because it is a random event. If you had stuck around long enough, or if the death/time rate went down then he would disappear again. Special characters can't actually die I don't think, but don't last for ever either. Each one has different conditions and different effects, kharn is a boring one though he just kills stuff and thats all. You can look up a big chart of special characters on the game wiki.

Alright folks. I will try to make this happen. I will be using python and the pygame module. I expect any early versions to have very little prettiness (maybe a map of the sector, with highlighted colors for events). It will mostly be text based for events. However, I have only recently gotten into the hobby. This thread (and the prior one, which I would need to find) had some good ideas. But I need people to come up with fluff and mechanics ideas.

Note that this will take awhile. I am working on a PhD at the moment, so I will have ebbing and flowing work. Once I have something running, I will share it so that people can offer suggestions and ideas.

I like the idea of getting three options when you start. Either:
    >Random Chapter: Generates completely new chapter for you. Allows you to change basic stuff (name and livery)
    >Choose Chapter: Pre-generated chapters. All the big canon ones should be included here.
    >Create Chapter: Allows you to create a chapter, hands on. No idea how this would work. Maybe Rites of Battle rules?

Artifacts are not sacred in nature. There's a chance they're alien. Have your tech-priests examine it, it might also be archaeotech or just something rare like a cache of plasma grenades. If it's alien, gift it to the Inquisition *before* they find out about it on their own.

When comandeering a ship, I sent what I considered an "overkill" strike force. Besides, I have 7 ships in my fleet, which need to be maintained, defended, and most importantly, piloted. If I lose any more orks, I'm going to have to abandon a ship somewhere, and if I lose another strike team that size, I'll be too crippled for the rest of the game to accomplish anything meaningful, unless I happen upon some clan of orks I can crush and enslave.

She said that a few miles nort there is a village controled by four marauders clans, each one worshipping one chaos god. They have random battles and skimish, making the local enslaved population suffer.

She said that the convent isn't enouth supplied to fight them and she hate to ask a xeno to do the inquisition job, but if we complete the quest she said that the emperor would forgive our xeno sins.

Well, i accepted just for the exp reward, even if i can't see any loot.

Well, is time to level up with 2 perk points, i guess you know what are the level 2 perks, but i'm interested in two especially: Savage survival, that allow me to skin anything for leather and trophies, and Da way of da lootah, that unlocks the ability to do weaponry and armory with loot.

I fucking love the Chaos expansion.

    A couple hours ago:
    >be controlling a sizeable warband, including a fair amount of Berzerkers and Terminators
    >acquire a daemonhost - Acrivus, a twice-bound relatively normal looking "guy" - from another warband
    >invade an agri-world with paltry defenses for the food and slaves
"A force of Dark Eldar has appeared!"
    >Ohshit
    >pull my forces out, about to jump into the warp
    >Wait, where's my daemonhost?
"Acrivus has been captured by the Kabal of the Tainted Heart."
    >FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

    Then just now-ish:
"The Kabal of the Tainted Heart has been destroyed."
    >wut
    >check history log
    >turns out they didn't know he was a daemonhost
    >mfw they were wiped out by Vect for taking a daemon into Commorragh

Absolutely. In hindsight, the techmarine pad needs a little more shading on the opus machina, the commander pad could be touched up a bit, and for god's sake get it off that white background. Something neutral might look good.

The white parts in the center of the pad can have a chapter color laid over them at some level of transparency.

You should also set up a donation fund we can use to hire a programmer while you're at it.

Because we aren't making this without one, and ones that work for free tend not to work much once the excitement's worn off.
    >> Anonymous 10/03/11(Mon)17:48 No.16509205
    >>16509128
Also, based on my experience modding Space Hulk/ Alien Assault, what is really needed is a part of the program that can recolor the trim and inserts of the pads by itself, then superimpose markings and honors. If the project were to take off, I'd work on all those separate components and leave sorting the program out to someone else.

I'm also imagining that on the "actual" Ultramarines sidebar, first company would have a red exclamation point over it for understrength. Things like that need to be thought out.

Clicking a company or department would bring up a squads and officers panel, which would normally look like eleven back banners- one for each squad, one for the captain.
The Armory would have Master of the Forge and probably some tank commander rank like Spear of Maccragge or whatever Kronus is, and then the vehicle banners (As shown in Codex Ultramarines 2e) for each.

On tactical companies, each banner would have indicators to show whether or not the squad could be mounted on bikes or speeders, or whether an APC was attached.

Clicking a banner brings up the squad; a line of ten shoulder pads with squad marking and some decorations. Red skull on the sergeant, red halo on the combat squad leader if it's a codex chapter.

    Blah blah blah.

That was kind of my point. If programmers are actually going to DO shit, it would be nice to keep their work around and publicly visible so that we don't lose it once they quit. I'd donate my meager skills, but I'm already overstretched with work/personal projects. That said, I'd probably chip in some patches and features if I could submit my code easily

For the Create Chapter thing, use the Rites of Battle generator. It's solid.

    >Crowns

Should be Thrones, or even MegaThrones (= 1000 thrones) to represent that a Chapter Master has a shitload of cash to toss around.

Another resource unit that has been established is Renown, a measure of reputation. It works the way Renown works in Deathwatch, in allowing you access to restricted items, relics, assistance from other factions and other stuff that money can't buy.

Thrones are canonically the Calixis general term for currency, not galactic. Even in Calixis, Thrones are just an exchange measure, and there isn't one standard Calixis Throne Gelt, each version varies by world. Imperial Credits have been mentioned more often in more parts of the galaxy.

    Events: A more general format.

    * [planet] in [sector] is under attack by [enemy]! [faction] is requesting assistance!

    * The commander of [faction] is requesting your aid in a campaign against [enemy] in [sector]. Do you wish to grant an audience?

    * Strategic prognostication and reading the Emperor's Tarot indicates (one of) the following:

** You will require the assistance of [faction] over the coming cycle.

** During the following cycle, it will be advantageous to ally with [faction].

** You will stand against [enemy] in [sector]. Be prepared!

** Strange flows within the Warp point towards [system] in [sector]. Who knows what one might find there?

Also, a general suggestion: I think it would be great to use an "adviser/council" thing, similar to King of Dragon Pass and Sim City, where you have a council of advisers that offer opinions on events. The council would consist of company captains, the chief librarian, the master of the forge and so on. Each would have their own perspective on what to do and how.

OP here, I would make a donations page to start collecting to hire programmers, but
    1. no one would donate more than a few dollars and we would never get enough money to pay even one wage
    2. no one would donate in the first place until a certain amount of work had already been done

So I think we should set up a server that can support uploading open source and submission system, a forum and whatever else we need.
    >> Pauldron Guy 10/03/11(Mon)20:27 No.16510755
I wouldn't put any wargame elements in it at all, except for force placement. The resolution would be randomized. Each leader would have a personality and issue orders (Charge, Hold, Hide, Advance, Retreat, Ambush) accordingly, and the results would be worked out by comparing the chosen strategies and each force's suitability to that strategy.

Also, all these stories make me imagine the game being more Rogue Trader era in style for some reason. Maybe because I liked Ian Watson's Space Marine (very dorf fortressy at points, now that I think about it. "Lexandro has been seized by an odd mood! Lexandro wants a scrimshawing kit! Lexandro has sealed himself in the Laboratory!").

What about fleet warfare and fleets jumping in and out of warp...wouldnt there be some ships lost or an entire chapter or crusade itself lost, and Space Hulk events, rebellion event, crisis of faith, false prophet, a new race? A new world, outer colonial worlds, rebel inquisitors, assasinations, pissed of an inquisitor on a mission long ago; sends a vindicare to kill you. Can you be something other than Chapter Master? Can you be a Rogue Trader? An Administratum Sector Magistrate? Frontline Field General/Commander of an Inmperial battleforce? Colonial COmmander? Mechanicum Explorator?
