    38 KB EVO Quest - Part VII BLORP !!RkFQIQOO6xk 11/03/11(Thu)20:14 No.16831362
    (Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=EVO%20quest)

You are not quite sure what you are. The sunfangs call you the Guardian of the Earth and their deity... but you know that you are no god.

You started out as an overgrown cave salamander. Unlike most other creatures, though, you are still evolving, changing, and mutating, and can actually tap into the power of 1) THE MYSTERIOUS TIME STREAM, and 2) crystals that, when ingested, make you stronger, but kill everything else.

And, as part of your declaration of war against the elven woodfolk, you have just finished turning the trees into horrifying pillars of bleeding, screaming meat, defeated the STEALTH YETI (who was also a gigantic pushover), and are now pursuing a high-ranking woodfolk who may or may not have the ability to turn into a gigantic monster herself.

... given how things have been going, you probably will never have a boring day ever again.

Op, did you somehow make up for the bullshit of that king guy eating the crystal when he had BIG METAL all over his body and no place to store it?

You leave your Bearex to roar its victory to the sky, and start flying to the overseer's hut that looms tall over the woodfolk's giant pit/mine/... thing. You know that your sunfang army should be able to finish off the woodfolk army without any difficulties- King Selac really DID take all the best warriors to fight you on your home turf.

... you, on the other hand, have a woodfolk crystal-favored to catch up to; they ALWAYS have had powers comparable to yours. Those crystal-favored have never gone down easily, and you don't think they're going to start today.

And hey, maybe you WON'T get almost destroyed by and/or mashed against a giant meteor this time! This thought, for some reason, buoys your spirit like whoa.

You touch down on the roof of the two-story building and immediately find the window that the crystal-favored probably escaped into; inside, there's a surprisingly modest resting place. It's another square-ish room favored by the woodfolk, with a large bed against one wall and a dresser and a small chest pushed against the opposing wall.

Hell, the whole room immediately makes you feel claustrophobic- but then again, when you were a cave salamander, you were never exactly a pack rat.

There's also a stairwell leading down, and you can hear the sounds of battle going on- namely, a woodfolk shrieking her lungs out, the gurgling roars of whatever it is you summoned to fight her, and the building shakes every now and then for some reason.

Back on all fours, you lizard-dash over to the chest and try to pry it open, but it's crudely bolted shut. ROLL 1D40 TO-

    - wait, no, fuck that shit. I guess you'd have to roll if you were a fleshy pink humanoid with weak nubs for fingers, but you? You've got super-sharp rending claws for a reason, and you cut at that motherfucking chest's lid until you get it open.

... there are no crystals. Of COURSE the woodfolk would be inconsiderate enough NOT to leave these mysterious super-powerful artifacts in an easily-accessible boudoir. Instead, you find clothes, clothes, and a small pile of lizard and amphibian skeletons that happen to be about your size.

... you're not sure you want to know what her hobbies are.

You sneak a peek down the stairwell and immediately see the woodfolk crystal-favored, who's finely dressed (i.e. NOT animal skins). She's gray-haired but still strong and regal... and she proves the 'strong' part by hurling a rock right at the critterblob that you'd Biomancy'd together out of all the vermin the building.

Before you can even think about running in with a calm aura, the woodfolk glances at you out of the corner of her eyes, and gestures carelessly in your direction. "Guards. Dispose of it."

A tear in space-time opens up and deposits... some kind of large, drooling, gray-pelted canine. Immediately, you can tell that it's the same as the bear and the bird that you'd fought before- not crystal-favored, but still with a few unnatural tricks up their sleeve-

    - and the wolf shimmers before splitting into FIVE wolves, who howl as one and start bounding up the staircase in a single-file line, intent on tearing your throat out.

    And once more, you laugh.

You laugh for two reasons: first, because the woodfolk summoned a pack-dependent animal that fights best in wide-open spaces, and second, THEY ARE CHARGING UP A WOODEN STAIRCASE.

Still laughing the laugh of a man who has discovered that you are the only sane person left in an insane world, you focus your Biomancy and PUSH. The wolf, much like the Yeti, is almost completely mindless, and it has no comprehension of what's happening before it's too late- as if they were all picked up by an invisible potter's hands, the wolf's illusory cohorts are rolled up into a flowing sphere of meat, fur, and bones, before-

    - *SPLORCH*-

    - the staircase suddenly sprouts sharp roots that impale the wolfblob from at least twenty different angles, causing a virtual eruption of blood and guts.

The woodfolk has dispatched your first critterblob with a spike of earth (from out of nowhere!?), and is now staring in horror at what you have wrought. She cannot see PAST the wolfblob, but she can hear the horrible hissing, bubbling sounds coming from the staircase as you deal with the final wolf.

"That's- that's impossible! Those illusions don't actually have any physical PRESENCE! You shouldn't have been able to mold them with biomancy!" she shrieks, backing away from the spreading pool of blood even as the blood drains from her OWN face. "How did you DO that!?"

You wriggle out from past the wolfblob and blink all your eyes at slightly different times, making yourself look like you have seven lazy eyes.

    >BLORP.

That's how you motherfucking roll, motherfucker.

And you set the now skeletonized wolf, backlit by a sickly green energy, right back at the woodfolk crystal-favored...

    >TRIPLE CRITS, WHAT THE HELL
    >SQUAD BROKEN

    - who shrieks again and loses all of her composure. You feel a surge of power from her, and the mud walls suddenly lash out with a fist, catching the wolf skeleton in the side; without finishing the uninjured skeleton off or attacking you, the woodfolk starts fleeing into a side room, scrabbling like a prey animal- or rather, like she's got a demon on her trail.

Parasitic mouth hooks -> Into her
Summon shoggoths out of tree roots in whatever direction she flees.
If that Wolf shoggoth can outrun us, we should ride it into battle.

Whenever we do come to face her, we should hit her with a Calming Aura strong enough to paralyse her, speak into her mind (via the mouth-hooks) "You want to play with the nice doggies, don't you?", and use Biomancy to meld her into one of the Shoggoths, while still alive.

Then we eat as much of her as we can while keeping her alive by Biomancy, then animate her skeleton with Necromancy. At the moment of her death due to eating, we transfer her spirit into her bones (again via necromancy), and have her watch as we devour the rest of her.

Now under our control by necromancy and calming aura, we force her to endlessly relive the memories of what she saw, and force her to ENJOY seeing those things, basically because who wouldn't want to see the awesome shit we do?

Then we trap her body in the ground, dedicate her spirit to the Ancients, and let her sit there in her memories for the rest of time.

Any suggestions/comments to improve on this?

The Ancients are displeased with me! They reward cunning and the brave, not those who are meek and hide behind the walls of sanity. We must break through the gate of reality if we want to gain the favour of the ancient ones!

Our biomancy powers must alter the very earth itself, we must raise the very trees from the roots and command them to tear apart our foes! We must rain down burning plasma on our enemies and watch them sizzle as the acid burns through flesh and bone alike!

So too shall this women face our wrath, she shall have her flesh torn from her bones, have her bones crushed into dust, and have that dust burned away into oblivion as we offer her still squirming soul to the ancients. ANCIENT ONES GRANT ME YOUR POWER!

You immediately slide under the earthen assault; before you, the wolf skeleton scrabbles to its feet and knocks down the fleeing woodfolk; she turns and punches it aside with surprising strength, and attempts to climb back to her feet, facing you down with panicking eyes-

    - until a blazing lance, made of the very essence of life, slams into her torso and pins her to the wall.

The woodfolk hisses, clawing weakly at the energy even as it burns her fingers... but then desists as your calming aura washes over her, causing her to slump in defeat. "You..." she hisses, mortal terror temporarily overriding even this compulsion. "S-Stay back! Stay..."

Webs of life knock her arms back and tie them against the walls, stopping her from getting to whatever crystal she has on her person. You hop onto your wolf skeleton and have it bear you over to the screaming, cursing woodfolk; before she can do anything else, you send another pulse of your calming aura out.

She watches you from underneath drooping eyelids; with a comforting BLORP, you snake out your tongue- that marvelous(?) thing(?) that stopped Razz from going insane with panic, all those days ago- and lay against her neck, coaxing her through the worst of the pain; she's completely helpless...

... and even as you sink your hooks into her throat, she's still mentally cursing you and herself for her helplessness. You can FEEL her hate, which had burned for eons, and is still burning, even now, buried underneath the layers of calmness you have placed on her mind.

    >"You... craven, dimwitted... beast... ... may our lord Bolbox... finally claim... your life..."

She fades from this life not with a shriek, not with a cackle, and not even with a whimper; instead, she fades with a quiet sigh.

While you ARE curious about what that back room leads to, well.. if you want to consume her flesh and look for her crystal, you'd better do it fast; the bioplasma is going to burn through her body in a minute or so.

... which is pretty fucking awesome, since you now have the tools to PLAY WITH THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF LIFE. Honestly, your new ability to travel through shadows WOULD seem a little plain in comparison, if not for the fact that you can never poo-poo anything that's so damned convenient.

You also now also have six legs; the new pair are smaller and set above your front legs, and kind of fold up to the sides of your head. You can't quite rear up and go all (salamander-)centaur on people yet, since your body's not built for it, but...

As an experiment, you try punching with them. The thick wall immediately shatters as if it were glass, sending fragments flying ridiculously far.

    ... yeah. That'll do.

You hear the victory whoops of your sunfangs outside; the woodfolk, it seems, have been routed. You're still standing in the hut, which has yet to be fully explored- but there's also that gaping pit that is the centerpiece of this whole goddamn settlement.

Within moments, you... actually, you're not sure how you did what you just did.

But the wolf skeleton is now augmented with enough bones to make it bulky and nearly twice the size it was before; given all the illusory(?) bones that you brought into existence with your biomancy(??) and scavenged, parts of it seem to be see-through.

The final touch is the spectral mane framing the wolf skull's head.

You resolve to get RIGHT THE FUCK on wreaking havoc on your followers' genetic code, once you finish searching the building and the village.

... but first, well, you have to decide what to do with what you DO find.

First, there is a small cellar, but it's just stocked with normal foodstuffs: nuts, berries, and some sort of strange lumpy root vegetables that you've never seen before. Other than that, there is literally nothing of interest down here, except for a few spiderwebs.

The room where the woodfolk crystal-favored was running to, however, has nothing except for the strange blue circle on the floor that rimmed by seamless, shining metal, of higher quality than you've ever seen... well, ANYWHERE.

You have no clue what the hell it is for.

... well, okay, correction. The wolf skeleton is wicked... but it's not FUCKING AWESOME yet.

You remove some of the bulk from the wolf skeleton and redesign it; there are now arms sticking out from the sides of its shoulders, which end in bulky webbed protrusions.

A little bit of necromancy later, you manage to create reasonable facsimiles of bees, if bees were small undead bony projectiles with web-wings and overlarge stingers made of broken bone.

... and then you fuck the undead-control limit and resurrect the little lizards, which are now riding the wolf skeleton construct like pilots driving an Imperial AT-AT Walker of horrifying death. One has even fashioned a little commander's cap out of dust-brushed spiderweb, and is lounging between the wolf's shoulderblades.

You pause for a moment to bask in the sheer ridiculousness of your twisted genius.

    ...

    ...

Okay, NOW you can decide what to do with the weird unnatural circle in the other room.

Seventeen is the first to make his thoughts known. "Never... seen metal like this. So strong! So good! Better than what you get from star rock!" The forgeslug is rocking back and forth with excitement. "Must find forgeslug who did this!"

Aazz's thoughts are a little more blunt. "I don't like it. It's weird, it's unnatural, and it makes about as much fucking sense as anything else the woodfolk come up with," he mutters, picking at his non-existent ears with a claw.

Razz doesn't say anything, though he calls one of the sunfang scouts forward. The hapless volunteer touches it, and- his whole BODY starts shimmering, disappearing from view within five seconds and leaving behind a startled yelp.

"AWAY FROM THE PORTAL! GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE PORTAL!! EVERYONE'S GONNA EXPLODE IN GREEN PLANTS AND SHIT!!"

Everyone- and I mean, EVERYONE- piles the hell out of that room; the scout shrieks like a small child and hurtles through the door, while Seventeen actually rolls like a... rolling cube. The rubbernecking sunfang evacuate the overseer's hut in record time, diving, rolling, and generally running.

    >... BLORP.

Aazz rolls his eyes. "Kidding! JUST KIDDING! C'mon, guys, get back here! That green stuff was actually all him, guys! Goddamn it, guuuys-..."

Ten minutes later, once the panic dies down, you get to work, snapping out orders with amazing speed.

    >GLEEP, BLORP, HURP.

"Seventeen, take any-fuckin'-one you want and go see what the goddamn treehuggers were doing in the pit," Aazz commands. "Ore, crystals, metals- whatever they were doing, I want you to figure it out. And by that, I mean the Guardian. Got it?"

Seventeen makes this absurd squeal of joy before sliming off, looking like a kid given a key to the candy factory.

"And... you want me to go and help Razz figure out the fuckin' tallies and shit?" The wraith pauses before nodding. "Alright, you're the Guardian. We'll wait here then and plan for what to do next, eh? Damn straight!"

As he moves off, you mentally command Cerebus to stand watch over the portal... and mentally command Bearex to come and stand ON it.

Most of the building disintegrates the second he sets his foot in it, but you DO manage to get him on the device eventually; a few seconds later, he disappears with a defiant roar.

You follow soon after, at least for now.

When you reappear, you're... both pretty high up, actually, but mountain peaks are STILL rising up around you. You're not sure exactly where you are... until you lay eyes on the circular flat thing that's become part of the landscape.

It's a large, half-metal disc that's lodged in the landscape at about a 45-degree angle; there's a layer of soil on top of it, and various green plants growing on top of it, making it look like someone lodged a rounded plate in the ground before slapping a garden on top.

... whatever it is, it is NOT natural.

On the other hand (and at least from where you are standing), you can hear birds singing and insects chirping away, just like any other field-slash-forest; it doesn't LOOK like there are any horrifying monsters waiting to cross back through the portal and eviscerate everyone there.

You immediately clamber up the length of Bearex's body and then jump off his T-Rex skull's nose before flapping to gain altitude.

Once you're up there, you see... nothing. No giant monsters waiting to destroy you, no buildings looming in the distance, nothing. A quick sweep of your biomancy's life sense comes up empty in the immediate area, save for the usual critters and other background signals.

You turn to spiral back down and as you face south, yHOLY FUCK YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING.

The entire area that has been your playing field is laid out before you; you can see most of the forest, the two-story tall overseer's hut poking out of the trees (along with, of course, the top of the larger space rock some ways to the left), and, dead ahead, is the biggest damn body of water you've seen. Ever.

You realize that you're pretty far north of the Woodfolk Pit Village, possibly in the mountains above your home cave.

You do a LITTLE bit more exploration.

The disc... thing... is roughly the size of a small village. You have absolutely no clue why it has to be so big, and without getting closer, you can't see any other defining features worth checking out. There's not much else up here on this plateau; save for the teleporter, there seems to be no physical way to get up the mountainside, not without flying.

You're really not sure why the woodfolk crystal-favored was running here, of all places, or what she would DO here.

The surrounding mountains are peaked with snow, but it's not quite that cold down where you are just yet. Amazingly enough, you can just barely make out the rare animal moving around up there; even that high up, life exists.

That done, you spiral back down to the waiting Bearex and teleport back to the Woodfolk Pit. Your champion goes back to... to doing whatever it is that the T-Rex skull thing does in its free time, while you make a beeline for Seventeen.

He STILL looks ecstatic when you find him down in the Pit. It's... well, it's a pit, except with ramps curving up along the sides. Down here, at the bottom, there are a few tunnels that end in visible, shallow dead ends. You're not too familiar with the mining process, so it all looks like a bunch of nothing to you.

Seventeen seems to think differently. "Glorious! Wonderful! Silly woodfolk left most ores untouched! Great day! Can make everything with all this!"

You BLORP and immediately outline what you want him to do. The forgeslug nods uncertainly.

"... never see anything like it before," Seventeen says. "Never HEAR anything like it. Will do best, but teleporty thing..." He waves a pseudopod uncertainly. "Not specialty. But will try! Can leave other sunfangs to dig ores if need and want to."

    >>16833708
You... you find absolutely no crystals lying around, though you still have the green one on your person.

Multiple searches confirm this. If the woodfolk were storing the crystals anywhere, they were certainly not storing them HERE... which is strange, since this IS the biggest woodfolk village that you know of.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, it's time to dick around with someone's life essence. You immediately set to work on getting a volunteer together- the scout from before- and start tinkering.

You were THINKING about improving them based on their functions; warrior sunfangs could be bigger and tougher, while the leafdancers could be geared towards intelligence and being wily. First, you take the scout and make him as tall as Aazz was; second, you bulk out his muscles; third, you try adding super-sharp claws to his hands; fourth, you-

.... well, at least you've figured out that with your level of Biomancy, you can make a maximum of THREE PERMANENT CHANGES to one living creature before they grow unstable. Or are no longer living, whichever one comes first.

You summon Aazz, who rises up out of the ground from where he was helping Razz sort out the sunfangs, and explain the situation to him briefly. He seems to take everything in stride, though-

"... you SURE you wanna stop him from punching the spearman in the balls? I think I know the fucker, he goddamn deserves to walk funny for a week or so," Aazz smirks, his arms crossed.

    >BLORP.

"... alright, fine, I don't really want any deaths here." Aazz scratches his chin. "I'll go stop the big guy and kick the spearman FOR him."

Once you reach Sunfang Meteor, you realize that you haven't QUITE fixed that broken support pillar yet. Now, though, you're kind of glad that you haven't.

You round up the few non-combatant sunfangs left behind and get them to go into the meteor ASAP; then, you alight on top of the thing and concentrate.

    >ATTEMPT! ROLL-

    ... no.

No, you don't NEED any stinking rolls. You MADE Sunfang Meteor what it was back when your Biomancy was barely 1/6th as powerful as it is now. If you didn't need any fucking help back THEN, then you can certainly take care of this now, and on your own.

Once more, your vision goes a brilliant emerald green, tinged around the edges with gold. And...

... the vines, trees, and branches that were all twisted into flowing pillars twitch, undulate, and then start thrashing all over again, shifting constantly in ways not visible to the naked eye. The entire meteor groans as it's shifted from side to side, and you hear the worried yells of the sunfangs inside, but you ignore all of that as you continue to beat nature and life upside their heads with your sledgehammer of a power.

Eventually, after a few long minutes... the flowing pillars pause. Undulate once more.

And then, like tentacles, they start thrashing about; the meteor's bottom drags across the landscape as the whole thing starts moving, and gouges the earth as it picks up speed. Underneath the dragging end, flashes of green are visible, as if there are (comparatively) small insect legs pushing it along too.

An unstoppable juggernaut of tentacles, skittering legs, and space rock, Sunfang Meteor thunders ponderously through the forest, destroying the remnants of the woodfolk village beneath it and EVERY GODDAMN THING IN FRONT OF IT.

When the Woodfolk pit comes into view, the Sunfang Meteor is rumbling along, eating distance at a disturbingly fast rate. You can already HEAR the screams of sunfangs emanating from the Woodfolk Pit, and not all of them are of awe.

    But you got this covered.

The meteor's vegetation tentacles bunch up underneath it, and the whole thing is suddenly airborne again, hurtling right at the pit as if it wants nothing more than to be that hole-in-one...

... but then, the greenery attached to the meteor lashes out AGAIN- the tentacles that were dragging it along, and the "insect legs" on the dragging end- and they catch the edges of the pit, digging into the rim with all the force of a grasping set of claws. Even as the meteor bounces like a hyperactive teenager on a trampoline, and even as EVERYTHING- the earth, the meteor, and the vines- groan ominously, any tentacles that slip are replaced with more vines repurposed from elsewhere...

... and UNLIKE said hyperactive kid on a trampoline, the meteor eventually bounces to a stop without falling to the ground and breaking its neck. Instead, it remains suspended above the pit, rising FAR above the two-story overseer's hut.

You raise your head and look down upon the awestruck masses.

    >BLORP.

WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME, SUNFANG METEOR.

Alright- I'm going to end it here, because I NEED to get up early tomorrow and get cracking on all the projects I have to take care of.

I have the strangest feeling that a few threads ahead, we will have all new reaction pictures from some of the characters in this quest...

Damn it took me to long to catch up. Well now that I'm finally caught up with this awesome thread I have to say, good work OP. Blorp quest is glorious.

A suggestion for future actions though, Aazz should remain the head of our Wratihguard (and we should start looking into getting more of them) instead since he's been such a bro lets resurrect his son. Like full on summon the son's soul back to this world and biomancy up a body for him and stick said soul in it. We may want to experiment first though.
