In the Imperium of Mankind, what do children have for entertainment? Is there some sort of GI Joe Emperor show, all cheesy like? Or do they just do nondescript things?

As usual, it varies based on planetary culture, but according to CIAPHAS CAIN, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, there are Historical Dramas about Fighter Pilots and Hot Romance. Most entertainment is Propaganda and based on historical "facts".

I like to thing that little kid tend to play with stick and pretend to be guardsmen fighting heretics. And of course, nobody want to be the heretics.

Or that deep down the hive, children play soccer. Like in any current ghetto.
    >> Anonymous 01/03/12(Tue)16:07 No.17414427
    It depends.
There are all kinds of children on all kinds of worlds.
The brats of the super-rich will be showered in toys of all kinds. Probably rather morbid stuff, too.
On the other hand, the children of the lowest will possibly play with dirt and rags.
And I'm sure there are no children that would be allowed to tap into a planet-wide network to exchange their debauched thoughts.

I doubt the poor miserable children of the Imperium have equal or better entertainment than the ones Tau offer.

Thomas is a Warhound Titan who works on the Forgeworld Sodor. He’s a cheeky little titan with two long legs, a short stumpy head, a shot stumpy Vulcan Mega-bolter, and a short stumpy Plasma Blastgun.

He is a fussy little titan too, always purging the heretics for the Imperium of Man to spread the word of the Emperor. He destroys their heavy tanks with his weapons, and then clears away the wreckage so the armies of the Imperium are unobstructed.

Thomas thinks that no-one else fights as hard as he does. He loves playing tricks on them, including Gordon, the biggest and proudest Imperator titan of them all. Thomas likes roaring rudely at him.

“Wake up, lazyservos! Why don’t you fight hard like me!”

One day, after destroying a Banelord Titan, Gordon had arrived back at the Forge very tired. He was just going to sleep, ready for repair, when Thomas came up in his cheeky way.

“Wake up, lazyservos! Do some fighting for a change! You can’t catch me!”

And off he ran, laughing. Instead of going back to sleep, Gordon thought how he could get back at Thomas.

One day, Thomas wouldn’t wake up! His Princeps could not make him start. His power core wouldn’t activate and there was not enough oil for the Techpriest’s rituals.

It was nearly time to march out. The Imperial Guard was waiting, but the Legio Princeps wasn’t ready. They were waiting for Thomas.

At last, Thomas started. “Oh dear, oh dear,” he yawned as he strode out.

He fussed into formation, where Gordon was waiting.

    “Hurry up, you,” said Gordon.

    “Hurry yourself,” replied Thomas.

    Gordon began making his plan.

“Yes,” he said, “I will,” and before the entire army was in formation, he strode to the head of his formation so quickly he almost banged into another titan.

“Power up your weapons, please,” he said.

Thomas usually moved ahead of the Titan legion to scout for traps and Titan-killers, but he was always given a signal first. This time, Gordon started so quickly they forgot to signal Thomas. Gordon’s chance had come.

“Come on, come on,” he boomed to the other Titans as they smote the forces of Chaos.

The Titans went faster and faster, and Thomas was lost in a forest of legs. He wanted to stop, but he’d get trodden on! “Stop! Stop!”

    “For the Emperor,” laughed Gordon.

“You won’t get away,” sang the other Titans – it was a battle hymn, but Thomas thought they were taunting him.

Poor Thomas was running faster than he’d ever ran before. He was tired and his legs hurt him, but he had to go on.

“I shall never be the same again,” he thought sadly, “My joints will be quite worn out!”

At last, they stopped behind a range of tall hills. Thomas escaped from the gaggle of Reavers, and he felt very silly and exhausted. Next, he briefly scanned the top of the range, thinking of everyone laughing at him, and then he moved out of the way.

“Well, little Thomas,” chuckled Gordon, “now you know what fighting means, don’t you?”

Thomas couldn’t answer – he had no more breath. He just walked slowly away to rest, and have a long repair session.

He went back to the Imperial encampment very slowly, and was careful afterwards never to be cheeky to Gordon again.

The notion of playtime is universal, each planet would have its own games for children.

In the more militant ones, plushies of the Emperor or Space Marine action figures would be given out, with parents leading them for Sundays 'Burn A Heretic'. On special occasions, they would go to a fair, enjoying the games offered there, such as 'Shoot the Xeno' and 'Punch the Mutant' or watching the puppet show recreating The Horus Heresy and other tales of valor. Very lucky children could even hitch a ride on a Leman Russ! In war-torn planets, the regiments pick up orphans and adopt them as regimental mascots who excel at spying the enemy with their small size and nimble feet. Even abhumans feel pity for the children, Ratlings making special sweets for them and Ogryns taking them on piggy-back.

Such is the life of a child in the Imperium. Be good children and the Emperor will protect!

You Mon-Keighs don't know about My Little Tau, it's a live-action holoshow that features very talented actresses who joined us during the latest cultural exchange with the Tau empire.
Every Trueborn kid watches it, and many grown-ups too. It's very well-done, very instructive while still being genuinely funny: it teaches humorously the consequences of the altruistic behavior our little hooved friends love to display.
Needless to say, it involves a good deal of surrealism that required the best Haemonculi to work hard for very episode, if only to keep the actresses functional for the next one. You can now even buy merch of the show, like authentic tau mounts crafted to resemble the main characters.

By the way, my favorite is Blueberry Pie, always cheerful in adversity. Check this out, my slimy crook of a dad offered me a replica for my birthday.

Since the Ogdobekh dynasty conquered our world, it's the Necron crypteks who manage the programming. It's pretty exotic. Most of it is a bit too serious and gloomy, but they have very good cultural programs, about archeology, science and all that. And recently, they started airing those cartoons they call "animekh".

Currently, Mahou Shoujo Xeno Necron is a pretty big thing, it gets discussed a lot.

Not at all as good as the original "The Heretic with a mark of Slaanesh." less heretical though.

I'd use "The Inquisition" in place of any specific Ordos.

In Titanicus, on a "forge world" there's an artisan who makes Titan action figures.

    >Average Deathworld Child
Probably spends most of his time trying not to die, learning important survival things from his or her parents. While the mortality rate is very high, somehow, humans outbreed it. Not much time for fun.

    >Average Lower Hive Child
Probably has simple, handmedown toys from other children or plays games that don't require much external things. You could see the 40k equivalent of baseball, soccer, football, whatever. Every once in a while, probably gets to do something nice with the rest of the slum.

    >Average Noble World
Children are probably showered in toys or whatever they want. On top of that, they also probably spend a good chunk of their free time doing things considered high society, such as learning an instrument or riding whatever cavalry in that world ride.

I gotta imagine Forge World entertainiment for children will differ depending on what adult career the child is destined for.

Menials arn't going to be taught reading or writing, so no educational slates. They're going to be given things to get them used to assembling things, so metal block puzzles, Whack-a-bolt games, things like that.

Future Skitarii are going to get things like action figures of titans and skitarii, toy hellguns, and hypatist costumes.

Tech-Priests in training get no entertainment, they're destined for greater things. They get dataslates to read, get taught how to maintain machines, and shown how to derive pleasure from the act of worshiping the Machine God.

    Guys, you're forgetting some classics.

That war-film about the Cadian invasions? "All Quiet on the Western Fringe"
    And "Passion of the Primarch"

"This Heretic thinks he can outrun the Arbites finest. He takes a hard right into a residential district. The Arbites open fire anyway since any bystander who is hit is also clearly a heretic"

Nah, you're phrasing it as if the Arbites could make a mistake.

Obviously the Arbites' weapons have been blessed to only hit Heretics. So they can open fire secure in the knowledge that the Innocents will not be harmed.

technically speaking the Arbites shotguns do actually shoot homing slugs. The chances of hitting any bystanders are small.
