hear 'shark tell it, he doesn't do anything." He grins. "Between you and me, Tigershark is allergic to paperwork. You know how before they went extinct, sharks had to keep swimmin' to breathe?" You nod. "That's Shark and avoiding his work. Most of it gets shunted off to Frog, me, or Em. Tigershark spends nine-tenths of his time out there blastin' mavs. Don't tell him I said so, though, guy can hold a grudge."
"Wilco," you say. "How about Frog?"
"How about Frog indeed," Sev replies. "He's been around the longest. Probably always will be. After Sigma, our previous commander, Pulse Potamus, defected. Hammer's supposedly the one who put him down and ended up rallying what was left of the unit. Provisional command became official not long after. All that's before my time, though," he admits. "I came in a few months before the second uprising. Anyway, he's held on ever since, the stubborn bastard. Does a pretty good job and he swings a mean sledge."
