In this thread, storytime and times your GM has been a magnificent bastard.

During a recent arc in our latest game, my character has entered an area known as South Island; which is a large island south of the mainland the game takes place on; the game world is a sort of low level fantasy world based around spirits and humans in a Japanese setting.
Now, due to events in the background of the game, South Isle is definitely off limits after a hero of the Empire led an army there, into an area at the very tip of the South Island known as White Forest; in an attempt to hunt down and slay a God, known as the White forest Kami.
Naturally slaying Gods isn't as easy as it sounds, particularly when they're on their home turf, so this all went horribly wrong and White forest is now a haunted and damned place, filled with giant monstrous Spirit Wolves that eat people; the entire island has been turned into a huge swamp and the entire populace has been massacred by the wrath of the raging God monster.
Needless to say, its not a great tourist spot. No one goes there.

However the only reason the wrath of White forest hasn't spread even further is because there’s a nice big sea between the main body of the Empire and South Isle; however the White Forest Kami is the boss of one of the main BBEGs of the game as it is, which is a spirit of revenge that has travelled to the main land and has started causing chaos; only way to 'kill' it is to end the source of its power. The hate and the revenge.
So, my character, who is a bit of a humanitarian and has a mentality that can only be described as 'there’s a job, someone has to do it' travelled to South Isle to face the God and try to reason with it in, what is really an incredibly futile, attempt to stop the massacre of entire villages by this Spirit of revenge.
Basically, my character is going after the Boss of the BBEG that the GM intended to be part of the world background more than ever met. I decide, in game and because my character is the sort who would be willing to risk his life to save countless thousands from horrible Raven-themed death (The Revenge spirit taking the form of a giant raven beast); to go face off against a living, breathing god, in a low-tier game where our characters are very human and very squishy.
Think of it as a 5th level Paladin in D&D going off to try and make peace talks with Orcus.

So, my character arrives at White Island and finds that there are still people there, some Natives survive by living in Princess-Mononoke-Iron-Town style Fortress towns and that the only people who go outside the walls are a local phenomenon called the 'Huntsmen', who are somewhere between spirit, man and wolf, and gain power by eating the (to most people poisonous) flesh of the man eating spirits, slowly turning into spirits themselves. I don't have a clue what the fuck they are, but they scare the hell out of my character.
The GM throws all sorts of new rules out to describe how bad this place is, luck rolls, endurance rolls and survival rolls each day as my supplies slowly dwindle to nothing, trudging through the swamps and fog of the dead island. He's having to create entire new rules between sessions just to mechanically describe how bad things are for me. And my character is hating every moment of it, but keeping going because he's made of stern enough stuff to keep going once he's gone to all this effort to get to the Island, which was an entire Arc in and of itself.

Now the game so far could best be described as 'Hunter the Vigil, in Feudal Japan', during my characters death march across this island the GM changes gear to full out Post-apocalyptic Grim dark; culminating in my first meeting with the Giant wolf-beasts of the island, which ends with me jumping off a waterfall to save my life; and waking up 4 days later having been found by a group of Huntsmen who are carrying me back to their Outpost since I'll either live, in which case they can find out what an outsider is doing on their island; or I die, in which case I'm rations for them.
Anyway, skipping ahead slightly I end up getting all the way to the closest town to White Forest still left standing, after spending 3 weeks in what can only be described as hell on earth, dealing with terrible conditions, monstrous spirits; xenophobic locals who still hate the empire for fucking them over and leaving them to die, and of course losing all my gear; and meet the Chief of the town.
Now the real problem with my plan is convincing both parties involved, the Empire/Locals still alive; and the Wrathful giant Wolf-God-Monster, to make peace.
Which I have an approximate chance of doing that lies somewhere between 'Get the fuck out of my Forest mortal' and 'Dog food' for the Kami; and 'No, you're a Ronin, you ain't got no respect' and 'Sorry, The Emperor has gone on holiday since there’s a civil war going on' for the Empire.
Yeah, this is going to go well. Still, that's how my character would roll and that's what needs to be done by someone.

As for the natives, who are slowly dying out since its 'men vs giant wolf beasts'; they hate the White forest Spirit so much that their Fortress towns are literally built on the corpses of their fallen friends and family, to firm up the swamp land and avoid their towns sinking; their capital city is entirely built out of the bones of dead spirits and the Huntsmen wield giant serrated edged cleavers which are solely useful in sawing away at giant monster spirits.
You have to be a very angry group of men to dedicate your entire culture to being a giant FUCK YOU.
They also hate the Empire; and as such I'm as welcome as genital herpes.
So, I finally meet the Chieftain of the entire country, the last remaining, human, leader of the Island; who is guarded by a bunch of big ass huntsmen, who the second they see me, all half draw their weapons.
The Chieftain asks me why I'm here; now, so far in game, I'd been lying my ass off to everyone I met about why I was there, because I told the truth in the first place I arrived at, and a 6'8 wolf-man with a sword the length and thickness of a mans leg, tried to pull my arm off. This time it was the chieftain of the entire island though, so, I decided to tell the truth.
All the Huntsmen draw their swords and the one behind me, a big 8 foot tall bastard who's more wolf than man, puts his hand on my shoulder; and my character practically shits himself. The Chieftain orders them to stop, there'll be time to execute me after I've had a chance to explain myself if I can't. But its obvious that he's not impressed with my shit either and so I quickly try to explain what my intentions are before he decides he needs to go wrestle a giant eagle, or punch out a horse or whatever it is chieftans in the South Isle do with their time.
So, I explain my intentions in full, how far I've come to do this, to face this creature and try to bring peace.

The Chieftain says they don't want peace, the entire South Isle culture is now pretty much dedicated to spitting in the eyes of God one last time then going out in a blaze of glory.
What followed was one of the best sessions I've ever been involved in.
We argue; back and forth; him giving me a chance to talk him over into releasing me, when they don't even have the resources to feed their own, rather than just execute me, which would be an extra meal for 5 people, 1 new set of clothing, a new fancy sword and some other bits and bobs and I arguing that he should let me go on, with his blessing
I argue back using all my tricks and anything I can think of, I use logic, charm, emotion, my arguments range from that their culture is dying and that only by making peace can they survive, to that humans and spirits will never be at peace unless someone makes the first concession, I make it clear that I can't understand their pain and that I'm not going to claim I can, even after having walked this broken land to get here; that the spirit knows that one day the Empire will return in full force and crush it; that it will have to listen, that their survival proves it can be defied, then on to the idea that I don't expect it to work, but I'm willing to die trying, that they're not risking anything by letting me go on and if theres even a small hope, isn't that worth trying. And if not, I might give it a few scars, or weaken it; I use literally every trick in the book, when I've been planning this argument for weeks, no, months OOC and IC.

He argues that his people are already broken and scattered, that no compromise can be made after this much death; that I'm just one man and I can't change the mind of a God; and a dozen other points, neatly taking apart every argument I have.
This took an entire game session, about 3-4 hours in real time, by the time I and my character gave up; ending with this empassioned speech from my character:
"The history of man and spirit is not written in words, but in fear and sorrow. The common coin of blood and bone, there is a voice, which whispers quietly with yearning in all, mortal, spirit, man, god; that whispers of peace.not revenge, or blood for blood. I have been a hunter and faced spirits; and stand with one foot in each world and know that. And if I didn't believe that there was even a slight chance I could change things; would I really bother coming here to die trying to do it?"
The GM asks me if my character really believes that; and I answer that, even though he is so cynical his piss is pure liquid Jaded, that he's seen enough of the world to realize that most spirits and most men want the same thing, a world they can live peacefully in and that he does believe that if it wern't for the fact there are spirits that eat human flesh, they could get on.
Sure its a little bit of a barrier, but he's seen a woman and a spirit fall in love; a flesh eater protect an entire town from Oni; and once challenged a monster twice his size to one to one combat, in an attempt to save a young child, who was a benign Yokai. He certainly wouldn't come this far if he didn't belive.

The Chieftan shakes his head and responds that he can't let me go on, because it'd bring down the Wolf on the heads of his people once again.
And out of character, something gives. I give up.
The GM made it clear from the start of this Arc, which I chose myself, that it would most likely fail and that, even if I rolled well enough to meet the White forest spirit; it would probably kill me and nothing would be the result of my effort.
This was as far as I would get, I realized.
So my character gave up; and just accepted that he couldn't do anything, that it'd be better to go home and make small changes, one at a time, than keep trying here to change the world.
At which point the conversation ended like this?
PC: And there is absolutely nothing I can say or do to convince you to let me continue on, is there?
    Chief: No.
My character goes to leave and out of game, I sigh slightly, knowing that I never really stood a chance from the start, dejected as hell.
Then he continues, “And that's why I'd like you to stay in town for a short while, and learn what you can from the people you meet; and then maybe try again to convince me next time that you are up to the challenge.”
And my character and every other NPC in the room just stared at him.

That limy bastard had set up the entire session as a test and I didn't click until he said that; the Chieftain wanted to see how dedicated I was, I'd never stood a chance of convincing him, but every little thing, from the blades being drawn to see if I could argue while scared, to the whole 'No, we will never give in, we will die in a blaze of glory' thing to see if I would try a different tactic or try to face it head on, to the fact that half his argument was pretty personally insulting to my character, to see if I could keep my cool and not pick a fight with someone who insulted me, right through to the death threats, was a test.
Just to see how I would do if I tried to talk down the Kami; he'd known from before I'd even arrived in the village, that an outsider was coming and he planned to face the White forest spirit and try to end the war.
And OOC to see how much my character was willing to persist in the face of an equally stubborn person.
And I fought hard enough to at least deserve a chance to change the game setting, OOC.
Needless to say, it was the most boss session ever.

Nah, it was a homebrew game and setting.
Basically the setting is 'Feudal Japan if all the mythology was real, with some twists'
For example the Emperor is advised by 3 Divine spirits, equal in power to Gods, Orochi, Jariya and Tsunade; respectivly his War General, his personal advisor and the economics Advisor.

My character is the Bastard son of a Samurai from Osaka; who joined a hunting unit, hunters in the game are sort of specialized bounty hunters who only go after Spirits; in the hope of protecting the innocent and living up to the name of a family he could never be part of.
Then he gave up on that when he realized that the world was a grizzly dark place when you're not part of the Social Ladder upper levels; and now this is sort of his attempt to do something legendary and prove that you don't have to be born a noble, to do noble things or have a noble heart.

Nah, its a game my group does online over MSN.
My character split off from the main group to do this, and so I just sort of hang around during main group turns and enjoy watching them and the NPCs interact and then after their turn is over, I get a catch up turn, which they usually leave and go to bed during since they've got Uni early most days.
Its a long term group game; I've just sort of ended up going Solo for a while; and since my character has had to walk across the entire length of the country; and we've had some drama recently that slowed the game down; its been months since he started off on his trip out of game.

    Alright.
For a basic set up, the character is a smuggler from the outer Rim, the Senator is from Couresant; the Sith are attempting to rig the vote by threatening the families of Senators; and in this case the Senator herself was kidnapped.
Now the character in question is pretty amoral, we've mostly had good missions so far, but that's because the Jedi are paying us as a sort of Black ops team, we've ran into this senator a few times, and she hates the smuggler because he's a dick.
A massive dick who flirted with her when she was pretending to be a traveller and who after finding out she was a rich, fancy senetor sort of stopped talking to her. Its not that she's interested its that apparently he thinks main body politics is Evil; all politicians are crooked as fuck; and that the only reason he helped her was because she was worth some cash.
Now, the Senetor got kidnapped by accident when they tried to kidnap her mother; this is the reason you don't use droids in clever schemes.
Now, the entire group was involved in another mission at the time, and what we didn't know is that our Jedi contact was AWOL, after getting kidnapped by the Sith as well in an attempt to track us down. We'd just landed planet side on a planet about 5 minutes jump from big-C when he gets a message. Everyone else was just getting off the ship as it arrives.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/11(Thu)17:30 No.17147223
    >>17147211

The GM hands him a note, he looks at it, looks around and says
"A message comes through on the comms, 'Don't wait up, do the mission, I'll pick you up later' and the ship ramp goes up and it takes off."
Our Jedi leader rages because he's had the Smuggler on a pretty tight leash after he found an entire massive stash of weapons he was sneaking into Nar Shadar past a Jedi Blockade using the Jedi work as cover.
Now we all go on to the main mission since we can't contact base; the Smuggler Jumps and arrives on Couresant after 5-10; and starts trackng down the Senetor, using his massive points in contacts and access to the Jedi's bank account.
Money talks in the crooks world. So he gets the address within 15 minutes of arriving, the vote, which is on Blockading another planet with an embargo, this time one the Sith wanted blockaded, was to take place in about an hour.
Senator was against it because there wasn't any proof that the crime the Embargo was related to had actually happened, but that's another story.
So, the smuggler flies his ship to one of the docks near the building in question.
Gm is expecting him to go in through the front door..
    >> Anonymous 12/08/11(Thu)17:35 No.17147259
    >>17147223

Now, heres an interesting fact; our ship used to be a mining ship, and still had a bit of equipment on it, which the smuggler used for cover and the occasional ad-lib mining operation when he was low on funds, including a small two person ship for going inside asteroids.
He climbs into that, and flies over to the building in question, counts up the number of floors, finds the right room, opens the window, puts a shaped charge on the wall and moves back.
Bam; the wall of the apartment opens up and he's out there, the three Sith agents inside are surprised when the entire wall explodes and one of them is shot with an Industral strength mining laser.
After a brief fire fight; the three small ones are dead; and their boss, a crooked Senator whos been a sort of BBEG with diplomatic immunity so far, comes out the side room, holding the Senator hostage with a blaster to the temple.
He looks up, and recognizes the guy as part of our group and is shocked.
    "What're you doing here?"
"I came for the Senator, put her down and you walk."
"You're not getting paid for this!"
"Nope. Put her down, or I shoot."
"You can't shoot, I'll kill her! And you'll never make it out the Quadrant!"
    "You forget one thing Senator."
    "What's that?!"
"You have an itty bitty blaster."
    And with that, he shoots.
The latch on grappling hook; which grabs the hostage Senators leg and knocks her out the way, then he reels her in.
"I got the fastest hand in the Quadrant you fat fuck; and a much bigger blaster."
And then he disintergrates the Senators arm; hauls up the Hostage and takes off.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/11(Thu)17:36 No.17147279
    >>17147259

The Police come after him within 5 minutes, they have an epic chase through the Industral district, before he escapes.
They get to the ship and he patches the Senators leg which was knocked bad by the mining strength grappling hook.
"Why did you come for me? For the Money?"
"No. This'll probably get me kicked off the Jedi missions for a while."
    "...why then?"
"What kind of scum leaves a crooked vote rigged?"
    "...oh..."
"...and I leave a dame he's flirted behind? Even if theres no chance of anything between us."

The Senator sends a message, putting in her vote and claiming there was an attempt on her life, but that message is going to be covered up we think; the Smuggler got as far as Warp space and the session ended, just as we completed our own mission.

And now our Jedi is raging because our Pilot has gone AWOL, we've been Black listed for the death of one Senator and the Kidnapping of another and we're most likely going to become the Star wars A-team for a few sessions.
Also, GM confirmed that the crooked Senator is alive, sadly.

I'm not sure if the GM planned it all along, or if he just wanted a ridiculous ending to our campaign. It was WoD: Sorcerer, and we were a mixed bag of characters - a pious professional wrestler, a good hearted street urchin, a former hitman with demonic ties, a psychopathic conman, and a mad scientist - all working for the same supernatural detective agency, so the gameplay was investigative in nature for the bulk of the campaign. A climax was reached when we witnessed the beginning of a fight between an insanely powerful templar, and a demon who had been one of our contacts through the campaign. We each had to decide who to assist, and due to the magical enemy from the ongoing battle we were empowered quite a bit.

The pious pro-wrestler appealed to the Christian God; the street urchin appealed to his own god (who didn't exist at this point); and the hitman, conman and mad scientist sided with the demon and so appealed to him. This set the stage for the final encounter which would shape the world forever.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/11(Thu)18:07 No.17147666
The street urchin managed to will his personal god into existence, and they assimilated one another - the street urchin was a now a god that was increasing in power. The professional wrestler received a great blessing from God, effectively becoming an angel. The conman pledged his soul to the demon, becoming a thrall in the process. The hitman assisted the demon in exchange for massive boosts to his magic. The mad scientist became a flame demon. This is when shit got real.

The wrestler swooped down to the BBEG demon, and flew with him 44m into the air. The flame demon shot a blast of fire at him, but missed and hit the BBEG instead. The BBEG responded by blasting the flame demon into the Earth's mantle. The hitman called his contacts to bring in an army of goons with helicopters and gattling guns. The thrall went for the templar, ripping his spine out. The god grew in power whilst all this went on. The wrestler summoned a minor rapture, piledriving the BBEG 44m and obliterating most of London in a holy earthquake that triggered volcanoes the world over. The thrall and flame demon escaped the blast as the BBEG was destroyed, and the hitman called some tungsten rods to bombard London from orbit before teleporting away. The god created a portal to deflect most of the rods back into orbit, and flooded London with high pressured water from the Atlantic. This is where the campaign ended.

In the next campaign, we learn that the flame demon is a Prince of Hell, the thrall is the leader of a cult, the hitman mind controls a large portion of Asia, the god has his own church, and the pro wrestler has become a living saint and wrestling legend. I don't know if the GM planned for all this OP nonsense, or if it was all made up in desperation to end the plotline. Either way, it was ridiculously fun for my first RPG campaign.

Not much of a story; but in our most recent game, based on a prision space ship; our group was recently part of a talent contest; and one of the characters managed to cause a riot by trolling the shit out of everyone.
Basic background for the character is that he's a trouble maker and kept in Solitary a good 90% of the time; on this occasion he was let out for good behaviour.
The reason he's so reviled is because he's always getting into trouble.
He's also, at least once, flirted with the female warden, because he's a fucking troll like that and knows he's a dead man walking, so he's going to fuck with as many people as he can before he reaches he execution, despite OOC us knowing he's innocent.
Interesting fact here, the solitary deck is seperated from the rest of the ship by the Guards deck; so no prisioners can get through to the solitary and cause trouble or shank anyone.
Now, interesting fact is that we're using the new World of Darkness system and this son of a bitch has 12 dice in Seduction and striking looks.
He is the prettiest bitch in our mixed gender prision ship. Andy Dufrane got nothing on him.
    Another reason he preffers solitary.
So this smart ass son of a bitch gets up on stage, with a big grin on his face and a microphone; and naturally we know theres going to be trouble.

He coughs, loosens his shirt slightly and runs a hand through his hair nervously, then nods to his back up man who's to the side on the music and says "This one's for the Warden, the female guard who brings me my lunch and all you lovely ladies in Cell Block C."

And the mother fucker starts singing this

Not even in game, he starts singing out of character, complete with music from his laptop.
And says "Yeah, I want to make a seduction check to try and cause a riot amongst the female prisioners as my character tears open his shirt and waggles a sexy eyebrow at the Warden."
GM asks him to roll Initiative to do it before the guard reacts
    And he rolls.
    And passes by one pass.
    Then rolls seduction.
    And gets 11 successes.
    And then gets Tasered.
Just as the sex starved prisioners who've been in deep space for 8 months rush the stage and the female guards go to drag him off, laughing all the way.
Because he's an asshole like that.

    Stylish Bastard.

Oh, other character moments from this campaign include the strip search of Bill the Shank, one character being caught with a beer still in his room made in the Top of the toilet; our characters joining the equivalent of the Yellow Canaries from Red Dwarf and going all Space Hulk; our brawler putting an Gaarg [Basically somewhere between an Ogryn and an Ogre] in the med bay after it tried to take his steak right off his plate at lunch; and a cybernetically enhanced guy who got extra rations for a week after bringing the ships Doctor back to life using an improvised syringe full of highly illegal drugs that helped him overcome anaphelectic shock.
Sure the Doctor spent the rest of clinic hours twitching in the Clinic bed, but fuck him, at least he's alive.

Well; turned out the homeless guy in our Dresden files game was a carried of one of the Swords of the Cross who'd lost his faith in God after losing his family, but had kept his abilities because just because you lost God for a while doesn't mean you're a bad person and he had an unshakeable selflessness even after his family were taken.

This was revealed when a very powerful gluttony demon posessed a soup Kitchen and the entire staff, to cause suffering; and he walked in and trounced it with the line "And homeless near a thousand tables I stood and near a thousand tables pined and wanted food."
Quite the reveal when we're 15 sessions in, and up until this point thought he was a pure mortal.

My fellows I just had the most epic turn of all time in a Freeform 40k RP. I was an Imperial Guardsman born and raised on on a Death World. Classified as a Death World becouse most of it was overwhealming ice and tundra, and what wasn't was over the past 20 years or so overrun with Tyranids.
    >> Guardsman 12/08/11(Thu)21:14 No.17149869
    >>17149742
Now, my character’s regiment was from said planet, we were trained here and hadn’t been moved off planet as the Nids where too dangerous to bother doing so. My character due to the stats he had was a Sergeant and had his own small squad. This world had a small green belt due to mild terraforming on its equator; the center of said terraforming effort was in the green belt, which was overrun with the Nids. Now over the decades, and without Space Marine aid, this world’s guard had pushed back the Nids. It wasn’t a full invasion force mind you, but they’re Nids, even a ‘small’ group is dangerous and is huge numbers. Anyway we were sent to reclaim said center of the terraforming effort, both due to its defenses and it would just be useful in general. On the road there we encountered an abandoned Guard base. Oh! FYI my group tends to focus on individual turns while we’re all off doing our own thing, so this was all me and some NPCs
    >> Guardsman 12/08/11(Thu)21:21 No.17149971
    >>17149869
Anyway, I and my men go into the base for a quick search for supplies and weapons. We activate the elevator no problem and go down to the armory. What do we find? The walls are practically made of biomass from the Nids and we hear strange noises coming from the main armory itself. We go to investigate when the steel doors go flying forward and kill two of my men. Another, armed with a Flamer, begins burning the bugs while the rest of us fire into it with our guns. We manage to finish them and find that a lot of them had died in the armory itself due to a radiation generator, DM made it up, my engineer NPC helper grabbed the generator and turned it off and we had to come to a decision. I could head up to the surface and continue, or head down to the power generator of the base and turn it on and use the underground trams. I decide to use the generator. Now to understand the rest you need to know, my group likes using random number rolls for events. If you roll above 50 good things happen, bellow bad, how bad or how good depending on the numbers themselves. Now to make this clear, with the exception of a 65 for the radiation generation I did not roll above a 10 or below an 82 this entire turn.
    >> Guardsman 12/08/11(Thu)21:30 No.17150089
Our engineer used the console on the generator and found something shocking. The underground portion of the base, with the trams and such, was a HUGE fucking Nid hive. Monstrous in size, bigger than any reports said the Nids had, it was their main base. So I made a quick decision and asked if there was a way to blow the place to hell and the Nids with it, according to the engineer? Yes, but we had to go down there ourselves and we would likely die. First turn, my first time playing a guardsman, I usually play Khorne Berserker, and I could die my first turn? Fuck it, it’s an epic moment and its fun, I go with it. So we rid the elevator down to the underground level. Place is just MADE of biomass. I order the guy with the flamer to start burning shit as we go on our way. It’s all well and good, and then suddenly a minor brood lord and a horde of the fuckers show up. We manage through sheer luck to burn the fuckers to the ground with a mix of a flamer, a rocket launcher, lasguns, and my characters personalized rifle. It only gets better from here kids.
    >> Guardsman 12/08/11(Thu)21:40 No.17150190
    >>17150089
We continue on the way and we run info an extremely wounded Carnifex, now mind you my DM is lenient with the fluff if it makes for a fun game and fits our random roll system for encounters so this is in no way possible in the fluff but it happened here. Anyway this fucked was hard to take down. Our engineer turns on the radiation generator to block the route we came from so reinforcements from that way are slowed down. Our lasgunners cover the engineer while me, the flamer guy, and the rocket launcher guy all take on this Carnifex and the horde he had with him. At this point my character prays to the Emperor himself for strength. He sees a brief flash of light and feels his body fill with power. At this point a rocket hits the Carnifex in the heart, practically killing it, and it lunges at me. My character in a moment of rage and pious faith tosses his gun to the ground and punches the thing as hard as possible screaming “I hate xeno! I hate Caves! And I am tired of your shit!”. At this point my character’s faith and the power filling him from the Emperor give him a massive STR boost and I rolled a natural 20 to its 3 and face just shatters and it goes flying backward into the cavern wall and just dies. At this point we need to RUN to our destination to blow the place to hell, and one of our men lost a leg in the fighting. I order the Flamer given to him so he can burn as many bugs as possible while we run.

So we finally get to the place where we can blow it all to hell, where the ammunition for big ass planetary guns are stored btw. The engineer starts getting it all set up while I and the remaining guys hold off the Nids. A natural 20 kills a genestealer right before it kills the old flamethrower guy who had found himself a chemical thrower. Eventually the Engineer is done setting things up and I’m given a choice, try to escape or try to defend the bomb. I let my soldiers choose, my DM rolls for their opinions. They order me to go back to the surface and send the flamethrower guy with me to keep me safe while they protect the bomb. So we go, leave on one of the trams. Along the way it’s revealed that due to rolls a fucking Eldar Farseer had taken an interest in my fate, and that the explosion did two big things. One, it woke up fucking Necrons on the planet, and it knocked one of the ork wahships off course and into the moon, but only one. My guy gets promoted by the governor into a lieutenant and heads home. End of turn one. It’s currently one of my friend’s turns. All of this due to insane random luck rolls.
