    Thats it /tg/.

My group has finally pissed me off beyond all hope.

I play a knight that actually tries to live up to his oaths, not harming those who surrender, respecting (to a degree) women and protecting the weak of both sexes. My group, especially the fucking elf, mostly play amoral bastards but are intelligent enough to do it behind my back.

Today they killed an inn keep and his family after he asked them to rent a room or leave.
As they were looting everything (including the old practice sword that was hung up on the wall) my knight returns from catching up with old friends in his home town to find his family dead.
Pic fucking related, the only thing I could think of as I listened to the DM describe what was left of the slaughter house I regarded as a home.

    >Today they killed an inn keep and his family after he asked them to rent a room or leave.

    XD SO RANDOM

If they don't see why their actions are idiotic, and the GM doesn't apply appropriate consequences, just leave the group.
    >> Anonymous 11/29/11(Tue)22:13 No.17060265
Now when you say 'knight' do you mean "The character class knight" or "the concept knight"?

Because this is going to be a 1v3 fight, and unless you get some powerful magic/allies, you'll be in a world of hurt.
    >> Anonymous 11/29/11(Tue)22:13 No.17060267
There is only one viable in-character option:

    BLOW UP THE MOON.

Or kick their asses and call the guards if you wanna be a pussy about it.

Kill the players (and possibly the DM) and leave the house, wearing the armor of your ancestors, wielding the blade of the righteous.
Then, and only then, will you have avenged that barkeep and his family.

This is by far the most appropriate use of this picture ever, especially if there is 3 of them.
    Here is what you do:
    Report them to the Law.
    Round up posse.
Pay a wizard with your gold to scry on them, giving him an item from the other party members to focus with.
    Ride them down.
    Break them.
Resist the urge to kill them.
Bring them in to watch them be tried and hanged according to the Law.

Now, OOC, I'm livid, IC, I am shocked. As fast as I fucking can my sword is drawn and I charge the closest of my supposed friends, a rogue.

Before I fucking knew it, they had all ganged up on me and had me tied down and did something viley dickish.

Out of some twisted sence of revenge, the rogue stabbed me in the eye with his dagger, not deep enough to kill but enough to fuck it up.

Then they pushed me into the river that split the town in two.

While I retreated a bit to sulk and the others mocked me, the DM passed me a note.

Apperantly I had washed up next to a mercenary company that were on a mission.

My goal is clear /tg/. Its time to become Big fucking Boss.

Either join up with the Merc Group and rise in their ranks until you can actually lead them (and thus send them out after your former party) or convince them that the coin the local lords would offer for their heads would be more then enough compensation for the risk involved.

Personally I'd go with the first idea, it's heavily reminiscent of John Marston levels of badass and would make for something out of an old Western (left for dead, lead new posse against old one.)

Just remember that in the end, if they beg for mercy show them to the chopping block or hangman's noose, and tell them that's better then the horrors you would be oh so tempted to commit upon their mortal forms.

Alright, first thing first, have a runner sent to the local authorities identifying the people who have broken the law.

Don't go yourself, let them think they've scared you off.

Now, try to think- where would your former compatriots go if they were in trouble? Who would they call in favors from? What are their allies?

Your morals are intact since you're looking to capture and see to it justice is served, not simply killing them in combat or going off to lynch them.

The whole, "I want to do this so bad" is just to show you're morally superior. While they succumb to their urges, you can refrain, even if they're incredibly powerful.

First guy I should tell you about is that fucking elf, an illusionist who I was convinced was my best friend in character. He was basiclly the guy who was keeping the metaphorical wool over my eyes by way of illusion, it wasn't that hard with the dice hating me when it came to perception tests. Thanks to all the Metal Gear SOlid OSTs I used to perk myself up, I think of him sort of like an Ocelot to my Naked Snake. Only much more competant.

The other is a female warlord who I had no quarrel with up to this point, she was just using the party as an excuse to collect extra funds as her men (highwaymen and general douchebags all) did whatever the hell they felt like.

If the DM permits it and you're willing, it might be extremely interesting to see where this goes if you let the party get stronger before you swoop in to capture them. Who knows, you may get a Lordly title for their capture if you let them rampage across the countryside long enough.

I believe it would be fitting to see them hang/executioner's block while you gain lordship over your childhood village/town.

The drood is the easiest one to take care of.
    Just kill all his pets.

The general idea for revenge is to find out what they want and do everything you can to deny it or spoil it for them.

OP, you don't just need a sweet revenge plot with that mercenary company, you need a sick inside hook to draw those scumbags out. But it has to be something that appeals to them.

Now, seeing as how you're an adventurer yourself, and the sole survivor of a certain unhappy family, you stand on what by the common man would be considered a considerable wealth. You at least stand to inherit the bloodstained inn and all of its accoutrements, a noble retirement for any mercenary.

And seeing as how you're in the company of mercenaries, who are generally not always noble and upright men themselves, chances are, you'll be able to find men of specific talents.

now, working your way up to boss mercenary of vindication is all well and good, but it doesn't grant your new friends a lot of reasons to do your bidding. depending on the level of your former friends, the mercenary company is either 'chaff' or 'mildly intimidating' as any group that has magic users is likely to beat up a bunch of goons that don't.

but remember what I said about men with talents.

Find a gifted forger in the mercenary company. Since many mercenaries don't come from honest backgrounds, it shouldn't be hard.

Have him draw up bounty posters.
But not of your former comrades, instruct them to illustrate the bounty heads to be officers in all the local authorities- town guard, random soldiers, Paladins of knightly orders- canvas every do-gooder with a lot of friends in a 100 mile radius, and start plastering these bogus bounty posters everywhere.

Now, given the impulsive nature of your former comrades, I find it very unlikely that they would do adequate research, and thinking that they had gotten away scott free, having neatly tied up all the loose ends, they might even be crazy enough to actually believe that they could redeem these bounties for reward.

And the best part is, if they actually succeed, then they will themselves incur the wrath of many military and paramilitary authorities, and have not only your mercenary company after them, but armies of justice-hungry law enforcers as well.

And here's the best part- over the course of this spree, they will naturally incur LEGITIMATE bounties of their own. Having a payday, your own mercenary friends will need little persuasion to hunt them down.

Then you get the satisfaction of not only bringing them to justice, but bringing the entire justice of all the local authorities on their heads, while enriching yourself in the process.

And in your moment of grand triumph, when they like bound in chains at your feet, you bring them the original bogus bounty posters and lay them down before them.

"I made you chase the Castellan of the Order of Pelor."
"I made you chase the Arch Lector of the Church of Heironymous"
"I made you chase the captain of the town guard, the officers of the watch, and a sergeant of the royal army."

"and then, I made you the most wanted criminals in the land, so that when I cashed in your heads, I could retire rich, and rebuild my father's inn on your graves."

Then OP, not only will there be justice, but they might be so destroyed and betrayed that they never play again, their brains forever smashed asunder by your mastery.

If you're going to go with the idea of trying to get a second game running where you play your rise to power of the merc group, might I suggest this:

Ask the DM if you can roll a new character for the original game. Make the character a spy from the merc party or someone else loyal to you, who can (in roleplay terms) report to your knight on the activities of the party.

This will give you in-game knowledge that you can use against your former party.

It does mean that you'll have to play 2 games though. And keep the second one a secret from your former party, so they don't use meta knowledge to cockblock you.

A bit of an unfair advantage, I know. But they killed your family, so fuck em.

Provided he complies, tell him he is free to go- And the key to his bindings has been fed to the raven. It's too large to pass naturally, of course. Undo the binding holding the ranger's right forearm and place a knife in his hand. Tell him the key is there if he is willing to get it, then leave. >> Anonymous 11/30/11(Wed)06:13 No.17063233
If the players think ur char is dead, you should create a new char to keep playing no? So, create a warrior, he's background; a mercenary bastard, he seems to be tuned with the party, but maybe he's an undercover from certain merc company...

I don't even play this game (yet) and I'm rooting for you Big Boss.

When you swoop in, have a bard/march-musician of the mecrcenaries perform this.

So, i'm pretty new to /tg/ and tabletop roleplaying altogether.
Is your group an IRC group?
Because i could help with this sidequest and learn how to DnD in process.

Pretty sure it's IRL, though I'm not OP. Was a part of the original thread though.

It's a quote from Skyrim, yeah. One of the lines of dialogue a town guard can mention about a group of Redguard soldiers who weild scimitars. The concept of curved swords (curved. swords) blows his tiny Nordic mind.

While I'd say this is the end for the Knight and his exploits if it's an IRL group (after all, he can't exactly just go LOL ACT LIKE I'M NOT HERE unless the other players are the kind that would actually enjoy seeing him survive, which they don't seem to be) I could actually see the DM possibly doing "solo" sessions the day after the group ones where he does his own adventures and levels up (whilst hearing about what the other party did through second hand accounts.)

Hell, the guy could do two characters at once by writing up a new one to further cement the idea that the character is "dead." Perhaps, as everyone's been suggesting, he makes a person who's a member of said merc group and would occasionally mention how some of the fresh blood's been performing quite well? It would keep the Knight in the game for the other party without them knowing it (which would help when they scream and stomp their feet once the veil is thrown off and it's revealed he's alive.)

Reminds me of the mage whose paladin accused him of necromancy and convinced the group to lock him in the dungeon for dead, who then plotted to become a lich and manipulate the paladin into falling.

What you need to do is try to become the leader of the entire country.
    No, the entire world.
Adventurers did this to your family, so its simple what you need to do.
Kill the idea of being an adventurer, create a world where such people arn't needed; a perfect world of law and order, where theres no place for wandering groups of sell swords, because the army, the guard, the guilds and the crown, protect the people, the law protects the people.
Become that law; and when you do, string the group up, for the murder of your family, legally and with everything above board.

Wait, bide your time, train and work and become the leader of the Mercinary band, slowly change the ethics of the company from amoral mercinaries to Guards and protectors for hire, wandering for justice, not for cash, Trade in your mortality, all of the mercinaries mortality, become immortal warrior armour of justice; then, go after them.
And remember to use this, when you find them
"When the injustice is great enough, justice will lend me the strength needed to correct it. None may stand against it. It will shatter every barrier, sunder any shield, tear through any enchantment, and lend its servant the power to pass sentence. Know this: There is nothing on all the Planes that can stay the hand of justice when it is brought against them. It may unmake armies. It may sunder the thrones of gods. Know that for all who betray justice, I am their fate. And fate carries an executioner's axe."

    Well gee, you're no fun.
