Yeah, except that they tried to rationalize the ideas involved and reconcile them with what they wanted 40k to be. They took it from a setting where it was grimdark and intentionally silly because they were laughing at themselves (bondage elves, magic green soccer hooligans, squats, the Imperium being treated about as seriously as how Monty Python treated the Spanish Inquisition) to all grimdark srs business all the time and the only silliness comes from the fans pointing out how retarded said all grimdark all the time is. The 40k fluff went from being a mutual joke to being the BUTT of jokes.
