Whenever a Bag of Holding is put inside another, they both implode, losing themselves and everything inside them into the void forever. Other similar accidents have resulted in countless other sort of stuff, sometimes up to and including entire ships or Spelljammers or even a kingdom or two, to have been similarly cast drifting outside the material planes, which has over the millennia swollen into quite a pile of treasure. Due to hidden magical winds within the nothingness, all this debris, flotsam and jetsam, eventually ends up in the same place. A hidden pile of treasure, the biggest in the multiverse, ripe for picking for anyone that can get there first.

Getting in is easy: just get yourself two Bags of Holding, and climb inside one while having the other one with you. Now getting out, or surviving for that matter, is a different thing altogether.

Would this make for a viable adventure?

The problem is that PCs only double-bag when there's something REALLY nasty to get rid off, so you'll have all the loot from the 3rd level newbies who didn't attend classes for Knowledge (Magical Items), and all the monsters that the 15th level jackass rogues didn't want to face.

This thread is made of solid gold. I've already set all the kingdom's arcane tailors to creating a massive pair of bags of holding to place a planar ship into. Now to raise a crew worthy of such an adventure. Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime, Mr. Hawkins?

The worst part about this is due to the nature of this place there are no bags of holding. You have to carry all this loot the old fashioned way.

    Treasure planet.
Planet made of treasures, with several rings made of treasures going around it.

Looks like a bermuda triangle of ancient massive ships and constructions and treasures, but instead of water it's all hanging around in loose ball-like formation.

Mother of god. It isn't a giant pile of treasure, it's a whole new civilization (or at least, world) built upon the basis of lost treasure, creatures, and bits of land.

Liches (un)living along side adventurers making their last stand, Beholder shop keepers, and succubi bakers. A Vetinari-like (or Vetinari himself?) tyrant who sees that the Lost City does not tear itself apart, and makes sure that new arrivals don't upset the balance. Treasures from mundane to powerful beyond imagination in the hands of each and every person, literally as useless as the next simply because the power balance ends up even.

Of course, anyone setting out to claim the treasures of the void must realize that many types of realities lead to this same undestination. I think there would be lost of molding foodstuffs from low level adventurers who lost their starting load from bag carelessness. Finding fresh food would be more difficult and the possibility of sickness would be rampant. Surviving adventurers would possibly roam in small tribes whose size would be dependent on how many it takes to kill a beholder weighed against how many a beholder could feed. There would be many who've died from having to figure out the hard way which parts of which high-level monsters are safe for consumption.

A few points I'm wondering on though, if you have a bag of holding with you when you go into the second BoH, do you go to a 1st level dimension whereas if you go into the first BoH and then have that placed in the second BoH would you go to the 2nd level dimension? In other words do item only in bag A go to a different place than item in bag B which is in bag A.

Also, if a new bag of holding immediately implodes, unmaking itself, then would a new bag mads in 1st level space go to 2nd level space? I'm thinking go to level 1, make a tarp with a drawstring around its perimeter and when you're ready, stand on the tarp, pull the string with your hands over your head and it becomes a bag, teleporting you to the 2nd level of space (hopefully you did it right and won't leave your hands behind). Try it again on the 2nd level and you're just a guy in a normal bag? Maybe have two ways of escape; a different one for each level of space and be going further in you've made things that much harder to get out of? Just some ideas to add to the discussion.

You find yourselves in the farthest place of Bagworld after 4 years of being stuck here. You're currently standing on a huge golden disc, which you identify to be a massive shield. The shield is slowly moving and rotating, as if it was suspended in air. However, you do not feel any change in the gravity. There's 20 feet distance to the edge of the shield from where you are standing. After a while the legendary treasure planet comes to your view, with the pictures of hell and demons inhabiting it flashing trough your memory. What do you do?
    >Fuck, we don't want to be here anymore...
    >W-we pray for our gods and kill ourselves, it's the only way. Fuck this place.
After a flash, you are still standing on the same place. Only change is that you see your bodies floating away.
    >Wait what? No, nononono.....
"There are no gods here...." A small mocking whisper echoes from the golden forms of the shield and the macabre landscape of gold and riches floating around you in a silent horror of your fate.

The actualcauseof the implosion is the two subspaces within each bag being forced to open to eachother. It doesn't matter which subspace you are currently inhabiting as both will immediately partionthemselves off and be cast out of the multiverse.

Think of a bag of holding like a bubble resting on a bigger bubble. When two small bubbles come together they strain their own stability and burst into each other and are cast off of the surface of the bigger bubble. This tiny bubble will then fall to the bottom of the multiverse into what is known to the denizens of the world as the void. But to the denizens of the void, it is known as the Brink.

Assuming you have a 15 lb bag of holding, you can put 600 lbs of stuff in it and it will still only weight 15 lbs.

You can then take 40 of these completely stuffed, 15 lb bags of holding and put them into another bag of holding, since their combined weight is only 600 lbs. Then you can take 40 of your bags of bags of holding, and put them into a third layer, and so on and so forth.

Or you can rule that nesting bags of holdings collapses space and throws everything out in bagworld, which is much more fun.

Nothing, technically. But it only works on eight willing people at once, and is a fairly high level spell that not everybody can access. They also likely could not take all that much treasure with them, considering the lack of more BoHs.

But with that much treasure around, bags of holding should be pretty easy to craft.

I like the idea where additional bag of holding accidents go one level deeper into extradimensional limbo. The second level is mostly people that tried to get out of the first one by imploding bags of holding again, a couple seriously nasty things got imploded *again* after they get sent to the first level.

For the first maybe ten or so levels you get increasingly small settlements of failed escapees who thought they'd get out if they just went one level further, and increasingly terrifying monsters that can only be dealt with by imploding them.

Eventually you don't find escapees anymore, just creatures so horrible that even the horrible things on the previous level wanted to get rid of them.

    Hey, /tg/

When the sphere of Loslod first reached out to the rest of the Multiverse, its primary inhabitants, Dragons, were enthralled by the legend of a single point in space, of a "Treasure Planet."
This legend was one of the things that spurred the development of the Dragon class Spelljammer, one of the few ships that can house more than one fully grown dragon at a time in relative comfort.
It is the year 23 AS, and you are the 6th Spelljamming crew composed of dragons and kindred to set out into Space, to find this Treasure Planet, and become the most famous dragons to ever leave the Io's Blood Isles.

You'll probably never know what happened. Were you betrayed? Were you found out, and had this punishment inflicted upon you? Or was this just a clumsy accident involving a banana peal and an inconveniently placed portable hole?

The plan was simple, but had to be carried out in utmost secrecy, no one could know you were inside the city. You were given specially fitted bottles of air, to wear as masks and told to hide in a bag of holding while you were smuggled in on a paid-off merchant's cart.

Just as you felt you had been in there too long, and that something had gone wrong, everything around you shook, and you felt your body being broken down to its smallest pieces. You fall, coming to bathed in the glow of more magic weapons and armor than you have ever seen before, lying in a pool of your own vomit, on top of a pile of coins that would make any dragon feel inadequate.

    Expanding on that idea:
The 'Endboss's is not a mere humanoid or otherwise shaped creature.
    It's a Harvester.
Just like the world it dwells on, it conglomerates matter, only now it's living tissue to attach to itself, replacing rotting or damaged limbs.
It simply absorbs whatever it catches. It can grow by attaching stuff to itself. It can shrink by shedding parts. The entire outer hull is just rotting flesh. In its centre, the actual creature exists.

So there is now two versions of Bagworld.
Both have escher-esque physics with stuff just floating around but people can walk on all surfaces. There is no magical way out, gods don't hear you and all portals lead back to Bagworld.
#1. Bags inside bags creating new levels of Bagworld. Most used way to defend yourself from a big, giant horror is to implode it to deeper level. There might be a way out in some deeper level, but the deeper you get, the bigger the horrors get.

#2. Bagworld is treasure planet of gold, magic and horrors everywhere. The key for escaping this plane is located somewhere inside the Kings evening, a 5-dimensional tower in the center of the planet. The tower is inhibited by He Who Is, a twisted thing from the ends of time.

Another endboss idea to add, I guess:

The fiend is endlessly greedy, obviously, but not a simple greed for riches, but also power. Every item on the evergrowing planet will become part of him eventually, and when he escapes his prison he'll have power that would threaten even the gods of the multiverse. Banishing him deeper into the bagvoid is only a tempary fix at best, as he can more easily escape a layer of the bagvoid into the prime bagvoid than into the multiverse.

He is the first banished into the bagvoid, and has had a very long time to plot and experiment.

And now don't you dare telling me this hasn't been weaponized already!
On a sidenote, in the german RPG 'Das Schwarze Auge' (The dark eye), there's a spell that's called Auge des Limbus (Eye of the Limbus) which basically does what a bag of holding-folding does.

It opens a tiny hole for a short duration that sucks in everything around it. This leads to the 'Limbus' which is basically the nothingness described in this thread. The Limbus is infinite in size and (planar/dimensionally speaking) the thing that seperates the different spheres of existence.
Anything magic is like a beacon for demons that seek sources of magic. The entire place is very hostile and one should never go there (teleportation spells make you travel through this plane, though)

So yeah, I've got the luxury of playing a game system where you can send people to the bagverse without them using bags of holding.

Knights of the Dinner Table is doing a whole multi-year-long story arc devoted to this concept. It's been going since 2008 or so. I'll sum it up.

Turns out only some bags of holding, the smallest ones, are their own dimension. The really good ones actually access a microverse. You can travel between bags through this microverse, but it's hostile and agic doesn't work except in the areas directly beneath sky-portals to the macroverse outside. The players went on a looting spree, travelling from bag to bag through the microverse, looting everyone else's haul. Well, some other people caught on and did the same thing, leading to the BagWars where multiple adventuring parties, kingdoms, and villains raised armies and marched them into the BagLand to fight for the loot of the world. Then a magical disaster happened and all the existing bags got shuffled, the portals no longer opening into the area where they used to in bagland. Now, the portals can't be opened fro the inside, so that trapped everyone and ended the wars. Centuries later, the descendants of the original adventurers enter a bag to escape from certain doom, only to find a changed world (that doesn't respect them or their ancestors) waiting for them. Imagine a world shaped solely by stereotypical adventurer morals and attitudes, where magic is nigh-impossible and no gods hold power no matter how faithful their priests.

    Combining these two ideas:

The Tarrasque can regenerate from any tiniest shred of remaining flesh, right?

Now, I imagine there are probably quite a few adventurers through the ages who thought a good way to try to beat the Tarrasque would be to catch some vital organ (probably the brain) in the effect of one of these void arrows...

So you probably have a fair number of Tarrasque-flesh chunks floating around the bagvoid...

Or rather, HAD a fair number of Tarrasque chunks. You see, by now, they've all regenerated into full-grown Tarrasque clones...

So, we have essentially a space pirates campaign in something like the Astral but worse. And there's one motherlode, an entire planet of treasure. Presumably there are other floating edifices here and there. You can only get in with two bags of holding. You can only get out with two bags of holding, but they aren't easy to come by, as the nature of the plane makes normal ones impossible to create, and only inverse bags of holding can exist.
One is in the King's Evening, a tower with rooms oriented in a tesseractal pattern as per >>16860346
with directional gravity as per >>16859797
    and inhabited by >>16860369 >>16860756
One is in Treasure Planet, the nature of it's more powerful magic is what caused that body to become so large in the first place.
Also there's a frankentarrasque, regenerated from bits of the real tarrasque that were sent here.

I think additionally we should make King's Evening a spelljamming thing, it moves under it's own power as Endboss looks for more treasure.

Bag World was better. Essentially, rarely a bag of holding would allow access to the bagworld, where all the bags of holding had their stuff. It became populated when the owners began stashing their soldiers and henchmen there, and a daerns instant fortress and the limbs of hundreds of trolls that they didn't have the fire to destroy.

Something like this was actually made into a popular Blades of Exile campaign, back when Blades of Exile was new and cool and even a little artistic at times.

There was an item in at least Exile 3 and Blades if not ALL the games that was required to use a certain mage spell: Simulacrum. It worked like a special type of summoning spell -- instead of summoning a specific creature related to the spell, you could "Copy" a monster and save it to a certain crystal for calling forth later. Naturally, the strength of the monsters you could copy into your crystal depended on your own character's power. The spell could easily fail, and would automatically fail if you tried to copy plot-important characters or "boss" types.

But what I'm trying to get at is that the crystal was basically a Memory Stick of Holding.

This Blades campaign took place inside one of these crystals. It was meant to be played with a brand-new party consisting of only one member as opposed to the usual six, but you could play with a high level party if you really wanted. The idea was to figure out why you're in the crystal, who copied you and how to get out.

I didn't play through it because it started with a really, really hard encounter and gave up immediately because I was more interested in the editor than the game, but it looked pretty cool.

    Man, I miss Blades of Exile. ;~;

Also, I was trying to hammer out a generic, simple system that I could use initially for a game about rappin' but can use for other settings/styles and if I don't end up having my friends rap their way through Ukrane, I'm just gonna steal this setting. PLAGARISM, FUCK YEAH~

So let's imagine, then. Based on the info so far.

The first level is one where most adventurers and survivors end up. It's home to wandering tribes of people, the few rare deposits of farmable soil (at least in part made up of the long decayed bodies disposed of by double-bagging) a few powerful kingdoms with proud rulers, and some powerful and dangerous monsters. This level is like the vast outer layer of a planet. The loot here is mostly mundane stuff like gold, silver, clothes, etc. It isn't terribly dangerous.

The second layer is where people and things the first layer doesn't want are located. Not just the Prime Material Plane uses bags of holding. Other planes do do. So this is where stuff that is slightly dangerous ends up. This can be reached by double bagging OR by caving deeply enough - the entrances to the lower level well guarded, made of powerful magic items. It's much easier to go in than out.

Here the monsters are slightly more dangerous and a lot of the items are mildly cursed. Not badly enough to hurt people who aren't using them - they're just annoyances. Things here are still mostly mundane. There is some degree of civilization here, but it is strange and not all humanoid races. It's made up of the people and things that couldn't get along on the first layer, and were dumped below.

    Cotd.

The fourth layer holds no civilization. The items here are dangerous, deadly, and cursed. The monsters are truly horrifying and powerful - forgotten fragments of gods even the gods want to get rid of, aberrations from beyond the gate, displaced demon princes so vile even the hells and abyss wouldn't accept them. This place is strange, terrifying, and everything is dangerous.

The fifth layer is a vast void at the center of the planet, and it is filled with only strange aberrations from beyond. Here, the king of the layer rules from his castle of tesseracts. He is an abomination on the level of the lady of pain, strange and powerful. Thrust out of reality at the dawn of the multiverse, he is a being beyond comprehension, that even the gods would fear.

The reveal? He actually lives on the outer layer of the planet. Going "deeper" actually means going out closer to the infinite void, filled with strange aberrations unable to survive in the proper universe. You aren't going down - you're going out - and losing the protection of the layers of cursed items and dangerous banished creatures.

On the final level, there are gates. The laws of physics are strangest here, and only here, among the most dangerous things, can a way out be found. But beware, for you are not the only one that wishes to escape, and an open gate is like a guided beacon to the things that live in the void...

Whoops, left out the third layer.

The third layer is the layer where things start getting truly strange. The people who couldn't survive on the second layer and brave adventurers who couldn't get out are here, as well as monsters. There are some demons and devils here, powerful and dangerous (and probably insane) humanoids, and some of the truly dangerous cursed items make up the walls and ceiling. Just walking around is hazardous for those without strong natural resistances. Some powerful monsters inhabit this layer, and it's like a layer of the abyss. For instance, items from the elemental planes that produce infinite fire, or water, or other forces. Or cursed demonic items that twist the world around them.

Look at the 'troll welps' from Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine. When a troll can't re-attach a severed body part, it grows a new one. But the severed body part TRIES to grow a whole new troll, usually endng up with a miniature, flawed replica with one 'normal' sized bit. A severed foot with a troll the size of a ten-year-old human growing out of it, etc. Do the same thing here. There are micro-tarrasques all over. A single massive tooth with a warped body grown around it from the root, marauding as best a living-vorpal-lance can.The eye? Grown a small cluster of reptilian arms and legs. Of course, where the laws of physics break down, so too does the laws of biology, and on the 'outer' layers, roam even stranger mutations. Some not reptilian at all. Some not even recognizable as organic.

It occurs to me we can go further with this.

The Frankenterrasque is made up of mini-terrasques that were unable to regenerate into a full terrasque due to the wonky magic of bagworld.

They range from ONE small fragment, a mini-terrasque with the same difficulty to kill as a normal one but dramatically less abilities, to multiple mini-terrasques joined together.

THE frankenterasque is arguably stronger than the true terrasque, and absolutely insane. It is composed of hundreds or even thousands of fragments - some of which have magic items integrated into them. Parts of it are possessed by demons, other parts are formed around powerful cursed magic items.

There is little logic to the frankenterrasque's form. It could have hundreds of eyes or none, or multiple limbs and arms.

They can't fully reform - again, because of the nature of the place. So the result is just a greater and greater abomination, made up of mini-fragments.

It might also have abilities the terrasque does not, because of the integrated magical items. The ability to cause floods, or storms of fire - the ability to summon demons or cast spells. It might even be able to cast cursed wishes that backfire and damage it, causing it to go unstable and break back into hundreds of smaller fragments from time to time.

The worst part? Wish will only kill one fragment. It won't kill the whole beast.

    Oooh, I like the idea.

How about this? Demiliches are impossible here, because you can't project out of bagworld.

So liches that would otherwise become demiliches create new bodies out of magical items, animating them like a body.

The shattered remains of a golem; the broken remnants of magic swords, cursed and mundane.

And it's skull at the center, sending it all out in a mad swirl of power.

Not only can it cast its own spells; it can also use the abilities of magic items it has in its body.

I figure them for third layer creatures.

Second layer would be powerful regular liches and evil kingdoms.

That is, deep into the interior of the fifth layer.

And most aberrations come into the world by entering through gates opened by adventurers, demons, and monsters hoping to escape.

It typically doesn't go well. When even the fragments of dead gods and demon princes fear to go to the fifth layer, you know it's not a nice place.

And speaking of the cast off fragments of dangerous dead gods, there too is an idea.

Like the terrasque, they cannot be revived or ever have worshippers. The fragments that arrive here are like ghosts of gods, not real ones.

But they can combine. Imagine a ghost of a god composed of a hundred dead gods; gods of torture, of murder, of healing, of magic - all shoved into one.

Hoplessly insane, they range from "not quite avatar of a god" level, to "holy shit, run the fuck away!" level.

    And they are utterly unpredictable.

Some powerful fragments of dead gods may be like the Grisgolls, but on a much more powerful level. Creating bodies out of powerful cursed artifacts. Super/divine Grisgolls, casting divine magic - and utterly unpredictable.

The "end boss" is the horde of epic level abominations that attacks the party as they try to escape through a gate.

The king himself is - and should be - a distant and major force, like the lady of pain. Not someone you fight directly, even if you are a god.

Any actual civilization that could survive for more than a few moments on that level would probably end up utilizing the debris in order to keep the higher-level abominations from wiping them out. Anything that would step in would be conscripted for use assuming it wasn't another frankenterrasque-type deal.

I feel inclined on running a game in this setting.
    It will be glorious.
    Think about it!
You play with your bros and have some rather conventional adventure going with a nice quest, the usual business, everything is fine, the group has cornered the BBEG and looks forward on killing the son of a thousand bitches.
And then he suddenly somehow makes them end up in the bagoverse.
Imagine the players faces when they get sucked into an uncertain nothingness as the BBEG laughs a maniac sick victory laugh.
And then you tell them that 'the prologue' is over.

The simple fact that they even HAVE a civilization at all is what makes them so terrifying. This is a society that's able to hold their own against the other abominations that dwell on the deeper levels of Bagworld -- this requires brutally cutthroat methods and very advanced levels of cleverness and innovation. At first they might actually appear as a welcome respite, an oasis of safety and stability amidst the madness of frankentarrasque bits and ghost-god fragments. They welcome newcomers with open arms, and the weary travellers eagerly accept their hospitality...but there is an ulterior motive.
Survival in Bagworld is not easy, and the Thingri have given up on escape. It seems impossible, and those who seek it are destined only for an early grave. Better for them to devote their resources to the good of the collective.
Eventually, the hospitality of the Thingri turns to harsh pressure. An ultimatum is issued: Join us, or die. Surrender your humanity and become a thing of nightmares, a cog in the well-oiled machine of Thingri society, or surrender your life and become a subject of twisted, bizarre research and bequeath your equipment to your tormentors for their own use.

    Okay, I've got it.

The Gray Thingri society are abominations imitating scientists, and doing it WRONG.

They're trying to imitate people because only normal, sane people can open the gates into reality. You have to be from reality to open the gates.

The problem is that they're abberations imitating people, not people.

So they're trying to be people, but it's all wrong.

And they need people to experiment on to learn how to open the gates.

And if they do, they'll enter a realm and flood it with aberrations.

The debris of that reality will be added to the far realm.

In the game we play, there is a spell that basically does what the bag of holding thingamajik does.
And you can use it with artifacts, effectively putting it on arrows, stones and so forth and when they get shaken up a bit or smashed against something, the spell opens a small hole to the void of the Limbus.

As for the King Evening dweller.

If anyone has seen Kara no Kyoukai Paradox Spiral here's a nice idea...

Plot summary is something like this (spoilers):
A mad buddhist priest that has been living for several centuries builds an apartment in modern Tokyo. The people inside live in one half of the building while the other is empty (unbeknowest to the people that live in the other half). Now the house is build in a fashion that numbs the mind and makes people go crazy. In the end they kill each other. The peoples brains are kept underground in vats and fuel ghoulish creatures that repeat the last day of their originals over and over again, dying, coming back to life and dying again.
The priest is part of the house and can melt into the walls, control the ghouls and so on.

It might be a fucking neat thing to have in there, too.

    Actually, that's another issue.

Items could be traps. Perhaps not meant as traps, but if you run into the wrong item - or wrong combination of items, you could be trapped in an area.

Sometimes, you could run into areas where other creatures are trapped or bound.

Barbarian is thrown across the gap, misses, and hits a prison-gem, which teleports him into a small room inside it with a tiny fragment of the frankenterrasque.

The gem has to be shattered before he is eaten.

I think that would be suitable for a lesser creature, but I don't see how The King would be really useful for it.

As for the true second most terrifying thing in bagworld, I think fragments of the king might take it.

As he himself is an aberration, small fragments may break off and descend into bagworld, rampaging until destroyed.

They alone can destroy entire civilizations of high level creatures.

Even the Gray Thingri society fears fragments of the king.

Note that these aren't the king himself, but just small fragments. Like insane avatars of a god.

He cannot be defeated, but they can.

So.... now that we have spoken about the threats to your body like Tarrasques and aberrations and the gray thingri... what about the dangers to your soul/mind?

I imagine there being once human now twisted beings that madly collect items overthrown by their own greed.
Imagine them, empty eyes with blind stares, their bodies completely malshaped, hunchback like people that carry a load of items on their back and they will ever strap more things to themselves. The magical power in their items makes them collect more and more, corrupts their minds and reshapes their bodies.

Beware those, who lost their humanity to greed. They will collect and carry whatever catches their attention.

Those are probably second and even first level monsters.

Dangerous, but not too much compared to some of the greater creatures out there.

I wonder what dwarven society would be like here.

They'd mine the walls of the layers, and probably be the ones to break through from one layer to the next, living in caverns in the treasure.

Perhaps they'd search for veins of food and water, or more useful things. In a place where gold is worthless, they just wouldn't care.

And there are endless items here, so why forge new ones? Just mine the most useful ones out.

Dwarves from outside might well end up as greed monsters, being surrounded by all that gold.

Also, in a world where nothing can truly die, what would actually dying mean? Your mind just twists around the fact that you just died but you can just possess your body once it's back in shape, or even when it isn't? Your soul crying out for the gods to take it away from this hell, with nothing but an echo heard in the silence?
What would the Kings fragments be actually like? Lovecraftian horrors that could be born as anything between a rampaging barbarian(missile) and a god of life, who goes mad 10 seconds after her birth for realizing the state of the realm she was born into?

Well, obviously, when your soul is seperated from your mortal shell, the soul will then be a ghost of sorts.
They might be consumed by some sort of ghost-eating demon, collected by a soulharvesting abomination that uses it like the King uses bodies and items. Maybe they try to possess items or other people in order to get back into life.
Or they try and kill people so they aren't alone anymore.

A rather subtle, yet still quite horrifying idea might be that people simply don't die. That is: your body might get destroyed, buy you simply never die from it.
Imagine a bunch of people shuffling around on legstumps with missing limbs or a mere head opening and closing its mouth in a vain attempt to talk without a throat and lungs.

If the surface of the treasure planet is very heavily covered in magical items you could have a giant wave of magical explosions moving across the surface. One item going off sets off the one next to it and so on. The wave front circles the entire planet daily, just enough time for the magical energies of the items to regenerate. To survive you need some seriously heavy duty magical shielding or the ability to move bloody fast to keep in front of the wave.

    Actually, I like your idea.
First, roll to choose source. Real book, PDF, etc (maybe just a coin flip). Then, roll for letter. Look at only the sources that start with that letter, count them up, and roll that number. Count the pages, then roll that. With the page finally chosen, just count the items that appear on the page and roll to select those.

Hmm, 5 rolls is a little much, but it would certainly be less work than listing EVERY SINGLE ITEM EVER.

Alternatively, I would have shared rather large PDF of items from this site called Crystal Keep, but it seems that WotC told them to shut down their PDF compilations of monsters and items so it won't work.

    Bagworld so far:
Bagworld itself is a realm without gravity, but all surfaces act like they have gravity with escher-esque physics. There is one big ball of treasures, named treasure planet, that holds inside it the castle of Kings evening in all of the 5 levels of the realm.
Only way in is trough bag of holding paradox, when you take a bag and stuff it inside another bag. Other paradoxes give glimpses of Bagworld, and Ruler shows up in all paradoxes, looking beyond the time at our planes from his throne, sitting in his chamber inside the 5-dimensional castle named the Kings evening.
The Bagworld itself is a nest of magic, riches and unspeakable horrors layered on 5 different levels. There is no magical way out and gods cannot hear you. Dead has no power on this plane.
The most horrifying things in Bagworld:
    #4. Frankentarrasque
    #3 The Gray Thingri society
#2 The fragments of the King
    #1 Player characters fate

Ooh. We can combine this. There are fortress-cities, built using magical items and jury-rigging. Each one has their own defense mechanisms against the monsters what roams out there, and there are nomadic caravaneers who transport goods from one fortress-city to another. Usually these caraveneers are eyed with suspicion, as the twisted ones are known to imitate caraveneers just to get in the fortress-cities...

The same thing as the Astral Projection + Silver thread question, imo. The connection to the phylactery draws the phylactery in with the lich, OR the lich loses the connection to the phylactory - it becomes mundane and he has to create a new one on in Bagworld. And he better do it quickly, because there are far worse things than liches wandering the Shining Wastes...

Would there be anything unique to the Bagworld? Like any unique terrain or is it just composed of what comes through reality?

And since you have so many magic items trapped together, what if you get weird magic mixtures like a staff of ice fire. Or a ring healing distinigrate?

Another thing could be the phylactery is just an anchor that keeps the soul from being dragged down to the hells, and since souls ain't going no where in bagworld, they can just reform on their own.

Depends on how lichs work in your game.

You've also got tomb-cities, made by the spirits of the dead that trapped their souls in magical items to keep from being sent to the void.

They may be friendly or hostile, as the situation warrants.

    And they are not immortal.

Yes. You'd get weird combinations of items, as well as just plain weird and dangerous items - worthless or dangerous things flushed out of reality by double-bagging.

And not only the prime material makes magical items, remember. So you're dealing with the magical items of demons, angels, and elemental beings ON TOP of all the stuff mortals have made.

You can get some really weird shit. Especially when you factor in the cursed items.

ESPECIALLY when some of the cursed items mangle or or alter other magical items.

As for the fauna and flora, I imagine there would be quite a few never seen elsewhere, simply because of the magical items needed to make them.

What we must also consider is that Bagworld is a universal void space. All paradoxes are connected to this place. All severe paradoxes, such as bag of holding/portable hole mishaps, cause spatial rips into Bagworld that are meant, in the natural order of things, to remove that which would disorder universes at large.

Therefore, the results of paradoxes from all types of universes must be considered: the magical and mystical such as D&D and other fantasy settings provide, and those of technological disparities, such as time paradoxes caused by careless time travelers. And of course we have those Eldritch Horrors beyond all comprehension, the fevered ravings of insane minds that were made flesh for but an instant before being rejected by reality.

The result? It's not just magic you have to worry about here in the UnUniverse.

It's everything the universe couldn't handle.

    Can YOU handle it?

They'd also have insane magic resistance, due to eating so many magical items.

What if... the King was completely sentient. Vetinari-sort. He does what he can to maintain the ball. He could even be a demilich, constantly working around and keeping the ball of magic and chaos together.

Perhaps if the ball of magic and insanity was ever let out, other dimensions would collapse. It is a place borne of necessity, there must always exist a Bagworld. It is the remnants of all other dimensions that didn't make it, such as demi-planes created by wizards that died. All the items mass into the ball of treasure, but the magic of the planes unravel and bathe the area in pure magic.

A realm of flotsam, mistakes, and Barbarian missles.

The players could potentially reach them, if they traveled the distance from the surface of the layer to the moon.

    Kings evening and it's ruler:
captcha, crazy old man trope, someone elses 5-dimensional dungeon idea, eschers drawings.
    the gray society:
Captcha, horror movies and stories, tucker's kobolds.

Something I tried in one of my own games, influenced by many, many cartoons.

I see Bagworld is shaping up quite nicely.
    However I wonder...
Let's just say: there must be a way out, maybe an incredibly risky one. You know, when the gate isn't closed off or something or made at the wrong time... or made at all, some abberations leak into the outside world. Frankentarrasques could, for instance, work like a seed. If they get to (any) kind of Reality, they start to transform the space around them into the escheresque world of another nothingness. Either way, their regeneration abilities would cause a flood of Tarrasques over a certain period of time. Whenever someone tries to kill it, it simply regenerates back. The only way to get rid of them is sending them back into bagworld.
And that's only for Tarrasques. Imagine some even bigger abomination getting out of bagworld.

As for the artifacts, the PCs would be encrusted in magical items when they make their escape, cause let's be honest, the PCs might learn that in a world of treasure, the only thing invaluable is food and water. But once they make their escape they'll haul as many magic items as they can. So maybe there should be some sort of mechanism against it. Maybe traveling out of bagworld causes the items to become mundane again? That feels anticlimatic. Maybe carrying magic items when traveling out will get 'someones' attention, which must be avoided at all costs.
Y'know, the darkest, most twisted things exist in the layers of bagworld. Ripping a hole back to reality is one thing, but carrying magic items with you to also pinpoint the location of the hole for ANYTHING to home in on might prove a better motivation to not even TRY to carry magical items back home.

    captcha: events lepleade
Yes Captcha, a magical chain reaction that blows up entire continents of artifacts is called a lepleade. It might be similar to thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornados or similar things depending on the amount of magical power used.

    A few points:

    1) Is this place separate from the flow of time? Can you be trapped in the bagworld for a thousand years and emerge at exactly the same moment you left but with all the memories and horrifying degeneracy acquired by a dozen lifetimes? Or worse, could you emerge at given point in time since they are all equally connected to the void.

    2) The Vestiges that are called upon by Binder (BoM D&D 3.X) are specified to exist in the void outside of the universe. Can all of them be found in some form or another here?
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)08:50 No.16869134
    >>16868033
This raises a good point. Who is the BBEG? Is it the Evening King who keeps you here and who holds all that has come into place eternally within the void? Or is it the Gray Thingri Society who seek to crack the very division between what is and what was never meant to be and in doing unleash the horrors of the void upon the multiverse? Or is it the one who has escaped before you, the original villain that trapped you here in the first place and became trapped with you, that knows the truth of this world and how to draw forth all of the most powerful and forbidden weapons ever created?

I think the Frankentarrasque would be much scarier (and less comedic to imagine) if it's nature and origin wasn't known or explained. In the void no asks where it came from. It just 'is'. And it is the flesh. The flesh takes many forms but its object is clear. It will consume and grow whatever nourishment enters this forsaken place. And whoever. And just like the countless other horrors trapped here by the machinations of gods and men, it can never be allowed to escape.
