We have finally murdered our way through back-to-back civil wars, and gotten back to the interspecies slaughter. Unfortunately, it hasn't started off very well. We attempted to bail the Protoss out of an ill-conceived attack on Olethros, one of Dyles' worlds. While we did cover the Protoss' retreat, the Protoss got a thrashing before we could get to them. And then we took hefty losses due to a compilation of unfortunate circumstances.

However, Warbrate thinks that if we turn our luck around a bit, we might be able to turn the tide of the battle and retake Olethros. Gorn agrees, but we don't know if that's a tactical stance, or just its normal thirst for blood.

We need to make a decision quick, though. Dyles isn't waiting.

(Scheduling: New job still unpredictable. Looks like Sunday the 5th and Thursday the 9th are the only nights I'll be free to play next week. Opinions?)

If we have any unoccupied forces nearby, we should use them in a flanking attack. Have our present forces start drawing Dyles away from the planet, then catch his units between both of our fleets.

Thursday works better for me, but I'll probably be able to make Sunday.

Also a new experiment to preform with our igegs, recreate what happened to jimmy. Nargil should be interested in it, and so am I. Check if jimmy has any memories from inside the tank, then recreated it with and igeg or ten. I want more super infested terrans.

Warbrate and Gorn execute a spontaneous and near-perfect shift in fleet posture, almost instantaneously pulling our ships into a less vulnerable formation. For a lesser species, this would be a display of organization that would impress military leaders. For us? It's just a good day.

Plowing through a weak spot in Dyles' lines, we pull our contingent in the system away, as if to flee. Dyles pursues, as planned. Also as planned, our second fleet jumps into the battle perpendicular to the line of retreat, spraying Dyles' ships with glave wurms. It's not as effective as we had hoped, but it damages or destroys enough enemy craft to force a retreat.

We've achieved victory in the air, but the planet below still teems with foreign life. How should we deal with it?

Let's glass it. There's no telling if Dyles has managed to make any underground lairs.

Also, remember that what eventually became the Dyles entity came from Zerg corpses that were sealed underground for a loooong time after being infected with the parasite. We could still potentially face a ton of resistance on the world even after we glass the surface.

How about something a little more tactful...
"With the way things are, Moria is not enough to keep you safe, and frankly, we like you all too much to let you die. So we have decieded to allow you to colonize some of our worlds in joint colonies, to preserve your future. Now the thing is, some of these colonies will not be safe, there are diseases, dangerous beasts, and though we will do our best to protect you, we may not always have the ability, or the time. Thus anyone who would like to go to these colonies, or just plain wants to be a little bit better, we have Gene therapy ready to go, to make your odds of survival better, to increase your strength as a people, and a number of other benefits.

This is all voluntary, so if you don't want to go, or dont want the therapy, you don't have to. As an alternative, we can incorporate you into the swarm, or just leave you as is, though as you saw with the hideous bastards that tried to rape this entire sector, that may not be the best decision."

Ok. I can live with that.

The response to the modification clinic is strong. While the message of genetic viability honestly went over a lot of people's heads, the possibility of tailor-making their children for attractiveness, strength, and alcohol tolerance is very popular. A startling number of patients ask whether we can make them regrow teeth. It's...an eye-opener, to say the least. Still, we do what we can, and if this continues, the Terrans will likely not have any trouble with their population bottlenecking in the near future.

The infestation clinic deals with substantially fewer patrons. They are mostly depressed or shell-shocked, deciding that they no longer have a reason to live (we provide counseling before letting any of these people begin infestation), though there are a relatively large number of Terrans who seem to believe that they can override our consciousness and gain control of the Swarm. We don't counsel those. They're freaking delicious.

All in all, as much of a success as we could have hoped for!

Vernost III was a highly-populated world, primarily known for its massive University of the Arts, a cultural center in the Directorate. Our files from the UED indicate that it was home to several million professional philosophers and billions of professional or aspiring artists (the file's author has inserted a dry aside that no effort was made to distinguish the two in recent censuses).

Our overlord notices ships of every type and description arriving, landing, and then leaving. Two freighters matching the type Dyles uses for terraforming are parked in orbit, apparently waiting for the rest of their group to arrive.

Aside from the many civilian ships, many military vessels are landing and leaving, as well. This may not be a centralized force, but there are plenty of enemies who can fire back.

Our forces allow the ships to gain ground as they flee. We can almost feel Dyles relaxing at his seemingly assured escape, and we feel wickedly entertained when our second force appears out of Warp, weapons blazing (or oozing, or...you know what I mean), engaging the forces from their flank. When a second military force of Dyles-controlled ships arrives out of Warp, trapping our forces in the middle, we feel like it's just unfair.

(Then, suddenly, Dyles' third reserve pops in behind ours! GASP!)

Our third force arrives on the scene just as the civilian ships jump away. Dyles' ships, clearly outmatched, react as one: they bunch up together, and one of their larger ships (a gunboat configuration we're not familiar with) barrels straight into our line at its thickest area. As it rams into a group of scourge, it jumps to Warp. The explosions stretch straight forward across half an AU, taking a substantial number of our units out instantly. Dyles' forces flee through the hole and jump to Warp as one.

Not our greatest battle, to be sure.

Meanwhile our nuclear missiles are raining on the planet, leaving irradiated slag where once a bright center of learning stood.
