Your name is Bill Johnson(Son of john.)

You are a farmer, What is your major crop? It is spring the first planting of year needs to be done. You stand at the edge of your one field, in front of your shanty made of a few boards, a thatch roof, and a poorly put together chimney. You have a wooden hoe, and spade and wear little more than a long tunic.

    for crops you have:
    Wheat
    Turnips
    Clubfoot plant(potatoes)
    Edible Nightshade(tomatoes)

You're fairly certain you did. Though you'd be arsed who your lord actually is. As for the guy who collects taxes it would be Sir Wilhelm Massel, a local knight who seems to be on fairly good terms with the village.

With a shrug, you ignore the hoofbeats and waltz over to a nearby hedge row and begin to pull branches that have fallen from trees down. As you have no ace you are forced to collect deadwood till you can save up some money to buy one.

You manage to get a few branches out of the mess that is the border between you and whatever lays beyond as the sound of a horn blares through the air announcing the rider.

"you there! Your duty to your lord has been found lacking!" A man yells as he rides up to your house, trampling through a section of your freshly turned field, compacting the soil.

"You are required to produce fourteen bushels of of wheat before the end of the year, Should you fail to do so. His lordship Istavan the second shall take back your land."

    As the highest...well here goes.

With a sigh you set down your armful of branches and walk back towards your house. Sitting atop a horse is a young man, perhaps twenty though looking at him closer you'd say fifteen.

Without a word you enter into your house and grab your trusty hoe. Made with your own hands its simple, and has done in its fair share of goblins and other ilk that has tried to steal your crops.

Stepping back outside you glower at the young man and without so much as a word, swing the hoe upwards with all your might, years of tilling making the blow powerful enough to knock the poor fool off his horse. he lands with a heavy thud, his breastplate dented from the impact, your hoe cracked.

Without so much as a word you walk over to the man and draw his own sword. You note that it'd make a damn fine axe.

The young man stares at you, terror in his eyes and a gurgling coming from what might be a broken rib.

Dropping the hoe you take the blade him by the scruff of his hair, haul him to standing and, like so many other animals that you've done in the past you quickly slit his throat, blood spraying across the soil.

    You have acquired:
    >One short sword
    >One dented breastplate.

you undress the corpse, dragging it out to the field, with the broken hoe(should probably get a new one) you manage to dig a grave where you hide the body. it shall now feed your tomatoes.

The horse seems to be a fine animal though not a work horse, rather a riding animal that is more used to traveling great distances than plowing. not bad for a messenger but little use for a raft animal.

You hide the clothes inside your shack, putting them under the straw you call a bed. the breastplate is gonna take some work to remake into a good plow, but the sword should do as is, though it will need to get sharpened a lot cause of the wood work.

A little quick thinking on your end of things, you take the sword and place it in the fire getting it good and hot as you tie off the horse.

When the blade is glowing red, you quickly and carefully slap it over the current brand, burning it away and making it next to impossible to tell who's horse it really is.

As you break the seal on the letter you get the faintest whiff of something strange, and pungently good. Inside is a small clipping of a plant.

    Dearest Bulger:
contained herein is a sample of something the Elves of Qualni have brought from the south. They say it makes even the most foul of meat taste as if prepared by a master chef. I wish for you grow as much as you can. Gingerly you plant the few seed you have over the body of the courier. hoping that perhaps his body will help them grow.

you throw on a pair of pants, and hop on the horse, though its been many a year since you've rode one you still know the basics. you've also wrapped the breastplate and sword in some rags and stuffed a few coins into a pocket. With a piece of wheat straw in your mouth you click the reins and begin the short journey into town. Looking for an axe a plow and possibly a good horse.

Following your stomach and that nagging sensation that maybe you should avoid anything public till you can find a way to get rid of the obvious murder weapon/armor.

You head to the dancing goat, a pleasent little in that's known for its stews, meads and women. as your saunter into the tavern you remember many a day spent as a young man here getting drunk only to wake up, stumble back home and get ready for another day of work.

Inside it is packed to capacity. Travelers from all over the province have arrived with the tents it would seem. many of which give you a cautious eye. It would seem its not exactly a fair day in Glacue.

"how can I help you?" A pretty young lass asks as she rushes by carrying a platter of freshly carved pork, jellied fruits and a pitcher of mead, rushing to a nearby table to attend to several men dressed similarly to the rider you recently slaughtered like a pig.

I am reminded of EVO quest's bloodlustfag. Probably his theory is more likely caused by some anons' attempt to quickly quash a quest either by disgusting the OPs to quit or shouting railroading if a subsequent high roll on a bloodthirsty post is ignored.

    Just some thoughts.

Also, no real idea on farming. My general knowledge is only from Harvest Moon while my practical knowledge is from growing bean sprouts on wet cotton and tossing chili seeds on the ground.

I'm guessing sooner or later snot-nosed adventurers would come to look for the missing messenger, and hey, new fertilizers! And then we're the lich that farmed... And brewed, I guess.

Munching on a loaf of bread you set out into town to locate the blacksmith, riding your horse with all the fanfare of an old man with nothing better to do.

you find him readily, mostly due to the constant sound of hammers hitting metal. He's a burly half dwarf by the name Clagnog, a devout believer in the god of all that glitters he happily sets his men to work on forging a a new Hoe, Axe and a plow costing you a total of three gold coins.

The stable master it seems is out however. His apprentice does inform you that the horse you have is of fine breeding and is worth far more than any mere draft animal. Suggesting that perhaps you should sell it for coin instead...

Standing off to one side, giving you the evil eye is what appears to be a far better off man of the field and...an elf. not just a normal elf but an elf from the south, a citified well learned type. Upon his shoulder is a Single silver oak leaf denoting his right to claim to be of the 'greenmen'

You ask Clagnog about his orders for weapons. Istaan may be stockpiling for the coming war.

You express to Clagnog that we need to corner the market in Baresti and in our local kingdom for wheat and arms. Then during the coming war we can profit either way. If we can get Clagnog and the other blacksmiths of the blacksmith guild as well as the farmers to participate we can all profit immensely.

(Wondering if Istaan has need of a lot of weapons for his campaign in Baresti.)

You make your way back to the blacksmith. inquiring into weapons orders. Clagnog raises an eyebrow as to why a mere farmer would be asking but nods wisely all the same mentioning there may have been an off hand request for a order of pole axes and the like to be sent to Istavaan's castle. Of course he'd have to be 'reminded' a bit more outside of that.

He also mentions that if you need a wagon he's got one for sale for a gold coin, though you'd need a draft team to pull it.

As for some new duds you hit up the local seamstress a young woman of the name Margarit. she's a pretty little thing though sadly has a husband. for a few coins she's able to get you dressed up in a rather nice linen tunic, new pants and a good warm cloak. she's also proffered you a rather large comfortable hat that has a wide brim to keep the rain off.

It all together costs a silver coin. You've also not have the coins tucked inside your shirt.

You head out to the tents, dressed dashingly and hard to see, save for your glorious beard. Pushing through the crow you notice more and more that the people who have come here are not local. In fact it seems that they've come from far and wide. you've even seen some of the strange white haired Talnessi of the far north.

the town square is cleared, surrounded on all sides by tents. In this open space is a long figure. The elf from before, he seems to have removed his clothes save a pair of loose pants. all around you are the gentry that you've been meagerly competing with. their eyes glued to whatever may happen before them.

with a Bellow of rage the elf begins his....something? he moves in a steady rhythm feet stamping and arms waving as he moves gracefully around the cleared area. At first, nothing seems to be happening save this screaming, dancing elf and then you begin to feel it, see it, hear it and taste it. The ground where his feet land seems to be changing, turning into lush grassy field where before there was little more than stone.

The smell of spring enters your nose and you can hear a wind gently stirring though the town. The gentry nod, slowly clapping as the elf somehow changes what had been a square of paved stone into a lush green.

It is a very commo form of financing in the modern day. Farmers pool together their resources to get productive benefits (stordriftsfordele). In these primitive times, being BIG is just INSANELY good. If we can finance a collective farm (by buying it off the lord), we can earn a shitload by effectively cutting work in half, while having to spend less money on assets.

Of course, we would have the majority vote, since we would own the majority of this newfangled company...

Another Dane here, though our language is strange, it is not unGoogleable, so I Googled "Andelsvirksomhed wiki" and was brought to the danish wikipedia side for "Andelsbevægelse" which had a link to the English Wikipedia page.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_cooperative_movement

Basically "Andel" means "Share" or "Part", like:
"If we share this, you get your part."

However the concept the other guy explains it as is a bit incorrect, unlike an "Aktieselskab" (Joint-Stock company) every member has one vote, so even if we owned 50% of our Andelsselskab (I'll use the Danish word to cause more confusion) we would still only have one vote, while the bumfuck who owns 0.01% too has one vote.

So basically a typical Andelsselskab would fuck us over. We need to make a more modern Andelsselskab which is more similar to an Aktieselskab (Joint-Stock company) where the majority owner gets the majority vote.

Just make sure that we never own less than 51% of the "company", because as long as we own that, the rest of the owners can not outvote us and we are the absolute leaders of it.

Why would we need the support of other farmers IF we can do it without their support?

We need to hire a bunch of farmhands or apprentices to help us, then expand our farm and take over the other farms, employing mob methods if we have to, not being afraid of striking them with our hoes if we have to.

To the guard: "Ahh, ain't a problem, misser. I think th' poor fella had one too many ales, if yeh catch m' drift. . .my apologies for any trouble caused."

While we wait for the rain to die down, I suggest we spend some time here. First of all, pick up the sword and go and place it out in the wagon (it's probably unsettling some of the folk in here.) Then we should promptly spend our time in the inn with our future waifu getting to know her-- perhaps call her over for a minute when she's free or go and hover around the bar and ask whenever she passes.
Questions to ask (in this order):
    1. If she is okay after the shaky events
    2. Her name
    3. Who the man who tried to stab us was
    4. If she enjoys working at the inn.

    The guard nods.

"all the same, he ain't no good out and about when he's drunk. He'll be in the jail for a little while tis all."

As you sit around in the bar, sword and breastplate not tucked at the bottom of the wagon where no one can see them. You've started chatting up your possible wife. She's more than happy to sit and chat though it would seem such a swashbuckling farmer has drawn patrons back to the inn like flies to shit. And as such she's only able to talk to you in passing. She does enjoy the work though she would prefer to settle down eventually like any good modern woman, and though she was a little shook up about the events the fact that you managed to come in and save the day, certainly makes it far from a bad end to things. As this is being said the rain has slowly let off, just in time for a dazzling sunset upon the steadily greening village.

Seriously, lose the sword and breastplate already.

Excuse yourself to go bury it or something. Who knows, the time may come later you'll need it for a disguise or passage or something.

Just get it far away from yourself, seriously.

You excuse yourself for a few minutes grabbing the sword and breastplate. Carefully and quietly you make your way around to the back of the inn. There you use your new hoe to dig up a portion of the soft, rain soaked ground and place them weapon and its partner within. Burying them and tamping down the earth to avoid more suspicion than you've already drawn.

As you settle back down inside the inn you breathe a sigh of relief and take in the warm smokey air as a fire crackles off to one side and darkness settles over the village.

If you mean us the one for the better house we are planning to build, then two stories, made with stone and wood, with the animals and fireplace down and the beds and food (grain/meat) upside. Hole over the fireplace for smoke. Simple wooden stair which is upped when sleeping. Door opens to the inside and can be locked using a board.

With a few kind words you set out once more for your home. You do note that the two hairy cows you have, are in fact a breeding pair. A good sign one would think. You steady pace is relaxing, the cattle need little in the way of goading or steering seemingly knowing where you want to go.

you did leave the flowers at the table with a hasty scrawled word of thanks and wishing to see such a fine young woman again.

Something is certainly out there though what or who it might be is very hard to say. The moon passes behind clouds and once more thunder threatens to in the distance to bring forth more rain.
