    1.21 MB Zeonquest pt116 I apologised on 4chan !!857o4GkKJgy 08/12/11(Fri)13:15 No.15912984
You are Commander David Lister, the commanding officer of the elite Nachtmaren Squadron. For a year you the war against the Federation has raged, you've fought them to a standstill ,but were betrayed; Gihren Zabi, in an attempt to seize control over the Principality of Zeon instead split the foundling space nation in two.

You were forced to face your fellow Zeon, all the while the Federation retooled, rebuilt and rearmed itself and fell upon Zeon like the tide coming back in. You and the soldiers of Solomon stopped that tide through desperate fighting and bitter losses and brought the Federation to the neogotiation table.

For a moment it seemed as if the war was going to be over, and then Gihren made his last play. A giant colony sized superlaser. Chaos raged as ships and hopes died and for a second it seemed as if war would resume and burn Zeon to the ground, once again you stepped into the breach and put the threat down.
But even now the situation hangs in the balance, you'll have to trust in the skills of your diplomats because you've been given your last orders of the war:

    Kill Gihren.

    Zeonquest Fuck Yeah!

    Okay, first things first:
We burned some He-3 to get here. Since we're going to go after Gihren, we should top off the Outer Heaven's tanks.

Also, does Kycillia or Admiral Doenitz know where Gihren is currently?

Current tactical intellgience: IE a disgraced Ex-Admiral from Gihren's inner circle, indicate that the plan was for the Colony Laser to reignite the war and then use the confusion to pass around the now lightly defended Side 7 - Side 4 - Axis. However, with the colony laser unable to fire a second time, and an outbreak of hostilities prevented by you, who knows what sort of contingency plans he had prepared?

In anycase, he's almost certainly at the Grypps colony between Side 6 and 7.

    2. Load up our team back onto the Outer Heaven.
    3. Calculate fastest flight plan to Grypps.
    4. Go and shove a 440mm bazooka shell up Gihren's ass.

And did Kycillia tell us to keep this operation a secret, or can we just ask around the Legitimacy and Federation MS teams if anyone else wants to help put a bullet in Gihren?

Absolute fastest course would be skimming off the outer atmosphere of the earth and heading straight for it. That is however technically Federation territory.

Alternatively the other way would be to go through neutral Side 6. Again that's international incident territory (literally) but they can't have missed the giant Superlaser going off right across their bow, plus Side 6's navy is a joke compared to what the Feds are putting out.
It is however, a longer route.

Atmosphere Skimming route would take 4 hours.
Side 6 route would take 6, maybe 7.

    Okay, then.
First, tell Kycillia we're going to ask the Fed's to let us skim through their territory to get to Grypps. See if she's okay with it. Tell her it'll let us shave anywhere from 2 to 3 hours from our flight time, and every second wasted is a second that Gihren has to get away, or get the Colony Laser repaired for another shot(we know it won't be fixed in time, but Kycillia doesn't).

If she's okay with it, we ask the Feddies if we can use their shortcut. If they want some escort ships to shadow us, that's fine. Hell, that's more meatshields we can use. Everyone's invited to the Gihren Roast!

You have Kycillia ask for free passage and any aid the Federation can spare to get to Gihren and the Colony Laser.

Unfortunately they don't have any assets in place to help you. Certainly nothing as fast as you are in any case.

They do however agree to open the way for you to make a beeline straight to Grypps.
With your passage secured nontheless you immiediately set off at full burn.

Three hours in, and with a combined tactical feed you're able to keep tabs on Grypps. A two colony cluster, one of those colonies being the laser. The other presumably a top secret skunkworks. Who knows what kind of things they've been cooking up. That said, all of the experimental superweapons in the world aren't going to help Gihren win agains the combined might of Zeon and the Federation.

About two hours in, the tactical net identifies a ship making an escape along a roughly similar route. It's fast, faster than the Outer Heaven, which signifies some heavy modifications. But it's heading in the opposite direction to you.
From it's speed and trajectory your ship is the only one who can intercept it in any meaningful way.

It could be Gihren making a run for it, or it could be a decoy, or even some other unconnected lackey who's nerve broke.

Well, realistlically, as much as the Federation might want to take out Gihren, what are the chances that they would allow us, one of the most feared Zeon ace teams, to fly through Federation space? Or that they would consent to taking orders from a Zeon officer?

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I want to throw out that it's still a long shot.

You give the order to intercept, and the Outer Heaven shifts to make the maneouver. The intercept time won't be long, not at the speeds the both of you are going at.

You get down to the hangar and tell everyone to suit up. You load up for mixed combat, Beam Rifles and Bazooka's or similar. Plenty of disposable ordinance.

    The intercept time looms.
You open a channel to the bridge: "Mauser? What's the plan? We're not going to have much time to act when we intercept? Some sort of flyby strike aimed at taking out their engines? Maybe we decellerate and then attempt to board the ship exterior?"

There is a pause on the other end of the line.

"...yeah. Those are good ideas, but here's what were going to do, I'm going to take the armored ramming prow I had them install three weeks ago and I'm going to shove this ship right down his throat. You might want to hold on to something..."

The ship accellerates, and collision warnings go off across the ship. You have barely got time to tell the rest of the team to brace when the impact occurs.

The approach of the Outer Heaven had not been an easy one. Mauser had weighed up the option of using the Anti-Beam chaff to cover his assault, or not and allowing the Nachtmaren their beam weapons. He chose the harder path.

Beams and missiles from the enemy ship: a new model Chivvay with a massive booster extension on the back to give it ferocious speed, strike out at the Outer Heaven.
The ship nimbly dodges and weaves through the firestorm, firing back with equal abandon. Her pilots had faced worse than this on earth, with it's thick and cloying atmosphere to contend with.
The impact isn't perfect, the armoured prow of the Outer Heaven hit's at a 40 degree angle and carves a thick groove along the side. The portside wing snaps off, wedged inside a mess-hall on deck 5 of the enemy ship.
The armoured prow and reinforced armour takes the worst of it, the main hull compresses and stretches but refuses to buckle or lose integrity. The high speed mass of the ship rams into the larger engines blocks bolted onto the rear of the ship as they flare out. The superstructure and attatchments give way and tear free, hundreds of tons of fuel, engine and metal swings like a gate door before coming completely free, spinning off into the distance, seconds it becomes a massive fireball.
Wedged together the two ships spin uncontrollably together in strange directions.

At this point, Mauser opens the hangar doors, allowing you to leave the Outer Heaven.

Rance and Option quench the reactor if they can.
Jolyne, Strauss, and Tony to take disable the hangars and any remaining turrets.

Both you and Elain exit from the top hatch. Large gouts from beam weapon hits score the top of the ship, and foot-thick armour plating is crumpled and torn like tinfoil. The stars spin overhead dizzingly like some kind of otherworldly vista as you make your way to the bridge. He'll be there, you know it.

Underneath the other five pilots begin their missions. The damage the Outer Heaven did to the ship becomes clear here, the modified booster extension has transpired to be just that, a set of much larger engines bootstrapped to the bottom of the ship. The original engines have now been revealed, although the nose of the Outer Heaven has carved a niche for itself along this part of the ship. It seems unlikely that the enemies remaining engines weren't damaged either.

    However, better safe than sorry.

    Below the earth spins.

The first thing the attack teams on the bottom see is the arms, giant things at least fifteen meters long, festooned with wires and each finger ending in hollow barrelled fingertips.

Jolyne recognises them as beam cannons first, but can't get the warning out before they fire. Beams lance through center mass of Options Gelgoog, half of the mobile suit shears off below the sternum, any other mobile suit and this would be a killshot. Gelgoog pattern mobile suits however, have their cockpit just below the head.

    And ejector seats.

A less experienced Mobile Suit pilot would have died all the same. This however was not the first time Option had a mobile suit shot out under him. Although he did feel more than a little guilty over getting Calvins EWAC package destroyed.

Jolyne gives the order the five of them open up on the enemy mobile armour. Thrusters flare and the Zeong dances away from the hangar bay, responding with it's torso beam cannons. Jolyne dodges and returns fire, abnormal AMBAC maneouvers propel the Zeon away from the beam's path.

The manouvers are erratic because it only appears to have one hand.

Up above the onboard radar alerts you to the new threat. The two of you push foward to try and finish the job when you notice the hand floating incogruously in space.
You recognise it instantly as a weapon and both you and Elaine dodge to opposite sides as the beams pass between you perpendicular to the surface of the ship to avoid damage. The both of you return fire, but the target's relatively small and neither your Carbine or her Gatling has quite the accuracy required.
Beams and bullets gouge more damage into the Chivvay as the target jinks away. It's fingers outstretch and five beams fly in different directions, a wide spread meant to spear your both.
Elain flips over, you duck under, and return fire.

That was the second in as many minutes. Somebody was desperate to get this warship back on the move. Which was a fair indication that the big G was indeed onboard.
What was more worriesome though was the fact that the nose, and bridge where Mauser was standing of the Outer Heaven happened to be poking out directly in front of those engines.

The heavy armour and heat-shielding would last longer than most ships, but it doesn't matter who or what you are you DON'T stick your face in a nuclear pulse thruster if you can help it.

"I want our manouvering thrusters back online pronto ladies and gentlemen. For really fucking obvious reasons!"

    OUTSIDE

"The firepower off that Mobile Armour is too heavy! The Outer Heaven is a sitting duck! If we keep fighting here those beams are going to take her out! We have to push out further!" Jolyne tells you.

"The ships are still moving, if we leave the zone we might not be able to get back and finish the job! We miss Gihren here and this war will never truly stop!" You reply.

If we try to push out, the Zeong will just turn on the Outer Heaven; their goal is to get away, not capture.
    Orders:
David and Elaine attempt to continue towards the bridge, using grenades and Heavy Gatling fire to keep the Zeong hand from being effective. Maybe we'll get lucky and a stray shot or grenade will cut the power feed cable.

Jolyne and the attack team try to lure the rest of the Zeong further away from the two locked ships. Make heavy use of explosives to throw off the aim of the Zeong.

I still think the Outer Heaven should release AB chaff. Maybe use some of their guns to try to corner the Zeon.

Newtype power time is now suggested. Let's kick this battle up a notch.

    Shall we, gents?

Also: Who the hell could be piloting that monster? Gihren wasn't a front-liner like Dozle or Garma, Char is on earth and on "our-ish" side, Norris is (SAY IT ISN'T SO) /possibly/ dead, and Anavel we took care of with Zolomon ourselves. Who's left? You have the rest of the team try to draw the Zeong out whilst you keep heading towards the bridge. You call up the Outer Heaven and ask for the deployment of a close range Tadpole defence missile.

"We lost Tadpoles one and three when we rammed the ship. We'll try firing Tadpole 2, but it'll have to loop over and around." Anita tells you.

Beam's from the Zeong graze around the rest of your squad in brilliant lines whilst it dodges in and around their own return fire, a brilliant multi-coloured halo of newtype power surrounding the central mass.

AA turrets begin firing flak at you and Elaine as you close in on the cockpit. Behind you the Outer Heaven fires a tadpole, it rocks and swerves erratically, trying to loop over and spread it's payload almost upon launching. Flares and unseen chaff begin spilling out of it for a few seconds before a megaparticle cannon shot slices into it. The missile still laden with fuel explodes, scatting what chaff it hadn't launched into the area, but melted and useless. Thousands of tiny bright stars scatter and die.

Beam chaff has deteriorated the enemies fire however. Beam shots that were lethal are now merely dangerous and stinging. But the Megaparticle cannons can cut through that still.

You blast a heavy flak turret with your bazooka whilst Jolyne scours the surface of the ship with her heavy gatling. The damage is getting severe, this ship is unlikely to be going anywhere shortly.

You put a bazooka round directly onto the bridge superstructure. But it seems the only place they didn't skimp on the armour was the bridge. Ablative plating spalls into the air nevertheless, a few more shots should do it...

The Zeong despit it's size, had terrific thrust available to it, more and more Jolyne could see the similarities between it and the Hi-Mob Newtype Attack Zaku that Nell had been using. Had the loyalists stolen the design at an earlier phase of the development? Was the Flanigan Institute selling to both factions? These were questions for a later time, all that was important now was that she faced a newtype pilot in a mobile battle fortress with enough gun to blot out an entire fleet.

The Tadpole had done some of the work that was required of it. Blunting the finger beams just enough for the reactive armour on the teams suits to take a couple of hits before taking internal damage.

Those chest mounted megaparticle cannons weren't paying much attention to the beam chaff though. She wanted those taken out.

The Zeong pulled back even further, and launched it's hand units again. Bazooka and Railgun rounds chased after it. Explosions rocked it's armour, and solid slugs pounded against the Mobile Armours frame. The hand units fired on the move at 45 degree downwards angles, firing from above them. Beams cris-crossed each other in a web of death.

She saw Tony's Gelgoog get tagged on the leg, the armour slags off but otherwise holds, Strauss deflects a shot with his shield, but another on hit's him in the elbow from behind, fusing the joint.

Jolyne stops time, takes aim and exhales with the shot. The railgun round flys true at the Zeongs head, but even of these distances the erratic speed and movements turn it into a glancing blow. One of the large red antennae is neatly snapped off instead.

"I am getting real tired of these hand units Ma'am." Rance tells you.

Rance closes with a hand unit as it retracts back to it's parent unit. It senses him of course and attempts to fire on him, but the enemy hasn't counted on the Type-B Galbady's speed, and he closes the gap quicker than expected. He kicks the arm, knocking the point blank shots wide. It attempts to stabilise itself, it doesn't get to finish the manouver before Rances beam saber slices it in half.

He bolts away as it explodes.

The second hand attempts to revenge it's brother by attacking Rance from the rear, but before it can complete the maneouver it's forced to dodge a bazooka round from Mettle instead. It directs it's beams against him in return, but he dodges in time, and the beams shoot past him...strait into the main body of the Zeong.

Heavy armour slags and distorts, and a cascade of sparks erupts from the right megaparticle cannon in the torso, one of the shots must have damaged something.

It seems momentarialy stunned. Strauss makes his move.
Roaring in fury, the man hurls his Galbady right into the massive frame, the two collide heavily, and with his thruster still burning, Strauss boldy rams the Mobile Armour downwards towards the earth that looms ever larger.
The Zeong attempts to break free, the hand rapidly retreating back to try and extricate the attached mobile suit. Thrusters fire, but can find no reverse purchase as Strauss stress his own beyond their limits.

The last megaparticle cannon fires with no effect, heat haze begins to redden the two as they start to enter the atmosphere.

The hand struggles to catch up, and in the end it simply takes position, seeming intent on taking both the enemy and it's own parent out. It points to fire, and then...

Several hundred meters away. Jolyne Brande takes aim. A corona of fire buffets the last hand unit, it is not a good target as it jinks and twirls.
Behind that coils the power cable that connects the two mother and hand together. It still flaps in the wind of atmospheric re-entry, but at least it's not actively dodging her attacks.
The target is barely a foot wide. It is over 400m away.

She takes as long as she needs to aim, because she has all the time she could want, and presses the trigger.

The hand struggles to catch up, and in the end it simply takes position, seeming intent on taking both the enemy and it's own parent out. It points to fire, and then...nothing. It flops around, like a puppet cut of it's strings.

"Strauss!" Jolyne calls, her radio crackles with minovsky particles.

"I'm taking this bastard down! All the way down!" was the reply she gets.

Then the head of the Zeong detatches, independant and making a mockery of Strauss's planned heroic sacrifice.

The small target burns it's thrusters and makes for a cruel exit. But a hand lances out, Strauss's last good hand, now bereft of all weapons, he thrusters are going, he has almost nothing left, but his years of Mobile Suit experience. He's at the level between oldtype and newtype new, a ceiling he can never cross without the aid of perverted science.

The hand lances out and grasps the head. The thrust of it nearly removes the arm from it's socket, but Strauss distributes the weight. The thrust has an extra benefit, it arrests his fall somewhat, there's a chance he might just survive this now. The grasping hand increases it's pressure, harder and harder, servo's protest at their treatment and the armour begins to crumple around the crown of the head which he grasps.

The head rocks and jinks trying to break free, thrusters scald his arm, melting armour, but the arm itself holds fast. It turns downwards to face him.
Strauss recognises the port of a beam weapon just in time.
He loses a useless arm and shield instead of his life.

He continues to try and squeeze the life out of the head, but he's reaching diminishing returns now. The hand servo's are failing him in a cascade, soon they'll fuse solid.

A second beam shot misses him by a hair, and Strauss takes another risky manouver. He shoves every iota of remaining reserve power into his arm servo's and whilst they're circuits snap and overload at him he uses the extra power to slam the Zeong's head directly into his own. There is a sickening crunch, and the beam cannon goes off at the point of impact.

    Dammit Strauss! Not you too!

As for David, he should have a straight line right to the bridge. Even with its ablative armoring, it shouldn't be able to take a beam saber.
Let's carve up that bridge like a big ol' roasted pig.

The impact turned the entire cockpit concave. Whoever was piloting that Mobile Armour, was now jam. The blast itself, if Strauss had not decided to angle the impact slightly would have killed him. As it was, their simultanous attacks evaporated the Galbady's head, tore through the side of him, erupting just below the armpit and neatly severing his last, overloading arm.

Headless and armless, the damage put's his automated computer into shock. Using the manual controls he keeps his thrusters and reactor from quenching, whilst the hard reboot takes place. But it's touch and go, will his thrusters have enough power left in them to escape earths gravity?

    STRAUSS HAS KILLED THE ZEONG

Alarms scream at him when the reboot completes. His legs are melting, his thrusters are disintegrating, his suit is on the verge of collapsing all by itself, and it doesn't look like he can make it, he pushes it all the same.
And then, for a second he registers a second pilot alongside him, just for a second he swears he sees a shilloutte through the back-up sensors helping him up, for second he thought he heard the echo of a voice of that man he once knew and then he was free.
The air was gone, and he had escaped the gravity well, his suit was in pieces a complete write off, and from the looks of it, they were walking home. But he was alive.

And the voice he had heard, it's words echoed within his brain.

"Tell the boss, tell David, I'll be waiting."

The second Bazooka shell revealed the inner workings of the superstructure. Air begins to vent from inside.
Then on their third attempt, the engines of the Chivvay flare to life.

"Shiiiiiiit!" Mauser howls as armour and underlying internals begin to melt. The memory of the blast shutters on the bridge turning red with heat was one that would haunt his nightmares for years to come.

Synchronicity described is the experience of two or more events, that are apparently causally unrelated or unlikely to occur together by chance, that are observed to occur together in a meaningful manner. The concept of synchronicity was first described by Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung in the 1920s

Such as was the case the case here, that in the exact moment the Chivvay fixed it's engines, so too did Ookawara, finish work on the hight powered vtol thrusters of the Outer Heaven.

In a moment of terror, a green light appears on a scared ensigns control console as saviour. He punches it like a man seeing water after becoming lost in the desert.
Powerful thrusters fire into the sides of the vessel in return and the Outer Heaven painfully tears itself free of the other ship, after dealing fatal blows deep within the bowls of the vessel.

Up above, you can feel secondary explosions begin to take the ship.
"She's going up! We've got to get clear!" you warn Elaine who'se already pushing up and away.

Just as the first explosions begin to engulf the vessel however, the nose of the ship seperates, like a rocket it shoots away from you, like some kind of komusai.
In fact, that is probably exactly what it is, and there's no prizes for guessing who's aboard.

This is the last deception of Ghiren Zabi.

The ship behind him explodes. Blinding your view.
You roar Ghirens' name as he makes his escape.

Then you see the HLV in front of him, on full burn from the surface on an intercept course.

Like a flower shedding petals the HLV begins to break apart piece by piece. It reveals a Zaku II, an old C type, probably not used except during the very earliest stages of the war.
What is important however, is the colour of the Mobile Suit: That faded almost pastel colour of pink, that somehow managed to get it's owner the name of "Red Comet".

Char Aznable has returned to the field.

His Zaku II C is holding a bazooka, and with practiced accuracy takes aim. It is a standard 280mm Zaku Bazooka, it doesn't not fire beams, it is not fully automatic, it does not project 8 meter wide projectiles.
Nevertheless this weapon once slew thirty ships in a single day.

Char thumbs the transmit switch on his radio. He knows Gihren has seen him, but he has to make sure he understands.

"I have a going away present from my father to you Gihren."

A normal man would not have understood this message. Gihren Zabi however has an IQ of 240+. This was why, if there was anyone who survived the resulting attack, they would have asked themselves why Gihren Zabi, the man many equated to the next coming of Adolph Hitler chose for his last words

    "Casval, you!?"

Casval Sum Deikum pulled the trigger, and years of revenge festering in his soul finally found release.

The exact nature of the peace treaty was by the nature of peace treaties quite expansive and worded in language only diplomats or lawyers could understand. But the salient points of it were thus.

1.) Zeon's independance is maintained. They're sovereignty would include Side 3, Grenada and the space fortresses Solomon and A-Boa-Qu.

2.) Other Sides would be allowed a referendum to either stay with the Federation, become fully independant, or to join with the Principality of Zeon. The date of this was not yet set.

3.) Space Fortress Solomon was to be moved to the area of Side 3. (This formation would result in it being placed within A Boa Qu's defensive envelope, creating a formation collectively known as "Zedan's Gate")

4.) Any officers within either military found guilty of war-crimes was to be tried by a fair and impartial jury. Regardless of where they may hide (IE Axis)

5.) Amnesty to any prisoners of war.

Axis by this point, under the command of Admiral Khan proclaimed independance from Zeon command, and using Nuclear pulse boosters escaped out towards Mars. This remote location made persucting the now safe war-criminals next to impossible.
This was mostly as planned, however there was one wrinkle.

Dozle Zabi's wife and child had been sent to the Axis for their own protection. This hostage situation effectively ensured Zeon herself would never, could never aid overtly any attempt to bring the guilty of Axis to justice.

    CALVIN HOBART EPILOGUE

Was considered unfit for service due to his injuries. He later found David Lister and Jolyne Brand, and the three considered the ramifications for revealing the evidence they had to the public. Given Kycillia's lynchpin position within the government they went to David's father for further advice. His advice was to bring it to the attention of Garma Zabi.

After reviewing the evidence, Garma Zabi used it in UC 0082 to cleanly depose Kycillia and exile her to a secure location under a similar ruse to that of Gihrens during the war. The true reason was never made public due to the far reaching ramifications it would have for Zeon's existence as a whole.
Unlike Gihren's ploy however, Kycillia was never under the threat of death.

    Or stuffed into a fridge.

Afterwards Calvin Hobart explored the Earth Sphere before settling on a colony in Side 6, and living with his somewhat young fortune teller girlfriend.

Her escape from the Flanagan Institute sparked a secret manhunt. Always one step ahead, she dances out of several dangerous encounters before eventually giving them the slip.
She then has to contend with the federations own sinister newtype research labs, and after eventually escaping from America and reaching Dublin, she is able to escape back into space with a new identity. She makes work as a travelling fortune teller before eventually settling down in Side 6.

    OPTION EPILOGUE

Retired his commision, and gained employment as a freight worker in the busy Von Braun dockyards. Always with plenty of war-stories to tell, he;s considered the glue that binds the dockyard crew together. But the survivors guilt he gained from the loss of his first unit weighs on him heavily.

He expunges his ghosts however when pirates outfitted with Grypps tech attempt to take the dock and raid the ships currently held witin. Equipped only with an outdated Command GM, Option defeats the pirates and destroys their experimental space-type Adzam command unit.

His hotheaded manner often get him into trouble with his superiors, and husbands, but underneath his brash womanising exterior secretly lurked a heart of gold, and deep sense of justice and loyalty.

    DAVID LISTER AND ELAINE BRANDE

Both resign their commissions and move to Von Braun. There they get jobs helping out Zolomon's sister run the bar. Rumours soon spread that Nachtmaren 1 himself is behind the bar and the popularity of the establishment goes through the roof.

His treatises "The Ethics of Victory" and "Mobile Suits in Action" are both finished and publish. MSiA is considered the modern tactical treatise of our time, and the basis for tactical combined arms in a post MS world for decades to come.

He marries Elaine on a spring day.

Zolomon Ringo's legacy never truly dies, for what he did for Von Braun, Von Bruan remembers. A statue in his honour remembering all of those who lost their lives is erected in the graveyard where his funeral is held.

In 0082, the Zolomon Ringo Hospital opens.

In 0083, members of ZIRCON approach the two of them for one last mission...

We got what we came for, and he'd have never forgiven us for stealing HIS kill. Motherfucker straps an HLV on and rockets up to keep Gihren from getting away and doing this shit all. Over. Again.

What's one more kill marker against saving the soul of a man? Our team lived through the last, final battle of the war. Millions of men and women will never suffer under the iron boots of tyranny and defeat, nor will it spawn the endless "Zeon will rise again" shit for decades to come because Zeon never fell to begin with. Char will not fuck things up with more bad comebacks than MC Hammer. Zeon will be GARma's to steer into the next generation.

Well, I agree that the 'Zeon will rise again' and Zeon holdouts will be less of a problem in this timeline.
However, Axis still seceded, and there are still some Loyalist holdouts.

Also, the Federation is still free to develop their own weapons and ambitions in space. It's implied that an incident still occurs in 0083, and that by 0085 something has started to go wrong with the Zeon government. Possibly due to the results of the incident in 0083.

The Federation could still have developed the GP02, events somewhat similar to Stardust Memory could still happen, leading to the formation of the Titans. This would result in massive rearmament by both Zeon and the Federation, and which could be what causes Strauss to resign his commission.
