The last one auto-saged, so we're back to revive it. Last we were watching our Iwagakure targets apparently were preyed upon by these five black-clothed shinobi who seem to project auras of menace. We were captured in a two-eyed Sharingan Genjutsu, but thankfully we were freed by our commander, Yuki. Now, safely close to our team again, we are sizing up our foes as they observe and monitor us.

As she said, our first job should be to eliminate the enemy sensor. Can we detect who it is?

Yuki's features go sharper and more pale as she calls everyone to be sharp. Kisame's joking demeanor falls slightly as he grips the handle of Samehada, "Ok....I don't know who these guys are, but from their chakra they're extremely dangerous. We should be on our toes, but attacking would be suicide. You got lucky, Shimaru." She said as Kaji spoke, "If I shunshin up on them, I may be able to get a Genjutsu on them." He said, but was instantly cut down by Yuki.

"My Hidden Mist can blind the Sharingan-user. It's not much, but it could let you sneak up on them."

We have this tactical battlenet genjutsu thing, right? Would we be able to guide Yuki, Kaji, and Kisame on where the enemy is inside the mist using our Eyes in the Mist ability?

    >>16404993
We could create 5 water clones and have them spread out and dump their chakra into creating a massive Hidden Mist jutsu to blanket the entire battlefield. We won't have much chakra left, but that's why Kisame is the range specialist and we're melee.
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)00:35 No.16405076
    >>16404993
We could indeed do that. Kisame can move through it just fine, as Samehada can smell out chakra. However, you can guide your other friends through it, they'll take a -1 penalty because of having to follow your words, then act on them. Also, how do you plan to perpetuate the mist?

Once the Hidden Mist is created, the clones could help by firing off Iron Wind jutsu's at targets right before the others attack, creating openings.

So it shall be. You summon up your clones and send them out in erratic angles, irregular positioning, and at varying speeds to try and get close to them. One of the men, with the black mop of hair, makes hand signs too fast for you to see before firing five darts of fire and knocking your clones backwards, killing two of them in the process of the shots. The three survivors stand up and cast the mist, managing to capture your team as well as theirs. "Good job, kohai." Kisame says, using the term for a younger student. With your mist in place he draws out the Samehada and moves up to stand beside you, "We need to put pressure on them, but I'm hesitant to approach." Yuki gives the go ahead, Kaji keeping behind you guys to try and bail you out. And with that Kisame rushes forward, Kaji in tow. Kaji encourages you to follow and soon you are at the base of the rock formation, charging up at them, Kisame's blade out and ready to absorb any inbound ninjutsu. Two of the figures leap away, one on either side of you. One is the man with the silver hair, the other the man with the mop of dark hair, leaving just the three others waiting. The ponytailed man drops to his knee and puts his hands together, a tendril of shadow reaching up in front of him and stabbing out at Kaji, avoiding both you and Kisame's blade. Kaji jumps backwards but finds his body frozen as another shadow was waiting to merge with his, given length by your charge and the positioning of the other two men. Kaji frozen he tries to call out for help, Kisame raising his sword but being frozen solid by the blond man who makes a strange sign before Kisame turns and says, "Kohai, watch out. I can't control my body!" He said, the blade raising up to smash down on you.

"Return!" The word breaks the veil of the moment and all three of you are standing in front of Yuki, who used a space-time ninjutsu to bring you all back to her, using Kaji's mark as a focal point. She puts her hand on Kisame's forehead and releases him from the Mind-control technique. "They are deadly." She warns and the two men who are now on the water level produce a handful of shuriken, each of them ready to throw, but waiting.

    Okay, wow.
Fighting against a coordinated Jonin team is brutal.
    We need to think quickly.
Guy and Kakashi are probably ready to attack us with shuriken as soon as we make a move. Do a quick scan through the mist and make sure that he hasn't created any shadow clones.

How are we going to get past Shika and Ino?
    >> Anonymous 09/24/11(Sat)01:21 No.16405461
Since we do have those two water scrolls and we're semi-decent and using the water dragon- Could we use water dragon right out of the scrolls? One at a time of course but is it possible, or would we have to store pre-casted water dragons in scrolls beforehand? It'd be nice to blast the ones that don't appear to be taijutsu oriented.

The storage scrolls are currently empty, since we wanted to have them around to store any kekkei genkai we loot from fallen shinobi.

As for water, Kisame pretty much made a small lake so we have all the water we could need.

We have 3 clones left that could do Water Dragon jutsu along with us. Who would we target?

It is difficult to say. Despite the mist they've been able to act with ample coordination, leading you to believe either they can all track chakra, which would be the worst situation, that they are just getting lucky, the best, or that they're using some means of doing what you are doing as well. Logic would explain to you that it's one of the three up at the top of the rock. Given that one of them has a huge staff and has shown no signs, just menace with his staff, it seems unlikely its him. The men on the water-level also seem to be just peering into the mist, though one of them is sniffing the air like a dog.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/11(Sat)01:33 No.16405550
Which one of the 5 is the Sharingan user?
Their sensor appears to be either the mind-controller or the shadow-jutsu user.

Question: is the caravan still making their escape, or are they still here?
Our mission isn't to kill these shinobi, it's to ensure that the shipment arrives, right?

As it is, the enemy's defensive formation is extremely potent, and their teamwork excellent. We are at a disadvantage. But if we force them to move towards us, we can use the minute opening created by their switch from defensive to offensive.
It's not much, but that's the best that our chuunin can come up with. As long as the shipment gets away safely, our mission will have succeeded and the opponents will have failed.

Unless one of the other Jonin can see a better plan.
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)01:46 No.16405641
    >>16405593
You are indeed correct. Not only are they moving, they're hustling double time to get away. You present a very good analysis.

Kisame rubs his jaw and speaks, "We could try to tie them up in hand-to-hand, but they seem too fast. Unless..." He said and looks over to Yuki who scowls at him before walking forward, a long blade of bone extending through both of her palms, "Alright....we have to go all in, if we want to kill them that is." She said, her robes revealing most of the bones and hiding that it wasn't just odd looking swords from the enemies. "Do we even have to?" She asked before Kisame said, "I want to rip the chakra right out of them and watch them squirm." he said with his high-pitched laugh again.

Should we refer to Kisame as Hoshigaki-san, Lord Hoshigaki, or Sempai?

On the one hand, he represents everything that our character wants to be. On the other, our character is an operator.
And finally, which will not get him annoyed at us?
    >> m 09/24/11(Sat)02:00 No.16405753
    Hn.

I think we should cover Kisame while he goes nuts on them, and keep the enemies off of him so he's able to wreak maximum havoc without distractions. Hopefully Yuki has the durability to be fine on her own. If we don't use the water dragons immediately we should have them ready in case we see an opportunity to use them.

The problem with attack the 3 that are together is that they're in a very strong defensive position.
It may be better to concentrate an all out assault on one of the pair down at the water.

Also, Yuki has a point. We don't need to kill them. Just keep them from moving from here, and our mission is a success. We shouldn't lose sight of the goal of this mission: it's not to fight and kill the enemy, it's to successfully and safely get the weapons shipment back to our village. As soon as we cross the border back into Hidden Mist territory, we can get a backup ANBU team to help us.

Kisame sees your support and laughs, "Alright, Yuki, let it loose!" He said, but Yuki clearly was already going to. She begins convulsing violently and small spines begin rippling out along her body as she finally becomes a walking cheese-grater, covered in spines with two long ones from her palms as she suddenly charges towards one of the men on the ground. Kisame runs after her, much slower. Kaji puts his hands together and shoots up a Water Dragon up at the three men on the rock, the one with the staff suddenly expanding to a truly titanic size, almost seventy feet tall as he takes the little Water Dragon on the chest with a laugh as he raises up his big staff, ready to smack you and Kaji.

Yuki, meanwhile, is tied up in combat with the man with the silver hair, you can see a flash of the man's Sharingan Eye as he weaves around her amazingly erratic combat-style, almost impossible to dodge without lordly Taijutsu skills or the Sharingan. Suddenly a point of massive chakra appears in his hand as the loud chirping of lightning fills the air as he swings at her, two hook attempts and an uppercut. Yuki evades the blows easily and rams her blade through the man's shoulder who with a puff of smoke reveals himself to be a rock, a replacement.

We are not in a defensible position that would give us force multipliers to our defense. I think we should at least take down one of the enemy team, to break up their teamwork and make our odds of holding out until the caravan is safely away better.
Since we can't identify their sensor for sure, or attack them without getting caught again, here's the deployment plan:

Clones 1, 2, and 3 use Water Dragon on the black-haired guy on the water. Kisame, Yuki, and Kaji go in for an very fast in-and-out alpha strike to take him out, using the Water Dragon attack to create an opening.
We will provide cover for them from the silver-haired guy. I just hope that the two groups are separated enough that we can get out before the enemy responds.

Well, us and Kaji need to move to avoid the incoming staff.
If we could find where the silver-haired guy disappeared to, we could appear right behind him and attack, while telling Yuki where her target moved to.
The 3 clones could shoot Water Dragons at the 3 shinobi that are still together, then scoot so that their attack can't be used to trace where they are in the mist.

Keep in mind they do require an ambient source of water, and that's not always easy to find, but as you will soon find out, they can become sinkholes for chakra. However, if we find they're too easily effective, we can just up the cost to 2x Clone. But we'll see before doing that.

    >>16406120
Your clone whirls his Iron Wind at the target, the shadow needles rising up again and wrapping around the blade before throwing it back at your clone, impaling him in the chest.

Your clone's water dragon courses up into the air and smashes down on the white-haired shinobi who slides away from most of the damage.

Lacking too much water, only a bit left from the Dragon, your clone attempts a water prison and gets a Water Cage, not the same suspension effect as the true Prison, but not a bad halfway mark.

Your next two clones pop out and fire their Dragons as well, forcing both men to dive away from the attacks, though the second one gets a collision on the black-haired man, the shadow user.

Whoops, forgot we totally summoned 2 clones. Thank you. Yeah, we pop our pill and feel the energy run through us. However we're totes done.

Kisame is taking massive sweeps of his sword at the black-haired man and a single blow not only dislodges the mask by removing the chakra that holds it tight to the user's face, but it knocks the man over. He rises to reveal himself as a fifteen-year old boy, a young man with a set of strong Sharingan and a pair of heavily circled tired eyes. Kisame chuckled, "Not so tough are you boy?" He said and appeared behind him, reaching out to grab him around the neck where he squeezed hard enough to turn a stone to gravel. However as the neck snapped the boy broke apart into a cloud of crows and fluttered all around Kisame who took swipes at them with his sword before locking up, the boy holding his fingers in front of his face, maintaining a Genjutsu. However, it wouldn't be for long, the boy's eyes opened in surprise as Kisame punched him across the face, sending him careening into the stone wall that was summoned. "Genjutsu doesn't work on me, pretty-boy, Samehada always is here for me."

Yuki, meanwhile, has found herself up in the group's vulnerable assets and is swinging like crazy to make a hit. The blond man stays close, dodging so his friend can get some distance, the shadows holding Yuki for barely a fraction of a second before the blond man calls out "Mind Body Disturbance!" Yuki freezes up and screams at the top of her lungs, her mind still hers, but her body now jumping off the stone structure to charge Kaji.

Kaji, seeing her charging at him, lets her get close before she swings and his body shifts into an obviously well-practiced stance where he deflects her bone-stab, grabs her throat and black lines scuttle all across her body as she locks up solid and refuses to move, he sealed her movement. "Shit...that's..not good. I usually have to Black Dragon Seal Yuki after we're done cleaning up..." He said as he clicked his teeth, "Kisame! We have to get out of here!" He said, but the Monster of the Hidden Mist was having too much fun.

The silver haired man charges up that lightning fist again and dives at your clones, stabbing one, then another and finishing with a water-dragon of his own that smashes into the other two, killing them as well. Only one clone remains and he readies a kunai to fight.

The gigantic man had returned to his normal size reaches into his pouch and pulls out a small metal canister which he opens and pulls out a green pill and pops, suddenly looking much stronger as he drops his staff and grows into a ten foot ball all of the sudden and starts spinning at high speeds, crashing into Kisame who blocks it with his sword, struggling hard for a moment before Samehada eats away the chakra from the technique, leaving a grinning Kisame.

The two men atop the stone shunshin down next to the Uchiha boy and put their hands on his shoulder and nod. Suddenly the other two men appear close to the other three and the Uchiha puts his hands together and fires a titanic fireball at Kisame who simply raises a water wall to defend himself. However, when the steam clears the five shinobi have not only vanished from sight but from your senses. The day appears to be yours.

Kisame leaps towards you, leaning forward to shinobi run as quickly as he can with you, sprinting across the open plain, having to shunshin just to keep up to you as you reach the cart crossing past the bridge that brings it to the Land of Water. On the other side of the bridge is a small horde of Genin and Chunin as well as at least fifteen Mist ANBU who are all scanning and sensing as one to increase their range. However, someone unusual is there, a jonin from the village, the beautiful woman Mei Terumi. She is known for her extremely versatile and powerful jutsu as well as her looks. She usually is found on the hardest missions she can find, but this time she's not just wearing her outfit of a blue dress, she's wearing the blue hat and white robes of the Mizukage. There is blood on the robes.

I, Mei Terumi, as my first act as Mizukage, nominate Shimaru Yamada to take the Jonin Exam." She said and sweeps her hat off her head and a roar of applause fills the crowd. You notice something then. The air of tense discomfort that used to hang over your countrymen seems to be eased a bit. The Fourth Mizukage, Yagura, seemed almost schizophrenic in his brutal policies and cruelty and then magnanimous in person. He was a good man, but a poor leader it seemed. You find Misato Hideki from earlier and he talks to you about how Mei came back from a mission and Yagura insinuated that she was a spy. She then went on a tirade about how her devotion to this village and promotion of its well-being was being undermined constantly by his immature and foolish policies. Shinobi numbers had plumetted in the past five years, whole bloodlines had been erased, all under Yagura's murderous policies, and she finally decided that it was better for everyone to remove him. The Mizukage's office is gone, Mei melted straight through it with her Lava Release.

However, hearing Kaji's conversation he perked up and ran back to pick up the young team leader on his shoulders and walk with you two back to the small cabin where you planned the mission.

Once everyone is seated Kaji speaks. "Yuki and myself were part of the Deep Current. We were the Mizukage's sworn bodyguards, at least we were Yagura's guards. When this mission came up for us we were surprised he didn't retain at least one of us, but not only did he dismiss us he dismissed Kisame and Mangetsu Hozuki was on the docket to be dispatched with us, before he fell ill." Mangetsu was one of the key members of the Seven Swordsmen, he kept a scroll which contained all the swordsmen's swords for ease of travel and stealth. He was also apparently made of water since he would just turn into water when stricken, like a living water clone.

Apparently the client in question was a very wealthy one indeed since after paying all the fees and charges you received 500. Kisame pockets his rewards quickly enough and said, "Now, let's see if we can't get you something nice." There are 2 problems I have with trying to lace our Hidden Mist technique with any kind of poison:
    1. We are usually inside the mist as well, because of the special ability we have to instantly appear behind an enemy inside our mist for an attack. We don't yet have the ninjutsu/medical ninjutsu and chakra control to neutralize poisons, and would be affected ourselves.
    2. Given the size of the poison burst and the dynamic nature of the battlefield, it could end up being a liability and obstacle if a team member gets engulfed by the mist.

Now, once we have better ninjutsu and have made ourselves either immune to some poisons or can neutralize them with ease, then the poison mist would be great to use. I just don't think right now is a good time.

Okay: Can we control the size and shape of our Hidden Mist jutsu, or is it just a burst of a pre-defined size?
What skill would we need to use to neutralize poisons?
Can a Perk be used to grant us immunity to a specific poison, so we could use it in our Hidden Mist without being affected?

Poisons are a whole branch of familiarity that we honestly have no experience in and only the most fundamental knowledge. It would be hard to learn poisons, period, but assuming we were able to, we'd learn the "Poison Familiarity" skill. To infuse it with our mist, however, would either take a Signature Jutsu in the form of a poisonous hidden mist, or a Special Ability.

In regards to the hidden mist, it's a burst unless you get Mastery and instead of upping the size or reducing the chakra cost you make it shapeable.

And yes, a perk could very easily do that for us.

    >>16410115
Mind ltelling us what time zone you're in?

Also in regards to the poison we were just gonna get a rebreather apparatus hide it in a scroll and only bring it out in the mist, that way the poison is less obvious. Also this would be a trick for solo missions more then anything else.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/11(Sat)14:46 No.16410225
    >>16410159
So to even get Poison Mist, we'd have to open up and train Poisons Familiarity.

Also, given that ever since we got Water Bunshin we've been using it extensively in battle, what could we do with Master (Water Bunshin)? Decrease the Chakra cost? Or increase the stats of the clones from 1/4 to 1/2 of our own?

That would work alright. Depending on what kind of venom we use, of course, the rebreather could give you 100% safety or only like 50% if you use a contact venom. However I'm sure if you did take a poison you'd research it well before its implementation.

Mastery (Water Bunshin) gives the following options: Increase clones to 1/3 power, allow deployment of clones beyond your immediate proximity, summon clones as you could normally as a reactive defensive action for 1 Extra Success.

That is absolutely correct, for 1 extra success, and a point of determination, you can say it hit a clone. Not only that but you can make a normal amount, rather than just make one to tank the blow as we've seen Zabuza, Kakashi, Kisame, Kakuzu, and our own Gen do. Substitution allows for different shenanigans. Those include dodging an attack and moving something with an explosive tag in your place to try and kill your attacker.

If nothing else, here's the one property I'd like on our sword (or perhaps it can go on the scabbard?)

    -Returning.-

Since we're a specialist with that one weapon, it wouldn't do to be disarmed. I mean, which would you rather have happen...

    > The puppeteer jerks his chakra strings, sending Shimaru's blade flying behind the enemy formation. Shimaru readies a water dragon jutsu to try to break through to his sword. It'll be difficult for him to get past them, even with his superior speed. Shit just got way more difficult.

    or

    > The puppeteer jerks his chakra strings, sending Shimaru's blade flying behind the enemy formation. Shimaru reaches for the scabbard behind his back. It's empty. He draws his sword anyway.

I see basically two different fluff approaches to how we do it. Both would use fuuinjutsu to get the desired effect, of course. The first would be to seal our hands and the sword, so that we can call it back to our hands. This might run into some fluff conflicts, though, because when we use ninjutsu we're going to be channeling chakra through our hands. The seconds would be to seal the sword and the scabbard, so that the sword can be drawn from that scabbard even when it's not present. Unfortunately, that has the rather large downside of not being a part of us, so someone else -could- use that property if they got their hands on our scabbard. And it could theoretically be removed from our person in a fight, though if that could happen we're probably fucked anyway. On the other hand, this has a fluffy upside of allowing us to become a totally sweet iaijutsu master. Draw-strike-replace? Screw that! Draw-strike-draw-strike-draw-strike!

Actually, if the hands option works, that would also allow for some very underhanded tactics, like fighting someone with taijutsu, then at just the right moment summoning the sword so it's already within their chest cavity.

That'd be nice. Anyways what I was thinking of was using a combination of our natural strength with the water clone- wearing it over our other armors and using it as a defensive and offensive tool: Using the water to slow projectiles and deflect incoming physical attacks, using the principles of liquid physics to augment our sword strikes and give us mobility on almost any surface, etc.

Actually, I'd thought about that scenario, and I thought that it would be better if we trained up a backup fighting method we never use in front of anyone, making our reliance on our greatsword a deception.

It's why we opened up Martial Arts back after the first mission.
Imagine the puppeteer's surprise when, instead of going after the sword like he expected, we instead rush him and cave his face in.

It absolutely should count from you. We only got here because of anons, so your vote matters, at least in my book.

Seems like we have 3 for random 1 for decision(players).

Also we can add properties at the blade's completion but because of the complex nature of making a "magical item" once we give it the bonuses now we're going to be forced to stick with them or risk the blade breaking.

At this level in your life you should be able to manifest two different responses. After some focusing you open your palm and Kisame examines the paper.

    Postan late after reading topic.

    About our sword:

I was thinking a cleaver-style sword with a hook at the end. Something like the Orcs from the LotR movies used. It feels both brutal and cunning.

    As for jutsus:

Our mist is not a Genjutsu, but it's kind of like one. How about we upgrade the mist so it's able to form images? Or maybe that should be a downgrade to water clones?

I'm thinking it could form scores of very weak mist clones, which could then use impersonation justu to turn themselves into allies of those caught in the mist. Mix in some water clones and we could land some very easy prisons.

To make this work perfectly, we also need to upgrade our mist to block chakra signals. This seems to be quite a liability since those guys were able simply read chakra and ignore their eyesight anyway.

You and Kisame are served tea by Gen as he quickly draws the elegant designs and pathways your chakra has to take and form to manifest how you want it without blowing up your wrecking your sword. After twenty minutes he rolls up the scroll, ties it off, and seals it with his chakra, giving it to you, "Only you can open it now, that is a priceless gift." He looks at you, "It will respond to your chakra and your will, if you want a water saw, it gives you that, if you want a fire saw, it gives you that, if you turn both on you get a super-heated water saw which can even split earth, which is what water normally is weak to." He said and looks at the other scroll, "Since you have a tendency to throw your blade, and since your blade is now priceless, I'm going to make it sealed to your hand. You can make the sword disappear and reappear to your hand at will, only using a small sum of chakra." he said and writes down a very fast scroll, seals it, and gives it to you. "I can probably do one more before the weapon risks overloading."

We already infuse our mist with our chakra to confuse sensors. It's just that if the opponent is good enough, they can cut through our interference.

Some kind of passive chakra defense might be good. Like maybe absorbing enemy chakra, but that's moving on Samehade's specialty, and we might not have a 'seal slot' big enough for a major one like that.

He struggles to say the last part and closes the door behind you sharply. Kisame chuckles and gestures, "Come on, Kohai, I think the magic moment is almost here." Soon you retrieve the huge saber-like sword and pay the smith, then you go back with Kisame to the ANBU office where he asks to speak to the Fuujustu-Master.

Once the Master is informed of what is to come he sets up a ritual room, lays your sword in the middle, wrapped in the scrolls as he sits between two candle-stands and makes hand signs before striking the ground, "Seal!" The scrolls wrap tightly around the sword, becoming almost see-through as the blade suddenly explodes with light and the scrolls are gone, leaving just your blade, etched with designs spiraling along the blade's edge, like waves. "I see the seal-maker decided to be a little artistic. This must have cost a fortune." The Master says, which makes Kisame laugh, but not say anything. Soon you walk away and he hands you the sword which warms to your touch as the seal on the handle meets the seal on your palm. "What will you call your blade?"

My suggestion for a name is Suiseiken, with Suisei being Mercury (the planet). It's written as 'water star'. I like it because water (derp), stars are neat (herp), and Mercury is close to the sun (fire). Also, Mercury has mythological association with speed, which I dig.

Of course, there may not even be a planet Mercury or any Greco-Roman mythology in-universe, which makes it a bit meta. But even so, I think it's a good name on its own with only the literal character meanings, water star sword.

    Yep, I like Suiseiken.
