You are a little female jumping spider named Bibi who used to live inside a turned over can in a shed with your mate Dorpou and your sack of eggs. In the last session the shed was invaded by mindbogglingly massive creature, that killed your mother and most of her brood in it's rampage. You and Dorpou decided that the shed was no longer safe, and after quickly gathering your eight surviving siblings, some resources and your eggs, you started your exodus with your loyal pet centipede Isaac.

The outside word was alien, and the only seemingly safe place in sight was a hole in a tree, to which you started moving. On your way, you encountered a ladybug that was being assailed by a small group of ants. After rescuing him, he introduced himself as Andor the Aphid Eater, but he also made you know his many other names as well. He offered to fly you to your destination, as according to him, he was now honor-bound to aid you.

In the tree-hole, you encountered an old and apparently lonely spider, who agreed to let you live inside the hole, provided that you would share some food with him. After quickly building a rudimentary web nest for yourself and your now quite large family, you and your mate are resting near it, waiting for your eggs to hatch. Andor is also resting nearby, as carrying all of you and your stuff was quite laborious. The old spider is in his web. Your siblings and Isaac are inside the nest.
    What do you do?

    >How this works.
Suggest an action and then depending how feasible it is, the spider will act.

You are just an ordinary spider in moder day earth. You have no special powers, other than your intellect.

Making silk costs proteins, which you can restore by eating. Your mate has his own protein reserves. Making the nest costs you both 15 proteins, which leaves you both with 75.

You can upgrade your nest with silk.Your nest currently has the following improvements:
    >Small rudimentary web nest:
    - web-sacks containing 24 food, 10 units of wood, 3 chitin plates and your egg-sack.

You and Dorpou s improving your home. Dorpou builds a proper storage chamber while you lay some trip wires to warn you if some one enters the tree hole by climbing at least. It costs you 20 protein, and Dorpou 30, leaving you with 55 and Dorpou with 45.

You ask the old spider what he is called, and if he has any useful information on the surrounding area.

"I am Ranou of the Web Runner clan, though the contact between myself and my clan mates has been quite rare.
The are surrounding the tree has plenty of hunting opportunities, the abundance of flowers attracts many fliers to this area, the tall grass provides much cover for crawling prey and the pond nearby also attracts many other insects.
Know this however, this area is contested by the ant hordes. The flowers also attract bees, and bees attract wasps, who do not hesitate to exploit weaker creatures.

Stay low web-sister, all the hivers are dangerous, and loners like us are ill suited to fight their hordes."

So we could try to use silk-rope for pulleys and fasten the bird-corpse into a standing position at the entrance of our new home. Ater that we decorate him with leaves and such things to make it look as if it was still alive!

We would have an awesome scarecrow! If it works other insects would be to scared to come near our home!

Tell him to salvage wood from the old birds nest if he wants. You could teach him to build slingshots later, that would be fun and helpfull. Eventually you should teach all of them to operate slingshots. More Markspiders more kills.

But for now you have to check on your eggs, they may be hatching and be in need of theire mother. And you are their mother. Mother Bibi....how does that make you feel? :3

Instead of infanticide, you open up the web-sack.

Dorpou rolls one of the web sacks containing food to the nest, and then goes hunting.
Your siblings join you in aiding the spiderligns to hatch. They predigest the food bits for easier ingestion for the babies, and tend to them while you help them out of their eggs and lift them out of the egg-sack. Well we live in a tree and the old spider bro is a proper web-building spider unlike us. He could teach us how to build a prober web and we could lay some web-traps between the branches to catch flying bugs etc.

Apart from that we could ask Andor to work together with us more closely for mutual benefit. He can fly and carry us...which will greatly incerease the range in which we can hunt. We could spot potential pray from a higher up position on Andors back and when spotted we can dive in for an attack with our bolas or an slingshot in Andors back. With that tactic we should be able to secure much prey, much more then andor and we could hunt alone for ourselves. YAY FOR SYMBIOSIS!
    >> Anonymous 01/21/12(Sat)17:25 No.17622550
    >>17622524

On top of that, if Danger arises we are much more capable of fighting it off together....and when in need we could flee much better on his back. Even if a stray wasp spots us Andor could concentrate on flying and fleeing while we could fend off the attacker from his back, again with bolas or a slingshot.

When you get back to the nest you start building multiple slingshots. Luckily the bird's nest is made from sticks, so there is no shortage of materials. Making the slingshots costs you 10 protein, leaving you with 15.

Yeah, so we'd probably have to haul food in...

    This is useful if
    1) Hunting is scarce, but plants aren't
    2) or the outdoors is very dangerous, but we can get plants safely

Though you might be right that neither of those points actually holds. I say we keep them as an insurance policy for now, and keep them fed.

Worst-case we just use them to teach our brood how to hunt. They can practice pouncing.
    >> Anonymous 01/21/12(Sat)18:02 No.17623024
Right, we learn from the ants. We don't need to kill aphids to get food, aphids can be "molken" for nectar. We are using them as cattle and have to think of it for the long term too. If we can get them to reproduce.....we took the first step into civilisation. We learned herding wich will net is with a steady income of food in form of nectar and the occassional aphid. And that all without the risks of hunting.

On top of that we can go hunting too to even bost our food production more...and a huge food production is the basis for a big family...and will net us the freedom for more aspiring projects. Like gliders to get an airforce, war carriages to crush the ants if they get cocky and so on and so on.

You explain to Andor your multiple for the aphids.
"If you are going to raise them like the ants, you need some food for them. I don't see many plants here, well besides the tree itself. I could perhaps help you with this project, if I get my cut of the aphids of course. I could fetch some plant stuff for them to eat. That should be easier than always fighting with the ants.

We literally live in a tree. Carrying leaves and stuff into the aphid pen is way easier and safer then hunting.

And if our aphid-herding plans succeed, we can offer Andor a share of the easy to get food...which will bind him even more to us and give us the opporunitiy to use his awesome services even more. Like hunting partnership and LADYBOMBER services.

Keep it in an bowl or something like that, spit some of your predigest-vomit on it and let it do its work and after that I am very sure we can eat it. Forgot it was saturday so I missed the quest, but in terms of aphids, we could always use them as part of a way to keep Andor with us. We provide him with an aphid farm and he provides us with all the benefits that a ladybug can provide a spider empire. He could even collect the plants to feed them himself, especially considering he says he still wants to go out hunting. If Andor was ever wounded then we would be unable to keep him fed if not for an aphid pen.
