Lets continue our child shall we? First up some summaries and the link to the archived thread.

    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/15929304/

    Crusade Chapter
-Founded in the 33rd Millenium around the time of the Beheading
-Geneseed is pure and from the Blood Angels and we revere our primarch
-Renowned for skill in melee and leadership under fire
-Our hero, is our chaptermaster, who Slew a daemon of note
-We are from a Temperate Feral World that we rule over with Direct Rule
-Our organization is unique with an emphasis on drop pod tactics, axes, and a large number of bodies but a disdain of ranged combat
-occasionally we fly into a rage
-we maintain a good relationship with the Adeptus Astra Telepathica and their psykers
-we have a hateboner for the Dark Eldar
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:04 No.15939377
    >>15939363

    To continue:

The bloodclaw/skyclaw equivalents are clean shaven
The grey hunters start to grow some beard
The long fangs/wolf guard add mutton chops
The wolf scouts add some mustache
The Wulfen are just batshit insane versions of whatever they were before
The Lonewolves are basically just batshit insane versions of higher larger beard units

By the time you reach the HQ levels these guys have a formidable battle beard. Some of which are rumored to to be capable of being wrapped around as a sash.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:05 No.15939392
    >>15939377

    so beard denotes rank
bears are lifelong pals that are tamed and respect is earned as one proceeds from recruit to marine
    axes are primary weapon
    prefer wooded settlements to forgeworlds/hives
tree is planted when one is initiated, cut down in ritualistic ceremony upon ones death and used as funeral pire
bears live REALLY long, older = bigger
revere sanguinus as much as the emperor
live on sylvanus in the ydraggsfbalidsg sector
chapter master holds title of cleaver
has epic bear smokey based on polish soldier bear
world feller, only axe capaple of felling world tree, only a few chapter masters have been able to wield it
We also talked of a Ranulf equivalent of Paul Bunyan.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:08 No.15939413
    >>15939392

There was also talk about a legendary dreadnought which I would like to elaborate on once I finish reposting:

His tree IS the Fortress Monastery.
The Dreadnought is in fact the interred remains of our Founding Father.

Remember, Bjorn himself a Chapter Master. And since he was walking with Leman Russ himself, he may very well have been the first Space Wolf Chapter Master post-Primarch. So there is precedent.

Ah, the World Tree, we could have an Ancient Dreadnought, represented by Bjorn, who has been in service since the conception of the Chapter, his tree is said to be miles wide, and towers higher then many a mountain. This tree is a centerpiece of the chapter, a view that few see. Those that travel to the world tree, do so only in times of great need. For, the anger of the Dreadnought, is said to be capable of cracking the ground beneath him. Forests tremble at the booming of his manly voice. Waking him up in a time unneeded would be a terrible fate for the initiator.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:09 No.15939427
    >>15939413

    Beliefs?

The chapter could have been founded after a passage of the Blood Angels, there, Veteran Sergeant Cleutin passed, and it is said, that blood of Sanguinus dripped from the Shroud that day, staining the earth beneath it, and from his blood, sprang a forest of red oak, crimson as far as the eye can see. Taking this as a sign, the Original Chapter Master and a few marines stayed behind to culture what would be the chapter to come.

Their growth and belief in the Emperor stems off the logarithmic spiral that is visible in nature. They as they grow, their shape is unaltered, despite any successive curves thrown their way. True proof that the Emperor's will, and Sanguinus bloodline live on.

Obviously it is in the boughs of the great tree that the teachings of Sanguinus are scribed. Some carved into the wood, others housed within codices large as a man. And, at the top, adorning the monolithic peak of nature, is the statue of their Primarch, visible to all with the magnification to see, overlooking the fortress and nearby towns towns, ever vigilant, keeping them under his protective wing.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:24 No.15939562
    And now for new concepts:

Larger then normal companies, 150 to 200 marines perhaps.

Each Captain takes a name, denoting their territory (and which tree takes up most of it), and which company they are in (numbers not necessarily ordered, we need a tiering system for trees now):

    1. Lord Gingko
    2. Lord Cedar
    3. Lord Pine
    4. Lord Yew
    5. Lord Oak
    6. Lord Araucaria
    7. Lord Podocarpus
    8. Lord Beech
    9. Lord Birch
    10. Lord Dogwood
    11. Lord Maple
    12. Lord Willow
    13. Lord Cypress (new recruits area, possibly referred to as the "Saplings"?)

Our Dreadnought, deserves the name, Lord Redwood, and not only does he own the massive tree, but guards the crimson sea of trees from shroud story.

The chapter has a large number of marines, larger then let on. This can be supported by having an unknown number of marines who left the planet, perhaps to take care of other planets, those marines could be called the Deforested, for they left their homeland of Sylvanus.

Also on the topic of the black rage:

Wulfen/Lonewolves/Mark of the Wulfen is our equivalent of the Death Company, or the Red Thirst/Black Rage manifesting. Perhaps, we refer to them as the "Wicker men". Statuesque, foreboding signs of their bloodline.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)21:43 No.15939762
I guess we can wait to work on this.

    >>15939562

I was thinking the first company should be red oak, with our honor guard being the Sequoia Guard.

Maybe have our veterans and venerable dreadnaughts feature ornaments made of the sacred crimson oak polished to finest luster believing that this sacred oak offers them a portion of protection from sanguinius himself.

Maybe base the story of our first chaptermaster on the folk tale of Paul Bunyun, but replace the blue ox with a blue bear
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)23:00 No.15940454
    >>15940400

Last I recall, Paul Bunyan was our equivalent of Ranulf, but perhaps that story/ranking could have been equivalent to a chapter/company champion?
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)23:06 No.15940507
    >>15940454

You mean we didn't have Paul Bunyun as our founder?

I thought he was, now I'm confused.

So far the only title we have is that every chaptermaster is given the title of "The Cleaver".
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)23:14 No.15940564
    >>15940507

There were basically 2 ideas for chaptermaster. One was that the Dreadnought is it, although I would opt for him to be more like Bjorn in that he was an adviser. The other was Joseph Montferrus, as a character, basing it off of:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Montferrand
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)23:22 No.15940628
    >>15940564

I thought we all agreed that Paul was our Bjorn encased in the base of the tree of life, and our current chaptermaster is Joseph Montferrus The Cleaver.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)23:24 No.15940646
    >>15940628

That works too. Reason to get a nice Contemptor Dreadnought.

    >>15940646

So what should we focus on next?
    >> Anonymous 08/15/11(Mon)00:06 No.15941023
    >see this thread
    >"oh dammit not another new /tg/ chapter-
    >BEARDS, TREES AND AXES ERRWHERE

I was about to complain about why you people just don't work on pre-existing /tg/ chapters, and then I read the archived thread.

I wholeheartedly approve and wish I knew more about the 40k fluff so I could contribute.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/15/11(Mon)00:06 No.15941028
    >>15940949

Well the new concepts need to be debated upon, perhaps some work on the characters etc. Really add flavor to them rather then just counts-as. Some fluff for the people on the homeworld or battles etc.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/15/11(Mon)00:10 No.15941073
    >>15941023

Contribution does not need to stem primarily from knowledge of 40k. Concepts, or knowledge about aspects that the chapter is based off of also work wonders. An example would be knowledge of trees or mythologies in which a tree of knowledge or life, or knowledge of things Canadian would help.

Hell even knowledge of being manly works or 18th century.
    >> Anonymous 08/15/11(Mon)00:15 No.15941109
    >>15941028

Well one think we could do is have each company be represented by a different type of tree, and comer with titles and name based on the largest and tallest trees for their champions/heroes.

    Here's an example:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequoia_sempervirens

Our first priority should be to flush out our founding so we can get some decent fluff for Paul and the world feller, as well as set a foundation to base the chapter on.

We should also detail our current chaptermaster's slaying of that daemon prince.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/15/11(Mon)00:24 No.15941191
    >>15941109

    That concept was suggested here:

    >>15939562

Using names of trees that grow in a temperate forest.

As for the daemon prince, I have a feeling it should be Nurgle. Khorne, represents an immediate thread in his fire affinity, but a Nurgle force pollutes the land further with his plague, possibly bringing in damaging insects similar to pine beetles. This would deal catastrophe to the their world/nature.
    >> Anonymous 08/15/11(Mon)00:30 No.15941243
    >>15941191

Nurgle is exactly what I had in mind.

Imagine it Joseph Montferrus riding into battle riding atop Smokey wielding the Word Feller after being deemed worthy to wield it.
    >> Jareddm 08/15/11(Mon)00:36 No.15941305
I see some pretty solid potential with this chapter. I know you're going for a "counts as Space Wolves" approach but what I'm most interested in is the roll for unique organization. I'd be interested to see this done differently than just Space Wolf Great Companies. My idea comes from a scene from the movie 13th Warrior, where there's just a large mass of warriors, and a call goes out for a certain number of men. The men then stand and volunteer themselves individually to partake in the mission.

So I was thinking instead of companies, just have a mass of warriors who stand up to make themselves known.

Also I don't see a roll for the strength of the chapter. You know, understrength/overstrength/nominal.
    >> Jareddm 08/15/11(Mon)00:45 No.15941396
    >>15941305
Nevermind, found the strength roll. Overstrength. In that case I like to push my idea even further, as making a name for oneself, especially for one of the beardless, would be even more important among so many marines.

    The scene I'm talking about:

I think they should still have companies(each representing a different type of tree), but maybe they're more homogenous than traditional chapters..

    >>15941440
*Salutes* We did some fine work then and I'm hoping to repeat our success.

Under my idea, the title of captain wouldn't really be an actual command position, simply one of honor and experience.

Also, I'd like to expand on the specific crusade that led to the Lumbermarines's founding. Are they still on said crusade? Or have they settled down and now defend the territory they claimed?
    >> Jareddm 08/15/11(Mon)01:04 No.15941544
    >>15941519
Agreed. Perhaps the company is treated as temporary for particular theaters or campaigns?

So for characters we are gonna fluff up:

    Paul Bunyan (Ranulf)
Dreadnought (Bjorn Counts-as, which may or may not be Paul Bunyan)
    Joseph Montferrus (Possibly Ragnar/Logan?)

Left over spaces for possibly some form of Canis for bears?

Speaking of Bears, how do you feel about one of the lords being in charge of caring for bears, his men/armies should reflect a high usage of bears.

We also need to decide on a name for our bears.

for world feller, i was thinking that in the days of the founding, there was an invasion of daemons on another planet in system, and that during the purge and reclamation, the original chapter master had the great axe created and blessed by the astropaths, and used this to not only purify the world, but also shattered it in the process, hence the name, this is hpw he ended up in the dread, we could have it so that his bear saved him, starting the tradition.

His limbs are as strong as wraithbone, his bones as a load of adamantium.
His is the first of the Lumbermarines blessed bears; [only] his Maker can draw His axe [against him].
For the mountains bear food for him, and all the beasts of the field play there.
Does he lie under the shadows, in the cover of the redwood and the forest?
Do the shadows cover him as his shadow? Do the willows of the brook surround him?
Behold, he plunders the river, and [he] does not harden; he trusts that he will draw the sea into his mouth.

we could have it so that killing a daemon prince or geater daemon is not only good for normal reasons but grants one immense respect in the chapter and that if someone does, they are blessed by the old dread in the woods. and when a chapter master is too old and frail to continue, he is put in a dread and sent into to the woods to wander(like in judge dredd), this would allow us to have a dread retinue for old dread/paul

well, if there are still old chapter amsters in dreds chilling inna woods, then it stands that their bears would either still be around, or woul have died bravely, warranting a shrine or monument, so with the now really old bears would be rather large like paul's bear, not as big, but still at least land raider sized, if not larger. we could maybe use them as close combat walkers, tret them like turbaconepic sentinels or dreads, but lightning claws and monstrous etc.

Daniel Aykroyd Lord of the Pine.
Equitatus of the Ursus Cavalerie , those under his watchful command ride atop their fabled companions into battle against the enemies of the Lumermarines and the imperium.

Given control over the planet Aspin Primarus; it is here on this mountainous, snowy conifer covered planet that these marines care for and train diligently with with their bears to sharpen their skills in preparation for the eternal war raging throughout the galaxy.

    So for now we have:

Lord of the Redwood Paul Bunyun
Lord of the Oak Eru Ilúvatar (terminators)
Lord of the Pine Daniel Atkroyd (bear cavalry)
    Lord Cypress (scouts)

Who think our terminators should use lightning claws since they can be seen as kind of like bear claws

Honestly I'd do it, but haven't done uploading stuff to 1d4chan before. If someone would instruct a bit, I could totally prune through the threads and condense all the fluff in a legible format.

That first off, is going overboard like the Wolf Codex, and I think we should shy away from that. I'd be fine with just Thunderhammers and Stormshields, as we are as stalwart and grounded as the trees we raise.

Just a thought, but I see your point the one thing I don't to happen is this chapter just becoming the space bears.

I was thinking of having Lord Podocarpus head the assault marines.

The deforested marines can be where all are armored support and ranged weapons come from maybe?

I viewed them more as Lost Companies of the space wolves.

Considering we have so many Tree lords at the moment. Do we make one of them the ranged one? Or do we remove some?

have maybe 5-6 tree lords aside from redwood, and have one be a kinda spleinter group that partaes in campaigns and loves ranged weapons, but is more in it for the thrill of the hunt. like actual hunters with rifles and stuff not bolters

Our chapter standard should be the tree of life, but every lord has their own standard in edition, so the Ursus Cavalerie for example would feature the chapter standard on one shoulder and the standard of the Lord of Pine on the other.

As for the deforested marines they all will be under the control of the lord of autumn

    >>15943768

Our vehichals will adorn bear ornaments made of the finest mahogany polished to a fine luster.

On the subject of Lord Podocarpus, I was think of basing him off of Alexander Suvorov going by military tactics.

If someone would be kind as to try and but a French/Canadian spin on him.

    - Marines live in Subsector Taiga
    - PDF wear red RCMP uniforms
    - Bears feed on giant deathworld sized shark-salmon. During spawning season they leap up waterfalls and eat anything that gets too close. Most adults are bigger than Orca whales.
    - Not greenpeace marines, but industry and nature are kept separate. Factories and such are constructed in/on barren mountains, away from and above the forests.
    - Human population lives in trees. In houses built on the sides, or with the truly huge trees, tunneled into the living wood.
    - There are raccoons. Although cute, they are also very smart and tend to troll unwary humans.
    - Native humans are not "feral" but because of the lack of farmland they are almost all hunter gatherers. Fish and game are not only plentiful, but outnumber humans by a huge margin and pose a threat if they are not kept away from settlements.
    >> Starshadow 08/15/11(Mon)07:47 No.15944409
    - Wild bears are pretty bro and lazy. If a normal human threatens one, the bear will basically stare at him for a while and go "seriously man? seriously?". However if you push one too far, threaten a cub, steal their food, or claim dominance they will flip their shit and go berserk like you would expect.
    - As on Earth, lumberjacking is statistically the second most dangerous industry to work in. The #1 spot, of course, goes to crab fishing. Salmon only have orange meat because they eat shellfish. Think about that for a second.
    - The "feral" part of feral world refers more to the local flaura and fauna of Sylvanus than the people who live there. Far from being something to preserve, the forest is the enemy. A dark and scary place full of dangerous animals. While trees are felled for fuel and building materials, most are cut simply to keep the forest from overrunning human settlements.
    - Sylvanus is almost completely green except for the poles which are icy and barren. Humans live all over the planet, but the more industrial cities are all located on broad plateaus of rock that rise above the forest. The one exception is the planet's central starport which occupies its own island.

Whats the angle on maple syrup you guys are going for? You would need an alternate name for starters.
