“Very practical.” you say coldly, standing. “I’m sure you won’t mind telling me the rest of your conspirators then?”

He shrugs, “Sure, whatever. Not like it matters anymore.”

“Good.” You take three quick strides forward, Parson looking up just in time for you to grab his throat and lift, slamming him against the bulkhead wall with your left hand as your right arcs across. Microfibrial muscle strings laced through your body flexing, you feel his nose snap as your fist connects. Ah, that felt good. In fact, it felt so good you do it twice more, the third blow connecting with his teeth and knocking one sailing free even as it opens a long gash along your knuckles.

Enough. You release the man and take a step back, breathing deeply and flexing your hand. Regaining your composure. Parson lies on his cot, unconscious and bleeding from the broken nose. You summon Dr. Burr as you leave, it wouldn’t do for him to be too damaged for cryo.

    #################

The door to the debris-filled cargo bay swishes open and in you step. A clear area in front of it greets you, and your eyes fall on the various officers arrayed within it. All of them save Dr. Burr and Chief Dai.

“Captain on deck!” Rinn announces, jumping up from where he was sitting on a block of warped unisteel. The others follow suit, all snapping to attention at the sight of you. They’re all arrayed in light clothing, T-shirts and less, a couple of the junior officers shirtless. On the ground around them are the modified weapons used in their games of laser warfare, painful on contact but hardly dangerous.

“At ease.” you say, nodding. “Interesting. About to start a game?”
    >> Vedibere !!O+eQDn0BBx8 07/31/11(Sun)03:29 No.15765552
“Close, sir.” Ivanova replies, “Waiting for the last two juniors to finish.” Your XO is dressed in a black tank top over Armada-issue combat cargo pants, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. As you watch she and the other senior staff go about checking their weapons, ensuring that they are harmless and working correctly. You flit about the optical sensors across the vast space and find the last two juniors, engaged in a fierce firefight that is soon to be over one way or another and consider.

    Hmmm.

“You seem to be short a man.” You observe to your command staff.

Tynes nods, “Yeah, but we’ll make do.”

“It would be easier if you had a fourth. And if it’s senior officers against junior, well, I believe I count toward the senior.”

The eyes of those present snap over to you, Rinn raising an eyebrow, “It would hardly be fair, sir. You know where everyone is.”

You give a shrug and small smile, “I can do something about that. No cameras, no sensors. Other than my body here, of course.”

“Well then that would hardly be fair the other way, sir. You wouldn’t be able to keep up.” As she speaks Ivanova cracks a smile, your other senior staff chuckling at the comment as the juniors sit silent, eyes wide.

“That sounds like a challenge.” you state flatly, and your XO nods slightly. “Well, I suppose I have no choice but to accept and show you all how it’s done.”

Smiles all around and the junior officers finally joining in with whoops and exhortations. From the “You show ‘er sir!”’s and such they are rather eager to see your second-in-command be “shown” how to do anything, even if it means their own loss.

You just hope you didn’t bite off more than you can handle.

    #############
    >> Vedibere !!O+eQDn0BBx8 07/31/11(Sun)03:31 No.15765566
The game is simple. Last team with a surviving member wins. Both teams start at opposite corners of the pile and have to find each other and eliminate them. Simple. Easy. Right?

    Not so much.

You’re paired with Ivanova, both Tynes and Rinn wishing you luck and a slightly disheartening, “Hope you can keep up with her, we sure as hell can’t.” Wonderful.

The two of you wait in a crouch, watching the timer tick down to zero and the game to begin, slowly, slowly... now. You both spring up and begin rapidly jogging inward. “What’s the plan? I assume the others have favored tactics?”

Your second nods, “They can’t generally match us on skill so they tend to spread out individually and make use of their comms to set up ambushes. When they spot us they converge and attack.”

“And you move around in a group?”

She shakes her head, “Tynes and Rinn pair up, safer that way.”

    “And you?”

She glances over, smiling, “Never have had need to do so, Kapitan.” Suddenly she skids to a stop and hold sup her hand, eyes closed. You both drop into a crouch as she opens them, bringing a finger to her lips. You nod, and she motions for you to go right as she skulks off to the left. She’s barely gone ten feet before you lose track of her, expert movements carrying her behind debris with fluid precision.
    >> Vedibere !!O+eQDn0BBx8 07/31/11(Sun)03:31 No.15765572
You dip into the debris and stealthily make your own way around, soon coming up on a large unsteady mound. You silently shimmy upward, eventually laying flat on top of a precariously balanced railgun hulk. Below you have a broad view of the area... and two figures. Ivanova is silently creeping up behind Ensign Rao, who is squatting in a sniper’s position looking away from you both. In her hand is the taser used as a substitute for combat knives, more for prestige and bragging rights than any actual advantage over simply shooting them.

But all is not well. While you see the ambush being set up down the way by one of the others, Ensign Rao likely providing sniper support, what you didn’t count on was Ensign Tremko being in the area as well. He is slowly walking toward his compatriot on the other side of a large pile of debris, gun at the read... within seconds he will round the corner and see Ivanova preparing to strike.

Train our weapon on the approaching Tremko. When he sees Ivanova, blast him. Ivanova should be within range then, enough to tasestab Rao.
    >> Vedibere !!O+eQDn0BBx8 07/31/11(Sun)04:01 No.15765821
Ivanova slowly creeps closer to Rao, silent as a ghost. You immediately discard the thought of using the comm link, the noise would alert Rao and compromise your partner. Still, something must be done about the imminent discovery by Tremko.

You slowly move your laser rifle into position and press your right ocular sensor to the scope. Three seconds left before he rounds the corner. More than enough time. Millions of calculations flow through your mind; angle, positioning, movement rate, even likely variations in movement pattern.

    The galaxy’s most expensive sniper.

The target becomes your world. Closer, closer. Now. The second Ivanova comes into his view, with reflexes faster than his brain processes seeing your XO, you unleash the focused beam of light.
    >> Vedibere !!O+eQDn0BBx8 07/31/11(Sun)04:02 No.15765828
“Gaggh!” He yells, stumbling backward. A red welt appears on his bare flesh and free hand clutches at the mark, but you’re much more concerned about Ivanova and Rao. At the sound Rao spins, gun ready... but Ivanova is already too close. She leaps forward, lightning-quick, and almost faster than you can register grabs the man’s gun and disarms him. Her left arm continues forward without hesitation, elbow slamming into Rao’s face even as she brings the taser up into his chest, situated directly between the third and fourth ribs and over his heart.

The man spasms and falls backward, gurgling out his own cry, but Ivanova doesn’t follow through. Instead she immediately drops the taser and covers her mouth with her left hand, dropping to one knee beside the man. A few seconds later Rao is laughing while rubbing his rapidly purpling cheek, Ivanova looking relieved and helping him up.

You move your hand up to thumb on your microphone, rapier wit at the ready, when struck by a strange urge. You look backward and down toward the base of your debris pile... only to find Ensign DuBois attempting to sneak into a firing position behind you. Your eyes meet and time slows. The ensign’s gun is still not on target but you can see the muscles in his forearms tensioning, your own weapon pointed in the opposite direction still. Your reflexes are fast, though. Inhumanly so. You could try to bring your gun around and fire first.

Then a second thought strikes. The debris beneath you is unsteady. It would likely stun you and possibly risk minor injury, but you could jolt forward and hope to ride the unisteel landslide downward.

Finally, you could use the time to finish your communique to Ivanova, revealing the ensign’s position before being shot and out of the game.

Before thought, action, or circumstance can change the situation further you slam your heel down on the railgun casement. A groaning pop resounds from beneath it, quickly transforming into a roar. You slide downward, twisting and firing rapidly at DuBois as you go... you don’t manage to see if your shots hit, however. You dip below the ridge and the casement slams into something large and /very/ solid, flipping you off and onto the debris around the area. A hard impact to your side and then the world stops spinning.

With a groan you sit up to see both junior officers and Ivanova sprinting over to you, your second in command shouting,“What happened?!”

You cough, standing, and gesture to the pile, “Other side, DuBois. I’m circling around from the right, you go left.”

“What? Sir, you might be hurt, I don’t think we shou--” but you hold up a hand.

“After. Hurry up, he’s probably on the move already.” Without waiting for a reply you begin running to the right. You look back and see Ivanova running in the opposite direction, circling around. Good.

As you circle around the pile you slow a bit, run bleeding into a jog as you rub your left side ribs. Bruised to be sure, and would have very likely been shattered had it not been for the unisteel enhancements throughout your skeleton.

    Still, hurts.

Standing rubbing your side you hear footsteps approaching at a run from around the corner. Ivanova? DuBois? You don’t know, though it sounds like one person alone, breathing heavily.

    Do you...

You ignore the twinge in your side and quickly drop your gun, unhooking the tazer that serves as your improptu ‘combat knife’ in these games and moving behind a large piece of debris. The footsteps approach rapidly and you lie in wait. Ready to pounce. A predator waiting for the kill. You don’t have to wait long.

As the footsteps round the corner you spring out, tazer at the ready. You superhuman information processing abilities allow you to take in the scene in an instant, and shockingly it’s not anything you had expected. Instead of either Ivanova or DuBois you see Ensign Fie, surprise etched across his face and laser rifle slowly swinging in your direction.

    Wrong move, Ensign.

Within a split second you are inside his guard, left hand snagging the laser rifle’s barrel and right leg cutting across to kick it free. You continue the spin and forward momentum into a backward slide, skidding along the ground on your knees and ducking under Fie’s now outstretched right arm. Out of his vision, out of his range of motion. His fate is sealed. You twitch your microfibre reinforced leg muscles and rise up in an instant, lunging forward and planting the tazer in the small of the man’s back even as you kick his feet from under him. He falls back with an inarticulate cry and you catch his twitching form, waiting for the shock to subside.

You make it back to Ensigns Rao and Tremko near the collapsed pile of debris only to find DuBois and Ivanova joining them. Good-natured groans and accusations of “sucking at this game” accompany Fie’s appearance, and you notice a bright pattern of four red welts across DuBois’s chest.

“Looks like the Lieutenant peppered you there, DuBois.” you say with a smile, but the blonde man shakes his head.

“No, sir. That was all your doing.” he says with a smile.

Ivanova nods as well, “I just found him, he was walking back to the exit. I see you got Fie too.”

“Yep!” the man announces, grinning, before you are able to confirm, “Looks like he got three of us and you only got one, Lieutenant.”

Ivanova scowls, “So it seems. Alright, all of you get out of here, you lose. Mandatory combat training with Rinn tomorrow.”

The four men groan complaints, wandering off slowly and comparing “battle scars” with each other and leaving you alone with your XO. You find a convenient bit of protruding flat metal and sit, glancing over to Ivanova.

    “What about Rinn and Tynes?”

She shakes her head, dropping her gun to the floor and walking closer, “Already gone, Tynes usually hits the showers afterward and Rinn the firing range set up in bay three.” she’s now directly in front of you, scowling down, “Stand up.”

    “What?”

“You’re injured, stand up I need to treat the wound.” With that she grabs your hand and pulls you up before reaching down to a small white medical satchel you didn’t notice before and pulling free some synthskin.

“Lieutenant, it’s really not that ba-” but you cut off, sucking in breath through your teeth as she slaps your knuckles with her open palm.

“Kateryna. And see? It hurts and is open wound.” she scowls, looking up again and staring at you, nearly eye-to-eye, “This is dried, you didn’t get it in the fall.”

    “Well, no... not quite.”

“Tsk. Risk of infection if you leave it open.” she mutters, quickly applying the synthskin to your knuckles and stepping back again, nodding. “There.”

“Uh... thank you. Um, Kateryna, is there something on my face?”

She shakes her head, her face now blank as she stares at you with crossed arms. “No. You were good back there. I’m impressed.”

You smile, “Well, of course. I told you I was, didn’t I?” A little bravado can’t hurt, after all.

“Mmm.” She continues to stare impassively for a long minute. Just as you are about to speak again she gives a sharp nod. “Wait here, sir.”

She quickly turns and strides away, and you soon hear the swish of the cargo bay doors as she leaves. What...?

You activate your cameras again, watching as she quickly moves through the ship and upward, eventually reaching the officer’s cabins... and her own. She vanishes inside, and after several minutes of watching you are paged by Dai concerning some repair issues.

You hear the doors to the cargo bay swish and withdraw from the repair drones working outside the hull. “Well, that certainly took a whi--” you break off.

    Oh, boy.

In front of you stands Ivanova, arrayed in full special ops stealth combat attire. Black skinsuit covered by armor and a plethora of devices, taser and laser rifle at her sides. Over her eyes is an enhancement visor with dozens of visual modes, enhancement features, HUD, and auto-targeting systems, short leads running directly from it and the suit into the jack behind her left ear.

And worst of all, on her face is quite the most dangerous smile you’ve seen in a very long time.

“Well, Kapitan, shall we have a real match?”

“Absolutely, I trust you brought a suit for me?” you snark.

“Oh, but I think you carry your equipment with you wherever you go Kapitan. I’ve seen your file, da? Very dangerous.”

“Fair enough. Nonleathal still, of course?”

“Of course, though that does remind me that I brought you two upgrades.” She reaches to her belt and pulls free a pair of gloves, tossing them to you, “Laris shock gloves. For hand to hand combat, you see? One shock will down a normal man, for us three to five I believe should be the limit.”

Oh great. What have you gotten yourself into? “And the second?”

She walks a short distance away and hefts two rifles, “Projectile weapons. Modified to fit shock-rounds. Once again, three to five strikes.”

She tosses you the weapon and you scowl. If this is the way it is going then....

“Very well, I have something for you as well.” you state.

    “Oh?”

“A condition. A bet. To make this more interesting.”

“Hmmm.” Ivanova stands thinking briefly before nodding, “I agree. The terms?”

“If I win...” what could you ask for? A dozen thoughts flash through your mind. “You seem to have an interesting stash. Is there any alcohol present?”

A complicated look crosses the portion of her face you can see and she gives a wry smile, “No, there is not. I am afraid mind-altering substances of any sort no longer have any kind of... effect on me. I have no reason to keep them.”

Oh. Hmm. “Well then, if I win then I would like another bar of chocolate. I believe you can oblige?”

She grins, “I can do that. If I win then I desire...” she pauses for a moment, peering downward and scratching her head before eventually looking up with a smile, “Three questions, to be answered honestly at any time I ask them.”

“Three?!” you ask, staggering backward in mock shock, “Why, that’s hardly equal to my one bar of chocolate request.” She shrugs, and you nod, “Very well then, I have one more condition. My name is Ged, much like yours is Kateryna. I trust you will use it.”

Her mouth opens a bit in surprise before forming into a smile, accompanied by a short nod. “Very well. We will start in opposite corners as before with the objective of incapacitating the other. As for rules: There are none, save we will not harm one another beyond normal bruising or strain. All electronics, tactics, and methods of combat are allowed. Agreed?”

“You’re certain? You are operating inside one of my bodies, you understand.”

She gives a wicked grin, “Absolutely.”

“Then I accept. Let the games begin.”

    This is perfect.
If she is a true warrior, then the fight is much more than just a fight.

Going all out is a matter of mutual respect, it's like saying: "you're good enough to take it"
It is also way beyond physical, it's logical, emotional and sexual :)

At least, it was in my weaponless defense at the military :D

IF we wim, IF we are a true warrior as well - then we will at LEAST kiss her, taste her sweat and blood, excitement and fear.

No groping, no dryhumping, a passionate kiss, sucking in her everything.
She will respond as she sees / feels fit.
