So time to go to that crusade I was supposed to be on?
    >NOPE.JPG
Horatio has other ideas. He'd fought the warboss in the fight, and killed him, but then got his face kicked in by a nob. The battle was over and he survived because he was stupidly tough, but ended up with a vandetta.
    > Horatio demands the chapter goes after Skabrot Wazzagit or he'll chase him down solo.
I figure it'll be quick, and the chapter's might will mean that a full frontal charge will work, as opposed to Horatio challenging him to single combat in the middle of the ork camp or something. Plus, while we're finding the fucker, he can teach his protogee some of his cool tricks.
    >FUCK THAT! Horatio decides he knows better.
    > Horatio passes on the To The Death trait.
Time for me to groom another candidate. Oh, wait, not now. Found the orks.

Guys, my starting Warboss Fungface was finally killed in battle and I'm needing to choose an heir to his position.
I have Stormboy Nob Da Fureh with Relic Flamer, Loves Ta' Fight and Bad Temper traits and low Karizma but his combat stats are great.
Big Mek Stuttmun, I sorta want him so I can actually choose research but his stats are horrible and he has Forgetful and Loud Git traits and I don't really want to groom the next heir after him to have those.

The last one is this Kommando I picked up during a mission but I think the boyz will revolt as soon as I put him as Warboss and he's Snakebite but all his traits. He's got Ded Cunnin', Anuvva Go, and if I can get him out of Snakebite I can activate his Greedy trait.

    Which one, /tg/?

End up forgetting about the crusade, and keep getting sidetracked. Horatio refuses to teach anything but the most retarded tactical doctrine. Chapter keeps getting blasted to bits, but recruitment is crazy good. Horatio refuses to die. Eventually end up turning up to that crusade, it's all but over, we've kicked serious ass. The guy in charge is some tactical genius type, got his masterstoke planned. Didn't know the AI could do that (turns out they can't, but it being set up like this is a prescripted event). All that prestige suddenly puts Horatio in charge. Charge being the operative word in this case.
    >Horatio follows the plan
    Wut? No stupid charge? Why?
    >Plan calls for leader to suicide charge as bait.
    >Leader picked because no-one volunteered when plan was made.
    >The other chapter master had no points in bravery or any combat skills. Only in charge because he got lucky, and his tactical skills were magical good.
Clearly this was all part of his plan.
In the charge, Horatio somehow survives.
    >Betrayal! Krom Calgar (the tactical genius) has betrayed you.
    Bastard kills Horatio with poison.
I'm *this* close to savescumming, go to finish the chain of events then reload.
His latest protogee he's been grooming steps up, singlehandedly fights his way through Krom's guard of elite vets, and hammers the bastard's face in. Then takes the name of the old chapter master. Takes all of the other chapter's stuff for our own. Takes so much prestige, since he's the highest ranked commander left so he gets the prestige for the crusade. . .

I KNEW I had to ally with them as soon as I met them, but alas, the Inquisition never approves of my forward thinking...

    Then, you have sliders, like

Every time you slide over to codex it limits your army size and other shit, but you gain... idk what.
If you go non codex, you get higher limits, but there are possible random events: The inquisition examines your chapter...

Playing some undivided, just got my first Kharn event. Was sieging an imperial hive, and had a squad of Alpha Legion assigned to find a way to sneak into the hive. They find a way through the sewers, that leads them to the opposite side of the hive from my warhost. Perfect opportunity. I tell the Alphas to go do what they do best, and send a squad of berserkers to serve as a distraction. Can't send new orders to Alphas once they're infiltrated, and I wasn't expecting the berserkers to do anything but provide a distraction for the Alphas for the turn or two until they die, so I went back to monitoring the siege.

A few turns later, I notice that not only are the berserkers not dead, they're heading straight for the front gates that I have under siege. My squad of Alphas haven't made contact yet, so I don't have any active intelligence on events in the hive outside of the section I'm sieging. Finally the berserkers reach the siege, and it's motherfucking Kharn, killing everything in his path. He cuts a bloody swath through the defenders, smashes open the main gate, and proceeds straight through the bulk of my forces, inflicting more casualties than I'd taken from the entire rest of the siege. Even with the losses he'd inflicted, taking the hive was piss-easy with the gates open.

    Hell of a guy.

but the purge mechanic is fucking horrible. Unless you have an extremely high skill chaplain on hand you'll have to bring in an outside inquisitor. Those guys kill 25% more marines, on average, than there are traitors in my chapter.

I've done it twice and each time it took maybe 54 years in order to gain a semblance of my previous numbers.

I guess they made that mechanic fluff-accurate at least.
    >> Anonymous 09/30/11(Fri)17:57 No.16477637
All you guys whining about Alpha legion infiltrators should give the Chaos side of the Sabbat Crusade expansion a try. Seriously, what in the fuck? It's like a litany of bullshit and it was written for me personally.
My Anarch gets ambushed and whacked right at the start. One of my best generals manages to cause a insurrection on a world and despite outnumbering his foe in every single way somehow fucks up and dies. I almost have the Imperial crusade cut in two and suddenly a "Imperial Saint appears!". You'd think the best assassins in the sector could pull it off but it's a complete mission failure. Yet when I capture a enemy general as a potential defector he dies at the first assassination attempt. It's like every time I'm about to win someone just happens to be in the right place and the right time to ruin me.

Some specific summons are terribad broken. Doom Rider for some ungodly reason had a tripled fear-causing range.

Also, I forget which Nurgle summon it was, but one of them will create a birthing machine of nurglings, which will then cause a stack-overrun error and kill the game.

Did you download the latest patch? They nerfed the fuck out of Summon, because there was a bug in the script that caused the player to get much better Summons than they were supposed to much more often. On the other side of the coin, the patch fixes Berserker A.I. issues, so I downloaded it.
Now the fuckers actually target infantry rather than just going for vehicles.

Depending on how many points you dump into the apothicary, the best you can get is a 75+ bonus to that roll (Which the computer fucking cheats at anyways)

They dont offer aid to you unless they are right there, their rewards for helping them are minimal and if you see something you shouldnt have, you have to ride out an investigation to see if your chapters been tainted.

Dunno about that man, i've gotten some really choice missions, and my veterans are really benefitting from the experience.

The thing is, sending them small squads of PROVEN troops.

Their will SHOULD be high enough to avoid corruption, and at the end of it, they should be badasses.

If they ask for your help that requires more than company strength.... well you gotta weigh the risks.

Last Malleus mission gifted a Daemon Hammer to my 1st Company captain, and earned them the Moniker Daemon Bane.

    It helps in negotiations. Hahaha

Was serving with the Black Templars in a protracted siege of Chaos Renegades.

They got on my case about my Librarians.

And later I got an inquisitorial visit. Nothing happened, but hey, cant please everyone.

Tip: Only pay attention to what the Inquisitors and Ultramarines say. As long as the Inquisitors think you're above-water, let those Black Templars call you out. It doesn't waste any of your Prestige when you pass inspection, and eventually you'll have such a clean record that they will actually help you out.

To elaborate, the game is actually rigged that random allies will call down inquisitors on you, which is good, because passing Inquisition inspection is a really easy way to boost prestige. I had one game where I kept tweaking the chapter next door with something about my supply lines, then fixing it as soon as the inquisition showed up. I basically mined Prestige from them, and later on when the fucking Necrons erupted from under me after I'd just beaten the orcs, a few legions of Inquisibros showed up and flanked them for me.

It is pretty hard to determine if an action is 'codex-safe' or not, because it must be a bitch to write algorithms for that. One thing I've found is that if I keep a small segment of my main force, say a fourth or a fifth or so, and steadily stream units from that towards a minor objective point, it sees that I'm charging constantly, and I get breaks on some of the Creed-tacular bullshit that I occasionally have to pull. I take pretty heavy casualties in that section, but it's worth it to get gifted terminator armor and bolter upgrades/repairs.
