    83 KB Fallout Commonwealth Anonymous 01/23/12(Mon)19:49 No.17649217
I'm running a Fallout game with GURPS for my group since we're all huge fans of the series and it's setting. We've been playing across a few of the already established areas from the game, from New Reno to Zion we've done it.
Now we want to something different, like a whole new coast different. I'm running our next campaign in the East Coast, specifically The Commonwealth. It's been explored a little in Fallout 3, but I'm looking for more info on the area and some feedback on my ideas. In the next post I'll write out what I have for factions/settlements so far. If /tg/ has any ideas feel free to drop them off here.
    >> Anonymous 01/23/12(Mon)19:57 No.17649305
There's a heavy presence of synthetic humanoids
therefore they should play a roll in the campaign. The commonwealth is advanced, maybe on par or more so than the Brotherhood pre- Broken Steel.
    >> Anonymous 01/23/12(Mon)20:09 No.17649424
    The Institute:
    >The technologically advanced remains of MIT, the Institute runs a monopoly on the trade of advanced technology in the Commonwealth. Specifically they dominate the Synthetic trade, and they remain the only group with the technology to make such creations. Synthetic labor is commonplace and many settlements rely on their Synthetics.

    The Railroad:
    >A band of terrorists, freedom fighters, or idiots depending on who asked. The Railroaders fight to free the Synthetics and what they lack in numbers and resources they make up for in mobility. They know the subways like the back of their hands and get from one point to another in almost know time.

    The Brotherhood of Steel:
    >The Brotherhood has recently begun sending men to take the Institute and seize their technology. Led by Arthur Maxson, descendant of the Brotherhood's founder they are confident in victory.

    The Minutemen:
    >The most famous band of mercs in the Bay State. Taking inspiration from the old revolutionaries, the Minutemen equip themselves lightly. A few bullets, a rifle and knife. They can be in fighting order within minutes and behind each Minuteman is years of experience.

More to come, sorry for the delay something came up.

    The Plantation:
    >No one is exactly sure what the pre-war purpose of Plymouth Plantation was but everyone knows about it's current inhabitants. They wear colorful garb, all tanned leathers and bright beads and feathers and they live in strange tents as well.

    Caravaneers:
    >It takes a special sort of crazy to travess the commonwealth carrying food and water for the raiders to just take. But the Caravaneers are more than just crazy, they're businessmen. Trading from The Plantation to New Salem, the Caravaneers never stop and always sell fair.

    New Salemites:
    >Vault 58 provided shelter from the bombs for the citizens of Salem, Massachusetts. It was however, designed to brainwash it's inhabitants with intense xenophobia and religious indoctrination. To cap it off, the Vault had a massive armory. Today, New Salem is said to be a paradise, so long as they don't brand you a witch. Neither the abominations known as ghouls or the blasphemers known as the Brotherhood can escape their justice if they venture in New Salemite land.

    Red Raiders:
    >The most feared band of raiders in the Commonwealth. Those they don't kill with their bats and improvised baseball explosives, they sell as slaves in the Fenway Fortress.

That's about all I had, and I look forward to hearing some of /tg/ ideas.

Sounds awesome OP, only suggestion that comes to my mind is to keep it away from the big happenings and major events, small-time average day in the wasteland is probably the most interesting part of the Fallout universe, how people deal with the random mutant popping up or where to get clean water etc.

    >They constantly try to one up their neighbors with bizarre games and sports, wars of politeness and intrigue at social gatherings and the occasional military action carried out by synthetics and slaves.
    >Most information comes from escaped slaves and the occasional business dealing, as the island is protected by several dozen "lighthouses" each capable of destroying any boats that approach.

    I have an orignalish idea...

    >Remnants of The Enclave
After the destruction of Raven Rock and Adam's Air Force Base, the remaining forces of the Enclave split up into singular groups. It is said that there have been sightings of soldiers clad in distinct power armor with a white E painted on the chest piece. These soldiers are considered extremely dangerous due to their uncanny precision with their laser rifles and unnatural calmness during battles. The E's have no apparent human leader, but it is theorized that they follow a backup copy of Eden. Of course this pure speculation, because no one has discovered their secret base and any soldier captured consumes a suicide pill, denying their captures a chance to interrogate them.

    Is that okay?

    The "Academy"
    >The source of the Commonwealth's Super Mutant infestation. The Vault at Harvard provided shelter for all the intelligent scholars within, but little did they know of the sinister purpose the Vault concealed. One by one the college elite was turned into hulking brutes with no more intelligence than the masses they once looked down upon from their ivory towers.
    >Still, they are far more intelligent than your average mutie, having developed a full rank system.
    >The Professors lead the Academy and often stage "lectures" where they raid the wastes to capture new Students. Students become Graduates when they bring back enough new Students. Professors are chosen by the Dean himself, the Dean of course being the oldest and "wisest" of the Academy Mutants. The Dean is as large as the schoolastic ruin the Mutants inhabit.

A charismatic survivor of the Enclave has a back-up copy of Eden and is trying to infiltrate the Institute so s/he can have a synth built with Eden's winning personality. This survivor is trying to build up an army for a sort of second "American Revolution" against the mutants and the ghouls and the people who don't agree with his or her ideals.

The University of Pittsburgh has become a warzone between the various denominations of the Children of the Atom and the Apostles of the Holy Light. Each side fights to claim this holy place for their own while inside the mighty Cathedral the Pontifex of the Atom and the Archbishop of the Holy Light lead the Glowing Synod in tedious debates of minute doctrinal differences and proper priestly attire while their followers die outside the walls. Only one thing can stop the zealots in their microcosm of war, that thing being the occasional invasion by Brotherhood, Enclave and mercenary forces seeking out the knowledge and technology contained within the crumbling buildings.

Here's my take on the main conflict. Four factions, player is of course able to choose to beat them all down Yes Man style, though.

The Institute is on the verge of creating a mass transmission that will turn all synthetics back into mindless slaves and agents. The railroad, concerned with Synthetic rights and equality, want to prevent this from happening, but some more extreme groups oppose both the Railroad and the Institute.

A cell of rogue synths and AI's have banded together to create the Network (who would probably be the overarching antagonists) who believe that mankind's time is over, and its their time to rule. They, of course, are incredibly powerful, but few in number, so they manipulate lesser factions (Harvard mutants, Runners, Raiders) into raiding and weakening the Commonwealth's human population as a whole, and want to sabotage the transmission to create a collectivist society devoid of any individuality, human or machine.

Finally, Salem's Hunters are vehemently opposed to any technology, and like Caesar's Legion, want to destroy it all, synths, transmission, and common wealth, and set the world back to the good old days, thinking that the Apocalypse gave them the chance to change society, rather than repeat what they perceive to be the mistakes of the past.

Climax is trying to invade the Institute, fighting back the rest of the factions, and turning off the transmission. (Or if you're with the Institute, defending it from the invaders)eding with a fight against Network SUPER MECH (ala Liberty Prime)

    >>17650700
I love it, but just two small additions I think we should add:

The Enclave wants to replace the Institute's transmission signal with a signal that would awaken the latent Eden AI on Synthetics.

The Brotherhood of Steel wants to modify the signal so as to put the Synthetics under their control; and by extension gain control of the Institute.

    >>17650700
    >>17650847
Issue with this is it makes the Railroad too obvious Good Guys, since, with the exception of the Network, synth rights seem to be pretty legitimate. I suppose the Institute could always argue that free labor from unfeeling laborers would help humanity properly rebuild, and that until the signal goes up, the Network can never properly be destroyed, but that's about it.

better idea, make the Railroad puppets of the Network. Only by following their (optional, and hidden) questline do you separate the two, and lead to the Railroad being properly 'good', but doing so should significantly weaken them, like losing a good deal of their safehouses and command structure, or something.

No no no no. To make there be a moral dilema, just have the Railroad want to destroy The Institute completely. Yes they will end The Institute's reign over the synths, but they would also be destroying all the other marvelous tech that was being developes that had the potential to save the world.
