    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16379670/

Our forces on Gamma Dorian huddle at the surface, between the mouth of the tunnels we dug and the entrances to the Terran complex. We don't know if they're infected with...whatever Kingston has released.

We have quarantined the world. The overlords are not leaving the atmosphere, and they're not carrying any potentially-infected Zerg. Nobody in. Nobody out.

It's been forty-five minutes since we lost contact with the Zerg in Kingston's lab. There's been nothing but the humming of the facility's air scrubbers, pumping air for the dead Terrans.

Raynor has regained consciousness. He has not attempted to break our hold on his mind, again.

Send in a single zergling wearing a hazmat suit, with a nuke set to allow us to remote detonate, and a camera.

Since I dislike nuke from orbit, but agree that its the only way to be sure.

Do we have any functional Terminators? I recall that we might've began production of a handful of them before. If we have any, get them down on the ground right away.

In the meantime, assemble some infested marines/firebats/whatever with intact armor/powersuits. Or SCVs. Or all of them, whatever we have on hand. Those suits are meant to handle hard vacuum, they should be able to defeat any airborne pathogen so long as the infested terrans inside use their suit's oxygen stores instead of the ambient air.

We never built androids, as we would have had no direct link to them (at best, we would have been dependent on Cyberbrate) and they were very expensive.

We have a contingent of ghosts (who are not vacuum-ready), as well as hydralisks and zerglings.

(Good job. Prompt service. I like it)

Our Kingston lookalike robot is suited up with a very large gun and some grenades. Labbrate sets up a very nice digital projection set for the holo feed Cyberbrate is receiving from the unit during its trip to Gamma Dorian.

Its dropship careens into the atmosphere, the flames of reentry licking at its surface. It comes around to the landing site, just meters away from one of our tunnels. The ship, having been piloted by the android, sets down and deactivates. The figure stepping out is almost a perfect duplicate of the man in the lab below. It begins the trek downward, through our tunnels, and into the Bunker level of the underground facility.

The first thing we notice is that the bodies are gone. Both Zerg and Terran, the corpses of our fight to Kingston's lab are missing. In some places, there are large streaks of blood leading toward the center of the facility. Toward the lab.

The dull thump of the machine's feet is the only active sound as it continues inward, accompanied by the faint background noises: the blinking of damaged lights, the light sizzle of arcing electricity in broken circuits, and the humming of the fans bringing air that our machine does not breathe.

It approaches the blast door to the lab, and finds it resealed. If it was simple to break the code before, breaking it with a machine's finesse will be even simpler.

The door rolls open slowly, revealing something...new.

Strewn about the room are bodies, both Zerg and Terran. Most are not moving. Some twitch or writhe, and there are two Zerglings dragging the lifeless ones to the center of the room. There is what appears to be a human brain almost two meters tall. It pulses and shudders as if unused to life. Where the brain stem would lead to a body, part of what appears to be a medical intensive care chamber is visible. Labbrate postulates that the machine is feeding the thing vital nutrients while it develops a working biology.

Kingston is nowhere to be seen. Nothing has visibly responded to our robot's arrival.

Kerrigan's been a 5.0 - 7.5 on a scale of 10 on the alliance list. She was very wary of us after we discovered her after the death of the Overmind on Aiur. BUT, she calmed down once we showed her that we weren't aiming to take over her brain and become the new Overmind by freaking her right the hell out with a rousing musical produced by our very own Artisanlord.

Thus far, she doesn't consider us a true threat. This is probably due to the fact that she thinks we have space aspergers.

The Kingstonator steps lightly over the bodies, staying out of the way of the Zerglings. It sits lightly at one of the terminals with power, and begins browsing files. Labbrate and Cyberbrate collaborate to move through the file system. From the files, it appears that Kingston personally took control of a research team's efforts to understand captured samples of our infestation viruses weeks ago. Immediately, the project showed extreme progress. In short order, parts of captured Zerg DNA were also analyzed, and the focus moved from study to controlled replication.

According to the most recent logs, the new virus was completed by Kingston himself hours before Raynor's fleet arrived. After that, there is obvious evidence that the files have been tampered with and deleted. Almost all of the actual laboratory data is gone.

Thus begins our effort to create an elegant language to negotiate with Kingstonbrain. It will consist of hundreds of metal slugs fired at supersonic speeds via magnetic acceleration that will tear through the brainy parts. Whether Kingstonbrain can survive such a traumatic syntax will have to be tested rigorously in a scientific manner. Might as well start now.

Despite the lack of hard data, the logs showed no sign that this...mass...was ever part of the plan. We doubt it's a trap. Labbrate wonders if Kingston might have lost control, and become some sort of feral proto-cerebrate.

Either way, the carefully-placed grenade destroys the creature's life support. Immediately, and unsurprisingly, the Zerglings turn on the android. Cyberbrate guides the machine's hands as it fires at the rival Zerg, but we notice with some trepidation that the bodies on the floor, Zerg and Terran, are getting up. They all appear to be covered in lesions and only mostly recovered from their wounds, but they are advancing on the Kingston Butler. Cyberbrate orders it to retreat. The advancing group immediately breaks off a small band around a corridor that will allow them to head the machine off before it can reach the tunnel which is used to reach the facility, so Cyberbrate directs it toward the facility's actual structures. The stairs will work as fine as a tunnel.

Meanwhile, we reach out with our thoughts, and feel the brain's psionic signature. It pulses to a sickeningly familiar beat. We attempt to wrap our consciousness around it, but run across what feel like tethers, and it begins to press back against us as Kingston's voice echoes into our thoughts:

"Now, now, Cerebrate. I'll have none of that. You're being very, very rude. You burst into my home, murder my fellows, and now you want to steal my Big Brain? Unacceptable."

Immediately, our units on the surface become hazy, dizzy, and finally, they blink out of our thoughts entirely.

From orbit, we watch as they load into the overlords, and begin to leave the atmosphere.

Raynor mobilizes the battlecruiser to begin firing on the overlords as Toaster readies missiles on Nuke World. The lost Zerg spread out, making themselves as hard to hit as possible. The dropship on the surface fires up and begins making for the sky just as the missiles arrive.

We feel a shudder of backlash as the explosions rip through the facility, then across the countryside, the forests, oceans, the polar ice caps, and back. Just ahead of the blasts, the dropship screams free of the atmosphere. It is severely damaged, but still flying.

Didn't we give the Overmind a Khaydarin crystal a while back? If I remember correctly, he sorta munched on and said "hopy shit there's this place called Aiur with lots of these Protoss and crystals and we need to get there NOW". If that same crystal is still intact, it might have enough of a psionic imprint to bring back the Overmind.

Kerrigan is happy that we have wiped up our mess with Kingston. She is establishing a nice nest on Umoja, and just wants us to keep any planet-destroying forces away from her for a while.

The protoss don't care about Kingston as a person. The surrender of the humans in the sector to us they might, but I'd rather not tell them. If they attack our terran holding we use it as the grounds for war without coming across as backstabbing warmongers, remember we now have to keep the Morian Republic full of bread and circuses.

We probably shouldn't broach the subject of the Resurrection Crystals with them. Remember, we are not in a formal alliance with them, we've only agreed to not kill each other. I'd imagine that it's very difficult for even your average Protoss hierarchs to get within spitting distance of those things.

After adding a few embellishments to its pauldrons (we wouldn't want to look stagnant), we send Pauldronlisk into Dapperjunior (with a new dozen-sleeved jacket), and toward Aiur.

The greeting is confused, and a bit angry, but not immediately violent. We announce our desire to speak with the Primarch. They put us on hold to confer.

It suddenly occurs to us that we haven't decided exactly what we want to say...

Looking to establish a treaty to create broadcast stations, a system of payment, and lay down some MPAA-type laws that prevent Protoss from just torrenting ZergTV via their psychic mind links.

Well, there are a few things that we can speak about:

-How are the Jael'aten faring? Are they doing OK with the whole re-integration into Protoss society thing?

-Kingston is dead. He was leader of the Terrans, and according to the Terrans, he was said to have committed a massive amount of resources to destroying Protoss holdings recently. We hunted him down and killed him.

-Also, Kingston was found attempting to create some sort of horrific human/zerg hybrid. No, it's not the same as an infested terran. It could grab control of weakened Zerg and Terran units. Give the Protoss censored data found in the Lab's databanks to back up our claims.

Tassadar comes over the comm system.

"Primarch Khas is currently concerned with matters of the reconstruction of an Empire. What is it you need, Cerebrate?"

We inform it of the Terrans' unification and relative pacification. We casually mention that we prevented their leader from becoming a Zerg-like entity that would likely have consumed the Terrans and then turned on the Protoss. You remember what he did to Shakuras, don't you? Monstrous.

"That is all well and good, Cerebrate, though I do not see how it warrants a personal visit to the Primarch."

We also ask about setting up ZergTV stations in Protoss space. We promise to stay out of the business of the Protoss Empire. We would just like to provide a service, really!

"Absolutely not! I will not have Zerg propaganda beamed into the minds of my people. For all I know, you can assimilate people through this...ZergTV. The answer is no. Is there anything else?"

We should use our newfound time of peace to spam massive colonisation waves. Focus on the worlds surrounding Aiur first.
We need to colonise the everloving hell out of everything before the Protoss can.

I'm tempted to include a subtle and short off-handed comment about the Protoss unity thing. You know, sacrificing the self for the greater cause and marching in perfect lockstep. That type of single-mindedness would make a Zerg jealous.

Just a tiny side-comment as we're disengaging hailing frequencies or whatnot to make Tassadar think a bit on the whole Khas resurrection thing. Nothing really egregious, something that Tassadar might dismiss as a nonsense comment at first, but dwell on it later.

Now that the Terrans are no longer an active threat, Colonylord is to begin a massive new Colonization Wave. Defensebrate and Citybrate are to select another hidden fallback planet, and begin it's growth.
Cyberbrate is to continue repairing itself, make us a Kingston Butler Mk 2, and go over the AI neural net processor used in their construction to make sure that if they were to independently operate, that there are no hidden VoidGate protocols.
The android has shown that in certain cases, a metal machine can do a job better than a Zerg. And since we have Dyles to worry about, a machine that cannot be infected by a neural parasite is something we should have a few of prepared.

On Tarsonis, get that BBQ cookout at the Kingston family home prepared.

And finally, Jimmy. Oh, Jimmy. First, get him a crate of whiskey. Then ask him, what plans he has for the future, if he were independent. I'm actually considering cutting him loose after the BBQ. He's done his job, and done it well.

Cyberbrate needs to have the same manufacturing capabilities of ourselves, so we need to design new factories capable of churning out machine-based zerg-type units, non-infiltrator when it comes to the zerg, but any other species will be fooled.

Why? More redundancy, and a second frontier of units.

    Okay then.
Now, this adventure taught us the value of biological warfare and associated countermeasures, which will be useful in fighting the Dyles worms.
Purely mechanical units are nice, but EMP and other such SCIENCE interference can be annoying, so we need HAZMATlisks.
